Carrie:
In order to run faster, you must run faster.
Wise words, of course. Along with "Where ever you go, there you are." One hundred "You are a child of the 80s" points to whoever gets that film reference. Those points are redeemable for nothing but a few snickers, of course, and I'm not talking about the candy bars.
Aloha Jeff: So what made you decide to start training with Guru Les, if you were in your comfort zone? Was it a desire to run faster? Yay for your waiver coming--NOW you can sneak away from paradise and get a solid month of race training in at DL. Nothing like running the real course and knowing those conditions. Plus, it's Disney.
Bill: "Just wait and see" how things turn out after an accident? That's what the doctors said about my accidents (had two baby teeth knocked back in a car accident) and look how I turned out! Well, the teeth are okay, but...

Well, at least Timmy seems like the kind of kid to take everything in stride. (Which probably means one thing to me and send out big warning flags to you as a parent.) You're doing 14 miles in the middle of the summer, in FL? Is there an upcoming event? Is this your base?
I'm glad you asked me about how my shoulder injury affected the ice cream getting to my mouth. It didn't, thank goodness, but IF I was ever injured to that point....I'd have to rely on old of my trust fallbacks, the milkshake. Ice cream through a bendy straw. Ahhhhh, does it get any better than that? Maybe while lounging in a hammock. And how do people feel about malteds?
Howard: So you're doing 1/2 marathon at 3rd week of September, full at the end of October, full at the 3rd week of November, and the Goofy in January. (Okay, so this is the first time I tried processing this information.) Can I ask about your recovery and preparation between the MCM and Philly? Are you going to treat MCM as a training LR, Philly as an easy run, going all-out for both, or something in between?
FWIW, I'm generally curious as to how people plan to do 1/2 or fulls when the races are sort of close together. All input welcome!
Racey Tracey: I read about the ice on Mars news. I'm almost embarrassed to admit how cool I thought that was. Made me want to pull out
The Martian Chronicles and reread it. (Okay, I'm a geek.) Thanks for clarifying the status of Garmi's gender. Wouldn't want to offend her if I ever meet her, you know! I hadn't thought about how a running skirt would like my middle. Maybe it's not a good idea that they start a relationship!

My main thought is, as it always is, about pockets for my stuff. And long lengths to cover my Macbook leg burns. (Vanity, I know.) One of the things I note about your post is how often you're training in inclement weather, even with thunder and lightning. Very brave of you, I think, even if the view is gorgeous. The other thing I notice is the ice cream, of course. Kindred spirits, we are. And it's been far too long since I've had hard-shell ice-cream topping.
Kristi: I realize you probably won't get this message this weekend, but have a great time in Williamsburg sightseeing, walking/running/wogging, and just in general!
Vic:
It's great to see you. Your talk about stadium runs always makes me feel like such a slacker. (So why is it great to see you again? Oh, yea, because you're a member of the Mickey Mouse Club--and we like you!)
Cam: Jeff, your PT, is definitely impressed with you and likes you as a client. I overheard one PT at my gym telling one of his clients that, if he has an session open up, he calls only those people he feels are really committed to meeting their goals. Sure, maybe the PT was blowing smoke, but I think there's truth to it, too. I'm glad you chose the rest day, though, because you deserve it and your body needs it.
Today's shout-out: Morgan, are you still quick like a bunny?
Stacie:
You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face...You must do the thing you think you cannot do. -Eleanor Roosevelt
Or as Yoda says, "Do or not do. There is no try." A very wise woman offered this quote to the board recently. I sure do admire her.

I just love feeling the good vibes in your posts.
As for me: XT today, including my new obsession, the virtual cycle machine. I'm still slow and being passed by those blankety-blank virtual riders, but liking it. I'll be doing some real bike riding this weekend, but for pleasure. And a LR, which I hope will be pleasurable or at least satisfying after the fact. I'm going to try a new route, and hope to remember to bring a camera (following
Lily's suggestion).
Today's incident report: A run-in with my ever-so-brave cat, who made her first exploration of the hallway below our apartment floor. She snuck down there early, early this morning. She disoriented herself and got too frightened to come back up. So I rescued her from her own bravery and, as a reward, received several puncture wounds in my upper arm. (I would call it my bicep, but, well...

) Now my arm looks like I've had a date with a half-blind Dracula who missed my neck. Somebody tell me why I own cats again?
