Wk of June 3--WISH Walking/Running Club

Stephanie-If there's lightening or thunder I think my bf would tie me down so I wouldn't leave the house. As it is he'll think I"m crazy for considering running in the rain. So no worries on that front. Megan

Megan...Be very careful saying things about your bf tying you down. There are some people on these boards who will never let you forget you said that. :rolleyes1

Not that I am thinking of anyone in particular..... :rolleyes1

:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

hi everyone!! I am the new kid on the block. I would like ot eventually register for the disney half marathon walking it to pride swelling in my heart. Right now I started exercising and dieting again- lost 4 pounds since last tuesday. I already walk alot so that will help in my training. What types of marathons are offered at disney anyways? I know there is one coming up in January, any others?? I think that I have some more weight to lose before even considering walking in a marathon. I had to cancel my september disney trip because of financial reasons and walking in a disney marathon will give me an excuse to go next year- ha!!

Megan--Oooo, I love MythBusters!!! The pirate one that was on the other night was pretty cool. And oh, yes, EVERY THING you say can and will be used against you at some point!! You gotta love this group!! :upsidedow

Lustergirl-- WELCOME!!:cheer2: :cheer2: The only definite marathon in WDW is in January and unfortunately, the half is full. There is a rumor going around that there will be a princess half marathon in the spring, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Is walking on a treadmill good training for the marathon?? Thanks everyone for the encouragement.

Treadmills are good when you can't be outside, but you do need to do some walking outside on pavement ot get sued to the feel of that beforehand.

Well I guess I'm in luck because I always walk outside and use the treadmill at exercise.

Could that be considered XT????:lmao: :thumbsup2

Judy-I'm just going to hope some excitement springs up here and my comment will be forgotten in no time!

Krista-My secret that I'll let you all in on is that I"m a Discovery Channel geek! I have a deep love for Deadliest Catch and half the men on the show. I missed the Pirates Myth Busters but I'm sure I"ll catch the rerun. The shark one is pretty cool too.

Glad to know the club here is like a court of law...anything I say can and will be used against me.

This is going to lead to this conversation going down hill fast but on the site I was using to log workouts it had sex listed as a possible workout. I've always been curious if people actually logged that for the public to see. My friend and I had a good laugh over it. I guess you could pretty much consider anything xt if sex counts.

Well I guess I'm in luck because I always walk outside and use the treadmill at exercise.

I started my training for the Minnie on a TM and was really disappointed with my times. Once I got out on the roads my pace picked up alot. I find it easier to jog on the TM but to walk fast on the roads....does that make any sense???

DH is a huge discovery channel person as well, I don't watch it as much but there is alot of interesting things on it. I did see the deadly catch thing.....WOW.....what a tough job.

Had an awesome 8 mile LSD this morning! The sun was shinning, lower humidity, a nice cool breeze blowing, and WWDave by my side. Can't get much better than that!

Erica

Hi Erica we must have posted at teh same time.

Glad to hear you and Dave had a great run today.

It can be done! I used my TM for 99.9% of my training for the full this past January. I had no excuses for not walking with the TM staring me in the face:lmao: :lmao: I admit to being a wimp - it is either too hot, too cold, too rainy, too windy, too dark, too buggy, don't want to leave my pups alone, etc.....I can come up with a million excuses for not walking outside!!

OMG I'm off the computer for the morning and all heck is going on. People getting tied up for recreational cross training. One of our regulars running down the road like a darn fool with a spewing coke can tied to his waist. I just read our moderators tag line. New people showing up wanting to join when they haven't even showed that they are "YARC" material!

I knew I was in the right place.

I have a question? We just got our first annual pass and there is the option of a dining discout called the Disney Dining Experience. Only one card is required for the 20% off on food and drink (including Booze). The question would I still need to get Erica her own card? Is there any possibility that the WISH girls would be wondering off by themselves in search of margirtas and such?

Dave:hippie:

I've been MIA for awhile. May was really busy and just got back from WDW on Friday. Despite not posting I have been still training. I have been doing my long walks on the rail trail alternating between 6, 8 and 10 mile once a week. Also doing 2-3, 4 mile walks between the LW. We stayed at OKW and since the golf course is closed I was able to do 3 walks on the golf cart paths. It was great not having to deal with traffic. I have no big races coming up until Oct when I am doing the half in Baltimore and the ToT two weeks later, so just want to stay near a half training schedule for now.

I finally registered for the Mickey today. I saw that the Donald was nearly full before we went on vacation and decided to not register this way it only gave me one option when I came back. Next need to look for a hotel. I hope an AP rate comes up for a deluxe so I can stay at the Poly but until then will do a moderate.

Dave--- I have the DDE card the first time I got it you got a second card free but since they now charge for the second card, I just get one for me. I can't see paying the extra cost for the rare occassion DH and I wouldn't be together. We had the DDP this trip, but used the DDE for our bottle of wine with dinner.

WISH girls wandering off & drinking margaritas?
Oh, golly gee - that would never happen! ;) :rotfl: ;) :rotfl: ;)

Personally, I didn't feel I saved enough money with the dining card the year we had it (and it was cheaper & your spouse got a free card then). I think 99% of people here would disagree with me though.

I am so glad Chad doesn't hang out here.
He does not need to know about this tying up / xt thing! :lmao:

DId someone call this a "serious traning thread"????? (Mr. NEBill?) Yeah, we might have started off that way, you'd have to ask Lily or anyone who was pre-2005. However, I tdon't think we ever fully recovered from taper madness in 05. At least that sounds liek a good excuse to me. ;) The support is serious, but that's about it. ;)

Oh indeed.....

For the newer folks on this thread... Taper Madness prior to the 2006 races was something.... I think someone laced the water in our fuel belts with hallucenogens. Things have never been the same since.......:rotfl:

Quick checking in...

Monte-- Good luck with the chrio!

Steve-- Oh dear. FLAT coke. Not only do you lower your risk of "explosion," but that way your not burping through the remainder of your run. Although I admire you sticking with it... I would have turn around and gone home. :)

Lustergirl-- :welcome:

Saturday's 8 miler did NOT go as planned. A couple miles in a sort of got sick in the neighbors yard and had to go home. Now, ordinarily that would not have been TOO bad, but for the little old lady across the way who saw every horrid moment and kept on me about if I was OK, did she need to call 911 or could she give me a ride home. :guilty: The culprit, I'm sure, were the vitamins I took prior to running. I should know better....

Anyhow, I do have successful runs to report--
Sunday: 5K in 27:13, or 8:47/mile
Monday: 3.00 miles in 26:49, or 8:57/mile.

Needless to say, I feel MUCH better about my upcoming 5K with those times so long as I can keep up with my training. :thumbsup2

Happy training!
Kevin :earsboy:
