Wk of June 3--WISH Walking/Running Club

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I had my track speedwork session yesterday after work. I did a mile warmup, and then 3 miles alternating a fast lap with a slow recovery lap. Overall I did 4.32 miles in 36:05 min for 8:21 mpm pace. Whew, I was tired after that one.

It's a busy week for me at work this week. I'm getting ready for a presentation I have for a meeting next week. I'll be gone all week in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the meeting. I'm kind of excited to go and see Rio, but I hate that my family can't come with me. It's no fun travelling alone, and I really hate leaving DW all by herself with the princesses princess: princess:. It's going to be a hard week for DW.

OK, I'm off to try to catch up with the thread.

Good Morning TEAM:

Lily- I forgot to say that I loved that picture of you and DH at Niagara Falls. Looks like you had a beautiful day.

Christa- Did the rest of your shows over the weekend go well? Sounds like you had a fun song to sing.

Kevin- Uuugh, getting sick in the neighbor's yard at the beginning of a LR sounds awful. It does sound like the vitamins could be the culprit. I took one before a LR once and thought I was going to lose it around 7 miles. Nice job on your Sunday and Monday runs.

Leana- WTG on your 7 miler! If your legs are feeling OK, I'd say it's OK to do a run after your LR. Just make sure you get your rest day in.

Andrew- Good job on your 7 miler too. Have fun fishing, and good luck with your interview.

Krista- I agree with what others have said. If you're not planning on breaking any speed records at WDW, why not try to walk it. I bet you'd have a great time with our walkers. Here's hoping your IT band holds up. How does Hines like "Sweatin' to the Oldies"? A family of rabbits!!! :lmao: :lmao: Too funny! My mom was 1 of 15 brothers and sisters. There was a 30 year age difference between all the kids. Can you believe it? Family reunions were something... Did you make it to the gym this morning?

Hello Sticky Steve

Colleen- Your husband ran 1:47 for the half marathon!!! Whew, I missed that one. My hat's off to him. Didn't he just get back from China??? I hope you're achilles is feeling better. And congrats on DD10's b-day, and congrats to you for being so healthy, running marathons, etc.

Jackie- Nice job on your 4 miler. :thumbsup2 Good for you for getting out in the heat and humidity. So would your DD16 babysit up here in Rochester so the princesses princess: princess: don't miss school. That's what I need to find. Someone to watch the girls up here.

Hello Carrie- Hope things are going well for you in Michigan. My BIL who's in Ann Arbor ran the Dexter to Ann Arbor half marathon last weekend. He wants me to come out to run the CRIM 10 miler with him in August. I think I just might do that.

Meghan- Welcome back. This group will keep you excited about finishing the 1/2 marathon. Just think about the Donald medal. And you're right, it needs to be fun for you, or you won't do it. Have fun!

Hello Cam- I was just thinking about you. Glad to see you posting. Hope Howard's doing well. You should be OK with the MfM plan. You've been training regularly for a while now. Oh no, shin splints!!! Ice, ice baby! I hope you're feeling better. And what do you mean you're training alone? Hellooooo... who are we??? It's funny, someone said to me once they were impressed that I completed training for a marathon all by myself. I wanted to say, I wasn't alone at all. I had this whole team supporting me.

Hi Judy- are you on the TM?

OK, sorry if I missed anyone. I'm sure I'll be back later.

Good morning WISH friends.

"YARC" Random thought for the day: If you unscrewed your belly button would your butt fall off?

Lustergirl welcome to our world. Be warned you may never be the same again.

Cam good luck with your training plan. What race is CDC?

SkyWalker Dave, you are getting fast. I wish all the races were gradual down hill like the last part of the Flying Pig.

Everyone have a great day, time to wake the Queen for our morning training walk.

Dave:hippie: "YARC"

I am coming out of lurking to post my progress. I still have not been cleared to start any running but am in week 2 of TNT training for the Nike Women's Marathon on Oct 21. All 3 of us have committed to TNT to do this race. Hopefully, we can raise the necessary funds to do so. Anyone wishing to donate to TNT on our behalf, please PM me.

Week 1 of training:
5/28 3 mile walk at Green Lakes w/Lynne 54 min
5/29 3 mile walk at Erie Canal 51 min (after PT)
5/31 3 mile walK at Green Lakes 52 min (after PT)
6/2 5 mile walk at Green Lakes w/Erin 91 min
6/3 15 min of core on the ball (shoulder did not like push ups or weights)

Week 2:
6/4 3 miles in the neighborhood w/Erin 54 min
This weekend is the first group training session. I hope by having others to train with, my pace will improve..

I find it easier to do my walks at Erie Canal because it is dirt and not canted. I had to have Erin slow down last night because my legs were hurting. Erin is really planning on running the race but kept me company last night for the first 2 miles as her back was bothering her. She has been doing her runs in the neighborhood after getting home from work at 10:30 PM. She is currently working 2 jobs and trying to train.

Lynne is training hard for Lake Placid. She will do the 6 miles with me on Sat and then has a 8 hr training scheduled for Sunday. I may pace her on the run segment depending on where she does it.

My plan is to do the marathon on Oct 21, the TOT on Oct 27 and the Mickey in Jan. I hope to be able to start training with walk/run intervals at some point after DR clearance. I go back to see her on the 13th.

Have a great training day.

Does anybody want a dog? I'll sell him to ya for cheap! I so wanted to beat Hines last night, he's lucky I love him so much! I got only got about 2 hours of solid sleep last night and then a few minutes here and there. He usually sleeps with Stephen and I in our bed (I know, I know) and it's never a problem. He jumps up there when we go upstairs, gets right in the middle and falls asleep and doesn't move until the next morning and then we sometimes have to wake him to get him in his crate so we can go to work. I don't know if he doesn't feel good or what, but he was up and down, up and down, up and down all night long pacing around the bedroom. Normally it wouldn't be a big deal, but I had a basket of laundry and I was concerned that he would dig the socks out and eat them. Because, you know he does those kinds of things. After getting up several times, trying to get him back on the bed, I eventually put him in his crate where he cried and banged on the door all night long. Stephen had to get up at 3:30 because he is flying to Boston today, so I got Hines out of the crate and tried to get him to sleep on the bed again. It was more of the same, up, down, up, down, pacing around. Back into the crate he went. He finally settled down at 4:30. Needless to say, I will be going to the gym on my way home and then directly to bed!!

Dave--Rio de Janeiro?? Color me jealous! Have a great time! And :wizard: for DW and the princess: 's.

Jackie--Have a wonderful time in WDW!!! Eat a Mickey Mouse rice krispy treat for me. And a kringla. And a Dole Whip. ;)

Kathy--Have fun training for the Nike Women's marathon! I'd rather be doing that than Columbus, but I do not envy the hills you will have to tackle! Oh, and your race schedule is identical to mine--Columbus marathon 10/21, ToT 10/27, and maybe WDW marathon 1/13. Tell Lynne good luck in Lake Placid and congrats again on FL 70.3!

Cam--Sorry about your stonker run!!! But at least you got out there and did it! And I agree with Dave, what are we? Chopped liver?????? ;)

Lily--Sorry that your foot is hurting!!! Hope it feels better soon! Sweating to the Oldies WAS fun last night, and a nice change of pace! I really like the toning section he has on there, I think I'm going to do that section on my own. There is a series of different crunches that work the upper and lower ab's, the butt, and the oblique's.

Colleen--Happy Birthday to your son!!! Did you do a little dance around your DH to rub it in as to how limber you are after the half? I would have!! ;)

Judy--

Happy training everyone!!!

Morning teammates! Yoga/pilates last night was good. But in hindsight, if I'm gonna do pilates I should put weight training off until another day. After doing both yesterday, I'm pretty sore today. but it's a good sore, not injury sore. Today is a rest day for me. I'm babysitting for a while and then might take the kiddos to the pool. I was really disappointed to find out that there isn't any scheduled adult lap swim time at our community pool. But a little birdie told me yesterday that they will allow you to swim laps during the water aerobics classes. Might have to try that out this week as well.

DaveWW--CDC is the Chicago Distance Classic--a half marathon put on by John Bingham. And yes, MfM is marathoning for Mortals. And love the thought of the day!:lmao:

Daveskywalker--Wow, Rio!!! Have as much fun as you can w/o the fam being with you.

Cam--great to hear from you. Sorry about the stonker and the shin splints. I'm sure things will get better from here on out. And no matter what, you'll have plenty of WISHers to get you to CDC!

Okay, my brain has turned to mush and I can't remember what else I was going to say. Doesn't bode well for the day when by 8 my brain is already mushy! Have a great Tuesday all!

Krista- Uuugh, sounds like a long night with Hines. Maybe he's getting you ready for the first 6 weeks of babyhood. Maybe Hines sensed that Steve was getting ready to go away. So I just sent Steve a PM about renting DVC points for marathon weekend. I'm starting to think that I should make a reservation to at least hold a room if I decide to go for the marathon. I can always cancel the reservation, right? And, I am a little excited about going to Rio. The meeting hotel is right on Copacabana Beach, but I do wish the family was going with me too. No fun seeing all the sights and having no one to share it with.

Cam what is the CDC you are training for? Is MFM, marathoning for mortals?

Dave:hippie:

Yes, Dave -- CDC is the Chicago Distance Classic on August 12. It is a John Bingham race and I desperately want the penguin medal. But I also want to do my best 1/2 marathon time ever. I feel like I have been lax, not so much in working out, but in sticking to a structured training plan. AND I really want to force myself to improve, rather than to sit comfortably where I've been since my first half in January 2006. And, yes, MfM is Marathoning for Mortals. I followed John's plan to walk the half and walk the full; so now I want to try to train for a walk/run, even though right now the times for walk/run aren't significantly better than walk. :confused3

Cam - I'm so excited! We are following the same plan for the CDC! I'm also shooting for w3/r2, but would be happy with w3/r1.
Cool, Meghan! I think there may be several of us doing those intervals, though how fast they are will differ. I am not sure what your times look like, but we should powwow as it gets closer and figure out whether our pacing looks close and we can share the experience!

One last thing, 10 years ago tonight I was in labour with my first little bundle of joy! DS10 was born June 5, 1997 at 12:15 a.m.:cloud9: I could never have imagined that 10 years later I would be running marathons!:dance3:

Colleen - -Happy birthday to DS!!!! :cake: And congrats to DH!! Yeah, I know all about naturally athletic spouses and how annoying that can be! Good thing we love them (and are willing to share all the great advice we get here, right?) ;)

Oh, believe me -- I have no illusion that I am not alone in this endeavor! It is just lonely at the gym without any of my WISH friends there. :sad1: I constantly think about all of you when I am training. It is so nice to know that I am not experiencing anything that someone else hasn't been through!

Have a great time in Rio deJaneiro, Dave! I am sorry DW and your princesses can't go with you, but you'll have to take lots of pix to share with them and us!

Krista -- Poor Hines! He must not have been feeling well. Either that or someone snuck him some sugar! :yay: (coudln't find a "hyper doggie" smilie!) Any chance he was gnawing on Stephen's coke-soaked clothes? :lmao: I know how he loves socks! :rotfl2:

Lily -- I've finally gone back to read earlier posts. I love the picture of you and Ted at NF!! You both look great, but you look WOW!!!!! You must be so proud of yourself, sweetie! :woohoo: BTW, I've decided that my Tuesday night cross-training sessions are going to be those fabulous workout DVDs you recommended! :cloud9:

Okay, it is another busy day at work and I have to get out of here relatively early to clean my messy house before DMIL arrives tomorrow for a week. Andy's 8th grade graduation is Sunday and we are having a party, so there is lots to be done. I am definitely going to stick to the training, though!

Kathy - Best of luck training for the Nike Women's Marathon!! I'll be there as well, running the half. I registered on my own though, I'm not running with TNT. So I may see you there....and at ToT....and at the WDW Marathon weekend!

Krista - Hines for 2 cats? Yeah, I've wanted to kill my pets lately too.

SkyDAve - Crim? Really? Hmmmm....We talked about that at one time. I think that falls in our dead training zone btwn CDC adn full training. BTW, if you make a regular ressie, you can always canel. If you rent points, cancel is a little more complicated.

Cam - :grouphug: I'm worried about those shin splints. DOn't popush too hard. However, don't let one stonker get you down either! You know better than that! :goodvibes

WWDave - CDC = Chicago Distance Classic (8/12), you were right on MfM

Kathy - SO good to see you! We miss you (and Lynne and Erin)! Good to hear you'llbe able to start again soon! No more surgeries, OK?

Morning all!

Krista-I'll trade your dog for my dog. We used to block one area of the house off for him to sleep at night. Well he started banging against the board we had to keep him in and that was the end of that, now he get's the run of the first floor. We also have to announce ourselves to him when we get home so he stops barking. He'll hear me at the door and start barking. Like an idiot I have to stand outside as I unlock the door and say, "Keg, it's me." Then he stops. We have an odd dog.

So I braved the rain yesterday, okay it was drizzle by the time I got out, and did my run yesterday. I did 1.5 miles in 14:40. I was supposed to do 2 miles but I had a little issue with it. I ran at my boyfriend's house which is in a town I hadn't really spent time in till I met him. I THOUGHT I knew where I was going when I took a turn onto a street. Turns out I didn't or that it looks different when you aren't in the car. Well paranoia sets in and I spent half the time looking over my shoulder for strange people. lol By the time I found my way back to where I knew I just decided to head home. But it was a good run and I felt good after, almost no walking and the ankle pain is almost gone.

Megan

Megan - It's amazing how different familiar streets look at 5 mph than at 45 mph! I hear you!

Weather note: OK, so it's 48 right now. Supposed to hit 90 Thursday. Anyone wonder why I can't adjust to heat??? :faint:

Skimming again so I may get things wrong!;)

Krista - GIRL! Getting preg may or may not take a long time....I got preg the 1st tri (:lmao: ) with my princess: princess: ....I know TMI...but thought Krista needed this warning!:rolleyes1

I am slack...I haven't done anything training wise sense Friday's 14 miler. Unless you count my shows, which I don't. I did look on SparkPeople to see the amount of cals I burnt i 1 show....350+ ....Maybe I should count the shows as xtraining! But anyway, Must get out today.:sad2:

MSWDave - Thanks for asking about the shows...they all went great! This show runs for the month of June on the weekends.....1 show on Friday nights and 2 shows on Saturday! WTG on your runs! You are doing so great...WOW I remember when you 1st started!

Megan - WTG on the run! I understand how different everything looks! I can find my way downtown (where I run) while running...but driving...not so much! I am getting better though!

Meghan - Glad you are back!

WWDave - Don't know about the belly button question:confused3 :lmao: :confused3 If your butt falls off, do your legs fall off too?:rolleyes1

good morning everyone!! I went to exercise last nite after work- did the circui for 20 minutes then hit the treadmill for another 20 minutes. Will walk today at lunch if it isn't raining out.

Hi all:

Nothing to report on the training/walking front for yesterday or today yet. The back has been acting up-this is the result of, among other things, arthritis in the back, a couple of disc issues and everything getting thrown out of whack with the hip surgeries (especially not having one for several months while fighting the infection). I'm pretty sure my current size doesn't help either (working on changing it). Several months ago, it was a constant problem where I always looked like a derivative symbol or question mark. Thanks to lots of PT (which, other than a couple sessions, I have used up for the year already (plus a fair number of co-pay onlys that my therapist fronted so progress could continue)), the back only gets really bad on occassion now. I guess that will teach me to try and be nice and help with the laundry.

Andrew-Thanks for the hydration/slug advice. I was thinking of carrying light beer, but after the above Coke fiasco, I wouldn't want to risk it. If I spilled beer all over, that would be alcohol abuse, right?

WWDave-Not sure about the belly button thing, but I always wondered why God put a big drippy thing upside down over our mouths. Then again, if our noses were the other way, we might drown in the rain.

Speaking of training and rain (we were, weren't we), do running shoes recover OK from a rain workout or do people use special rain shoes (like an older pair). As you all know, I am a novice but figure I will try to get my walks in in any weather if I am going to succeed. Of course, right now both pairs of my running shoes are pretty new.

neBill - Your runnign shoes will recover. Put them out in teh sunshine. Or, you can throw them in the dryer on low. If tehy're nasty, you may want to, throw tehm in teh washer then the dryer.

Greetings fellow WISH and YARC Team members -

I have pictures today, to make up for this morning's lack of training....

Here I am finishing the South Salem memorial Day 5K....

And here is my Prince Charming finishing up the 10K...

Thank you all for your kind words about Logic. It was two really hard days in a row. She was the greatest horse ever and I miss her every single day. :guilty:

Cam - Wait. Why are you training alone? :confused3 Isn't Howard doing CDC? Did I miss something???? When Charlie and I come down for the weekend, I'll train with you. OK, I'll TRY to keep up.

Kevin - Oh man, sorry to hear you were so sick. And in public too. Sometimes if I take a vitamin with iron on an empty stomach I get really sick.

Oh Lilly - I hope your toe is OK. Maybe he can x-ray it and see what's going on in there. :wizard:

Colleen - Did your DH see this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJKIvh46S_c He might really appreciate it now.

Dave - Rio? I just finished watching "Blame It on Rio". Ever see that silly movie from way back in the 80's? Geez. Umm, no, thank you for asking but I was not on the TM today. When you posted at 6:30 this morning I was already outside in the barn taking care of my girls. I was a lazy slug this morning and didn't get up in time to train. Wait! Wait! Did I just read you were making reservations for January!??!! YAY!! :yay:

WWDave - Oh, are we going for a walk? :lmao: You know, I was thinking that I am wearing the wrong YARC crown. I should be the Queen, not the President. Don't you think? :snooty: I do want to give you credit for motivating me to at least get out the yoga DVD this morning and watch it while I sat on the couch like Jabba The Hut and had my coffee. I must confess, it was terribly depressing. It was a 30-something woman demonstrating the poses and she had an absolutely perfect body. She was so fit and sculpted. I watched it thinking "OK, THAT ain't gonna happen." It was amazing the stretches she did. Well, maybe I can try a couple of poses every day until I get them right, then try a few more. Alright, I'll give it a shot. However, I do think I'm a little too "Western" to listen to her chatter so once I learn the poses I think I'll turn off the volume. I have no idea whatsoever how to "soften my eyes" and "feel the space in my abdomen". As far as I know I have no space in my abdomen. And therein lies the rub.

Krista - Ohh poor Hines. Something must have been wrong. Let us know how he is tonight. I hope he's OK. Oh and sorry about the no sleeping for you thing. Maybe that was practice for the baby you'll have soon. :)

This reminded me to share a story demonstrating why Howard says Cali is "dumb as a stump" (a description I protest vigorously, but . . . ). Cali barks ferociously when the garage door opens. Now, mind you, anyone coming in through the garage is family or close friend. Why she hasn't figured that out yet, I'm just not sure. :confused3 But I always thank her for endeavoring to keep us safe and then remind her NOT to bark at the garage door. :rotfl2:

Kathy & Leana - I'll be in SF, too. My niece and I are doing the 1/2. She'll be running. I'll be walking (don't think I'll do much running in this race as I haven't been cleared to start training yet, either. Just want to ge the steps in. And the Tiffany necklace:goodvibes )

Cam - sorry about he stonker. Congrats to Andrew on his graduation!

Judy - I missed the post about Logic, but from reading others' repsonses it didn't sound good. Sending :wizard: your way.

See, I miss a couple weeks of these posts and I feel out of the loop. What does YARC mean?

Terri

Okay, Judy, you had me :lmao: about the yoga video. At least you were watching it in the privacy of your home. I can't even tell you how hard it was to keep a straight face the first time I went to a Yoga/Pilates class. I am WAYYYY too self-conscious to be doing some of that stuff in public. And way too modest to watch others doing some of that stuff in public!!

Christa, my darling, the number of calories you burn doing a show is more than many of us burn during an hour of some intense activity that we'd LIKE to call XT. So, yes! I'd definitely consider all of that XT!

Oh, and Judy, you didn't miss anything. I just usually end up at the gym alone and Howard goes at some other time, convenient to him. Seems running late night or in the intense heat is not a disincentive to him if he wants to spend daylight hours gardening, mowing the lawn, etc. etc. :confused3 Oh, and great pix, you runner, you! :yay: :woohoo:

Megan-- great job getting out in the rain!

lustergirl -- Congrats on finding the motivation and energy to get to the gym after work. I am not sure who I aspire to be - the person with discipline and energy to work out in the morning? Or the person with discipline and energy to go at the end of a long work day?

Bill -- I am so glad you are getting out there and walking when you can and that you no longer look like a question mark. But I hope your back gets fully better soon. :goodvibes

Kathy -- Good luck with your training for the Nike race! We all missed you and Lynne and Erin at Minnie weekend this year. Hope all is well for all of you. Is Lynne off to her rotation in Hawaii soon? Or has she already been and come back?
