Wk of June 3--WISH Walking/Running Club

We returned last night from Toronto from my hockey tournament. My team played really well, we just played some really good teams. We won our first game and then lost the second and third games. It was a blast, and even though we lost two of our games, we still had a great time. Since my team lost, we didn't have any games yesterday, so DBF and I left Toronto early and decided to stop at Niagara Falls yesterday. Lily--I missed you by a day in Niagara Falls.

It has been quite some time since i have been to Niagara falls and it was great. The falls are beautiful!!!

I have decided to take the rest of the week off from running and start again this weekend, to start getting ready for the marathon in Jan. I do have another hockey game tomorrow night for a different team, so at least that will be some exercise. But the rest of the week is busy with end of the year dinners/awards ceremonies, etc.

I will try to keep up the rest of the week!!! Sorry, I don't have time to catch up with everyone individually. I hope everyone has an AWESOME week!!

I have a question? We just got our first annual pass and there is the option of a dining discout called the Disney Dining Experience. Only one card is required for the 20% off on food and drink (including Booze). The question would I still need to get Erica her own card? Is there any possibility that the WISH girls would be wondering off by themselves in search of margirtas and such?

Dave:hippie:

WWDave - I got the DDE card for my trip to Minnie this past May. We already managed to recoup the $65 we spent on it, plus we still have our ToT and marathon trips to go. We do eat TS once a day so it really went far, plus you do get money off your booze.... Drinks at the Rose and Crown??? :drinking1

Don't forget you can get 10% off at a few other eateries (Rainforest Cafe and the restaurants at DTD) with your AP, although they aren't on the DDE list.

Taper Maddness...what is this word "taper" you talk about?!?!?:confused3

Krista - You totally could WDW after an October Marathon...thats my story and I'm sticking to it!

Tying up each other and this crazy xtraining...DUDE!

Lustergirl - WELCOME! Do you know what your getting into?:rotfl:

Kevin - WTG on the runs! So sorry about getting sick in the neighbors yard!

Cannot remember who asked about running in the rain..:confused3 ..but here is my $.02:
If I am training for something...I will start the run unless it is thundering...pouring down rain...no biggie!

OK, quick opinion needed.....I did my LR of 7 mi yesterday (which stunk). Tomorrow is supposed to rain and I'm scheduled for 4.5 mi. Is it OK to run today, back to back, while the weather is nice out? My legs are feeling OK right now, I've just never run back to back, let along after a LR.

Steve - At least you didn't have a pack of mentos in your pocket,too....that would have been something to see. But great job on the 11.5 miles!
Monte - Good luck at the chiro and congrats on the new little grandbaby!
Poppinspal - Running in the rain...only twice and the second it started to thunder/lightning...really quickened my pace. But it was nice and cool, just don't wear cotton or it will be soaked and heavy.
Leana - Good job on the 7 miler...you say it stunk, but it sure trumps just blowing it off all together. Strong Work! BTW great pics from Banff.
Laurie - Congrats on the win, but sorry for the two losses that sent your team home. But you must have done a great job to get there, so :thumbsup2 !!
Kevin - Hopefully it was only the vitamins. But great times on your other runs. Would have been really ironic if this occured at the same house Steve had his Coca-Cola Fountain Show.
Erica - Great to hear about the awesome 8 miler, perfect in every way!
Lustergirl - Welcome to Team WISH!
Judy - for the bad week. Loss re-presents itself in unfortunate ways. Logic sounded like a great soul and an even better friend. Now try to behave despite the tying down discussions, oh wait, you are Madame President of the You Ain't Right Club....let 'er rip, you would'nt want WWDave, BigVic, or NEPatsFan try to impeach you on grounds of decency.
NePatsFan - Next time you go out for a walk, try taking a margarita with you...you'll have a refreshing drink in hand, and salt for the slug.
Jen - I asked about the Ft. Wilderness....we just bought out camper and are planning a trip to Ft. Wilderness next year. We tent camped there in Feb of 2001 and loved it! I figure it's a 21 hr drive from here so we'll break the drive down over 3 days.
Kristi - I promise not to pee on the slide when we go down. You worked at a Pepsi Factory? They would not have put me on the Diet Mt. Dew line, there might have been record losses for some unfathomable reason.:rolleyes1
Kim - It is quite alright to run with a Pina Colda, and if you follow the Garth Brooks plan, you'll have two...one for each hand!
Krista - Great job at the gym! A good laugh can constitute a nice ab workout, so you must have blasted them after Steve's story.
Mel - Chimera, Dances With Squirrels, Serenaded By Slimy Green Frogs, Lightning Mcqueen....I would have to make sure I am not part of proposed 9min/mile run, as an AED would not be enough, they would have to have Medic on standby with the whole crash cart.
WWDave - You'll rock at the National Senior Olympics at the end of the month! Virgin Vic? YAR!
Stephanie - We get some humidy here in Iowa every summer, but I can't imagine how bad it is down south....best of luck!
BigVic - Yard work is Definately XT!
Jackie - Great job with the running group!
Lily - Thanks for the pics, it sounds like you had a great trip!

Well, Training note:
I woke up nice and early this morning to get in my weekly LR of 7 miles as I had the rest of the day pretty much booked and did not want to risk it getting too hot. I finished pretty strong and had an easy rest of the day, even if I had several errands, calls to make, etc to do. I can see how people can get addicted to this. Day off tomorrow...gonna do some fishing in the morning with my brother and have an interview for a new postion in the afternoon. But the rest of the week is work, work ,work, then off for the weekend and the local Race for the Cure 5K.
Happy Training!:yay:

Okay, don't make fun of me, but I just finished up doing Richard Simmon's Sweating to the Oldies 2. :rotfl2: I was all set to go out and run, but literally as I was opening the door, it started thundering and lightening and pouring rain. It rained on and off for about 45 minutes total, and I could have gone out still, but I didn't want to take Hines out on the wet, muddy roads and have to deal with cleaning him up. On the other hand, I didn't want to crate him while I ran, as he's crated about 10.5 hours a day anyway. I didn't want to skip a workout today, so I decided to do my Sweating to the Oldies video--yes, I said VIDEO!! It actually is a pretty good workout, I was actually sweating pretty good and my heart rate was up to 132 bpm at one point. And yeah, Richard Simmons is kind of...different, but you can't argue what he has done to help get people back in shape over the past 20ish years. Tomorrow I'm going to try to get to the gym before work, which will require leaving my house around 5:30. We'll see...

Leana--I think if your legs feel okay right now, and as long as you run slow, maybe take walk breaks if you don't normally do that or if you do intervals normally, maybe do smaller run increments, you should be okay running back to back. If you feel any fatigue or pain, stop immediately.

Laurie--Sorry you didn't win the tourney, but glad you had such a good time! Enjoy your week off!

Kevin--In Stephen's defense, we thought the Coke was flat, I guess not flat enough! Neither Stephen nor I drink regular pop, so the Coke was in the refrigerator from last weekend when my sister was at our house. You would think a 2 liter that has been open for over would be pretty flat!! I hope you are feeling better today! Too funny with how concerned your neighbor is!

Colleen--Congrats on your half marathon!! How are you feeling today? I officially hate your husband! How fair is it that he ran a 1:47 with that little of training?? :sad2:

Christa--*IF* my IT band is okay after Columbus, I'll seriously think about running WDW! That means I'll have to sign up now and face a possible DNS. UGH!!!!

WW Dave--Stephen and I have had a DDE card for the past 2 years. I can't tell you how much we have saved with that little baby! Definitely buy it!! And don't worry about needing 2, we have just one and it's never been an issue.

But I'll sign up anyway, because as we all know, certain things take time and the chances of me being pregnant by January is probably not real high.

Don't assume that they always take time - I thought I'd have an April baby; DD's birthday is January 9th!

Paul - Glad to see you again! Oh I hope you can figure out a way to come in January. We need an official WISH babysitter.

I mentioned to DD16 that she could probably make a fortune if she's willing to babysit during marathon weekend, and she said no problem. We may have our official WISH babysitter. Cam - if you could actually get Jenn to come too, they'd make a great team!

Monte - Good luck with your heel. I really hope I don't know what the problem is!

Steve - That story may be the prize-winner for the year on this board! :lmao:

Megan - Our running group runs rain or shine. I'd never run in the rain until the first group run of the season when it was pouring rain, but they told us that races are held rain or shine, so we train unless there's lightning (or ice on the roads, I've heard!)

Lustergirl - :welcome: This group will get you ready to do any event, any distance!

Kevin - It's a good thing your little old lady wasn't there when Steve's bottle blew up!

Ran 4 miles tonight. Could have done it on the TM this morning, but I'm determined to get used to the heat and humidity. Took me 49:11 for an avg 12:18 pace - I was sure I was going to finish in 48:00, but I ran the loop counterclockwise the first time and clockwise the second time, and apparently it's not the same distance both ways :confused3 , cause when I got back to the finish mark I was only at 3.95. I think I lost the signal somewhere in the 3rd mile and got cheated.

Must go finish packing... 40 hours till we leave!

Jackie

Christa - Forgive me. I forgot that the evil queen has no need for taper! :worship:

Oh, Kevin - I'm so sorry. I really hope your weekend improved from there!!! At least teh woman did not give you an AA referral. :confused3 SOrry, hard to find a bright spot there. Scott sends his condolences too.

DH thinks we need to start a What Not to DO log after hearing our exploits. He'll add making sure your bottles are all well closed for 10 milers in 20 degree weather. He packes his own chute, Imean bottles now. :rolleyes1

Andrew - Way to go on 7 this am!

WWDave - Female WISHers on their own? No way! Drinking alcohol? Inconceivable! :lmao: Many WISHers have DDE cards too. I think you'll be fine with one. Thanks for thinking of us sweet innocent WISH girls, though. :D

Krista - You go the work out in. That's all that matters. I'm startin my 12-step prgram to begin XT again Wednesday. :rolleyes1

Laurie - Glad you had a fun weekend! SOrry tyyou didn't win them all!

Kim - The last 3 or 4 weeks of training are taper. You slowly reduce mileage. The week before the full it's 6 miles, wto 30 minute runs adn then a 20 min run. After maxing at 20 miles, your mind and body do weird things when deprived of running. Poor Judy came in right about Taper 2005. I think we scarred her for life. :sad2:

Nancy - COngrats on signing up adn bigger congrats for sticking with training!!!!

I've been MIA for quite awhile because I just got sucked into the pre-Indy 500 festivities during basically the entire month of May. I live about 2 hours from the speedway and was driving back and forth several times a week. (I know it's a sickness, but I can't help it.) This past weekend I went to the race in Milwaukee and now I have a long break before I go to another race, so it is time to rededicate myself to training. I've been sort of keeping up with it, but not consistently enough to really prep for the Chicago 1/2 in August.

I'm back here looking for motivation. I may not have posted regularly, but I faithfully read every post and just that lurking helped to keep me on track. This is a great group and I just realized tonight that spending all my time on the racing boards isn't getting me any closer to my goal of finishing a 1/2 marathon. I need to be here on a regular basis to stay excited about this.

I also realized tonight during my run/walk that I don't really like running all that much. I love walking, but the running isn't working as well for me. I decided that I should focus more on the walking and I am going to switch to a plan that emphasizes walking with some running, instead of the other way around. After Chicago, I might go back to the running with some walking program that I was following in order to get ready for WDW in January. I just can't believe that it took me this long to recognize that this is supposed to be fun and if walking is more fun for me, I should focus on being the best walker I can be!

Anyway, sorry for the long post! I am looking forward to catching up with everyone again and I might even post some updates now and then. :)

Meghan - Good to see you! Glad you found out what you love adn are modifying your plan to emphasize that! If you're nto havign fun, you won't do it!

Well, I opted for a FIRM aerobic and weight workout instead of the run which felt great. When I stepped out to take my dogs out I realized it was still super warm so I went for the indoor workout instead. Hopefully it won't be raining tomorrow afternoon, but if it is really bad I'll borrow my SIL's treadmill before we go see POTC tomorrow night. Treadmill.....blech..!!

Lily - What a beautiful pic of you guys at NF!
Megan - It is funny how these Disney races use up so much vacation time. I'm noticing the same thing here.
Carrie - Glad to hear you had a wickedly good weekend! Good luck getting used to the new lift.
Judy - :grouphug: for you for Logic.
Terri - How are your ankles doing?
Renee - WTG on your PR!!
Monte - Good luck at the chiro.
Stephanie - Good job on the 3 miles. How was yoga?
Stacey - Great training! Keep it up and I know your stamina will improve.
Steve - Sorry to hear about your Coca-Cola mishap..!!:rotfl:
lustergirl - WELCOME!!
Erice - Great job on your 8 miler!
Nancy - Congrats on registering for the Mickey! I'm hoping for AP rates too, but I already booked AKL regardless. If there is a time to go deluxe, I figure it is when I'm going GOOFY!!
Kevin - Oh, so sorry for your Saturday run! Glad to hear you have had some successful runs since then!
Laurie - Glad to hear you had a good time in TO!
Andrew - Glad to hear your 7 miler went well! I need to learn from your example and get going earlier..!!
Krista - Richard Simmons or not, at least you got your workout in! I haven't tried RS, but I do have a Carmen Electra striptease workout DVD. Not sure what my mom thought when she was helping me unpack my DVDs when I moved into my house....
Jackie - Good job getting your 4 miler in. Excited about your trip to WDW coming up??
Meghan - Welcome back! Sorry to hear you don't like the running, but good job on loving and making the committment to walk!

OK, time to eat dinner. Talk to everyone soon!

Don't assume that they always take time - I thought I'd have an April baby; DD's birthday is January 9th!

That's why I don't dare go off my BC until October 22. I come from a family of rabbits--my dad is 1 of 12 and I'm 1 of 6!!!

Carrie--You know, I NEVER drink at home, but for some reason, I have to have a drink or 2 while at WDW. Those Grand Marnier slushes are just too good to pass up!! :drinking1

Meghan--Congrats on your discovery!!! If you enjoy walking more than running, then by all means, don't run!! :cheer2:

Oh, man, I am in biggggg trouble (no, it doesnt' involve exploding coke or XT with ropes!) I decided I'd follow the MfM walk/run the half plan for CDC and only just got around to putting the plan on a calendar to follow. Turns out I missed the first 4 weeks or so, but since I've been spending some time at the gym, I thought it would be okay to try to "catch up".

Can you say "stonker"? Tonight's requirement wasn't that hard: 5 minute warm-up and then walk 3/run 1 for 40 more minutes. Well, I've been doing an hour of more demanding intervals and last week did a lengthy session at 4.0 w/increasing incline up to 5.0. So, I thought this wouldn't be hard. I had SUCH a rough time. UGH! Shin splints from moment one and they didn't go away after the first mile like they usually do. I hope I can pull this off. Well, even if I end up doing w3/r1 the entire CDC instead of w3/r2, I will be okay with that.
Here's the workout:
5 minute warmup at 4.0 --> .33 miles
w3(4.0)/r1(5.2) for 40 minutes -->2.87 miles
total -- 45 minutes, 3.20 miles total
Then 30 minutes on the bike.
Machines say I burned 450 calories; sparkpeople calculation has it over 500 cals.

It's going to be a long 9 weeks, especially training alone. :sad1:

Cam what is the CDC you are training for? Is MFM, marathoning for mortals?

Dave:hippie:

Cam - I'm so excited! We are following the same plan for the CDC! I'm also shooting for w3/r2, but would be happy with w3/r1.

Jackie - I bet Annie is bummed about the race on Sunday. Tell her to hang in there; Marco will improve on those ovals and Milwaukee is a tough track. I was sitting right in front of where Helio's car stopped when he crashed. (In other words, I was right in front of Danica's pit.) Only a couple of weeks until Richmond! (sorry, one last racing thing. i got my tickets for Texas today, so my Richmond tickets should be here soon.)

Krista - Smart move. My Dr. told me that the easiest time to get pg is the first month after stopping BC. Happened to me with both my kids.

Wow, two posts in one night. I really am turning over a new leaf here.

marathonmommy, I am a Penguin! My marathon pace is 6:30-7:00. I enjoy the view! I’m so glad you are here to enjoy training with us.
Sounds like I will need to find some more people like you and Erica! How do you hook up with other WISH runner/walkers once at the event?
You won’t have ANY problem with finding WISH Team members! We will make certain to announce where we line up and if you get in on the next shirt order, you can’t be missed! Stick with us, play here, get to know everyone while everyone gets to know you and you will find you will have the best fun for sure!
Looking forward to lurking some more. I'm really leaning toward doing this! Thanks for the feedback!
Don’t just lurk, stay out an play now that you’ve begun. I WISH that you will make the decision soon. Part of the fun is the roller coaster ride of the training during the year knowing you are officially registered makes part of the fun.

Stephanie, sounds like you’ve made some good purchases with the b-day $$$.

Paul, oh I can’t wait to see the pics of the new baby. I WISH that you get to make the decision to participate as Goofy and find a sitter during that time.

Carrie, glad of your WICKED fun time! I loved that show.

Renee, good for getting DD out there. I WISH she will find it much more fun as time goes.

Monica, good luck w/doc tomorrow

Steve, OMG yes it is funny. Thanks for those Pearls of Wisdom. Good job on that LR too.

Megan, rain running is ok as long as it’s not with lightening. I sat through a seminar once listening to a fantastic speaker saying once he was so overweight he couldn’t walk to the end of the drive (like a Penguin story) and when he began his weight loss journey he ran every day outside no matter what, rain, snow, sleet…at the time I could not imagine ever doing anything like that. Now, I get it! Good luck deciding what you want to do during those times. XT works for me at those times mostly.

lustergirl, I like going out and walking outside best, but let me tell you if Pat (WDWFAN9) is any indicator of what TM work can do you should be fine. She maintained a steady pace through the WDW full this past January in some really hot conditions.

Kevin, sorry about the stonker run, but what a nice neighbor you have for looking out for you like that.

Krista, gee Sweating to the Oldies, what a change and fun. Video, what’s that? You get up early to XT at the gym? That is dedication!

Meghan, good for you to figure out what you like. It will make it easier to do for sure. Glad to have you back.

Cam, if you keep working at that goal and don’t overwork yourself, you may surprise yourself in that your body will kick it in and you will be doing much better than you thought.

Calendar has been updated. Check it out, add your events.

I’ve got something going on with the bottom of my foot exactly at the joint of the big toe. Something is hurting and I have no idea what I did. If it doesn’t improve real soon I guess I gotta make the apt. w/doctor footsie. I’m going to give it a bit longer before I call doc.

Colleen--Congrats on your half marathon!! How are you feeling today? I officially hate your husband! How fair is it that he ran a 1:47 with that little of training?? :sad2:

:rotfl: Yes, Krista, I was hating him too until he tried to come downstairs this morning! He was doing the sideways, gripping both banisters walk down the stairs because his legs hurt so much! I soon felt sorry for him. He is one of those guys that was just blessed with good genetics. He ran 1:40 last year on this same course with a decent amount of training and he felt great the next day.

I am feeling pretty good today. I jumped on the elliptical for 30 minutes and biked for 15 minutes and I almost feel back to normal tonight. Achilles is still a little tight.

One last thing, 10 years ago tonight I was in labour with my first little bundle of joy! DS10 was born June 5, 1997 at 12:15 a.m.:cloud9: I could never have imagined that 10 years later I would be running marathons!:dance3:

Jackie - I bet Annie is bummed about the race on Sunday. Tell her to hang in there; Marco will improve on those ovals and Milwaukee is a tough track. I was sitting right in front of where Helio's car stopped when he crashed. (In other words, I was right in front of Danica's pit.) Only a couple of weeks until Richmond! (sorry, one last racing thing. i got my tickets for Texas today, so my Richmond tickets should be here soon.)

I thought she was going to abandon racing for a couple of minutes. She was so frustrated! I thought he was taking it easy after the Indy crash, and then when he crashed again we couldn't believe it. Wondered if you were there - now I know!

Glad you're back into training mode - whatever works!

Jackie
