Wk of June 10--WISH Walking/Running Club

Kim-Are they putting something in your water there? You guys were walking nuts yesterday! Is it sad that I'm kind of jealous?

Leana-Sorry to hear about Beerfest, it sounded so cool when you were talking about it. I was tempted to have another go at the Harry Potter books too but I'm working on Tom Saywer now so Harry will have to wait a little while. I'm worried that the last book may leave me feeling off. Maybe I could do books on tape while at work. :rotfl:

Judy-It's funny I was just discussing bunions with my aunt and her husband yesterday. (Her husband is an orthopedic surgeon. Figured he's my best bet for advice without going to the doctor.) My aunts bunions are so bad that I'm not sure how she even walks, her toes were at an outrageous angle. Anywho... she was telling me she gets her sneakers specially widened for her bunions. They mark where her bunions are on the sneaker then stretch them at that point. My uncle said sometimes they recommend that before surgery because sometimes the right shoes can help. It might be something to ask your doctor about. (Hopefully my new shoes will help me and I'm not at the shoe stretching or surgery stage yet.) Either way I hope things get better for you soon!!!

Stacey-The last part of my run is a run up my hill. (Thanks to my parents for buying the house at the top of a large hill.) I've actually gotten in the practice of walking my hill both ways and not counting towards my distance because I hit enough hills on my run. But I look at it as great conditioning for my butt even if my times aren't great for the hilly sections.

Martha-I probably could hide the book but it's probably bad enough I check DIS out at work. I'm glad summers are slow!

Good afternoon everyone. Hoping you are all having a wonderful Monday.

Bill – Glad to hear you were able to get a couple of workouts in last week, and glad the family is doing well. Do the running stores in Melbourne open when they say they will? I was told my another merchant in the same complex that operating hours were flexible because they were on the beach. Whatever the heck that means. :sad2:

Stephanie – WTG with the 6 miler!

TriMom – No dilly dallying allowed! ;) :rotfl:

Kelley – Glad to hear the DH is on the mend, and keep up the training.

Heather – WTG with the training.

Megan – Good pace. Congrats on the new shoes. :thumbsup2

Kim – WTG with the 8K.

Leana – “Food Fight!!” :dance3:

Sara – Good luck with your marathon.

Charlie – Congrats!

Judy – WTG with the 3 and 5 milers! Sorry to hear about your pain. Hope the doc can help you out.

Krista – Great training yesterday! Stupid running store.

Stacey – WTG with the 4.4 miler!

Martha - Hope you feel better soon.

:)

Megan - Thanks for the advice. This would actually be my second bunion surgery. I already had it done on my left foot. I should have had them both done at the same time but I didn't. I can't imagine them as bad as your aunt. Mine is only slightly angled and it hurts like heck. How does she endure that? I'm a baby when it comes to pain.

Martha - Well, Martha I missed a golden opportunity to take a picture of Charlie in his SCUBA suit last night. He was trying on his heavier long suit and couldn't get out of it. I was on the phone with Disney about our ADRs for the ToT trip, and all I hear on the floor behind me is a lot of rolling around and grunting and somewhat obscene sounds. I was afraid to turn around because I knew if I did I would start laughing. But I had to when I heard a little "Help me please". I told the CM what was going on and she too started laughing. Geez. :lmao:

WWDave
- I would like to nominte my husband as Official YARC Jester. Dat' boyz crazy! :jester:  And to quote someone we all know and love...He married me, didn't he?? :rotfl2:

Happy Monday, WISHers!

It finally cooled off a bit here, so after slacking off all weekend I went out and got in 6.8 miles in 64 minutes today for about a 9:25 pace with which I am VERY happy. It felt pretty good the whole way. I really think that cross training this year instead of just running all the time is making it easier on this old body.

Mel - Why give up the Diet Pepsi? I find my Pepsi to be a great pre-run drink! :thumbsup2
Christa - Okay, just reading your post makes me tired. :faint:
Dave - So glad to hear things are better with DW. DH and I are making the marathon weekend adult only; looking forward to it!!
Kim - Spring cleaning is definitely cross training!
Shan - Kudos for working out on the cruise! I think any workout done on a cruise gives you double credit!
Craig & Martha - Welcome back! Glad you had a good trip to Italy!
Andrew - I keep thinking there's a tri in my future as well, but that swimming part just scares me
Erica - Congrats on a 20 mile week! :cool1:
Vic -Glad to hear the feet are feeling good!
Bill - ToT is a race in the fall you can train for!
Kelley - So glad to hear that DH is recovering! Sending more pixiedust: your way.
Dave - I am getting excited for ToT, but haven't bit the bullet and registered. I really need to get on that! I'm deciding on the 6.5 or the 13 as I'm running a half marathon the next weekend.
Heather - I have the same thoughts about running in the heat being good training for Disney. But I'm sure this year will be perfect running weather! ;)
Megan - At least you got your sister out there! Sounds like she'd be a good running partner for my DD!
Kim - 10K walking! Woo hoo! :cool1:
Leana - Good luck squeezing in that 5 miler!
Sara - Happy tapering! I hope you have a great race this weekend!
Judy - Yay for Charlie! :cheer2: Sounds like a trip to the pod would be a good idea for you.
Krista - Movies at the gym?!? I want some of that! :3dglasses I have to be happy with ESPN at the Y!
Stacey - Way to go on the 9:30 pace!

Apologies to any I've missed; happy training to all!
Renee

Yes!! And it's awesome! Every single piece of cardio equipment has it's own flat paneled television hooked to it so you can watch whatever you want. Plus there's a Cardio Theatre--a huge room with probably 20-30 treadmills and maybe 10 ellipticals that shows movies on a continuous loop on a big screen projection in the dark. Perfect for lr's! I love being a member of Gold's Gym!! :cloud9:

Random notes:

SkyDave - I am sooo relieved that dw is coming aorund. I was thinking about you 2 al weekend.

Krista - :wizard: HOpe you have a pain free run!

Judy - The booty pain and teh pain that kind of radiates to the knee sounds piri formis like to me. I'd go with the surgery and orthdics option. :wizard: Congrats to Charlie!

Martha and Craig - Welcome back!!!

Jen - Legal issues and having to change churches? I coudl not imagine it getting worse than it was, but I guess I was wrong again. :grouphug: I'll have to tell my mom how blessed she is that my aunt is not as bad as yours. She won't believe it.

CHriata - Way to show those boys waht a skirt'll do for you!

Forgive me. these busy days are killing me. :(

As ofor me, I feel like I've lost all cardio, all leg strenght and all heat resistance. besifdes that, life is swell. :rolleyes1 I barely made my 3- miler in 70-degree weather. I swear it felt like 90. I'd pool run, but my legs need to get used to the new way tehy land with teh lift adn orthodics. So, tonight I'll be wearing my lightest clothes adn carrying 2 water bottles and a spange for, get this, 40 minutes. Ugh.

Carrie - I thought I was going to die on my LR on Saturday and it was only in the 70's, but very hot sun and it was still morning. Then on Sunday it was even hotter and I was so happy I ran on Saturday. I am so not a hot weather girl. But then again I am not a cold weather girl either. Hmmmm... What am I??? Oh and about the legal stuff... trust me, it gets worse but I just can't talk about it right now. It's just heartbreaking and I have a lot of trust issues in people now, you know.

Krista - I am coming to YOUR gym! I thought Cam was lucky with her little video Ipod thing. I am lucky if the 5 TV's in our cardio room are not all on the same channel.

Martha and Craig - Oh you lucky dogs. Glad your home safe. If you have any gorgeous pics, feel free to post them!!!

I had a simply awesome 8 miler with WWDave. It did my heart good to hear him say that I made him work at it today!:cool1: The weather here was just perfect today: overcast, in the upper 60's with a cool breeze.

Hope everybody has a wonderful afternoon and evening.

Erica:)

I thought we were going to do an easy 8 mile walk, yea right, our split for the 10K was 1:24. I guess you are back Pretty Princess Erica.

Dave:hippie:

Amazing! I looked it up since I didn't know what it was...and that's it! Amazing! Thank you Dr Carrie! :worship:

Looks like I really better start stretching seriously now and get some strength training going.

Really, Carrie, that's amazing. Thank you so much.

I'll send you my co-pay.

Judy - Actually, I handle all of Carrie's Accounts... send the co-pay directly to me!!!! ;)

OK, now I see why you have legal proceedings against you! :lmao:

Judy - I didn't go through 6 weeks of PT with 3 diff therapist, a DO, adn an MD for nuttin'!

Erica - Woo hoo fo makin' the man work! That's such a great feeling. Yeah, mine's gonna' carry my water bottles to pretend he's being challenged at all.

Hi all!!

Dave-- Glad to hear that DW is coming around. I hope you're enjoying Rio!!

Marathonmommy-- Great news about telling DH!!

Shan-- I noticed that you ran while on the Wonder.... how many laps around is a mile?? Is it crowded?? I'm on the Magic for Christmas and will need to get some training in, so I'm curious.

Kelley-- Great news about DH!!

Craig and Martha-- Glad you had a great trip and made is back safely.

Mel-- It looks like I'm going to be passing on the CDC. :guilty: The timing just doesn't work out this year. I may come down for the race and cheer, though! :cheer2:

Carrie-- I'm with you on the weather. It takes me forever to get used to the cold and then it takes me forever to get used to the heat. Oh well, at least October's nice! :thumbsup2

Leana-- Seriously... I don't get the 10am starts. :confused3 Oh well, there's beer and fancy pastries after my race, so all's well. :teeth: And I can't WAIT for TO!! Yes, we were just there 6 weeks ago.... but the June trip is something that we wait for all year. Thank goodness I have stuff to do this week, otherwise I'd be.... :dance3:

Judy-- Thanks for checking this morning. I've been sort of OCDing on checking the database, but number has not been drawn yet. (And the database just went offline until noon tomorrow... Boo...) I guess now we just wait and see.....

So the house has cleared out of guests from this weekend, but unfortunately I missed my LR again. I'm pretty ticked at myself for that one after getting everything in the rest of the week. I'm going to try and do the 9 miles this Saturday in place of the scheduled 6, especially since I will be likely missing my LR next weekend too (unless I treadmill it).

Today's run: 3.00 miles in 26:57, so 8:59/mile.

Back to work here...
Kevin :earsboy:

Carrie - No legal things against me, I am just an innocent bystander.... so I can I still collect your money??

My "YARC" comment for the day:

Will Rogers said, "I never met a man I didn't like". Well Will Rogers never met the Reverend Al Sharpton.

To all of our "YARC" Pretty Princesses, I dedicate the song by Trace Akins, "One Hot Mama".

To all our "YARC" Princes I dedicate the Song, "Bad to the Bone".

Have a great day y'all.

Dave:hippie: "YARC"

Kevin, I don't recall the amount of laps it took to make a mile. There were several signs posted on the wall though showing the direction to jog and the number of laps required to make a mile.

I had my Nike+ sensor on so I didn't pay attention, but it did feel like I went around ALOT. It wasn't too crowded. Maybe three other runners out each time I went?

Good evening everyone. I actually walked today as the back finally felt good enough to give it a go. I am still early in this new life and getting a feeling for the "new" hips, but I got in 1.25 miles in 25 minutes. Not great compared to you vets, but I am happy with it given the above and the fact it was one of my first outdoor walks with a couple of small hills. I also want to thank everyone for you prior advice regarding wet running shoes. I saw and heard the thunderstorms in the distance and decided to give it ago. Half way through, I knew I could stop or keep going as the dark clouds were overhead. I decided to keep going and, of course, it starting down pouring. Once completely soaked, I felt assured knowing my brand new $90.00 Beasts (pair #2) will be fine. Right? Plus, I figured Sluggo wouldn't be foolish enough to risk drowning.

*Mel* Ithink you should give up the Diet Pepsi, Diet Coke is so much better. (Note to Moderators, I am not trying to start a debate on this sensitive topic, but cleary, Disney only serves Coke for a reason and I'm sure its not money.)

*Carrie* Just to pass ong encouragement on your return to land, I'll share with you my wife's response to me after one pool PT session: "That's great you did all that, too bad you live on land." (She's a strong advocate of tough love.)

*WWDave* No song for YARC's legal counsel. How about "How Do You Like Me Now?"

How about "Here Come the Judge".

For Her Highness the Queen:snooty: , Tom Jones "She's a Lady".

Sounds like you are off to a good start Bill.

Back yesterday from a week at the beach. Got good results from my PET scan while I was there. You can read the rambling version in my journal runwdw2008 -- but the condensed version is this:

Wonderful husband and four kids, happy extended family vacationing with us, great beach, great food, great chocolate, great book "In the Company of Cheerful Ladies", great bike trails (two 17 mile bike rides during the week)

Good to be home.

Dona

I can't find the otrthodics (spelling?) I'm supposed to wear in my shoes and don't want to shell out another $400+ to replace them, so I bought a pair of MC Shoes this weekend. Saucony Grid Stabil MC. They don't seem comfy, but I'm looking to stay uninjured. I found them at an outlet and got an additional discount. Paid less than $40. Also got some tech socks and a clip on blinking light. Of course, I haven't actually gotten "out there" yet. The absolute latest is 7/18. . . I should do someting now. I keep procrastinating.
