Wk of Mar 11--WISH Walking/Running Club

Judy:  and :wizard: for you, Mist and Charlie.

Bill: the nursery sounds like it's coming together! Is this baby #1? How was the race?

Jen: congrats on getting outside!! No matter how the run itself was, being outside makes it great.

Mel: AWESOME run! It must have felt great! Kudos to you. :woohoo:

Stacey: thanks for the tip re: elastic shoelaces. My problem is that they are never long enough. I have to use the extra holes to keep them from slipping since they have to be a size or more bigger for running.

Jackie: sorry you weren't feeling well! Several people I work with are prone to migraines. When that happens we try to keep the noise down and lights low. They say it helps. I'm glad you felt well enough to go out for a run.

Erica & Jeanne: :welcome:

For everyone who got to run outside today (incuding me)

Kristi: sorry to hear about the headache during the run. Hope you're feeling better!

I got outside today for a 60 min run and can I just say, it was AWESOME!!! I felt great, hip held up very well and I was flying! :woohoo: The weather was wonderful near 50 degrees. Thanks to all the southern folks for sending it our way. Much appreciated!

Everyone have a great day!!

My apologies for being MIA these past few days. We have two nurses out for personal reasons and another that left the University to move away and work closer to her hometown so there were quite a few holes to fill for O.T. I promise to catch up with this thread, and post a few replies from last thread, tomorrow. Judy, sorry to hear about your loss. It is good to hear that you have a strong support system at home to help you throught this very difficult time.

Talk to you all tommorrow....gotta go (I'm on lunch at work and was having DISwithdrawl - an actual diagnosis! )

Hi TEAM!

Well the snow shoe 5k was great! There must have been 2000 people there, all in pink, or yellow and all racing for a great cause. The weather was perfect the entire time of the race, the course was alittle "crunchy", but wasn't too bad. When I got home I went for a jacuzzi soak and must have been soaking for 10 mins. when it started to dump. Thank heavens it waited til after the race.

Mel - Great timing on your 5k. Coolrunning.com sounds interesting, thanks for posting the website.:surfweb:

Tiff - Sounds like training is going well. Good luck to your DS:yay:

Jackie - Wow, great time on your 4 miles:)

Erica - Welcome to the TEAM

Jeanne - Welcome and I hope to see you for the full in 08'.

Mike - Thanks for the report:cutie:

Dave - Great timing on your 8.5 miles:woohoo:

Sounds like everyone is doing an awesome job w/training. You guys are such an inspiration to me...I hope to be as quick and dedicated as you:goodvibes

Laurie: Where in Bergen county do you live? Before moving to NC 8 years ago, we lived in Tenafly. We still have great friends there and we go back every now and then.

I just noticed that my name was added to the official race roster......YIPPEE....I feel like I belong here now!

jeanneg - Welcome! Are you really in Wake Forest? I'm in north Raleigh! (Actually I was in WF today for a soccer game). What half are you doing in April?

Erica - Welcome! This group does talk a lot - I have to schedule regular times to check in or I'm hopelessly lost.

Jen - Great job getting outside and running. I know how you feel!

Tiffany - This weather is so fabulous. Makes you feel guilty if you're inside. (Sorry for all you northern guys who haven't warmed up completely yet - we'll try to send as much as we can spare your way!)

Laurie - Great run today!

Leana - Great pace. I can't seem to get below the 12:00, but I'm also not trying to push too hard on the LRs. Maybe next week during the 5K...

Mike - Awesome time! And how incredible that you handled those hills with such ease!

Kristi - Hope the headache goes away. Good for you for getting through 3 miles anyway.

Dave - Your times just keep getting better and better. You'll be running with Christa next year!

Martha - Glad you had a good run OUTSIDE! The migraines happen pretty much every month; I take good drugs for a few days and take it easy until they give up and go away. The headache tried to win out today but I was determined that I was running - it was too gorgeous not to run!

Andrew - Hope you get a break soon (and that the OT pays well!)

Christa - Great race report! You make it sound so easy.

It was so incredibly beautiful this afternoon that DH and I took the dog for a 2-3 mile walk (ah, the wonders of Daylight Saving Time - more time to do that sort of thing). I left the Garmin at home and just walked for the fun of it, although we kept up a really good pace. Now I don't have to feel guilty about the face I closed the door on this morning when I went out for my run! How can a dog look so hurt? :confused3

Jackie

Jackie: I recently moved from Wakefield Plantation to Heritage. I do most of my indoor training at the Kerr Y......small world!
I'm doing the Lehigh Valley Half Marathon on 4/29 in Allentown, PA. My daughter lives in Bethlehem which is the neighboring town so it gives us a good excuse to visit her. She has run the LVHM twice before and the '07 Mickey was her first full. One other DISer (padisneyfan) who lives nearby will be doing it with me and we'll both be walking. She wants to do the Donald in '08 but I think we can go for the full. That's why I'm waiting until the Lehigh Valley one is over before I commit. I hope there will still be time to enroll.

Jeanne - Truly a small world - the soccer game I was at today was in Heritage! I could have said hello if I'd only read your post earlier... We live right behind Millbrook High School, not too far from Wakefield.

Jackie

Welcome Erica and Jeanneg!

Mike - Great job on your race. All i can say is better you than me. I hate hills!

Steve - I tore my achilles, so the surgery was to repair it.

I'm gonna try to keep up better with the thread this week. Hopefully, I'll be able to go back to work after I see the Dr. Tues. I'm getting tired of sitting around not doing too much (not that I'm THAT anxious to go back to work, just want to DO something).

Was there ever an order placed for the hats/visors? I know I responded on that thread as to what I wanted, but I don't remember getting an e-mail about payment.
I did send payment for the shirts. I didn't miss anything about them did I?
I hate not staying caught up on the thread. I feel like I miss too much!

Happy training! :)

Terri

:welcome: :welcome: Jeanneg and Erica

Jackie - way to keep at it even when you weren't feeling your best.

Ashley - Good job on your run.

Monte - I'm glad you enjoyed the snowy 5k.

Goofyguy Mike - Excellent race. You seem very inspired by your performance. I'll be anxious to hear about your progress.

I had my most pressure packed run ever last night. I dropped DD6 of at religious ed class and had just a little over an hour to complete an 8 mile run I had mapped out. Well, I must have taken a wrong turn on a little side street and ended up going almost half a mile too far. Man, I had to book it back to the church so as not to strand the little princess.

Ended up at a 8.03 mpm pace and a lot of strange stares as I sprinted through the parking lot  . I'll try to not cut it so close next time.

Have a good day everyone.

Jackie

Now if that game had been Saturday instead of yesterday, you might have seen me.....the soccer field is part of my 12 mile route! (I only wish it were a complete circle instead of dead-ending)

Jeanne

Terri--I was wondering the same thing about the hats last night. Haven't "seen" Lynne around here lately, so maybe she's just been extrememly busy. :confused3

Not much going on here today--gonna go up to the gym do a little arm strength training. Then I've got my running clinic tonight, gonna try to speed up my 3 miles some. Have a great Monday all!

Terri - I thought I remembered reading somewhere that you were going to do the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco in October. Were you able to register for it? Good luck as you continue to recover from surgery!

I did 45 min of XT yesterday - followed a total body weight workout DVD. Boy, my triceps sure are tired this morning, as are my legs. Today is supposed to be a "stretch and strengthen" day today, so I'm going to do Pilates tonight to take care of that. Thought about running since it is supposed to be quite a bit warmer today compared to tomorrow, but given that my legs are pretty tired from yesterday's workout I figure I'd better stick with the run tomorrow.

Oh - a piece of exciting news - I've lost 4.5 lbs since February! It is nice to see those numbers of the scale inch downward...

I am laughing, because I have been there done that, but mine were at ballet! It is funny how far we can push ourself when our children are waiting for us.
Still a little sore from saturdays race so not sure what to do today. I am xtraining by cleaning my house!
My fridge/freezer went out so I am trying to save food and throw things away.

Thank you all very, very much for your kind words. This has been so hard for me. It still really hurts but at least I can smile now when I look at a picture of her. Which I do, often.

Saturday, since I had a new horse coming in the morning (My friend brought her horse over so Mist won't be alone) I opted to hit the TM for my 5 miles. Hopefully that's the last LR I have to do inside for a while. This morning I did 3 miles, two of them at 4.0 and the last one at 4.2. As soon as the morning gets light earlier I think we are going to switch our morning routine around a bit and train outside whenever the weather is nice. I want as much pavement time as possible.

Say, did you guys see the Haunted Mansion is going to be closed for a while? Wasn't somebody going there soon? Heather, maybe?? :confused3

Minnie - I knew you would know how I feel.

Craig - I'm so surprised that you and Martha knew who Bold Ruler and Somethingroyal were! :thumbsup2 I don't think I have ever met anyone who knew. That's so cool! Quite frankly, I didn't even know. Not that it mattered. I was in love with her and I didn't even care about her pedigree. It wasn't until two weeks after I got her home that my friend Anne told me. She was an Editor at the Reader's Digest and was sent to Claiborne to do a story on Secretariat, so she knew the whole bloodline. Wow, I'm still so impressed that you knew.

Christa - OMG! Your time on that Half!!! :woohoo: WOW!

Bill - Congratulations on getting the baby's room done. Maybe when you are done there you can come up to New York...I have a couple of rooms I'd like to show you...:rolleyes1

Mel - Awesome on running the entire 5K! :thumbsup2 I think that's fabulous!

Vic - What did you think of LV? Slippery, eh? BTW I looked up Niceville on the map, since we have a HUGE map of Florida in our home office. Some day we're going to throw a dart into it and move wherever it lands. :rotfl: Those die cast cars...Got a Swiffer?

Jackie - But I can't go with you outside! ;) Poor, poor dog.....

Erica - :welcome: I'm only a little north of you, on the other side of the Sound. And you are not rude! Talk to us, girl!

Jeanne - :welcome: Sorry, honey, you are NOT "old and fat" here. You are an ATHLETE. Got it??? Even those of us who are "mature" and "bootylicious" are athletes.

MikeGoofyGuy - Wow, excellent pace! :thumbsup2

Andrew
- I've had "DIS withdrawal" myself. It wasn't pretty. :sad2:

OK, let me pretend I like my job. :surfweb:

Thank-you for that, Judy....I like the way you think. "I am an an athlete!" That sounds almost as unbelieveable as the fact that I am "in training". I'll take them both!

Yesterday's race was a bit of a snoozer. The track should be better next year, once the asphalt has time to age. What the heck was Dale Jr. thinking, and why didn't his spotter tell him the pits were closed? The ending to the Busch race on Saturday was excellent!

I can say I've officially attained that coveted status, You Might Be a Redneck. (In my best Jeff Foxworthy voice) If, while dusting your NASCAR shrine, a diecast car rolls off of your desk and smashes your little toe, you might me a redneck.

The little toe on my left foot is a nice shade of black and blue. Don't think it's broken, but it hurts like a mutha. :sad2:

:)

So sorry about being mia last week!! I had family staying w/ us (and they liked using the computer) and the boy got strep again!! I'm hoping to not be so busy this week!

Hello Everyone: OK, this is a major drive-by - :car: but I just had to post.

I just finished my lunchtime run - in fact I still have my running clothes on and I'm dripping with sweat. I did 5 miles outside on my hilly Mt. Hope Cemetery course. Get this - 5 miles, 43:18 min, 8:39 mpm pace!!! I don't know where that came from, but I felt great!!! I just kept churning my legs along. I guess I do run a lot slower on the TM, but it's trained me to take short quick strides. Get these splits:

Mile 1: 8:54
Mile 2: 8:48
Mile 3: 8:50
Mile 4: 8:42
Mile 5: 7:59

I wasn't even trying to run fast. It felt like a quick pace, but I certainly wasn't going all out. Whoo hoo! OK, I need to shower and get back to work. I'll be back!

Hey Team,
I've been MIA for a couple of weeks. Life got in the way once again. What did I mmiss? :rotfl2: Anyway training is going well and the good news is I only have one more long run left next Monday. It is getting real difficult doing high mileage on the treadmill.

Off to rad the race reports.
