Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we're a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. Some of us are training for the 2006 Disneyland Half and for the 2007 WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news/training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Happy Hurricane Season! Yep...we have our first storm, flitting about in the Gulf. Looks like another festive year.

For anyone interested in next year's Minnie, Disney Sports says it will be the first weekend in May again and they're planning to have registration up in the not to distant future.

Anyone who might be interested in group rates for their room on marathon weekend, please sign in here:
2007 WDW Marathon Weekend Group Resort Rates
Only 10 rooms are needed to book a group!

I would like to nominate Judy for the WISH team wit/humor award. Judy, I always love reading your posts! They always have me :lmao:

Jenny...it is a small world after all. There's some good kayaking down around Osprey :thumbsup2 Love the idea of the pie race...I think Sunny got a pie last year for Applefest.

MelR...looking forward to your race report!

Jackie...great time on Race for the Cure  !

Jen...I'm with you...it'd have to be pretty darn good pie for me to finish a 5K in 24 min! Congrats on the weight loss!

Cam...definitely cross-training. for your commitment to such a cool event! What do you guys get to do there?

Craig...are you watching the World Cup? DD13 was thrilled to watch Beckham bend it today.

Lynnda...sorry...we'll be at WDW the weekend before the Aquathlon for MNSSHP. I'll look forward to your report though :teeth:

Carrie...can't wait to have the shirts! Thanks for pulling it altogether! :grouphug:

Amy...did you have another race this weekend?

Colleen...what's next for you?

Kathy...how are things feeling now that you're back? How's Erin doing?

Lynne...what are you up to for summer? Classes? Clinicals?

Ouch, Maggie! Hope you find an answer to your leg problems soon!

Dave...glad to hear things are getting better for you!

Heather...good to see you again. I didn't realize you were doing the full this year...who am I going to chase in the half? ;)

Jodi... :grouphug: hope everything settles down for you soon.

Sunny...how you doin?

Krista...how are things going for you?

I had a good run today, for the first time in awhile. I've made some changes...got new shoes and a new training plan. I have a podiatry appt on Fri to see if I'm permanently damaged, but things went so well today, I'm hoping to cancel it. I took my old shoes to the shoe guy on Friday. I was diagnosed as a high-arched supinator by my first podiatrist, so have been running in cushioned shoes. Shoe Guy says either I have a mixed problem or the ASICS are actually overcorrecting based on the wear pattern on my shoes. So I've given up my beautiful purple ASICS for awhile in favor of some yellow :sunny: Mizunos that have a bit of stability and cushion.

I've also found some really fun exercises/stretches online involving frozen edamame, canned goods and a broomstick ::yes:: They really do help! My leg's better than it's been in days!

And...finally...I found a new training plan on yourungirl.com. I couldn't hack Coach Jenny's walk to run plan that started with R4/W2. I could only do 1 or 2 of those intervals before I crashed. I found a beginner's plan that starts with W6/R4 for a week. It's essentially the same pace as W3/R2, but more recovery after the running intervals. Worked beautifully today! I was able to do 3.12 and made it through ALL of the running intervals :cool1: My pace is down a lot, but I'm excited to have managed all the 4 minute runs
This plan will work up to R14/W1 just in time to start training for WDW. Should be cool :dance3:

Have a good week everyone!

Mel - Erin is doing well. Still in FL and still working FantasyLand. She normally works the closing shift.

I went for a walk yesterday afternoon. It ended up being 3 miles in 48 min (only because I ran for almost 2 min). Had to ice the foot when I got home bit it feels ok today. I need to get back into walking gradually instead of trying to walk 3 miles each weekend without building up during the week. Have been back to the gym twice. I started at KellyLyn (womens only) and have been put on a cardio routine and lower body strengthening routine. They won't do upper body until I finish PT for my right shoulder. I never rehabed it properly after last years surgery and am having pain with alot of the movement. I think I'm falling apart because of my age. :furious:

I still haven't decided which race to sign up for at WDW. :confused3 I am going to do the Army Ten Miler in DC on Oct 8 with Lynne. It starts at the Pentagon. It will show me if I am in shape for WDW in Jan.

Everyone is doing great with their training and races. I hope to be able to post some 5K races this season also. The one I thought about doing is in Syracuse but I will be in NH supporting Lynne on her second attempt to get a championship slot the the 70.3 mile race.

My cross training for today is to mow my lawn. I am hoping it is dry enough to mow, it has rained for the last 3 days. I finally quit yesterday morning and the neighbor mowed yester afternoon. I was thinking about wearing the garmin to see how far I will be walking but am not sure how it will do walking around in circles.

Everybody, have a great training or rest day.

Wow, I actually get to post today! I tried off and on all day yesterday but the boards were not smiling on me.

Mel-- glad to hear you had a good run. I second the nomination for Judy!

Judy-- I loved your link, thanks!

I think I'm on the upswing. Friday it took me 40 minutes to get out of bed. I don't mean hiting the snooze, I mean manuevering the body. But yesterday and today was a mere 5 minute process. I didn't resort to pain meds all day yesterday and really hope I can avoid them today. Today is DS's big party at the Y.

Sunny

I haven’t posted in awhile because I haven’t been very motivated. Since I’ve only done a mile or two in the last few weeks, I really didn’t have much to tell. But I keep lurking and see how hard everyone else is trying. After reading thru last night, there are so many that are having to deal with something and my achy knees or pain in the foot seemed trivial. So I decided I should get serious about training to train or 6 ½ months would fly by and I would be in a “world” of hurt. I asked for some Divine support and laid out the running gear determined to run Sunday morning. Of course, I knew the Excuse Monster (ExMon) would be after me big time….his first try to get me was that I knowingly didn’t set the alarm clock.

So this morning I open my eyes and roll over to find the clock says 5:45 AM. Oh brother, am I crazy? It’s the one morning I have all week to sleep in. I drag myself out of bed (insert lots of grumbling here) and head to the bathroom. Unfortunately, the ExMon convinces me while there that I am crazy and I dive back under the covers and go back to sleep. Well in what I am sure is part of that Divine support I asked for, about an hour later a little birdie finds the only window I had left cracked open in the bedroom. He proceeds to sit on the ledge and sing me a happy tune. A very loud one at that. What came next probably looked like the scene in Cinderella when the tower bells ring and she puts the pillow over her head. Yeah, the ExMon had a hold of my foot & was tugging hard. So I’m laying there going thru every reason in the book that I should stay right where I was and the songbirds tune goes a bit off key. I jumped up to close the window and then realized, being up I should really go out and at least do a mile or two.

I get dressed and go downstairs (insert more grumbling here). As I sit at the kitchen table trying to talk myself out of it, a thought hits me like a thunder bolt…any running done before 8 am is technically pre-morning and would be like running in your sleep. And you know that running in your sleep goes so much faster and much less painful. Sure, it sounds silly now, but to the barely conscious mind it was perfectly rational. It worked. I got up and geared up. I say geared up, because the big joke in my house is the suitcase of a waist bag I always run with (but that’s an entirely different story). Oh, the ExMon tried hard to stop me getting out the door…feed the dog before you go, unloading the dishwasher will only take a second, start a load of laundry, and so on. But each time I caught myself and brushed away the evil thoughts. So by 8:15 I was standing in the street turning on the Garmin. I think the ExMon tried to get me there too as it took what seemed to be forever to locate satellites.

But finally after fixing the MP3 ear buds, re-tying the shoe, adjusting a strap here, pulling the shorts there (& the many other pre-run twitches), I got moving. I was determined to do 3 miles. Knowing it has been awhile since I ran that far, I asked for the endurance to complete the distance. Being a turtle type, I am always less worried about speed (average 13.3) and more about finishing. The ExMon tried hard to distract me as my new ear buds kept falling out. While continuing to shuffle, I did what I am sure was a contortion routine to adjust them. May have looked silly, but it worked and I kept moving forward. The overcast skies and clean air was invigorating. A mile came quickly (see I told you running in your dreams goes faster). I walked for about 2 minutes and took a couple sips of gaterade. Determined not to give myself any chance to quit early, I kicked it back in gear. The baby ducks were swimming in the pond and it made me happy to be up early to see them. Even had a few dogs along the way bark encouragement. Of course I don’t speak dog that well, so I can only guess they were telling me to keep moving. But their tone seemed to make the intention pretty clear.

At mile 2, which also came up much quicker than I expected, I walked again for a couple minutes. Did a quick check of all the old-lady parts (knees, ankles), none of them were rebelling so decided not to let the ExMon get a chance to talk me out of another mile. In fact, I again got a little Divine support and at this point I notice that its starting to sprinkle. Well, you and I both know that sugar melts in water so I couldn’t risk being caught out in a full down pour. (Okay, I realize the Wicked Witch of the West also melted with water - so either way I’m not taking any chances.) The last mile was all about keeping the rain drops 2 inches behind me and this turtle learned to move quick. I hit mile 3 and slowed to a walk to cool down. Feeling pretty good without any really obvious pain, I said thank you for the support. Yeah, I hear runners talk to themselves all the time – of course it probably looked a little crazy that it came out loud & wasn’t in my head. But the moment it came out, a tiny bunny hops across the path, stops and looks at me as if to say “your welcome, all you have to do is ask & I’ll be there”. Not to be an overly religious zealot or anything, but what uncanny timing. Needless to say I smiled all the way home, even though I was now caught in a full drizzle and melting. Okay, that smell might have been sweat, I’ll give you that and it definitely was gone after I got in the house out of the rain (okay-okay and out of the shower). As I type this, I looked at the Garmin and it shows: mile 1 12:16, mile 2 12:09, mile 3 11:41. Holy roadrunners Batman…that’s 36:05. The fastest I’ve every done that distance. Now that is truly Divine support for a turtle like me.

And now at the end of this tale (or is that tail since I saw the rabbit), I hope I made you smile as a way to say thank you to my WISH team for the encouragement I continue to get from the posts I find here. Have a great week & keep moving forward.

Hi, everyone! Well, I am sore today, but definitely recovering from another amazing, awesome, inspiring and energizing Special Olympics experience. Yesterday, I helped move about 2000 cans of soda and bottles of water setting up for lunch, so I felt like I got some cross-training in, for sure! Mel, to answer your question, Howard and I are both on the organizing commitee for summer games, an event which serves about 1200 athletes as well as their coaches and volunteers, whose numbers are at least 1:1 and sometimes 2:1, so it is a huge, fun event. Howard takes care of all signage for the entire two days, making sure everyone knows what is going on at all the venues and how to get there, and he moves all those signs as venue uses shift. Andrew helped him Thursday, so they worked 3 days in a row. I co-chair the committee that sources, plans and executes all meals for the 2 days (though our fabulous corporate sponsor, Aramark, hardly needs our help for a couple of the meals -- they are awesome!). I think when all is said and done my committee managed over 100 volunteers for over 3000 meals, as well as refreshments for a victory party after opening ceremonies. Jenn and Andrew both worked with me Friday and Saturday. It has gotten so that the athletes recognize us and give us such HUGE smiles as they show off their medals or talk excitedly about their events. So many of them hug us and high five us -- what an extraordinary group of people! I am such a high after a weekend like this, and if I were independently wealthy, I know I'd devote lots more time and energy to the organization.

So, thanks for asking. I LOVE to talk Special Olympics.

Well, my training for DL 1/2 kicks in today. I've done a new meal grid to get "accountable" again (Sunny is going to get sick of hearing from me!) and I am creating my training calendar based on MfM. I'll be sure to check in with training updates. Thanks for being patient with me, buys. :grouphug:

OK..1st things 1st...I could do anything for pie...even a 24 min 5k! popcorn::

It got up to 105 yesterday in Charlotte, NC! And I trained ALONE! Who was slamming on me about training alone in blazing hot conditions???? Kevin????:goodvibes  :goodvibes
Krista-- On behalf of all those who trained alone every single day for thier first full marathon last year, sometimes in blazing heat, sometimes in driving snow...... no, no we don't. (Kidding, kidding)
Today doesn't feel as hot, but I haven't checked out the stats yet.....I do know it was in the 90s about 1300. Kevin..You know I am just mess'n with ya!

Melissa - :cool1: on the great finish! Cannot wait to hear ALL about it!

Sunny - So glad you are feeling better!

I biked today and averaged a 17 MPH...I know, I am so slow! But that does include stops for traffic lights and me forgetting to turn off my watch at the end. I am dripping with sweat! I think I am going to sign up for another tri...It is an International Distance, I think it is called that.....
1.5K swim
40K bike
10K run
Think that is right. I have suckered....or should I say talked into....DHs best friend into doing it with me..I am BFF with his wife so we are making a couples weekend out of it. :Pinkbounc SO EXCITED! DH couldn't say no to them!

Hello Mel

I am very flattered that you remembered my passion for the beautiful game. I did in fact watch the first 60 minutes of the England-Paraguay match yesterday morning, so I saw the Beckham ball skip off the defender's head and into his own goal.

I've watched most or all of each game so far, and the quality of the play is lights out. I especially enjoyed this morning's match when my beloved Netherlands (1/4 Dutch blood) beat Serbia in true style and in all-orange kits.

Tomorrow is the critical first match for the US, against a very skilled and powerful Czech team. My wife has convinced the resource librarian in our Finance center to turn the plasma screen on to this match at 11:55 a.m. I'll watch it at home as I couldn't possibly be in a confined space with a lot of folks when the NATS are playing. I need to be able to pace and yell at the screen, and everyone there would think I was insane.

Good form with your excellent training. Keep it going and you'll have an excellent RESULT (soccer term) in January.

Take care

Craig

Nothing worse than losing on an own goal :guilty:

My ex-H attended a Netherlands match (I think against Ireland) when the World Cup was in Orlando many moons ago.

I have been impressed with the level of play and sportsmanship thus far. I thought the flowers from the Iranian team for the Mexican keeper was a lovely gesture.

DD13 is now looking for a new Tshirt to wear during the matches. There was World Cup merchandise at EPCOT when we were there last week in Germany and the UK shops!

Thanks for all your help and support during my training! Are you working toward any particular training goals this summer?

Eric...just a thought...are you attending any of the World Cup games?

Hey Mel

Yes, if you play in the back eventually you'll end up with an own goal. Not that I remember it clearly, but mine came in October of 1975, I'm a sophomore at the University of Colorado playing left wing defender against Metro State. A cross comes in from the opposite side and our goalkeeper doesn't come off his line (ARGH!) so I try to bicycle it off the 6 yard line. Unfortunately it comes off the outside of my foot right into the upper corner of the goal. This also happens in front of my father and then-girlfriend, and a "crowd" of maybe 50 others. I look over and my dad is giving me the goat laugh. I must admit, to see world class players do the same thing in the ultimate tournament makes my mistake look pretty darn tame.

Sadly I'm injured again, the left calf again. I'm trying to build up slowly to strengthen the dumb thing so it is lots of stretching and lifting, lots of biking, some moving stairs (Dante's Inferno in my opinion), and some very light and very slow jogging, followed by ice massage. Today was a success, the best in 2 weeks, so I feel optomistic. I'm not nervous yet about the Disney marathon, but if I'm not running easy by August 1 I will get plenty nervous.

I hurt it on April 30 in a 10K, having to withdraw at 2 miles. I ran the first 2 miles quick but easy in effort, but it was too much for the calf. The last 2 10K's have both ended badly, so I suspect my races shorter than perhaps 10 miles are over forever. I know I need to take it easy given my age and muscle issues, but when the gun fires I simply cannot take my own advice and I blow up all over the course. You'd think a 49 year old man would grow up, but apparently not. Maybe in a few more months when I have that next birthday. But then again, maybe not. :teeth:

Good luck.

Craig

Mel STAY DRY!!!! My mom just moved to the keys--so a nice welcome for her.

CJ--congrats on your run. Take it one day at a time. I forget how long it takes to create a habit--but keep at it and eventually you will look forward to the workouts!

CAM--I didn't know you were involved with Special Olympics. I saw a movie (I am embarrassed to say)--it was made with the blessing of the Special Olympics and even had athletes in the movie and it was about some guy who "pretended" to be "special"--OMG aside from that storyline--the movie was very compelling with how all the athletes were there for one another. Who knew a stupid movie (which it kind of was on the dumb side for plot line)--would bring tears to my eyes. I have never seen an actual Special Olympics event. In the movie it was broadcast nationwide--I wish that was the case IRL. I would love to see the competitions. What an awesome thing you and Howard do!

Craig--sorry about your calf. Hope it gets better soon. The only calf-pain I have ever experienced were middle of the night Charlie horse's--30 seconds of pure torture. So I cannot even imagine. Hope it behaves well for your long distance endeavors this year.

I am on DIS restriction. It has been 10 days since my last log in. LOL! I will go back in purgatory, but will be back to check in.

I started my DL half training last week with a teaser week (real training starts this week). And I got a yucky cold--so I couldn't get all my workouts done. :(.

We are in Washington DC right now with hubby. (though I love my hubby--I do NOT like it up here!! I miss my F-L-O-R-I-D-A). We are here until the end of July. My training will be mostly on the treadmill in the building we are staying in.

My status for the race in September is day to day. We'll see how it goes!

We are waiting patiently for TS Alberto here. :umbrella: We really do need the rain and looks like we will be getting some over the next few days.

My attempts at wogging have been reduced to walking lately. The temps in the mid 90º range with humidity have been too much for me so it's been walking, swimming in the noodle soup that is our pool, and some cross training. I think it will stay that way for me for most of the summer. I may try and move the walking indoors but I really hate do do that even if my pace ends up slower. I'd much rather be outside.

I have to go back now and catch up on last week's posts. Seems like everyone has been busy.

Hey guys! Had a bunch of catching up to do.

Mel: No races this weekend....but i have my trail run coming up in a few weeks :). Thanks for asking! Your new run/walk plan sounds really good...I wish you tons of PD as you embark on it. I know you'll do great!

Cam: Wow...loved to hear about your Special Olympics weekend! That is so awesome!!!!! :grouphug: Glad you had a great time! I'm really impressed with you...never fail to amaze me :).

Craig: Soooo sorry to hear about your calf again :(. That totally stinks. Pixie Dust that it heals super quick!!!!!

Christa: Slow on a bike??? NO way girl...you rock!!! I'm so impressed with your running pace too! WTG!!!

Sunny: Continuing to think about you as you overcome all the obstacles that have been thrown in your path these past few months. I know you are going to come back stronger and better than ever!!! :grouphug: Hang in there, okay!!!!!

As for me....did a really tough KBX class the other night and am still sore in just about every muscle I can feel LOL! Today I managed to get out and do my 6 mile LR for the week. Came in at 64:53 so I'm pretty happy since I took it nice and easy...just enjoyed the rare beautiful weather we're having here in NJ :sunny: .

Pixie Dust and good thoughts :goodvibes to everyone dealing with injuries right now. My heart goes out to you all!!!!!

Sunny - Good luck with your recuperating. Sending :wizard: your way!

Carrie - Thanks for handling the shirt orders!

CJ - Loved your "tale". Keep that ExMon at bay!

Craig - bummer about your calf. Hope it's feeling better soon.

Cam - Great job with the Special Olympics. Glad you had a great time!

Nancy - I know you guys need the rain, but be safe with TS Alberto. Sending good thoughts your way.

Lisa - I can sympathize with you on your cold. I've been fighting onoe all week. Feel better soon.

Well, Mom and I got through my aunt's funeral last week. Mom held up better than I expected, although the really tough part will happen now. Mom and her sister used to talk to each other on the phone every night. Now that doesn't happen. Mom's trying to get back in gear, but it's hard on her.

Of course, it didn't help that we both came down with colds last week. I'm better today and did get some short workouts in yesterday and today. Trying to let my body fight it off w/o taking any meds (other than Tylenol or Alleve).

Now I'm having some foot pain. It's weird though. It doesn't bother me when I run/walk. It's a pain along the blade of my foot. If I'm sitting and have the weight of my foot on my toes or if I rotate my ankle and have my toes pointed (kinda like stretching the foot) I get a pain along the blade. Hasn't hampered my workouts though. I don't know if its from my new running shoes or not. Always seems if it's not one thing, it's another  I hope this isn't an omen for the rest of the year.

Does anyone know what the weather will be like for the DL 1/2? I know it'll warmer than the 30 degrees we had in WDW this year, but not sure what the temps will be like in CA at 6 AM.

Lots of :grouphug:

I have been just lurking lately. Since I have a been a lazy-butt, I feel like I can't really post here. Kind of like my punishment! I have been bad and not exercising lately - the excuse being my darn toenail drama. I don't want to be too TMI - so let's just say things are still hanging around. :rolleyes1

We did sign up FIL for the 1/2 as his Father's Day present though! He keeps toying with the idea of doing it, and I promised I would stay in the back of the pack with him. Shoot - that's where I am going to be anyway!

I hereby promise to try to do something today...

Good morning everyone!! Stephen and I got back from DC last night (too bad I didn't know you were there Lisa, we could have had a mini meet) for Stephen's sister's (Brenda) wedding. It was a neat wedding, Brenda's husband is Chinese--like he was born in China Chinese, and a lot of his family still live in Taiwan, so the wedding had a lot of Chinese touches. The reception was pretty cool too, Brenda and Andrew who both swing dance, had a swing instructor come and teach everyone how to swing dance while they were getting their pictures taken and then all the music at the reception was swing music and we all knew how to swing dance (well sort of :teeth: ). The food at the reception was....interesting, it was a traditional 10 course Chinese wedding feast, some of the entrees were jellyfish, crab soup with shark fin, squid, squab (they said similar to a pigeon), albamone (similar to a clam), and lobster. I don't eat seafood, so Stephen and I hit a McDonald's drive thru on the way back to the hotel. The wedding was very nice and interesting to see the 2 cultures come together. Washington DC was neat too, we got to see quite a bit, but I wish we had time to see more. We saw the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam Wall, and the White House (very cool to see the snipers walking around on the roof top of the White House). Yesterday we went to Arlington Cemetery, but we didn't get to spend much time there because we had to catch our flight, but we did get to see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers, the changing of the guard, and Kennedy's grave. We got to see Iwo Jima from the road, but we didn't have time to go up to it, I was disappointed about that, but we didn't have time to see it. We're definitely going back to DC, there was just too much we missed. And I'm definitely taking my running shoes into the city with me, I was so jealous seeing all the runners running on the National Mall. How cool would it be to run from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial? Or past the White House every day? I did get 3 miles in Saturday morning, but it was on the treadmill at the hotel, so boring, but I got my steps in!

Terri--Continued :grouphug: for your family, especially your Mom.

Mel--Your yellow Mizunos sound like fun! My shoes are boring: blue and green and clodhoppers! But they do the job, so I won't complain. I saw all the World Cup stuff in the UK and Germany, I wanted to buy one in Germany to run in (they are cool max) because I'm of German descent and I thought it would be cool, but I was afraid someone would try to talk to me about soccer and I don't follow soccer at all. I know who Beckham is, but that's about it!!

Craig--Hope that your calf heals. :wizard:

Sunny--I'm so glad that you are feeling better and that your body is starting to heal. How did the party go?

Christa--You sound pretty darn fast to me! Stephen is going to be so jealous that you are doing an International distance tri, he REALLY wants to do one of those.

I'd love to talk some more, but I do need to get started on my work (I've been here over an hour and I haven't really started anything yet), I was off Friday, so I have quite the stack here. Happy training today!!

Good morning all!!

Look at all that happens when you go away for a few days!!

Jenny-- Welcome!!!! Glad to have you join us!!

Christa-- You know, it's actually been quite chilly here, at least for June. Mind you, I am NOT complaining. I live in Michigan.. I reserve all of my weather complaining for the winter.

Kristi-- OCEAN CITY!?!?!?! I am SO jealous!!!! I'm having flashbacks from every childhood summer vacation we basically ever took.... J.R.'s Ribs, Phillips'; Jolly Roger, Old Pro Golf, Candy Kitchen. :goodvibes

Krista-- Having been a (mostly) lifelong Washingtonian, I can honestly say that running around the Mall never gets old. When I worked downtown for a while, I used to jog around there after work before heading home. It was nice except for the summer, when it was always miserably humid. Sigh.... Now I miss home. :guilty:

Pat-- I know this is from last week's thread, but I think you can be just fine for the full provided you put the time in to training. For me personally, I like the idea of including jogging segments in with your walking from time to time to keep ahead of the sweepers, but that's just me. If you can walk a consistant 14 minute mile, you should be fine. You can definately do this!! :teeth:

Now, about those bathrooms.... :teeth: During the full, you will find "real" bathrooms in Epcot-- depending on your course, it could be in Future World or World Showcase (roughly miles 2-4); the Magic Kingdom-- Fantasyland and Fronterland for sure (miles 10-11); Animal Kingdom-- DinoRama section (mile 17??); the MGM Studios-- not sure exactly where, but there has to be one somewhere (mile 22-23) and Epcot again (miles 25 and 26). There's obviously not much outside of the parks. If you are worried about getting swept, use a portable before the start and hold it until at least the MK. During the full, there was a line at the Morocco women's room when I ran by prior to mile 3. Hope that helps!

OK, for my training... Thursday and Friday I did a couple of light 2 milers in addition to my gym workouts. Friday's was interesting as I set out to just walk 2 miles at a good pace, but then decided to run back. I went out in 14:25 and back in 7:56! :thumbsup2 I was pretty pleased.

Saturday and Sunday I did back to back 5Ks... Saturday, I finished in 28-something for a 9:07/mile pace :cool1: Sunday, well..... I chose a tougher course and just felt blah, but I managed to get it in... 30:-something and 9:54/mile pace. I really had to push toward the end to get it under 10:00 miles, but I managed. This morning I took a much deserved morning off. I still have to do my workout in the gym, but hey-- I got to sleep in past 6:30!!

Well, I better head back to work... it's the week before vacation, so twice as much to do!

Happy training!!
Kevin (Solotraveler) :earsboy:

Greetings TEAM:

I wanted to ask you all for some advice. I'm considering entering an event, but am worried about being a real phoney. Here in New York they have the Empire State Games, a yearly multi-sport event for amateur athletes, patterned after the Olympic program. Athletes must be residents of the State of New York. Following competition (Regional Trials) in each of six regions of New York State, winners numbering some 6,000 will participate in finals competition. I just found out this weekend that the finals are here in Rochester this year at the end of July.

They have a master's division with a 10K road race. There is no qualifying standard for the 10K race, but many sports do have qualifying standards. I could enter the 10K race, I'd get a team sweatsuit for my region of western NY, and I could even march in the opening ceremonies. This is where I would feel like a fraud. It is very possible and likely that I would be among the last place finishers of the 10K, and with my shins, I'm not even running right now. However, I always thought it would be so cool to be in an "Olympic" like event. I love the idea of the family watching me in the opening ceremonies. And it's right here in my home town.

What do you all think? Should I enter?
