Wk of Mar 18--WISH Walking/Running Club

Steve - :goodvibes I feel so special now. Me & Jen must be your second best girls! :rotfl:

solo - I was one night at Pop last year. It was really quiet fo our pool view room. Not that it mattered, we did not sleep mcu as we were in WDW and too excited to sleep! As fro trans to non-monorail resorts, I thought it was fine. We got back to Pop after teh fhalf adn back to SSR after the full quicker than we got back to BCV (less stops). The thoguth of walking back to me is not an option. Unless you spend a ton of time in your room, I don't see it being a problem. Value Disney>Off Property>>No Disney. ;)

Martha - I think I keep forgetting to commetn on you 3 miles in 31 minutes. :scared1: Grat job, though. Better make sure someone gets a lown chair to the finish so you can wait for me!

Mel - You've GOT to do CDC!!!

OK, I jumped hurdle #1 to CDC. Now to call my brother. He's not much of a phone person, but I'll sacrifice to try to be with WISHers. :goodvibes

We ended up there for our first night (Fri) due to my unknown status as to whether I'd be able to make the half marathon to see DW run or whether I'd have to drive down on Sat. I showed up late (11pmish?) and we then got up at like 3:30 or something obscene, ran the race, and came back and checked out by noon (they let us late checkout) so my theory is as long as the bed is livable, forking out a bunch of cash for those pre-race nights seems pretty pointless.

My one tip on Pop though, "pool view" is translated to "screaming kids at all hours both day and night regardless of pool hours." :sad2:

My opinion on Pop? I love it! I've stayed at most of the deluxes, all of the moderates, FW, and ASMu, and the Minnie will be my 5th stay at Pop. I'm not crazy about the food court, but I have found the bus transportation to be great and I love the walking/running path along the lake. I also love the tacky icons! I don't usually spend a lot of my time in the room, so Pop works great for me!

I should be in bed...

Krista - Echoing what Kelley said - crockpot is definitely the solution, but absolutely use the liner bags! And we use a lot of the frozen boneless chicken breasts that don't need to be thawed before you cook them (not necessarily for the crockpot, but I'll pour a jar of salsa over chicken breasts and cook them for an hour - for some reason my family thinks that's a gourmet meal!)
And yes, I love your avatar! I want to get a really good picture of Mystic, but it's almost impossible to photograph a solid black dog. No matter how hard we try (and DH is a really good photographer), her face just disappears.

The treadmill is FINALLY set up. DD and I put it together last night. To be honest, DD did 90% of the work. I am mechanically challenged, to say the least. I've been so tired since that I haven't actually used the thing yet, but I'm enjoying looking at it! My sister and niece are coming from CA this weekend, and then we're going to visit more family, so I've been cleaning house, doing laundry, shopping for new clothes to wear to the party...

Hello Everyone!!

Ok so my hopes of keeping up this week went down the drain:headache:

My trip to Disney last week got worse (what's worse than your kid puking all over the hotel and table in restaraunt???:confused3 ) getting home and on Monday realizing you left your driver's liscence in the hotel room!!!:rotfl:

Now I can laugh because today in the mail, not only did I get liscence but DS-11's book that we left there, that he bought with his own money (and it was JACK SPARROW pirate: - so you can imagine his dispair!) In case you wonder, as I did, how could someone leave such important items behind, I did have a 7 year old having "protien spills" at the time and I was a little pre-occupied.

Before I get on my frustrated self I wanted to say -

MEL - awesome pace earlier this week!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry i know that is late, but better late than never right???

So here is my dilemma. I am not feeling like I am training for anything right now. I am lucky if I run 3 to 4 days a week. I guess I am most frustrated cause we were racking in some awesome times, not that long a go. The thing is, I tend to overdo things and my question is, how often do most of you guys run/walk a week. When we were training for marathons I felt like we were doing so much more!! And I am so frustrated right now!!

Now I am trying to remind myself that this is just a season, in 6 & 1/2 weeks I will be done with school and I have had some awesome opportunities lately. I fly out to Norfolk, VA next Wednesday to spend 3 days on an aircraft carrier to help construct a structure that my professor developed for the navy (awesome opportunity   ) But all I can think about is where and when am i going to run!!! :rotfl: but the entire 5000 square foot structure is made of steel, i would say that counts as XT right??? :confused3

OK so I hope everyone's training is going well and I am sorry for everyone I missed.
Oh and :welcome: to our new members, this group is AWESOME!!!!

Was randomly going through old race sites and found these pics of myself from way back on Jan 20th of this year when I did an all trail 15k as my first long run post marathon... I just had to post them because check out what happened to me between the middle of the race and the finish! :rotfl2:
BaytoBreakfast15k.jpg
BaytoBreakfast15k2.jpg

No clue what happened with the camera!

Angie - I'm not much of an expert post marathon, but I have heard that there is a certain down point after you run since you achieved the big goal, so now what? You have a ton on your plate - school, your new job, your family - its OK if sometimes running takes a back seat. Just focus on enjoying your last semester of school and savoring how great it will feel to be done, then celebrating at the Minnie! I personally run 3 days a week, then do other workouts another 3 days a week or so. I'm trying not to overdo the running for fear of aggravating my old injury again, but running enough so that I am properly trained. Anyhow, best thing I can say is, take it easy on yourself. You don't want to risk getting burned out!

Oh, on the socks question - I only have a couple pairs and haven't tried them extensively, but I have heard that WrightSocks are great. They are double layered and have a no blister promise.

OK, time for a quick shower, then the Idol results show. I have a breakfast seminar that starts at 6:45 am tomorrow...yikes!! :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

Had my second day of 5K training with my princesses, DD6 princess: and DD9 princess:, we did 1.54 miles in 28 min. We did a 5 min warmup walk followed by 1mR/1.5mW for 23 min. They did great. Afterwards I ran 4.75 miles in 45:14 for 9:31 mpm pace. It was an OK run, nothing special, nothing great. Just got my steps in.

Kevin- I'm very curious to read the replies you get about Pop Century. I still don't know if I can make it to WDW in January either. I may be doing a budget solo trip myself, and stay at Pop Century or the All Star resorts too.

Carrie- I wanted to make sure I said hi too so as not to invoke any wrath.

Jen- How'd the balance ball training go? I here you about getting nervous to see that the full marathon is 50% full already. I'm hoping it doesn't change for a while. I need a lot of time to figure out if I can go. If I'm able to go, I will definitely be there to cheer you on in the marathon. One advantage of going solo is making sure I can do all the WISH functions and going out on the course to cheer on my teammates.

Leana- Congrats on registering your Mom for the half. Where are you going to be staying?

Mel- Airtran is the only airline that has nonstop flights from Rochester to Orlando, so my family has flown them a couple of times. They were always fine for us. Nothing special, but they arrived on time, no luggage lost, etc. Plus their prices are pretty good. I wouldn't have any trouble flying them again. For a ~$25 difference I would definitely choose the nonstop flight.

Lily- Yahoo on your 3.1 miles on the TM! Great to see you back posting.

Jackie- Congrats on getting your TM setup.

Angie- Oh no!!! You left your driver's license in the hotel room? As far as my running goes, right now I am running 4 days a week, x-training 2 days a week, and having 1 rest day. Although, this week one of my x-training days became a rest day. I think you are fine running "only" 3-4 days a week. Don't worry about it Angie. Your body will appreciate having some rest time. Although, I have to admit if I ran on the steel deck of an aircraft carrier I don't think my shins would ever forgive me.

Matt- Wow, how many gels did you take in to gain so much weight in the middle of your race?

Okay question time :rolleyes1

I am traveling for business to Orlando :cool1: from Sun-Wed. I will have Sunday free (arrive at MCO about 11am) to do whatever. I'm thinking of a quick trip to Disney (my hotel is about 30mins away). This is my first ever long distance trip as a solo.

So -
#1 - Would you do this? Is it safe for a solo at Disney?
#2 - If the answer is yes what would you do with your time????

Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

It is very safe to do WDW as a solo. In fact, I enjoy it because it gives me a chance to do what I want to do.

The parks are busy and full so as an option you might want to consider Downtown Disney. It will give you a chance to walk around and enjoy the sun. You can end up at the Irish pub and enjoy some entertainment!

I run only 4 days a week, max. 1 days rest and 2 days cross training. That did not change even during marathon season, in fact I dropped it down to 3 days a week. More then that I get burned out and start risking injury.

It is not about getting miles in, but making sure each workout has a specific goal.

Jim- your running plan is the same as mine. I dropped down to 3 days a week during the marathon training too because my shins started to bother me.

Does anyone know anything about AirTran? I can get a nonstop from Sarasota to Midway for $243 or can fly ComAir with a stop in Atlanta for $224. I haven't flown anywhere in about 7 years so I'm out of practice.
:guilty:

Mel--we fly AirTran all the time from Dayton, Ohio to MCO. We love it. Our only other real choice out of the southwest Ohio airports is Delta, and they've been lacking on service lately. I've never had a problem with AirTran. I've had a friend get his luggage lost, but I guess that can happen with any airline. And if you can avoid connecting in Atlanta for an extra $19, I would DEFINITELY do it. I fly all the time, and Atlanta is my absolute least favorite airport for a layover (although I rarely see much of it as I'm always running, yes literally running, to my gate for the next flight due to late connecting arrivals).

Matt--maybe you loaded up on too much sodium and retained all the fluid you drank throughout the race? Maybe all the fluid you drank for the previous month?? :confused3

Well, we booked the Chicago Hilton for the CDC weekend last night. You know, "just in case" we decide to run the race. :) We were actually getting really excited about it last night and then started looking up possibly restaurants to eat the night after the race, places to see, etc. It felt like a Disney planning night at the Fulkerson house. :)

Ok, gotta go do some work. Talk to you guys later!

Steve

Morning WISH team! I'm thinking day by day that my knee pain is more IT band related than runner's knee. UGH! But, I've been icing and stretching--so hopefully I caught it early! Going to Gliding Harmony this am and then running clinic this afternoon (which will be walking clinic for me as I will be pushing 60lbs of kiddos)

Rosy--forgot to mention sock--WrightSock for Running are wonderful!!!!:thumbsup2 It was really hard for me to spend $7 on one pair of socks, but they have a 100% guarantee against blister---and they just feel heavenly on my feet.

Matt--Wow, maybe a little water retention???:rotfl2:

Angie--Um, what do you mean not training for anything??? Aren't you still doing hte Minnie???? But maybe I should be glad that you're not "training" for Minnie, so you won't be so super speedy and we can run together! But I know what you mean, I've had a pretty down week with running--just post race blues--guess that's why I keep planning more races!

Well, I should go--gotta finish my coffee!

   Awesome!!

Dave - :rotfl:

Angie - MfM only require 3 to 4 days per week of running and XT for 2 days for the full plan. I know some people do more, but I'm sure I'd end up hurt, eevn if life allowed me to run more. I'm sure you're fine. So sorry your trip got worse!

Steve & Krista - Yay for the hotel room!

Matt - ROTFL!! :rotfl2:

Mel - You may want to wait a couple weeks and try allegiantair.com. They fly CLearwater/St. Pete to Rockford for $79 o/w if you can do Thur to SUn. The end of the month is not out yet, though. (OK, scratch that. It was advertised as Chicago/Rockford, but ti's about 80 miles away.)

Speaking of weight, add me to the list of people gaining weight as the mileage adds up! I am seriously considering taking a hiatus from training after the Minnie just to lose some of this weight that has crept up on me.

I've been thinking the same thing! I need to take a break from marathon running to get my weight back down. How strange is that?

But, Matt, proved with actual photos that running does indeed cause weight gain:rotfl:

Steve (and others) I have a theory about this crazy work thing. Maybe we've spent too much time in "la la land" aka marathon training and all of the sudden the skipped work has caught up with us? Just a thought. But I am sure under the gun:sad2:

Cam-- I can't get over your running success. Kudos and keep up the great work!

Andrew, Steve and others-- I am the proud new owner of a Pacemaster Platinum Pro VR (at least on paper). It is scheduled for deliver and assembly next Wednesday. I hope it was the right decision. I came close to buying a Nordictrac online, but just couldn't bring myself to buying something I haven't tried.

Thanks everyone for your input on the TM opinions!

I would love to do Chicago but there is no way I could justify the money or vacation time for something that doesn't include my family in any way. No one would like to visit Chicago:confused:

Krista-- love the avatar. I had to go searching for it after reading everyone's reponse!

Colleen- That is great news for DH. I'll be waiting to see you in 2008!

Minnie-- I made a solo trip that was actually intended for Tampa, but I flew into MCO and stayed near WDW and drove to Tampa for my one day meeting. I had my one and only AP at the time so I did to trips to WDW solo. One stayig late at Epcot and the other leaving DTD at about 1AM. I never felt unsafe. As long as the are of your hotel feels safe, the Disney end is fine! Have fun!

I did 4.something outside yesterday. I overestimate the temp and was way underdressed. Oh, avg pace was 11:52. Anyway, I was about to shower and DD just had to brush her teeth right then, so I wrapped in a towel and let her in. She said, "wow you are really tanned":rotfl: It was wind burn! My whole body was red!

Sunny

All this talk of Chicago had me checking hotel rates!!!! I can do it by driving down Saturday and leaving Sunday... no work off. But that seems so rushed. Tonight I am hitting the indoor track with DD6 while DDalmost4 has gymnastics. DD6 wants to run with me.

Dave - Oh the Balance Ball. It does killer ab crunches. So after I was done with my "workout" I decide to roll off backwards and try to attempt an uncoordinated handstand. I knew I would never actually get into handstand mode, but none the less I tried.... I lost my balance and fell off... onto one of the kids toys. I screamed and laughed at the same time. And yes, DH was watching me the whole time. :rotfl:

Sunny - Congrats on the new TM. Let us know how you like it once you have time to run on it.

Carrie - We are special, aren't we!!! :goodvibes

Matt - Yowzers, that is one goofy picture!!!! Was it only your pic or were a lot of others all squatty?

Kevin - We were thinking of taking a budget trip and staying at Pop. I would rather stay on Disney property than off. Although I am spoiled by Monorail and boat transportation, I think I can still stay in the Disney Spirit at Pop. I was only there once and that was for the WISH meet and eat. But we did walk around a bit to check it out.

OK, gotta run. We are still filming video, hopefull finishing next week. I am not as artistic as Krista being a sorority girl. I guess I am just a boring person telling people how to use software!

Greetings -

This morning I did 3 miles at 4.0 at 1%. Still not fast enough to keep up with Cam, though. :rolleyes1

I got a pair of Champion compression shorts yesterday. Well, I can say...they certainly do compress. Unfortunately not enough. You can still show the wide screen version of "Titanic" on my back side. I like the way they feel though. Guess I'll just have to not care what I look like. :scared: Ugh.

Steve - I'm so glad I could make you laugh! ;) Stick around and I'll do my best to keep you amused.

Kevin
- Oh KEVIN! If you do NYC you darn well better let me know! I am about 35-40 min from Manhattan. :yay: Personally, I like PC. It is a value, so it is what it is, but I think it's a fun resort and a really good deal.

Minnie - I'm going to be solo for three days after the Minnie (not after you, the 15K!). I am not at all worried about it. The only advice I would give you is be confident. Don't ever look like a victim. That means everywhere, the airport, WDW, everywhere. Don't ever make yourself look like an easy mark.

Well, actually no one gets the picture now!!!!

Jen - OMG! :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: Oh hey, great entertainment on the Balance Ball!

Mel - We LOVE LOVE LOVE AirTran. We take them to Florida from New York every time. Never had a problem! :thumbsup2

Matt - Whoa! You get run over or what?? You're flat! :lmao: HA HA HA! Thanks for sharing.

(Ladies - Ever notice how every guy on the WISH boards is a TOTAL FOX!!?!?! WHOOO HOOO! If that ain't reason enough to hang around here I don't know what is!)

Dave - We have stayed at ASMu & ASMo and PC. I like PC much better. :thumbsup2 But, that's just me.

Sunny - Congratulations on the TM! :woohoo: You will so love having your own TM at home. To us it made a world of difference (Read: We actually used it instead of coming up with excuses why we couldn't go to the gym.)

Well, it's nice to have the Boards back. :surfweb: I had to do actual work yesterday! Ewwwww!

:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: Don't be so hard on your self! I've got my own FLAT screen problem!

FYI - I started a new thread for Recipes. I posted a bunch of crockpot recipes for people that want to eat well, but have no time!!!

Krista - I see you found the recipes already. I have more at home that I can post!!! :thumbsup2

Hi Everyone,

Thanks very much for the warm welcome.

Carrie I think you are right about not setting a time goal for the marathon, but I think that is going to be very hard for me to do. I think it's been programmed in me. I'll have to work a little on enjoying the journey and not the destination.

Angie I'm sorry to hear about your training frustration. You should try to give yourself permission to cut back on training for a while. That way you won't feel so guilty about "only" running 3 or 4 times a week. You could also take this time to concentrate on stretching, or eating healthier (in addition to all the other things you have going on in your life!) so you still feel like you're making forward progress.

Sunny Congratulations on the TM purchase. I would not have survived this winter without mine.

Kevin Good luck with the NYC lottery. I can't even imagine running with so many other people, although I think it would be great to experience the energy of NYC Marathon at least once.

It's definately hard to keep up with everyone, I'll have to work on it a bit. Best wishes to all I've missed.

Cindy
