Wk of June 3--WISH Walking/Running Club

Judy - I missed the post about Logic, but from reading others' repsonses it didn't sound good. Sending :wizard: your way.

See, I miss a couple weeks of these posts and I feel out of the loop. What does YARC mean?

Terri

Terri -

Let me get you caught up here.....

Logic was my horse and she died three months ago on Sunday and Monday would have been her birthday. It was a rough couple of days for me. Thanks for asking. :sad1:

YARC is the "You Ain't Right Club", started when I said something bizaare and Big Vic told me I "ain't right". :upsidedow I was nominated as President, although I prefer Queen. :snooty: People who have a few screws loose have been nominated for membership. WWDave has been leading the drive to recruit members and it's becoming very popular.

So, there you have it. :lmao:

I did XT today on the bike, 2nd time out. This time, I went back & forth on a fairly flat area near the house, to start getting aclimated to the bike. It wasn't nearly as hard as the first time! And the residual soreness is wearing off.

I found a neat tool, though I haven't fully checked it out yet. www.runnersworld.com/smartcoach
Hopefully you all will find it useful.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to read all the posts....crazy in my office today and they actually expect me to work:eek: But just wanted to pop in to say hi to everyone and hope you all had a great evening.

Kim

Hello Everyone,

WWDave: Nice job on doing the intervals. They're good for you.

Bill/Patsfan: Hope you'll keep posting. So you live in Connecticut? Hope the back is OK. I'm sure your help with the laundry was greatly appreciated. I usually stuff newpapers into my running shoes to help them dry out.

Jackie: Glad you're feeling better. Good for you for going out in the heat to do your workout.

Monte: Good luck with your foot pain. Congrats on being a grandma. How soon till you get to see her?

Stacey: Good job on the bike ride. Let me know what you think of that SmartCoach site when you've had a chance to look at it. I thought the pace they wanted me to do my LR was way slower than I'm running it now. I'd be interested in hearing other people's thoughts on it.

Bill: Glad the "white gold" survived the power outage. I remember those days all too well.

Leana: Such an elegant tea!! I know it's after the fact, but I definately think you can run back to back. Just don't do hard workouts back to back. After all, you'll have to run back to back sooner or later if you plan to go Goofy.

DaveSkywalker: Great LR. Glad you had such a good run. Are you doing the track w/o alone? Good job getting out there. Have a safe trip.

Lily: Great pic at NF. Hope your foot feels better soon.

Jen: Good job getting a run in while camping.

Stephanie: Good luck w/ your 18 week plan. Glad you bought some nice new stuff. Sorry there were no whistlers out to appreciate your new skirt.

Megan: I definately vote for running in the rain over a TM run. Good job getting out there.

Erica: Glad you had a good walk. It's great that you and Dave have each other to train with.

Kevin: Sorry about you getting sick. Glad your other runs were good.

Laurie: Glad you had a good time at your hockey T'ney. Enjoy your time off from running.

Andrew: Good job on the LR. Good luck w/ the interview.

Krista: Sign up for WDW. If you're not pg you'll be glad you did, if you are, you'll be so happy you won't mind losing the $100. I put off lots of things thinking well maybe I might...it took us 3 yrs, so you never know.

Judy: Best WISHes during a tough week.

Lustergirl: Welcome.

There is an interesting article in RW this month about finding your ideal racing weight. They mention that you can speed up by 2 sec/mile/lb you lose, provided you have the weight to lose. That's a little more motivation for me. They also discuss a study that found "it's often better to be fat but fit rather than lean and out-of-shape. Fitness can trump fatness." So yeah for all of us getting out there and moving!! :thumbsup2 :cool1:

I'm cutting back my mileage this week to rest my legs a bit before ramping up again. I did 4 miles on the TM yesterday at an easy pace. I'll just have to go easy on the eating since I won't be burning off as many calories this week.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Carrie-I actually came back to my bf's house and told him we had to go for a walk. I told him that his neighborhood looks completely different that way. He promptly told me I was nuts and to get my soaking stinky body away from him. :rotfl:

Christa-Glad I'm not alone on this! I can give directions to some places that I drive to a lot but not ones I walk to.

Cam-I think dogs have no respect for their humans! My dog even barks when I come in from my morning run. I wonder how many people he sees coming in our door at 6:30 am?

Kim-What is this work stuff? Don't they know I'm sitting here at work just waiting to hear your thoughts about how the Stanley Cup is going to go?

Cindy-I used to be a TM person but now I"m prepared to run the street rain or shine. Now snow... that's something completely different that I"ll face in winter.

Okay, so I am wondering if something was wrong with the TM last night. It was curious that it was unoccupied when the whole place was packed, and the history on it showed someone had only stayed on it about 2 minutes before I got on it. It did feel like it was going so much faster than the 4.0 mph that the readout said, and I thought it was odd to get shin splints after stretching when I usually only get them if I try to go wtihout stretching or if I start at 4.4 mph or so. All that being said. . .
I am not going to worry about last night's stonker and it is going to be so hard to wait until Thursday to give it another try. Since I'll be busy with special olympics and houseguests all weekend, I will try to do Thursday's session in the early morning and then will do this weekend's LW Monday morning, if I can do that.

And, this is where I need your advice -- I think instead of w3/r1 at 4.0/5.2, I will do w3/r1 at 4.2/5.0. I think I should end up with a bit more distance and won't be so tired after the running intervals. What do you guys think?

Hi all:

Nothing to report on the training/walking front for yesterday or today yet. The back has been acting up-this is the result of, among other things, arthritis in the back, a couple of disc issues and everything getting thrown out of whack with the hip surgeries (especially not having one for several months while fighting the infection). I'm pretty sure my current size doesn't help either (working on changing it). Several months ago, it was a constant problem where I always looked like a derivative symbol or question mark.

Bill are trying to say you had the posture of a Jumbo Shrimp? Glad you got that under control.:thumbsup2

Here Ye Here Ye Judy, (HonnieBee), is now the official QUEEN of "YARC". So it is written so it shall be. Bill please put your legal stamp on this and we can offically offer her to her loyal subjects for viewing and adoring.:wizard:

We had a wonderful 10K walk this morning, our LSD pace 1:28. Beautiful day 70 degrees and a nice breeze. I love having my lady with me on my LSD days.

Thanks for the clarification on the CDC and the MFM. I was thinking Cleveland Distance Classic.

A note on the marathon programs for walkers, these are for beginner walkers, several of the folks on here are not beginners but seasoned distance walkers. There are some good progranms for intermediate and advanced walkers on the walking site.

Have a great day y'all.

Dave:hippie: "YARC"!

Speaking of training and rain (we were, weren't we), do running shoes recover OK from a rain workout or do people use special rain shoes (like an older pair). As you all know, I am a novice but figure I will try to get my walks in in any weather if I am going to succeed. Of course, right now both pairs of my running shoes are pretty new.

I take out the inserts...if you have ones that come out and place them (the shoes and the inserts) in front of the bottom of the fridge/freezer...Place them with the openings facing the fridge. The mild warm air from the fridge will dry them. I do wash mine if they are really bad, but I do not put them in the dryer. I had a warning on my shoes saying the dryer could damage them.

I thought I was QUEEN...but I guess the Evil Queen and YARC Queen are 2 different Queens.:rotfl: Even though I am the poster child for the YARC.

Normally I do not post 3Xs in a row, but WTHeck...I am in YARC!:lmao:

I ran 5 miles today...forgot my watch so not sure of the time. It is sometimes freeing to train W/O a watch. Did it around an indoor track where 1 mile is 20 laps...:scared1: SO, yes, I did 100 laps....total mind game but had the ol Ipod and ..."Pour Some Sugar on Me" helped....must be the carbs.:rotfl:

He promptly told me I was nuts and to get my soaking stinky body away from him. :rotfl:
I think you need a new bf! ;) ;) ;) ;) (Just in case the smilies don't do it, I am 100% kiddng and am not insured to offer relationship advice)

Cam - Try it out and see what feels right Definitely try a diff TM next time , though!

Erica - Woo hoo!!!

Did a 10K lsd today after 8.1 miles yesterday! Can you say GOOFY.......here I come:cool1:

Erica:)

Erica you are certainly "YARC" material. Even though you had the good sense to marry me you have a querky side that makes you fit right in.

Krista, yes Judy is the Queen of "YARC", you on the other hand are the beautiful but mysterious Queen of the WISH Team. The fact that you have a wicked side makes you a perfect complement to Judy's mischevious side.

Vic I see you are laying low today, wise move. Perhaps a poem of forgiveness to Judy for trying to undermine her authority might help.

Dave:hippie: "YARC"

Oh I see. I am just "the Queen", yet Krista gets to be beautiful and mysterious???? :maleficen

ETA: OK I KNOW Krista IS beautiful, I'm just teasing!

Hey team. I have been a major lurker. Sorry about that, but things are a little heated here and I have to lay low.

Yesterday I did 35 minutes on the elliptical during lunch. Today I did a 40 minute power walk during my lunch. I may be able to get in something tonight at the gym.... not sure if I will run the TM or do some biking or maybe some weights. I really haven't decided yet.

DH's knee surgery is on Thursday. They wanted to do both knees at once, but that would lay him up too long and he wasn't for that. So they will do one at a time. His doctor is an avid biker (not motorcycles) and told him he should be able to take it slow on a bike in a couple of weeks. That thrilled DH!!!

OK, gotta run. HEY HEY to all you silly YARCers (I am in denial!!!).

WW Dave--I know it's been said before, but I gotta say it again: YOU AIN'T RIGHT!!!!! :rotfl:

Christa and Judy--Is Queen 1 and Queen 2 anything like Thing 1 and Thing 2? :confused3

Megan--See, now you have to get your bf to start running with you. 2 sweaty, stinky bodies cancel each other out! :thumbsup2

So, I read in Runners World that women who are long distance runners need 9 servings of fruits and veggies a day and that men need 12. I was thinking of how I can incorporate more fruit and veggies into my diet. Do you think the blueberries in my blueberry bagel that I eat every morning counts as 1 serving of fruit? What about the lime in the Diet Coke with lime I am drinking now....

;)

I think you need a new bf! ;) ;) ;) ;) (Just in case the smilies don't do it, I am 100% kiddng and am not insured to offer relationship advice)

Here I thought your name was Dr. Carrie. He's definitely kicked to the curb if Gerard Butler comes knocking on my door.

Krista-I'll have to tell the bf your logic on sweaty stinky bodies. (Although I glow not sweat.) So far all my other reason for him running with me haven't worked.

Is it ok to use my TM during thunder/lightening storm? I have visions of it getting zapped and me having to run 100 mph....

Poppinspal: I know....just cause I am at work, doesn't mean I have to work does it.:confused3 :lmao:

Anyways playoffs.....well I think my team is done. They certainly didn't come to play this series. Although I believe Ottawa is a faster, more skilled team they just still don't have what it takes to win the cup....yet. I am really not a Ottawa fan but DS is a huge fan so I was cheering along with him. I don't even think I will watch tomorrow night.

OK, back to work.

Kim
