Wk of May 18 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Liz - what a scary situation! I hope you are doing okay! pixiedust:

I'm sorry I am out of the loop right now, but I'll be back later to catch up.

As for me:
Friday -- just a bunch of walking with a heavy briefcase
Saturday -- C25K W4D3 and a finished up a total of 5 miles on the treadmill in preparation for the coming weekend; 50 minutes on the bike; 10 minutes jumprope; 35 minutes of Wii boxing (knocked my opponent out in every match-up except 1); Wii fitness test
Sunday -- walked a parade route (twice) in the pouring rain
Today -- C25K W5D1 (intervals of r/w of 5 mins/3 mins)

This week is sketchy for time to work out, but I'll get in whatever I can whenever I can. I may have to wrestle DS14 for the Wii controller.

Hello Team that's racing without me....

No training to report as I sit here *cough* waiting for the *cough* Bronchitis meds *cough* to straighten me out. *cough*

I'd just like to say, I for one, would never choose a favorite NASCAR driver just because he was cute.

Sincerely,

Judy Stewart

:rotfl:

Happy Birthday Judy!

:bday: party:

Happy Birthday Judy!

:bday: party:

Oh! Pat! How did you know!?!?! :goodvibes  Oh thank you very very much! Can't wait to get home to my new Ipod I know nothing about getting from Charlie. Hee hee.

Oh Judy - I Love those know nothing about gifts!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY from one May baby to the next!!!!

Hi Everyone!

Sorry guys no exercise for me today. My quads and calves are killing me from hours of squatting and warming up fast pitch pitchers. I stupidly warmed up my 10 year old while her big sister's 12 year old team was playing. So then I got to warm up the back-up pitchers for their team. Its amazing how much harder the 12 year olds pitch!

Plus, my hands are covered in bruises because my son didn't bother to tell me my glove was in his bag when I took him to warm up his arm. He's only 8 but he can get a runner out from 3rd base! Eventually I had to beg another players dad to take over for me. He out grew catching with Mom at 8. bummer...

It was a fun weekend but I need a couple days to recover from it.

Judy - Have a happy birthday Mrs Stewart! My mom is a big Jeffy fan too. She gets my kids to watch that stuff with her. I haven't watched since Dale died. It just isn't the same. Hope you feel better soon.

Liz - I hope you heal quickly. That is my nightmare about bike riding. DH loves to ride and would love for me to ride with him ("with" meaning I would be somewhere in a 10 mile vicinity behind him on the trail) but all his bikes require special shoes that you clip into the bike and I know I will fall over.
Krista - oh yes. With #1 it was food. I wasn't much of an eater before I got pregnant with her. I have been making up for those lost calories (over 30 years worth) ever since!
With #2 it was Winn Dixie brand cherry poptarts. I shudder at the thought now, but back then, I couldn't seem to function without them. No wonder I felt sick the entire pregnancy...
With #3 it was Burger King sausage egg and cheese corsanwiches(SP?).

Krista - Yup. For several weeks, I craved those horrible fake-cheese nachos from the Target snack bar and a cherry Icee. I was there nearly every day.

Judy - Happy Birthday! :cake:

Krista - camping was fun. Thank goodness the moms could sit by the campfire with some beverages at night! ;) I just have to figure out how to convince a certain small child not to keep running off! :scared1: I think he is losing the Indiana Jones legos today, for a long, long time.

I have this sore throat & cough thing still. So, I am going to nap before picking up the previously mentioned bad child and hopefully this sicky stuff will pass soon so I can get back to training!

Kristi - I love camping... but kids can sometimes drive your insane. My DD5 is a runner-off also. In fact, last week I caught both of them running in front of a truck... My heart skipped a beat. KIDS!!!

Krista - Oh craving during PG... I have them all the time, even when I am NOT PG. First DD was Subway, my office at that time was across the street so DH was always over that. That was back when they gave you stamps towards a free (Thankfully!!). DD #2.... hmmm... I ate a lot of teddy grahams dipped into the frosting tub! Oh and a Hershey Bar dipped into PB. The weird thing is that I was never a sweets person until then. Now I am!!

Pat - I am doing my best to gear up for the weekend. So far the weather predictions are good. Highs in the 70's, possible rain Sunday afternoon, but that is a ways away yet to be certain. Note to everyone else... Pat, her DH and I are doing the Madison 1/2 marathon this weekend. Little Mini-WISH meet!

I'm really looking forward to it! It's not too late for anyone else to make a spur of the moment trip to beautiful Madison WI! The course is supposed to be gorgeous, and there is a brats party at the finish! What more could you want??

Pat & Jen - good luck this weekend! We're signed up for a 2 day, 75 mile bike ride thru Rockford this weekend. I'm hoping to be able to do the 30 mile leg on Saturday then relax at the rv on Sunday with book and wine. :thumbsup2

Judy - :bday:

Cecilia - You had a work out alright! And nice of DS to remember where your glove was. Hope your hands feel better.

As for PG cravings, it was White Castle cheeseburgers and onion rings with a chocolate shake...at 11pm.

As for me, just back from doc's. No breaks thankfully but appears I did damage the muscle where it comes up the back of the hip which is why it hurts so much getting up and down. On the plus side, I can now get my right leg raised enough to go up the stairs instead of stepping up with left and dragging it along. :upsidedow She gave me a muscle relaxer and wants me to stay home one more day, rest and ice. Weekend riding looking iffy but hey, it could be worse.

Right now sore from getting in/out of car and thru store to get Rx (and ice cream...) so going to relax and ice it again.

What's everyone else up to?

Krista: Definatley yes..... I hated cesear salads and loved coffee before I got pregnant with kid #2. Now to this day I love cesear salads and still hate coffee and she is almost 16 years old:confused3

Judy: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Have a great day!!!

Liz: Glad to hear that nothing is broken. Take it easy and relax while you can because before you know it you'll be back running (hehe) around again and being busy.

Me, a rest day for me, I will try and do some pilates core work later.

** I am a Kasey Kahne fan, not because he is cute (which he is), but because my father was a big Sterling Marlin fan when he was driving for Dodge (I'm a huge daddy's girl). Sterling was getting ready to retire and Kasey was filling in for him and then eventually took over as driver for the #9 car. I will stick with him until I deem otherwise. My Mom is a big Jeff Gordan fan. I kinda like Ryan Newman and Jr. isn't bad either. **

Liz: Ouch! I am glad it was nothing more serious, although it certainly sounds very painful.

Jeff:
Congrats on the Princess' graduation. They grow up way too fast.

Michelle: Uuggghh! I can not imagine running in that heat.

Vic: Hope the ankle heals quick.

Morgan: I am with you on the Wii Fit. I too went out today and was pretty PO'd it wasn't available.

Krista: I wanted beer the whole nine months I was pregnant with my daughter. I am not even a beer drinker. I suffered the whole time with a craving I obviously couldn't satisy. Now I realize why I had the craving...this childs personality could drive someone to alcoholism:rotfl2:

As for me, I am good. Instead of the Wii Fit that was preordered, I picked up a pilates mat and some compression shorts. Woo-hoo, huh? I'll send DH out to get the Fit Wednesday so I don't do any more damage on the Pixie (my tinkerbell credit card)

Hey everyone, have a really busy week at work this week, and off to Boston to move my DD out of school this weekend, but it seems I can't go a whole day without checking in here:

Amy I hope the food poisoning is gone. That's something I have never really suffered from yet (knock on wood)

Liz I think a day off work to recover is wonderful. Fortunately I get Friday and Monday off this weekend, so I don't need to arrange my own "little accident" to recover from these first 4 days. ;)

........Brief pause for unscheduled aerobic activity to chase the dog, who had grabbed a bag with two new sweaters (Lands End bargains at Sears) and was madly chewing off the tags and playing keep-away.........

Krista My first was born in September and I had the full summer thing going on. Frankly, I don't think the summer heat thing was as bad as the two feelings of: 1) I can't sleep in any position but my side and 2)my skin is so tight I feel like I'll burst--how much more can it stretch! Just stay indoors and crank up the AC--we didn't have central AC when my daughter was born, and I wish we had.

Judy Happy Birthday!

As for me Today is rest day. Yesterday I did a fartlek run--wasn;t necessarily supposed to be, but I thought I'd try running with my dog, Buddy (anything to tire him out is a good thing). Of course, I had to run in the middle of the road or else he would stop and sniff and bark and eat and pee, etc. As it was, I was pulled from side to side, stop-ed and go-ed all over the place. It was way more work than a regular 3-mile jaunt. And did it succeed in wiping him out? No way!

Maura

Okay, some spotty posts while I catch up from this weekend!!!

Week of May 11th:

Welcome to boards, KristiKay (woo hoo on your Minnie race), ksoehrlein (great job on C25K), mla1977 (a Disney trip coming up? Take ME), Megan (welcome back, and I hope to see you at ToT!), Rozzie (I don't know about runner-specific yoga, but I do like Yoga for Dummies) and jakenjacksmom (love Bingham's MfM and you have plenty of time).

Leana and Cecilia: You know you two always impress me with your athleticism and enthusiasm. I'm in awe. :worship:

Lily and Craig: Have great trips--I envy you your travels, but you deserve them.

Tracy: Tried to "racewalk" a step or two this weekend (not on the course, just when walking around town). Wow--feels really weird and takes a whole skill set I haven't acquired yet. Or should I say I haven't acquired it well. Speaking of well, I ALWAYS wade in the shallow end of any pool, including genetic and dating.

Ms. Duckie: You make your own ice cream. Oooh, be still my beating heart. :faint: Too bad about your being on Mickey restriction--would DH buy a trip to Disney as absolutely necessary for you to meet up with me to work on the guide? :rotfl2: I absolutely need to make a road trip to NJ sometime--maybe I should do a X-country trip, visiting WISHmates and sampling local ice-cream fare?

Aloha Jeff: I think my running motto is, "Run? Is that what I'm doing?"

Krista: Another Oasis fan here, but not from the high-school days. Thanks for reminding me I'm old. :lmao:

Minnie: Thanks for the heads-up on capris. Wish I could help with the shoes.

Carrie: Child's pose...one of my favorites. It's my "don't bother me, I'm thinking" pose. But you, the last thing you are is lazy and weak. You're making the yoga class your very own, that's what I say.

Kira: Here's to more "legs like spring" days. I hope to have one of those soon.

Maura: Seminars on ice cream, festivals on ice cream. I knew I "lived" online at the right place. I'm counting you "in" for the scavenger hunt, even if it has to be--sigh--responsible. Has Scott started a list of participants yet? It sounds like Sam Sam might be in!! Did you sign up for your tri?

Stacie: Your 5k was awesome!

Scott: About your July trip....maybe you'll get really lucky and score a good deal on hip--cat digs to go with the stylish duds; in fact, I'd think the odds are good.

Rich: I missed seeing you at Cleveland--I had a garbage bag over my WISH shirt at the start. Besides, you were too speedy for my tortoise self. Congrats on your half!!!

Rpsemont: Can I just call you Rosemont? Great time on your first 5K--you're leaving me in the dust.

Howard: Have you planned a special graduation dance? Or maybe a run down the commencement aisle?

Steve: Welcome back--glad to see you didn't try to slink in or anything. We would have noticed and taunted you. :rotfl2:

Johanna: That feeling of accomplishment you've been getting with C25K. Me, too; many days that's what keeps me moving. The end promises me more than the beginning and sometimes the middle. Unlike so many movies I see.

As for me: I missed spending time on the DIS, with all its family, fun-loving antics and melodrama, to spend my time with DOOD's family, with all its fun-loving antics and melodrama. Guess which I prefer? ;) And all because of a silly, silly 1/2. Oh, well, at least my weekend wasn't dry--it rained on race day & I drank myself silly--okay, maybe the wine wasn't necessary for me to get to the silly part--on Sunday night. (Pssst, and there may have been ice cream involved.)

I thought I'd just check back in now while I am waiting to digest before I go out running. I'd report on my weekend workouts but they went so poorly and things pesonally weren't great so I've decided to pretend like the weekend didn't exsist. Truthfully I think I'm already forgetting what happened. But I worked out and at least I put in the time!

Thank you to everyone for the welcomes(or should I say welcome backs?) Ready the threads is already making me more motivated.

Leana-I'm good, I hope you're doing well. My job now is about 10 or 15 minute ride from home. I'd love to be able to run to work but I'd have no place to shower, needless to say I'm jealous over your being able to ride to work. Aside from the workouts how are things with you?

Debra thats funny I had a white Garbage bag on to start also. I think I got rid of it at mile 5. I was just glad it stopped raining. I was real happy with my time. Let me know if you run anything else locally.Did you hear anything from the other runners.

Tracey: You and VIC and NASCAR...is this a FL thing? (Bill and Tricia want to weigh in on this one? And Mike, Kim and Judy, what are you doing in this gang? You're ruining my theory! :rotfl: ) Great job on your Sunday racewalk--I'm definitely sweating at the pace, even in cooler weather. P.S. Leapin' lizards!!!

Vic: Funny anecdote from this weekend. We stopped at a travel plaza on the way home today and I saw one of the claw machines with toys in them. There were several stuffed NASCAR toys, so I thought it would be cool to win one for you. Two dollars worth of quarters later, I felt foolish and decided I didn't like you well enough to lose AGAIN. :rotfl2: (But I did think of you.) Btw, I hope your ankle hurts--so I guess I do like you enough to be worried about you because, hey, concern is free.

Mel: What, no-frills running? What's that like--I generally like to pretend I'm the Macgyver of running and am loaded down (without duct tape, though).

Jeff: I'll show you my bling if you show me yours. ;) Wait...you've already done that. I got what I wanted, that little vicarious thrill, and so I was just kidding about exposing my medals...

Jackie: That was a FABULOUS mile, and the conditions weren't half-bad either. Your season is going to go fast, isn't it?!

Mike: Sounds like a fun weekend, even without a good night's sleep and a skipped run. Was the booze of a sufficiently high quality?

Jen: Your post-1/2 plans sound a lot like mine, without the 5Ks I think. (Budget cuts so we can afford ToT.) Maybe we can compare notes?

Scott: Heigh-Ho Silver (Comet), Away!! Have you been working on that cadence thing? I need to read that TR of yours. So....have you started the scavenger-hunt planning yet? I'm not going to forget about it, you know.

Amy: Strange question--are you and/or Scott in the 50 state club? Considering it? It'd be a great excuse for travel. :thumbsup2 Thanks for the tip about the running/yoga DVD. I'm so sorry to hear about the food poisoning--it WAS a crummy week for you in a lot of ways, I know, but remember you are our XT inspiration! (I'm recommitting myself to some quality XT now that Cleveland's done.)

MLA: Good luck with starting C25K! IT sounds like your first day went well, despite some cramps. Don't let your cat talk you out of it--they're awfully persuasive in lobbying for the cuddle time.

Ms. Duckie: :woohoo: on your first judged racewalk & a PR. Plus, I think being DLF is worth bragging rights; it's a badge of honor and a sign that you're committed to your sport.

Liz: I'm so sorry to hear about your leg! Your accident sounds so scary--I would have panicked, I think. :scared1:  I'm glad the news from your doc is (fairly) good, that you got some good (legal) drugs, and that you seem to be feeling optimistic about Rockford this weekend.

Aloha Jeff: Wow--your pink group is doing just great! (Ms Duckie and I will cheer from the sidelines.) And I think you're doing a great job making sure everyone stays healthy on the run. Pre-K graduation--another wow! Princess #2 sure looks happy. Are you sure ice cream isn't also part of your RX; I like to think of ice cream as WISH recommended, at the very least.

MB Michelle: I'm sorry to hear about doing your first 5K in that heat--I can't imagine. But I'm impressed you got through it and I hope it bodes well with your upcoming tri. P.S. I think it's great that you've jumped right in to both a tri & a 1/2...and that they're both at DL.

Steve:
Blah, blah, blah...26 miles....8-10 miles.....blah, blah, blah...blah, blah, blah....194 miles....blah, blah, blah...but all I heard is blah, blah, blah...Porn.
:rotfl2: I do have to say that you're putting in amazing miles on the bike, too, and I look forward to reading more tips about biking for me to crib from.

TXAng: Great job with your 5K and PR. And it's good to have you back on board. I'm looking forward to reading your RR.

Leana: What a weekend! :woohoo: Am I understanding you right in that your commute to work takes about an hour? Very impressive...and so good for the environment and your gas bills.

Kira: Good idea for the RR shirt and night running! The lime green certainly gets people's attention! :thumbsup2

SamSam: What a great story about DH and biking. It always helps to remember to keep our senses of humor when learning new things. And DH sounds like his learning curve is sharper than mine--'nuff said.

Kim: How is C25K coming along?

Morgan: Running around in circles? That kind of describes my life, let alone my running...:rotfl2: So you got caught in the rain yesterday, too. Such fun. I can't believe you toughed it out without the incentive of a race. You're a tougher bunny than I am.

Krista: I love your plans for getting through your pregnant summer. I get unnaturally hooked on the Olympics, so it sounds like heaven. (Okay, maybe not being the pregnant in the summer heat, but the expectations for Carter's arrival & the games...pretty cool.) I hope your check up gives you all the good news you desire, although I don't think the okay for springtime tanning will be given. :rotfl:

Stacie: What fun! Another anniversary celebration. I have to say, it sounds like May has been a great month for you--and deservedly so.

Tricia: What a busy, almost hectic, weekend. It sounds like all that work on the home front is pretty extensive. If not XT, at least HR raising.

Judy: Hugs for your illness. Double hugs for setting high standards for your NASCAR drivers. :upsidedow Oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! :bday: (Thanks for the intel, Pat!)

Pat: Good luck this weekend. You and Jen (and everyone else) will have a blast, I'm sure! :goodvibes P.S. DOOD's doing the 50 state quest, too, and just getting started on it. He'll love knowing it's your goal, too.

Cam: Good job with C25K. I'd rather do that than carry that heavy briefcase of yours. How are you enjoying the Wii?? (Not to taunt Morgan or Johanna.)

Cecilia: Ouch, ouch, ouch! I hope your hands heal--I'm impressed with your DS8's arm. And with your whole baseball-playing family and packed weekend. No wonder your legs are sore.

Kristi: :woohoo: for camping with tasty beverages :rolleyes1 --with or without the s'mores. Wow, withholding the Indiana Jones' legos; that would certainly be incentive for me. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Johanna: Well, having the Wii Fit not being available did score you more gear...that sounds pretty good. Unfortunately, I'm into immediate gratification, so I understand the feeling.

Maura: WTG with your spontaneous fartlek run. I think for a dog, every run is a fartlek. So Buddy sounds like a great training partner and obviously knows how to motivate you for your run.

Megan: Denial--my favorite bad workout strategy!! :thumbsup2 But you went out, you got them done, and you came back here to taunt us with your lack of detail. No fair! :lmao: (At the same time, WTG for building our expectations for next time. Very savvy.)

Rich: You SHOULD be happy with your time--fabulous! I got rid of my garbage bag at around mile 5, too, but our times were so different. DOOD's cousin-in-law is pushing for us to do Akron Run the Bird Marathon, which is a race he volunteers for. We might think about it, depending on scheduling. After all, they do offer free Brooks shoes to everyone who finishes in 6 hours. (Not that that would be me...). Oh, and read below...*I* didn't get to meet any WISHers, as DOOD has all the luck.

Claire: Haven't seen you on the weekly thread in a while? I hope you're enjoying some post-pre-semester fun!!

As for me: I'll get up my RR sometime tomorrow, but you should all know that I finished the Cleveland 1/2 and lived to tell the tales. It wasn't a rousing success, the rain caused blisters. Anyway, I missed my hoped-for goal time, but I did set a PR. So I'm disappointed by my time, but I ran the best race I could run under the conditions. DOOD also missed his goal but achieved a PR. He also met Optimator Mike on the course--I didn't see Mike--so any suspicions that DOOD is a figment of my imagination can be set to rest. (Now, you can begin to ask yourselves whether I paid a stranger to approach Mike on the course and impersonate my DH.)

I was also very pleased by the Cleveland marathon. It's a nice scenic course, fairly flat (although I think races are never as flat as I imagine flat), with some rock and roll entertainment, cool shirts and medals, a well-organized expo, and VERY generous pacing requirements (4 hour limit on 1/2, 8 hour on full). DOOD and I left after his race, but returned to see the DLF. Very nice moment.

One anecdote to keep you satisfied until my RR, one that I think stands in for why I  WISH. I was at the gear check-in after my 1/2 when a woman approached me to ask me about my WISH shirt. She was with a group of women who saw the back of our shirt & loved its message. I probably wasn't very articulate, as I was a bit tired, but I did my best to explain WISH and what we stand for beyond the basics of the DISboards and Disney. In my stumbly-bumbly way, I told her of the big difference you've made in my life, and how you were with me every step of my race. I told her that I don't think I would have started to train for Cleveland without you all, let alone have gotten to the start line on such a cold, rainy Sunday. Finally, I told her that I wore the shirt because I believe its message is for anyone who has the courage to take that first step.

So, thank you WISHers, for helping me find my courage. I couldn't have done this one without you. :goodvibes
