Wk of Jun 25--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Guarantee he thought I was either drunk or mentally insane.
now do you see what I live with every day??!! :joker:

Good morning everyone. Glad to see that everyone is working hard and getting their steps in. Hines and I did 2.75 miles in 30 minutes last night, I thought about just doing 3 miles, but it was still pretty warm at 8:00 and Hines was dragging behind me. It's so funny, at the beginning of our run, Hines is usually running right with me or slightly in front of me, but by the end, he's 6 feet behind me. He needs to learn how to pace himself!!! :teeth:

Christa--It must go with the name, I LOVE to eat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stephen and I plan our vacations around where we want to eat, just to make sure we get all of our favorites in. Loved seeing pictures of your girls and you look fabulous in your bikini. I hate to know what your MIL thinks being skinny is.

Jodi--   July is just around the corner!!!!

Sunny-- :cheer2: :cheer2: that your back is getting better and you are able to run and lift again. That is fantastic news!!! You truly are an inspiration to all of us. We're going camping next weekend too, but there's going to be 9 of us, you are brave going with just your son!!

Melissa--Great pictures!! The boy is a cutie!! I must have been skimming again, because I totally missed that you built that bike. Impressive!!!

Dave--Swogging! I love it!!

Tiff--Glad that VBS is going good. I know from experience how time consuming it has been. Fun, but time consuming (and tiring!!).

Kevin--I'm glad that your vacation has been great. Did you get some training in? I always love running while on vacation--even weekend trips, it's amazing what a change of scenery can do for you.

Carrie--How are the feet? Looking any better?

Colleen--Good luck on the 9th!

your girls are about the same age as my girls. Maybe they can all make signs together for the marathon..
My girls would definitely love to work on that project with your princesses. They are the best little cheerleaders ever and my sole inspiration.

Here's a question for the Disney planning experts. I'm considering staying off site for the WDW marathon weekend. We have a voucher for 4 nights in a 2 bedroom condo at the Sheraton Vistana Villages, but I was thinking of getting a room for 1 night in the Wilderness Lodge to sleep on site the night before the marathon. So can I only make dinner ressies for the 1 day/night that I am on site?
You can make ADR's for anytime you want. At 180 days out call 800-828-0228. We are staying offsite for marathon weekend also. Since we'll be at WDW 11/23-12/4, I just can't justify spending anymore than I have to in January.

So feeling much better today, I went out and purchased the bare minimum camping gear and put ressies in for my favorite campground in the White Mountains (Lafayette) for next week. It'll just be me and DS6. Am I insane or what? I just can't let this summer go by without some real fun and the vacation days were already planned before the stupid pn and sciatica.

That makes 3 of us!!! We're going camping next weekend too down in the Finger Lakes region. DW and I are taking the princesses, DD5 princess: and DD8 princess:, camping for the first time. They got me a huge 2 room cabin tent for Father's Day, we've already practiced setting it up, and we're all going down over the 4th. Got our ressie all set.

Sunny - Woo hoo for the green light to work out. I'm hoping you can keep it wasy, as you plan to. I nkow that's hard fo ryou. ;)

Carrie- I thought some of you already had room reservations made.
I do have them. The TA was answering my question on another board about MAgical Express cost for January when she told me that prices fo 2007 coume out in August, so ME prices should come out then. Looks liek all your other questions were answered.

Krista - The worst-looking blister is still pretty nasty. Only 2 show, but this one is huge, nasty (rubbed of before I finished) and on the top of my foot. SInce I have to keep a band aid on it, it doesn't scab over. SUpposed to heal quicker, though, right? Let's hope. Tee hee on the"what you have to live with." :rotfl:

I took last night off, but moved a bunch of clothe sot the basement and switched out sumemr and winte r(only slightly behind, long story) and finally arranged most of the stuff in my bathroon m the wasy I want (yes, I'm as slow putting back together as Scott is constructing.) So, kind of a cross train. ;) Our legs are feeling stiff, so I don't want ot overdo and get really discouraged. Scheduled for 3 tonight. SUpposed to be cooler. Yay!!!!

Good morning all, from hot hazy & humid Mississauga. Tonight I'm scheduled to run a 4 miler (6KM). It should be a very hard run which will be mentally challenging.

Mel - I noticed in the Wish Team that you listed me from CA - is the not California. Sould it not read. CAN or ON. This is just me being petty.

Melissa - The 3 day a week is just a "Rest period" for me as I trained really hard for my last half and shaved 3 mins of my PB. Will get back up to 4-5 days a week come Aug. with x-training the other ones.

Craig - Thanks for the info. I still can't make up my mind on which resort to stay at FQ or RS but is deffinatly going to be PO. The distance away from the start is not that much. I do like to do a short run before the start a half mile would be perfect.

Christa -
I do have to say the 20 milers are most of the time easier than the shorter runs. I think of it as an adventure. Sometimes when I do a 3 or 5 mile run, I am looking at my watch and wondering when I will be done. With a LR, I know it will take me hours, not minutes, so I don't look at my watch as often.
- I agree that the short ones are eaiser. They are suppost to be that way. The short one should stress your muscles but the long ones should stress on your heart.

BTW you have a very cute daughter.

Kevin - Next time you are in T.O make your way to Port Credit in Mississauga and come by the Running Room for a run. We have group runs on Wedensday at 6:30pm and Sundays at 8:30am. Ask for Robb

Sunny - Love the t-shirt design. I agree, my training program says that I sould also slow down on LSD runs. On the other hand I need to speed up on my other runs. Pace pace pace.

Take it easy with runs don't go out and hurt yourself again.

Dave As I said to Kevin please when you are in town drop by for a run once you get a green light.

Krista -
He needs to learn how to pace himself!!!
. I've said it before and I will say it again. PACE PACE PACE pass it on to Hines

Cheers

What you me your dog can't read :rotfl2:

Did a 3 mile tm run today. Also lifted. I've been havin that left booty pain again, so i got an x-ray. I don't think it showed anything. Phil thought it was possibly a stress fx in pelvis (but we don't actually think it is). While I was up there, they asked me to do a bone density test (bc they are getting a new machine and need 30 people to do one on old machine and then new) My bone density was good (which i was happy aobut) but we did notice that my spine was curved. Phil thinks that is why my hip keeps hurting but I'm not sure what we should do about it. We were thinking aobut putting an insert in one shoe. I tried to run w/ a different gait today to see if that would help. Anyway, I'd like to get my booty to stop hurting! Does anyone run w/ slight scoliosis?

Christa - love the pics. You look great and the gals are beautiful!

Dave - I've basically done every workout in the socks since i got them!!!!

Krista - Was the sock still there last night?

MelR - I hope the socks aren't throwing off your gait and causing booty pain! Seriously, glad you're liking the team socks.

What you me your dog can't read

Robb--I keep working with him, I just don't know what his problem is!! ;)

Krista - Was the sock still there last night?

Melissa--YES!! The sock is still there! It's back to it's original khaki color, the rain we got Monday night must have washed it clean. :laundy:

Maggie--Thanks for teaching us this nifty wrap quote thing. If only I could post pictures, my Dising would be complete!!

Carrie--Good luck with your run tonight. Cleaning/rearranging is definitely cross training in my book! I have plans to clean out the basement someday--go through old papers and throw them away, repack boxes, etc--not looking forward to that! I may have to do it fairly soon as we need to dig out our camping stuff and I need to see what we have and I need to get before next Friday.

Kaycee--:welcome: (Sorry, I'm a little behind!)

Alriiiiiighty then. My first post in an exercise thread. As I mentioned over in the intro thread for the mara/half, my wife and I are diving head first into all this.

My challenge is the full marathon, never completed more than a half, and only did one of those in Austin in January in 2:07ish and since then have gotten more out of shape and gained more weight. My wife's challenge is probably harder, she's never raced more than a 5k before and is going to try to complete the half marathon.

We're both active military up in the panhandle of Florida, so those 3 times a week PT sessions should help, but going to try to motivate each other outside of that for those weekend long runs.

I did probably a bit under 3 miles midday today in the searing heat, been averaging 2-3 miles three times a week so far in the few weeks since I've started this latest "new leaf."

Oh, I'm also going to run the Disneyland half by myself, my hometown is only a half hour away so I'll be staying with the 'rents. :lmao:

Welcome Matt! :welcome: There is also a DL 1/2 marathon thread that you can join. A group of us are going to DL and plan to meet while we are there. We will be wearing our lime green WISH Racing Team shirts.

Today is my rest day so nothing to report on the training front. The images of Steve, Dave, and Sunny running around like crazy people in the pool made me smile. :)

MelR-- I'm sorry to hear you are having booty pain. Are you sure its not piriformis syndrome (you know I can't spell, hope you know what I meant). I have slight scoliosis. Is that what you meant by curved spine? My right leg is slightly longer than my left, I'm wondering if that affects my running.

Speaking of bikes... I just learned that my brother's future father-in-law (would that be DBDFFIL?) collects bikes and bike parts from his local dump and cleans them up, fixes them and sells them on Craig's list! Maybe I have a source for a cheap bike afterall... I wish DS and I were both ready to ride for this camping trip. There are great paths in the White Mountains.

But I bought an inflatable kayak for our trip! We just tried it out on a local pond and it works great. As long as it doesn't spring a leak. Its hard to fully deflate again, but easy enough to inflate with a foot pump. I made DS do most of the pumping. Can you tell my back/leg are much better?

I woke up to severe pain this morning and wondered what in the world I was thinking when I booked a camping trip. But the pain was gone within an hour so I should be good to go. We'll just have rough mornings.

I went to the Y and did weights for the first time in 6 weeks. I did exactly half my normal weight settings. The stupid FitLynx machine kept saying "You did not reach your target weight, would you like to decrease your target weight?" By the third machine I was ready to scream at it "Of course not, you idiot!"

I also improved my recovery baseline (TM) 5k to 33:22 (it was 34:50 a couple of days ago).

Sunny

Robb-- I meant to add, pace is definitely something I need to become diligent about. Like you, I tend to run my LSD too fast and then skimp on speed work, temp runs. Last year I didn't follow a plan for the marathon. This year I think I will try to be more disciplined. (ya I know, some people are laughing).

Sunny - :thumbsup2 :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :woohoo: for your good report...hate to hear that you are hurting! :wizard:

Melissa - Hope your booty feels better! :rotfl: Are you sure it isn't all those times your bronco has thrown you!?!?

Matt - :welcome: To this nutty group! It is a party 24/7! party: My DH is named Matt..so I think you have a VERY cool name!

Krista - That sock is kill'n me! :lmao: And I am so glad you are teaching your dog pacing! I need tips...my JRT is crazy! She can out run me...for 3 miles at least! :thumbsup2

A MIL note.....Some of you have commented, but Just in case everyone doesn't know or remember my posting my MIL story...My MIL has always said with all the working out I do, I should be skinny...Well this year at the beach she commented on the weight I had lost...I said, well you would think with all the working out I do, that I would be skinny! She looked very dazed and said, well all those marathons must be finally working b/c you look really good! OUT OF CONTROL! Am I supposed to take that as a compliment (I cannot spell so sorry!?) :furious: DH did tell her I was really in shape and started bragging on my fitness level and body fat level, ect, ect....and how proud he was of me!

Christa - Yes!!! Take that as a compliment. (Besides, I think it's as close as your MIL will ever get.) Trust your real friends to tell you how it is, though!

Krista - Ewwww, somehow, that seems worse than black now. Be patient with Hines, K? :rotfl2: OK, I had a friend ask for me to tell how to post pics "very slowly". Here's my reply. If this doesn't work, just e-mail them to me and I'll post 'em for you. ;)

Welcome Matt! I have a friend from another board whose dh is in the pan handle and in the AF? You in the AF? I'm geographically adn militarily challenged, so I have no idea how many branches of the military may be in the pan handle.

Sunny - WHy am I still worried about you? ;)

Judy - Have you found CAm yet??? ;)

Minnie - How are you doing? I was thinking of you and your recoveery adn I'm afraid I may have skimmed too much.

ahhhhh........ It was so much less hot tonight. Still not cool while running, but I finished without wanting to die. I should be so much further ahead though. Darn that slackign time!

:welcome: Kaycee and Matt :welcome:

Psssst Sunny...I fell off the wagon, too. I hit the TM last night. Slow and easy (W8/R2), but it was ok...with everything going on, I really needed the run.

The foot's doing better. I'm wearing my ASICS at work with the NB arch supports and things seem to be getting better. I've given up on the taping for now, but if anyone's interested in the technique, it's called low Dye strapping and can be found with any google search. My pod used 2 inch tape for mine.

MelR...you asked about scoliosis...DD13 has a 30 degree curvature. She's done the Minnie 15K, plays soccer, tennis, swims...we never would have known anything if the pediatrician hadn't caught it.

Ready for another bad doctor story? DD13 had a kidney ultrasound during her scoliosis evaluation which turned up a cyst on the kidney. Her pediatrician wanted her to see a pediatric urologist in St. Pete at the children's hospital. We were told a month ago to make an appt and bring the ultrasound films for the doc to look at and see if he thought she needed further follow-up. The urologist's office couldn't schedule us then because of a computer problem, so I was waiting to call them for the appt. Last week I got a call wanting to know if she'd had her CT scan yet. Ummm...what CT scan? :confused3 Apparently the urologist wanted to get a CT scan, but no one bothered to tell us. The problem...DD13 is spending the summer with her dad on the other coast. I've spent the past week trying to get things clarified (why he's ordering the CT, what we're looking for, possible next steps, etc), getting her scheduled, and now have to go to Orlando to pick her up tomorrow night for the scan on Friday, then take her back to Orlando to her dad. All of this for a doc she's never seen :furious:
We personally never order tests or procedures on patients we haven't seen first to discuss things...I'm getting the scan done, but looking for another urologist to follow-up with...I still just can't believe how poorly this has been handled.

OK, rant off...sorry to dump, but this is driving me  I just had to run last night to defuse a bit.

Sunny - Piriformis (or whatever) syndrome is a possiblilty for they booty pain. I started some new stretches to address that. I was actually wondering if I could put an insert in one of my shoes to balance out my legs/hips to see if that would help the gait and in turn help the booty! The camping trip sounds awesome!! The kayak sould be a blast :thumbsup2
and yeah for the potential bike source!!

Mel-- no need to apologize for the rant. What a disaster. I hope you can get teh apts resolved and get poor DD13 where she needs to be, when. And espeicially, :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: to make all these tests totally unnecessary.

MelR-- I've thought about trying to even out my legs, too. But its scarey to start messing with them. A few years back i bought a cheap pair of Nike running shoes and thought nothing of it. I ended up with achillies tendon that took nearly 4 months to resolve. It is amazing how sensitive our little tootsies really are! I hope you find a solution soon. Weren't you experimenting with wearing two different shoe models at one time? Did that help?

Christa-- your MIL is too much! I'm glad your marathon running as finally paid off-- as if it hasn't been all along and as if that was the sole purpose of running :confused3 Don't give it another thought!

Sunny - go to bed!! It is reallly late there!! I'm night owl too, but it is only 11pm here. I am going to run w/ ec tomorrow and i'm going to put an extra insert in my right shoe to see how it goes. I'll keep you posted! I was thinking that i might need a new pair of shoes. I know i've done 3 marathons in the pair i'm currently using in addition to about 100 more miles. Unfortunately, i've spent all my $$ on bikes :smokin: (just had to use my fav. smile) I love your new siggie!!!!!
