Wk of Mar 18--WISH Walking/Running Club

Thanks Jackie - it seems like such a great resort, just hopefully the construction won't be too much in the way. I hope your shin starts to feel better!

Got my 2 miler in this evening. My feet felt like concrete blocks, but I think that was because the route I was on was super hilly. All the up/down, up/down started to make my shins and right, gimpy ankle hurt slightly. I tried to take it easier on the pace so I wasn't pushing it so much. Ran the two miles in 22:48.

OK, I'm starving must go eat. Oh, and for all my fellow AI fans - Stephanie - WHAT???? How is Sanjaya still there after Tuesday night's abomination of a song he sang? At this rate that boy is going to stick around for weeks... Not to be mean to the guy, but Stephanie did not deserve to go...

I'm sorry for those of yu who can't do CDC, Pig and/or Minnie. Last year I did not do those or the innaugural DL that so many here did. I feel your pain adn wish everyone could come to everything!

I did 50 minutes at a 10:28 pace! :woohoo: Weather was great, although still a bit windy. A total of 4.78 miles, just over half a 15K. No way I coudl have gone double at that pace, though. OH well, it just feels great to be off the TM! (Not that I was very good at staying on. :rotfl: )

Hi, everyone! In my 30 minutes on the TM I was able to get in 2.4 miles! Fastest ever! My first mile was 12:05!!!! I exhausted myself! :lmao: THEN I got on the bike -- 30 minutes. 6.17 miles. Oh, and I burned a total of 450 calories, according to the equipment I was on -- sparkpeople says it was more than 500, but I'll go with 450!

Cam - GREAT JOB on your workout! :thumbsup2

Jackie - I hope your shins feel better! If they don't take it easy and then you can get back into your routine next week. Oh and I won't be at Chicago or Minnie either ;)

I got 2.5ish miles in tonight. Walking and pushing hte kiddos at the clinic. BUT, I was talking to one of the advanced runner group leaders at the end, and we might have uncovered the cause of my knee/IT band issue. She came up to me to suggest a new location for the intermediate/advanced runners b/c the loop we have been running is severely sloped (not uphill/downhill, but sloped--one side of the trail higher than the other). She was concerned that the slope was going to cause some injuries if we kept running it--twice a week. And then I mentioned my pain;she immediately attributed it to the sloping trail. And then it occurred to me that the pain started after I started the clinic--maybe a coincidence, but don't think so. So, next week, we're heading to a flat area to try--we'll see if that helps out!

Oh, and funny thing also happened tonight. I was just chatting with a friend while walking and somehow the WDW marathon came up in the conversation. One of the leaders raced up and said, "did I hear that you're doing the Disney marathon? We did Goofy last year" I said, "Too bad it's already full for this next year, made my decision easy" She got this look on her face "What do you mean it's already full!!!" Oops, didn't mean to spoil her evening!

All righty--I've rambled on enough for tonight! Night all!

Hey All,

I registered myself and DD14 for the WDW half today. I have finally taken the big step - oh....my....gawrsh.

I plead with you all to ask Mel for more recipes to post. Apparently that is the only way I'm gonna get them written down so I can make them!

Love my Brooks Axioms; I wish I could wear them to work, since they are so comfortable....but I think they are a bit freaky for my office.

Later!
Jeff

Hello Everyone

Thanks for all of the encouragement and in put on how you guys train.

After my :charac2: :charac2: :charac2: :charac2: last night, ran with DH tonight did 4 miles, with the last two miles at 17 minutes - 8.5 minute average, the other two were slower. Did whole thing in about 34 minutes :cool1: :cool1:

OK so no more wining about the lack of training, but i have to say

:disrocks:

You guys are awesome!!

Cam - Good job on run
Stephanie - I am training for Minnie, I did not explain myself very well, I feel like i am not training well is what I was trying to say. And about your knee, the hill thing is a definate cause, when I did all of my research on runner's knee everything I read said something about hill and speed work!

Have to take a shower!! Did my run then cleaned the house EEEEW!!

angie

:faint: 8:30s ANgie? And you're afraid you're out of shape???? OMG, please don't add any runs to your week or you'll burn up the course and we'll have to try to get around teh flames! ;)

Jeff - Woo hoo!!!!! lol. I see mel's been on therecipie thread, so I think you're in luck. I need to get my dh to cvisit it fro ideas too. ;) (Not that he needs help, but he likes variety)

Stephanie - IHow cool. It's so neat to meet otehr Disney mrathoners. We have someone on our bike path that dh always called "crazy guy", because he said more than hi when we passed him. heaven frobid someone be extra fiendly! :p Well, we found out lasat spring that he had done Goofy.. lol, now he's Goofy Guy. BTW, running on a slope like that very likely caused your problem. Even teh normal slope of a road, if you always run teh same way, can do it. Hope the flat helps!

CAm - You rock! I think you may need that lawn chair at the finish!

rosy - Your "good morning" cracks me up. I just can't comprehend that you're so far away.

Minnie - HAve fun SUnday!

Leana - Way to go on gettign your steps in, even when you were not in the groove. Don't push those aches & pains too much, though.

Jackie - tough choioce. I'd normally say give it a rest, but you've got that shiney new TM. Then agin, it's rest or TM. I'd pick rest! ;)

Paul - I hear when they hit their teens they sleep through the night. That's when tehy keep you up staying out late, though. ;) Hang in there!

Oh, did I mention that I was gonna' go slow to night ebcause we were noth exhausted? ;) It's so hard to start, but after a bit I feel so much better.

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

Tough training run yesterday, I did 3 miles in 31:10/10:23 mpm. However it was a hill workout, I did 3x hill repeats on a really long, steep hill in Mt Hope Cemetery. My mile warmup before the hills was 9:34 min, and my my after the hills was 9:40 min. In between, during the hill workout, my mile was 11:55 min. It was a tough, tough hill. Plus it started raining on me too, and the wind was kickin' chicken.

OK, all this talk about the CDC has me wanting to sign up for that one too. I need to check the budget on that one though. I don't know if I can travel to Chicago and Disney. Although, something else I want to do this summer is run the 10K road race in the Empire State Games here in NY. Judy, remember it's in Westchester County this year July 25-29.

Christa- your post cracked me up - about fluffing your nasty hair. Hope your clients didn't notice.

Kristin- I think it's so cool that we have a team mate in Japan. Hey, cool you did a hill workout yesterday too. I'm right there with you.

Paul- I WISH I could go in on a room with you, but I am really not even close to the point of knowing whether I can plan a solo trip or not. In my heart of hearts I still kind of hope DW and I can take a grownup trip down, and the Cool Aunt can come watch the princesses. Hope you're having fun with the baby.

Colleen- I don't know if I ever said that it's great that your DH can defer his Boston entry. Did you decide what to do with the plane tickets? Can you pay the change fee and turn them into tickets to Cincinnati for the Pig?

Minnie- You can always do a character meal on your own. That way you wouldn't be eating by yourself!

Jackie- Oh no, not the shin spints again!!! Ice, ice, ice! Glad the pain eased when you switched to your running shoes.

Leana- Good job on your hilly run. Ice your shins if they start bothering you.

Carrie- I'm so glad you are getting some outside runs again. Great job on the 4.78 miles, and covering half the 15K. Did you go to Kensington? Boy I should look for a race in Kensington MP and come out for a run. My BIL is still in Ann Arbor.

Cam- nice job on your duathon! Wow, you're a multisport athlete now!

Stephanie- That's interesting about the slope on the road maybe causing your IT band trouble. That's so great that you still have a good training group. I did the "Learn to Run" program at my Fleet Feet, but I haven't gotten the nerve to go run with the advanced runners there. They are sooooo fast. Plus, it's kind of nice just fitting the runs on my schedule. I think after the Pig, I am going to try to join them for some track workouts.

Jeff- Congrats on registering you and DD for the half! Whoo hoo! You're committed now.

Angie- Good job getting your 4 miles in. Don't worry about your training right now. You have a good base built up, and you're still putting the steps in. You'll be fine. Listen to your body and mind. It sounds like you might need a bit of a break.

Angie--Wow--the WISH teamers are sure getting fast!!! WTG!!

Dave--funny thing is that I'm the only "advanced" runner in the group, besides the leaders. And it seems like the other women in my group are afraid to run with me. Never thought of myself as super speedy:rotfl: But it really is good to get advice from women that are a few years older and a lot more experienced than I am.

Jeff--WooHoo on registering for the Half!!! Will be screaming for you!!

Today is a rest day for me. I got a call this morning saying that I don't need to babysit today b/c the baby is sick, and I thought "Hey, I could get a run in now!" But then I reminded myself that I need to heal my knee and let my muscles recover a little. Now, what to do with the kiddos today???? TGIF all!

CDC??? Center For Disease Control? Nah JK again! I know what it means.:lmao:

:rotfl: I spend most of my time in bio-chem defense and that is exactly what I thought when I saw CDC! Would not make for a very fun WISH meet!

The snow is melting:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Good Morning Everyone. Lesley and I returned from our Anglo-Franco adventure late yesterday afternoon, and after a good night's sleep and a very early wake up I feel nearly human again.

I did scan through the 16 pages of posts last night and you've all been busy. The sudden rush to the Chicago Distance Classic did pull me in and I thought hard about doing it, but the date conflicts with my stint at CU Boulder so I'll have to pass.

Our trip? Busy and very cool. The highlight, no doubt, was Saturday afternoon at White Hart Lane when we watched Tottenham Hartspur play Watford City. White Hart Lane holds 36,000 spectators, and every seat was filled. We got into our seats a hour before the match (row 6 just to the right of one goal!!) and watched the show. The best part was the Spurs' supporters, who sang songs all match, sometimes unkind songs directed at the Watford fans, sometimes to the Spurs' players, and sometimes back and forth across the staduim to themselves. The people around us were very kind and helpful, and appreciated the 2 of us had travelled 3000 miles to see the match. The match was pretty sloppy for the first 30 minutes, then quite exciting for the last 60. Spurs goalkeeper actually scored on a 70 yard shot, and I immediately wished I had put 10 pounds on that unlikely event at the bookmakers booth INSIDE THE STADIUM. It was a long ball from the keeper into the top of the penalty area, which the Watford defenders and goalkeeper all miserably misplayed. The Watford keeper ran out to catch it, realized it was going to bounce in front of him, ran back, realized it was going to bounce over his head, then watched it bounce into the goal. The Spurs supporters all mobbed us and said, "you'll always remember you were here when Robinson scored." I know there are a few soccer supporters out there, and you all would have loved it.

We also hit the major sites and attractions in London and Paris, keeping us on the move for the entire 6 days. I didn't train at all, but between the walking and stairs (to the top of St. Paul's, to the top of Montmatre, to the 1st level of the Eiffel Tower, all over the Tower of London) I got the leg work in.

Also, I pulled a Vic. You see there was a ledge sticking out about 1/2 inch from the tub, and I didn't see it. Left leg went up and toe #4 went crack. Blood and squeeking ensued. I was able to walk with a bit of a limp that day. Day #2 the toe was better but the calf was a huge knot from walking funny. Today I'll bike, tomorrow I'll lift, and hopefully Sunday I'll be able to run.

They are calling for nice Saturday and miserable Sunday, so unfortunately I'll be inside. Perhaps soon I'll get that first outdoor run in. And thanks to all you Florida folks for pointing out how nice it has been for outdoor running. Someday we'll be able to pay you back.

Craig

Good morning TEAM!!! Happy Friday!! I think it's time to get new shoes. My shoes don't have many miles on them *maybe* 200, but they have caused me so much trouble that I think I'm done with them. I think I'm done with New Balance overall. Stephen's trying to get me to get the Gel Kanyano's, but we'll see what the running store has to say. I ran 4 miles on the treadmill last night and ended up with a time of 45:23--not too bad, but I still want to work on getting faster without aggravating my IT band. I did r3/w2--running at 5.7 and an incline of 1.5% and walking at 4.6 and an incline of 2. After I was finished running, I did the walk on the treadmill backwards thing, I only did it for about 4 minutes, I had the incline set at 4 and it was killing my legs!!!! I also did my poor man's gym--a pair of ankle weights strapped to my legs with a series of leg lifts and crunches. Who knew 10lbs could hurt so much??? So why the new shoes? I finally get my IT band taken care of and now I have shin splints. Terrible shin splints with pain shooting up and down my shins that felt like muscle spasms and they lasted the entire 4 miles. :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: I can't win!!! :)

Jeff--CONGRATS!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: That is so exciting that you and Kaylie (did I spell that right? Or is it Kaylee) signed up for the half.

Craig--I'm glad you and Lesley are home safe and sound. It sounds like you had an incredible vacation. My sister in-law and brother in-law are in Europe right now. I am SO jealous!!!!

Carrie--You are getting fast!!!!! I'm going to have to train really hard to keep up with you at CDC. Now I have my goal. ;)

Stephanie--I think resting is the BEST thing you could do today. I definitely agree with you, I think it's the hills that are your problem.

Angie--Awesome 4 miler!! Wow, you are fast! Do you wanna come and clean my house? Pretty please! :cutie:

Cam--You are a machine!! First the TM and then the bike!!! You go girl!! :cheer2: :woohoo: :dance3:

Mel--I am so glad you decided to come to Chicago. We are going to have a great time. I am so excited!!!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Dave--I think a weekend trip to WDW for the marathon would be great for you and DW. Do you think maybe you can agree to not buy each other Christmas presents this year and then use that amount toward Disney? It might help with the budget a little bit. Good luck figuring it out. Oh, 6 weeks from today you'll be getting ready to start your journey south. :upsidedow

Leana--:offtopic: AI--why is Stephanie gone and Sanjaya is STILL there? Stupid teeny-boppers....

Kristin--I guess you are getting ready to head to bed. ;) Did you figure out something with your shoes?

Well, I'm going to enjoy my rest day today (hopefully) and then gear up for my 8 miler tomorrow. Stephen is running a 15K on Sunday, I should run it with him, but the course is downtown and I'm scared it's too soon to face hills. I'll have to live vicariously through him.

Whew! I have not been able to sign on and some how I got way behind. So here is my cross training: I caught up w/ posts!!!

Judy - I'm on the "no" list for most of those events too:sad2: I'm still hoping to do WDW again though.

Sunny - I'm glad the snow is melting!! I echo your sentiments about the training getting in the way of work. Everything seems to be catching up w/ me! Did you pick a TM??? I thought CDC was CDC too!! (I'm a bird flu phobe!!)

Matt - Maybe you should've put the other picture first then you could have claimed a great b/4 and after photo.

Dave - Hi.

Krista - I wouldn't worry about missing or shortening a run. I would rather be rested than worn out!

Christa - I never poof my nasty hair, I have to pull it back!! Although I have found that sometimes it actually looks better after being in a bike helmet!!:confused3

Here is the link to checkpoint tracker for the race we are doing this weekend. I'm thinking it should take us around 24 hours (we are team JUMP- that is for John, Melissa dn Phil. We haven't found an Ursula yet!)

:lmao: I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing with you. :lmao:

Good morning everyone!

2.75 on the TM last night. 12:30 pace at 2% incline. This is going to be my last run on the TM unless the weather or work get in the way. It's been too nice not to hit the streets.

I ordered a pair of trail shoes. Found Asics GT-2120 trail shoes through the Base Exchange for a pretty good price, so I bought them.

Won't be able to make it to the CDC. Hope those of you that are going have a great time.

I guess I'm going to have to break the crock pot out. There's been some great recipes posted. :thumbsup2

Everyone - keep up the great work with your training.

To our new team mates - :welcome:
Take care. :)

What an active group literally and figuratively. My disboards email notices were showing up blank now I'm not getting any so I'm behind.

Yesterday did 4 miles on TM wearing HRM. I'm now able to stay in 'aerobic' range at 5.0 speed/12 min/mile so it took me 48 minutes. This is an improvent as far as the HRM but feels slow because I was running regularly at 6.0 speed/10 min/mile. Hoping this kind of training will help in the long run.

Cam- Are you a Spark Person, too?

Stephanie- I ruined someone's day yesterday, too. A guy at the Y on the next treadmill was saying he would sign up for the Goofy before it closed. I hated telling him.

Dave- I'm using your avatar as a motivation for my Chi running efforts. Picturing Yoda on Luke's back is helping me remember to lean forward. Thanks for the inspiration.

Going to do another 4 miles outside this afternoon if the rain lets up. Have a great Friday!

Kiena

Morning everyone. I had a great walk last night except for the last mile which was in pouring rain. I did 11 miles in 2hrs 38 minutes. I started off only going to do 10, but felt really good so I thought I could do 12 until the rain came and I called it quits at 11.

I am stopping tonight after work about new sneakers. I just bought New Balance 844 about 4 weeks ago which was recommended by the man the specialty store. Just not sure what to try next.

I guess I really need to make a decision which race I am going to do either the 1/2 or the full since the 1/2 is now 60% filled and 50% for the full. I was hoping I could delay it until after Allentown the end of next month, but I'm afraid if I wait won't get in. At this point I fill most comfortable registering for the 1/2. I don't think I have enough hours in a day to train for the full.

Nancy

Dave - My area is really too beautiful to drive 2.5 hours to Kensington on a weeknight. ;) I'm on the west side. I just go there when we visit my parents or go to a UM game. Great job on hanging in there when the wind was finger-lickin' good? :p

Krista - Bring it on! :p That would be so cool if you ran with us! MAybe I would even let Scott run with teh rest of the boys, then. ;) MAybe not, though.

Nancy - If you're cablable of runngn 11 miles now, go full!!! Holy cow, this time before the 06 marathon, we were probably doing a w/r of around 5 miles. We ran the full in 06.

Kiena - Have fun with your 4!

Melissa - :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I've heard some XT activities tha twere a bit of a stretch, but htat one takes the cake! 24 hours? :faint: Good luck!!!

Vic - I can't believ you TM in FL winters. ;) Have fun on the trails. I think we need to add soem of that this year.

Craig - Welcome back! Glad you had a great trip! Sorry about the toe, though. Hop eit heals quickly! :wizard:

Stephanie - Hope your pain-free soon! :wizard:

Sunny - CDC??? You know you want to! ;)

OK, the plan just calls for 4 tomorrow. Doing less on a LR than a SR seems wrong, adn MArtha's doing 70 minutes, so we'll have to see. ;) Now, to see what Krista's doing and make sure I do more than her. :p

The sun is shining and it was 42 when I got up. Think we might hit 60s this weekend!

That's amazing, Nancy! I knew once you got to walking outside you would really rack up the miles.

I really hit a snag with my training this week. Tuesday I did my little sprint walk. Afterwards, my feet were stiff as is usual for me, but nothing out of the ordinary. When I woke up Wednesday, I couldn't put any weight on my left foot. No swelling, but serious pain. I'm thinking stress fracture, but whatever it was I didn't feel it happen.I tried icing and elevating it, but it was still bad when I went to bed. Thursday it was a little better, but I was still limping. Thursday night I had to go out and it seemed like the forced walking made me feel better. Last night I was totally pain free. Today I am limping again and I wonder what's wrong. Arthritis, maybe? Anyone have any suggestions? Tomorrow is supposed to be my distance day, but at this point, I don't know if it's going to happen. This upcoming marathon has been the focus of my life for the past few months. I don't even want to think about the possibility of not being able to do it.
