Wk of Mar 11--WISH Walking/Running Club

Get these splits:

Mile 1: 8:54
Mile 2: 8:48
Mile 3: 8:50
Mile 4: 8:42
Mile 5: 7:59

I wasn't even trying to run fast. It felt like a quick pace, but I certainly wasn't going all out. Whoo hoo! OK, I need to shower and get back to work. I'll be back!

OMG! Dave those splits are "tight" (new word from DS9, means wicked, good! I think!) How on earth I am going to keep up with you at Disney next year??? Mental note: must do more speedwork!

Hopefully, I will try and get on again today to reply to people. I have another student coming at 1:30 for an Algebra lesson.

Colleen

Hello Everyone: OK, this is a major drive-by - :car: but I just had to post.

I just finished my lunchtime run - in fact I still have my running clothes on and I'm dripping with sweat. I did 5 miles outside on my hilly Mt. Hope Cemetery course. Get this - 5 miles, 43:18 min, 8:39 mpm pace!!! I don't know where that came from, but I felt great!!! I just kept churning my legs along. I guess I do run a lot slower on the TM, but it's trained me to take short quick strides. Get these splits:

Mile 1: 8:54
Mile 2: 8:48
Mile 3: 8:50
Mile 4: 8:42
Mile 5: 7:59

I wasn't even trying to run fast. It felt like a quick pace, but I certainly wasn't going all out. Whoo hoo! OK, I need to shower and get back to work. I'll be back!

You go boy! :thumbsup2

DAVE - WOWZERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1: :cheer2: :thumbsup2

OK, had to say that to Dave first!!! So I managed 35 minutes on the TM at lunch. Nothing like Dave's run, but it was OK for me. I am just glad I got it in. The Y smelled nasty today, so I was just trying to get done!!! :rotfl:

Last night I pulled out the Balance Ball and did some of Cam's crunches and push ups and some other things. WOW, I am feeling it today. I feel like I am getting so much more out of my training this time around, not sure why tho.

Cam - See above... thanks for the Sparkpeople hint. I printed out the moves and the pics are great. My DD3 held the pictures as I did the moves. She was my helper! I can't believe how the crunches on the ball work your abs. I do crunches on the floor and can pelt out 100 of them. I had trouble with 50 on the ball!!!

JUDY - :woohoo: your back!!! It's so good to "see" your words. I am glad you are still training. You are going to be rocking it at the Minnie!!

OK, I have to get some more work done... boooo hisssss

Dave--Wow Speedy!!!!:woohoo: :cool1: :woohoo: I'm gonna have to shave some seconds off my miles if I'm gonna hang with you in January!;)

OK, I'm back. You guys are great. Thanks so much on your kind words regarding my run. I really don't know where the burst of speed came from. The only thing I can think of is that my legs had a lot of energy since my LR was 8.5 miles on Saturday instead of 10-13. That's all I can figure.

Christa- Congratulations on your smokin' fast half marathon for fun. I'm so proud of you smashing your goal time, and taking time to thank all the volunteers. Sorry to hear your acid reflux was acting up again. So are you trying to save food from your fridge by eating it? BTW: Did you ever figure out if you could make it to the Flying Pig in May?

Bill- great job finishing the baby's room. How did your race go? Did I miss your report?

Jen- I'm so glad you got your 5 miles in outside. Doesn't it feel good to get back outside? Spring is coming! Hope everything is going well for you and your family. Oh now stop it, your 35 min on the TM is great. You know the only person you’re competing with is yourself. Great job Jen. I’m sure you could outcrunch me. I really should work on my core.

Mel- Congrats on running an entire 5K. That's awesome!!! WTG! Nice pace too. Mel you can definitely do the full. If I can do it, you can do it. You’ll have lots of people to support you in training and on the course.

TiffJ- Glad you’re having nice weather, and got to run outside. Good job on your 5 miler.

Jackie- Good for you for getting back out there and running 4 miles after having a week of not running. That’s so hard to get started again. Way to go!

Erica- Welcome! I’m so glad you decided to delurk and post. Welcome to the TEAM! Another NYer too! We have quite a few team members here in the Empire State. Are you running the New York marathon this year?

Jeanneg- Welcome to you too. Wow, that’s great that you’re already walking 12 miles in a 14:10 pace. That is awesome! You’ll be in great shape for the full marathon come January.

Ashley- Good to hear from you again. Great job on the 12 miler! That is awesome. I bet it felt good to get off your running wheel and get outdoors. Sounds like it’s getting warmer in your neck of the woods too! Good luck on the recommitting to good habits. We’re here for you!

Laurie- Great job on the 6 miles in 9:31 mpm pace. I think the nice weather must be inspiring everyone!

Leana- Nice run. Good luck with the 10K next weekend, and congratulations on the weight loss!

Mike/Goofyguy- That was an AWESOME half-marathon! Under an 8 mpm pace! Outstanding! Good luck with qualifying for Boston. I’ll be rooting for you. What is going to be your qualifier marathon in October? Chicago?

Kristi- Sorry to hear about your headache on Sunday. Are you feeling better today? Maybe you were dehydrated and needed some water… Don’t beat yourself up too much. It wasn’t a race, and you don’t need to run like it is everytime.

Stephanie- It sounds like you had a great weekend with the kids. They must be so proud of their marathon mom! Have fun with your running clinic tonight. The new picture in your signature is great.

Martha- Wow, 60 minutes outside! That is fantastic! Great job. In 2 months you have already tripled your long run time. You are doing great!

Andrew- Good luck dealing with everything at work. It sounds like you are absolutely swamped.

Monte- You sound pretty dedicated to me. Running your 5K in the snow. Oh, the Jacuzzi soak sounds very, very nice. Great job!

Terri- Hope you’re doing well. Good luck with the doctor’s appointment tomorrow.

Mike/Optimator- Nice smokin’ 8 mile run. Sounds like you had a little incentive there to finish up.

Judy- I hope your weekend was as good as it could have been. How’s Mist doing? Good job on getting your run in with everything going on.

Vic- Your post made me dust off my Star Wars toys this weekend. Uuum, I just keep them around for the kids you know.

Melissa- You better not be such a stranger this week. OK, so I was thinking of you when I posted/admitted I have a Star Wars toy collection. Should I spell nerd in all capital letters?

Scott- Good to see you back here. My hat’s off to you for doing those LRs on the TM.

Colleen- I have a way you can keep up with me at Disney next year. How about not running 13.1 mile they day before we see each other. Seriously, I’m not thinking you’re going to have that much trouble. I’ll probably end up hurting myself before then anyway… Do you know if you can make it to the Pig yet?

OK, I’ve been working on this post forever. Typing in little replies as I get a free second with my labwork. I should get back to work now.

WOW DAVE! You were FLYING! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
Thanks for the congrats...but seeing your GREAT TIMES, you so could have hung with me. WDW 08...you run with me!:hippie:
No flying pig:sad2: ! It seems that every time I get a paycheck, it goes to something breaking down in the house or the car!:confused3 OUT OF CONTROL!

I can say I've officially attained that coveted status, You Might Be a Redneck. (In my best Jeff Foxworthy voice) If, while dusting your NASCAR shrine, a diecast car rolls off of your desk and smashes your little toe, you might me a redneck.

The little toe on my left foot is a nice shade of black and blue. Don't think it's broken, but it hurts like a mutha.
Vic so sorry about the toe, but I was :rotfl: at your post!!! Love the HURTS LIKE A MUTHA! I thought Iwas the only one that said that...well, me and my crazy family!

I rode the road bike today to pick up the princess: princess: !:rotfl: Funny play on words!
Anywho...kept it at an easy pace and did 10 miles. Ave pace was 14 mph and I wore my WISH shirt so all the drivers could see me! All the parents at school were looking at me like I was crazy in my bike shorts, and all the COOL bike clothes I was wearing!

Melissa- You better not be such a stranger this week. OK, so I was thinking of you when I posted/admitted I have a Star Wars toy collection. Should I spell nerd in all capital letters?
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Dave - that is great!!!

Christa - anyone on a bike looks cool!!!!

Went orienteering for a couple of hours. It was definitely a low intensity workout as I took my coffee w/ me for the 1st hour!!! The second hour, I got lost (great since I'm actually making the map for our next meet!) and then I found a "hoot flute" which is apperantly an owl call for turkey hunters (i had to ask my dad why one would call a turkey w/ an owl call and he was able to tellme!)

First of all---GO DAVE!!!! That pace is awesome!!!

This is just a quick drive by for me, not sure I will be able to keep up with the posts this week! I only did 2 miles today, finished in 19:20....I was going to do 4 but felt a bit tired from yesterday's LR, and I have an ice hockey game tonight.

Going to Baltimore for a conference this week and gotta pack, so not really much time to catch up with everyone. I will try to later on!

Leana: WAY TO GO on the weight loss! Keep it up!

Big Vic: OUCH!! and HAHAHAHA!! That's something I'd do. I once fell in a parking lot and gashed my knee bad enough to need stitches. And all I was doing was WALKING!

Dave: woo-hoo :thumbsup2 Doesn't running outside make a big difference?

Just a light cardio day to loosen up the legs after yesterday's run. The good news is that my hip did not hurt the rest of the day and has continued to feel good today. That's got to be progress. Tomorrow will be speed work.

Have a great day everyone!!

Must be a high speed day! I did my little 30 min (early in training for Minnie). Sticking with R4/W1 for now and did 2.62 miles in 30:03...that's an 11:28 pace! And it's pretty hot today...80 degrees. Like Leana said, that's 10 sec per mile faster than I did on Sat running straight through in cooler temps

:welcome: Jeanne! Not just anywhere can you be a bootylicious athlete :woohoo:

:welcome: Erica! Glad you've decided to join us 'officially'.

Dave...you rock, dude! Great pace!

Vic...sorry to hear about the toe...maybe a less heavy collectible? ;)

Jen...congrats on your lunchtime TM! Those balance ball exercises look pretty cool...may have to drag mine out of purgatory in the garage. I actually bought it for delivery when I was pregnant with DD4.

GoofyMike...great race report and fabulous pace! Sounds like a killer course!

Judy...when I was a kid, HM was closed a LOT, which made me crazy 'cause it's always been my favorite (we're those obnoxious people that recite the opening monologue along with the Ghost Host :cool2: )

Scott...welcome back! High mileage on the TM is cruel and unusual punishment ;)

DD14 and I are officially in Minnie training, though not sure if she'll continue after today's run. We got her new shoes, went out today to try them out. Put on sunscreen because neither of us have skin designed for this climate. She outpaced me to the first mile then turned around...I didn't see her again til I got home. Found her in tears on the couch...apparently had some bad allergic reaction to the sunscreen  She's got really sensitive skin and has used this one before but something sure reacted today. Eyes and ears swelled, back and stomach pain...bad stuff. She's feeling much better now...just covered with spots. I called the allergist so looks like we'll need to get in there and see if there's anything to do about her sensitive skin. I think we'll start running after dinner on the weekdays...won't need sunscreen.

Vic - Great job on the 5K...you'll get a sub 30 before you know it!:thumbsup2
Bill - Sounds like a fun race...gives a whole new meaning to the gazelle and lion quote.
Mike - The Pi Run...:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: Maybe they can make the race bibs with binary numbers.
Christa - Wow....I mean WOW! Awesome job on your time!:woohoo:
Mel - Great RUN!
Ashley- Great run and thankfully your water bottle didn't get picked up by the postman!
A big WELCOME to Erica and Jeanneg! You'll find motivation and inspiration to do some perspiration here at the WISH!:welcome:
Goofyguy Mike - Great job on your half, and all of us are pulling for you to get your BQ!
Mike - Swifty Skywalker is what we should be calling you!:woohoo:
Kristi - Hope that headache was an isolated event...I just know you'll get back at it!
Leana - Great job on the weight loss....keep up the hard work!:thumbsup2
Judy - The surgical green scrubs we wear were looking ALOT like lime green. DisWithdrawl...don't let it happen to someone you love!

Training note:
We have had great weather here all weekend (although I was at work for it ) but today was just the same...sunny and high of 65.:yay:
I got out on my beloved bike path and ran over three miles (I'm guessing maybe 3.2) but I timed my three miles just out of curiosities sake. I thought the weather would be cool enough to wear my shorts with a coolmax LS tee, but I was actually a little too warm (NOT A COMPLAINT) so when I saw 31:48 for my three mile time I thought I might have been a little heat exhausted and was seeing things....but no, 31:48 for three miles.

I hope the nice weather holds out for my 5K on Saturday.

Happy Training!

Jackie

It's good to know another soccer (Calcio) fanatic is around here. When you are in the UK again (or elsewhere in Europe) you and DH must get in to see a high level match. The quality of the play is great, and the atmosphere is unlike anything you've ever seen in the U.S. Singing the team songs, banging drums, jumping up and down, roaring, for the entire 90 minutes In September Martha and I were in Amsterdam to watch Ajax play, and it was soooo cool. I did find out today that Lesley and I have 2 tickets for Saturday's match between Tottenham and Watford City, so right now my personal approval ratings among 22 year old daughters is well above 100%.

Mike and Christa

I think we've all done the "get in your training in odd circumstances" gig. My personal favorite was volunteering to run the line in a youth soccer match so I could run up and down for the entire game. The parents wondered who the lunatic was who beat the ball up, then back, then up , then back. We may look dumb, but I know we don't care in the least.

Vic

Be glad that didn't happen before the race. I strongly recommend you stay away from all cleaning and dusting activities for say, 12 weeks before the race, just to be sure. Throw in mowing the lawn as well. Please feel free to share my advice with your lovely spouse.

Judy

Unfortunately you have identified one of my least endearing flaws. My personal memory chips are filled with so much meaningless information that I do dumb stuff like forget my mother's birthday.

Dave

So your shins have improved to the point of running those great times. Are you pain free or at least much less pained?

Mel

I am on flovent, albuterol, and prednisone. Basically a walking pharmaceutical supply store. The good part is this is the best I've felt in 1 month. I actually was able to lift hard and bike yesterday. I'm sore as heck, but good sore. Tomorrow I hope to get in an easy run, inside, not as good as all of you who got out, but way better than sitting still and feeling grumpy.

I also have a new plan. If I can get into the field for the Marine Corps Marathon in October I'll get up and run the darn thing. I've heard it's a really nice event, and I can have a nice weekend and call it a training run for January 13, 2008. Is anyone else trying to get into the Marine Corp and we can meet for dinner?

And, this time I registered for the Disney Marathon by mail and a check instead of on line. Will they send my any type of confirmation before the mass e-mails come out in the early fall?

Best to all.

Craig

Steph - The idea of your "speeding up your 3 miles" scares me!

Dave - WHOA!

Judy - We arrive at WDW the day after HM closes. DD was finally going to conquer her fears and ride it with her eyes open, but alas, not this summer!
And you're always with me when I'm running outside - the only difference is that you're the only one on the TM, but everyone is in my head when I'm outside!

Did arm workout this morning. Can't decide whether to try the TM in the AM or try to squeeze in an outside run tomorrow night before a meeting at the school. Will probably try for the AM, even though it's so supposed to be perfect weather tomorrow.

Jackie

just a quick post...

Mel - DD4 is highly allergic to sunscreen. The only stuff we can use is the super sensitive skin baby formula. I think it is Water Babies. And we have to be very careful on the face. All other sunscreens have her puffed out with drippy eyes. It's so sad. Good luck to your DD.

Leana - I'm on the random drawing list for the Nike 1/2 marathon in Oct. Reg. filled up in a day, so they added some spots that will be filled through random drawing the beginning of April. Hoping for a spot for me and my niece.

Mel - I hope DD is feeling better.

Dave - you've turned into a speed demon! The Kenyans better watch out! :teeth:

I've convinced a couple of friends to do the 5K in January. Does that fill up ahead of time or can they register for that at the Expo?

I tell everyone it's an innocent hobby gone terribly wrong. :rotfl:

Mutha was a common used word during my military days. Of course it was used in a variety of contexts. :lmao:

I won't tell you about twisting my ankle in the front yard after stepping over a limb. You had to be there.

Maybe ones without wheels. :rotfl:

Craig--DH and I registered via snail mail as well, and we both received post cards about a month or so after sending the registrations out confirming that we were entered into the WDW Marathon.

Mel--WTG on your run!:cool1: Sorry to hear about your DD and the sunscreen. Hope you can find an alternative for her.

Well, Dave, since you "laid down the gauntlet" so to speak--I went out to smoke my 3 miles tonight! 3.11 miles in 25:44!!!:cool1: :cool1: And it was the warmest it's been all year so far--had to be almost 80 tonight at the start.
Splits
Mile 1: 8:03
Mile 2: 7:53:banana:
Mile 3: 8:54 Started to feel the heat
last .11: 0:52

Well, time to hit the showers and then to bed. DH is leaving town tomorrow for a couple of days, so I need all my strength to entertain the kiddos!

Quick drive by for me. We got out tonight to do a W1.5/R1.5 for the first time - and I thought I was going to DIE! Well, that may be an exaggeration, but it certainly pushed me more than I'm used to.

We went 3.18 miles in 44:33. Obviously I'm not anywhere near catching any of you speedy folks!

Sorry I haven't kept up the past week or so. My Mom decided she was going to move to the Austin area. Total amount of time between her decision to move (from CA)? About two and a half weeks.

Lots of crazy stress being thrown all over the place!

She should arrive tomorrow or Wednesday, and then we'll help her move in, and THEN I should have some more time to stay in touch!
