Wk of July 1--WISH Walking/Running Club

Good morning everyone. Hopefully I can get back into the swing of things this week.

Ran 3 miles on the TM this morning. 2% incline @ 4.5.

I decided to try the arch support insoles in my Gel Kayanos. Not good. I ended up having to change shoes after ½ a mile, and it wasn’t because of my sore foot. It was the other. Put on my Gel Nimbus’ and finished the run with no other issues.

Mel – The foot is feeling pretty good. It still reminds me we have issues, but nothing like before. Great job with the run.

Leana – WTG with the 10 miler.

Krista – Great job with the run, and welcome to the Asics club. How’s Hines?

Nancy – WTG with the training!

Stephanie – WTG with the 9 miler.

Jen – Have a great day.

MSDave – Congrats with the 10 miler.

Denny – Wa’sup?

Colleen – WTG with the 10 miler.

WWDave – Good luck tomorrow.

Kim – WTG with the 9K.

Kelley – Hope your foot gets to feeling better.

Jackie – Hope you had fun at the race.

Welp, time to get settled in for the Nextel Cup race this afternoon. GO DALE JR.!! :thumbsup2

Morning folks! I just got home from volunteering at the HBC Run for Canada Day. What an awesome event!! I was at one of the water stops. All the speedy folks ran by without taking any water, they were going so fast! The race is really neat - everyone gets a unique shirt with their race number on it, instead of a bib. The race benefits Canada's Olympic athletes, so all the athletes out had special shirts, most with their names and their sport on it. How cool! Then when you cross the finish line the athletes were handing out the medals. I would have loved to run this one (participated last year in Vancouver), but I didn't think it was the best timing wise for me, but I will definitely try and do it next year. As a volunteer we did get really cool tech shirts which is a definite bonus!

Mel - :wizard: PD for your foot. 91% humidity?? Gross!!
Krista - Yay for your new shoes!! I'm an Asics 2100 series girl, but next time I'll look into those Kayanos.
Kim - Happy Canada Day to you too! Great Western is from Sask - love their honey brown! Way to go on you 9K.
Jen - Yup, next weekend is my first ever half. Nervous!! :scared1:
MSDave - Way to go on those 27 miles!!
Denny - Good luck with your move!
Colleen - Have fun at your Canada Day pool party! Were you still heading up north for a vacation this summer?
WWDave and Erica - I'm glad to hear you guys are having such a wonderful, inspiring time at the Senior Games!!
TnTsParty - Here's hoping your legs aren't so sore tomorrow!
Stephanie - Good job on getting your 9 miles in. Hope work goes OK for you today!
Kelley - :wizard: PD for your foot!
Jackie - 100 crunches after getting home at 1:30 am? Wow, you go girl!
Vic - Too bad about those Kayanos!

OK, I have major housework to do. Guess I'd better get on with it!

Kristi - Just saw when I logged on the computer this morning that the GGD are coming here on the 15th. Want to come to the hotter, more humid south?
I wish I could! I said awhile ago that I could make the rounds to all my fellow WISHers and chase the Goos around the country! I am seeing them on the 22nd & 25th, so I guess I will somehow live. Hmmm...still no reports from Carrie on her mission of Goo-watching.

My throat is worse. It is so swollen, we can't even see if there are white patches back there. And my Mom who usually thinks I am a baby about medical things is after me to go to the ER. I'd prefer to wait until tomorrow and not have a $50 ER co-pay, but we'll see...

Leana
- I hope you are not so sore today.

Mel - baby crocs?! Those pics wouldn't freak me out. Just another reason I don't move to FL, I suppose.

Sunny
- I hope you are hanging in there!

Tiffany
- still thinking of you & Rick alot. I hope you are still able to get some walking in.

Happy Canada Day!

I know I missed some people - my brain is still kind of foggy - sorry!

Hey everybody--I hope everyone is having an awesome weekend! I actually got out this morning and did 6 miles. That is the first time in a very long time that I have run over 5 miles. I think I am finally getting back on track to get ready for my official marathon training plan which will start in September.

I also really want to try to get back to keeping up with the weekly thread. Now that my school year is over, and I am starting my Part-time summer camp job, I should have much more time to spend on the Disboards!! :cool1:

Happy Canada Day! to all the Canadians!

Vic--Dale Jr looks good so far today...hope that keeps up.

Leana--sounds like a great race that you volunteered at today! Good Luck in your half next week, you are going to do awesome!!

Kim--Great job on your 9k! We are keeping a watch on the free agent day also, as big NJ Devils fans, we are hoping that Scott Gomez doesn't leave!!

Kelley--Sorry to hear about the foot troubles. Hang in there! :wizard:

WWDave--The senior Olympic Games sound awesome! Enjoy the rest of your time there, and Good LUck in your events!

MSDave and princessmomma--Great job on your 10 milers!!

Sorry to anyone I missed! Time to get back to watching the Nascar race!!!

Hi everybody!:wave2:

I've been MIA for awhile. Still no training. Have not even gotten to the pool yet. I really hope to do something this week. But my countdown is on. I'm hoping that in 30 days the Dr. says can resume normal training.

Been busy with work and had some kitchen work done in the house, so I've been cleaning up there, too.

Leanna, Colleen and Stephanie - great job on you lr's.

Kristi and Mel - Hope you're feeling better soon. Sending :wizard: your way!

Krista - glad you found running shoes you like. I'll be shopping for new ones soon. Dr. said I need a motion control shoe. Anyone have any suggestions?

WWDave - Good luck with the 5K tomorrow!

Terri

That's a great pace you have found yourself in Dave. That is my goal pace for mid-length runs. I got 10 miles in this morning in about 1:42. Miles 1-4 felt great, 5-7 were a struggle and the last 3 were good again. :confused3
1 - 9:10
2 - 9:49
3 - 10:08
4 - 10:00
5 - 10:30
6 - 11:10 Really wanted a GU here, but couldn't stomach the thought.
7 - 10:30
8 - 10:38
9 - 10:35
10 - 9:45

At what mileage do you start consuming gels? I can't remember if I started taking gels at 12 mile runs or longer?
Hi Colleen- I take my GUs every 4 miles. So I usually start taking GUs for anything 8 miles or longer. I take 1 GU for an 8 mile run (at mile 4), and I take 2 for a 10 mile run (at mile 4 and 8). It's a habit that works for me.

That's exactly what I do, except I start at anything over 7 miles, especially if it's hot that day. By the way, Dave, thanks for giving me your extra GU after the Pig. That's all I use now, a thousand times better than trying to eat 1/2 of a Clif bar while running. :thumbsup2

Good evening everyone! I've spent the last 2 days doing lots and lots of chores. When I'm home alone, that's what I seem to do. All these things need to be done and since I'm the only one here, I get the pleasure of doing them all.

Yesterday I did get in a 50 min run which wasn't the best but it was 50 minutes. I don't know why it wasn't so great; the weather was really nice so I don't have that as an excuse. I did get out to see Ratatouille and I highly recommend it. It was a lot of fun and thoroughly enjoyable.

Today I also got in a 30 minutes cardio circuit plus weight work. That was followed by mowing the yard, washing the cars cleaning the bathrooms, grocery shopping, laundry and packing. Uh huh--do I know how to party or what!?!

Vic: sorry to hear the gels didn't work out. What are you going to try next?

Terri: keep up posted on what the doc says. I'll keep my fingers crossed that he gives you the green light.

MSDave: great job on the run this morning but sorry the middle part wasn't so good.

hockeygirl: what training plan will you be using for your marathon training? I still need to come up with some sort of plan. Have no clue what I'm going to do yet and am looking for input.

Leana: the event sounds awesome!! And how great that the athletes who benefit from it handed out the medals. I really would be fun to do sometime!

KelNottAt: sorry to hear about the foot issues. I hope the doc will give you a referral. Mine won't. She can only refer to other harvard vangard docs and they do not have a podiatrist. Hence, no referral. All my visits to the podiatrist come out of my pocket. Isn't this a great health care system or what!?!

nucpharm29: "...going to save the world one Viagra at a time..."?? Did I miss something?

If I missed someone, I do apologize. I am flying to CO for the 4th of July weekend. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes for the Leadville Heavy Half marathon. If my sister doesn't pummel me into the ground for "making" her do this with me, I'll give you all a full report! If I don't get on here before I leave, have a great 4th of July everyone!! Watch those sparklers...

This week already looks like it will be difficult to keep up. :)

I got my "LR" in yesterday night. It wound up being 4 miles because the legs were starting to get sore. Although this morning they felt fine so I have no idea what is wrong with them. I also did the cross training today of going 2 miles while mowing the yard before the rain came. The rain held off but the lightening was fun to watch while mowing. Lynnda has some odd comments about that but I won't post them since they might be considered non-family oriented. :rolleyes1 I also got the laundry cross-training in yesterday but even with carrying kids in the basket, I don't think it will count much.

Vic - Sorry about the race but at least he looked better than in previous weeks. Glad you were able to find a combination of shoes that worked.

Colleen - I usually start Gu's when the runs are around 8 miles. Depending on the length, I usually take them around 4.5-5, 9-10,14,17-18,20-21, and 23-24. This usually depends on the heat and how I happen to be feeling on the runs.

Krista - Glad you were able to find a shoe that feels good. Hope it continues to work out for you.

Kristi - Why don't you ask to get an assignment to follow the GGD's around the country and do a big report on them. That way everything would be work related and you couldn't be accused of stalking. ;)

Martha - We have some chores you can do if you run out. :lmao: Hope you have a good vacation and are able to keep Craig from getting in too much trouble out there.

Terri - Hope the doctor will give you a favorable report. Good luck with finding time to start training.

Laurie - Hope you have a fun time this summer at camp. Not sure I could spend that much time with kids.

Leana - Great job on the run, those are great times. Glad you had a good time volunteering at the race. Sorry you couldn't participate in it though.

Any of the Canadian crew - Time to show my ignorance, but what is Canada Day?

Jackie - Just rub it in with the nice weather. Maybe I will try to blow some of this humidity a little north. ;)

Kelley - Hope you are able to find something out with your foot. Congrats on getting the steps in though even though it hurts.

Stephanie - Great job on the 9 miles, that is a great time. I think I may just ignore the Viagra comment for now...

Mel - We had 100% humidity according to the local guy here. It felt like it too. Make sure you keep all those alligators on your side of the state. I do quite well with the rabbits that I see and don't think I need any encouragement from reptiles.

Nancy - Glad to see you back on the boards. You can keep your rats over with you as well. ;) Hope your knees are feeling better.

MSDave - Glad you were able to get your run in yesterday. That is a great time to do it in. Our local running groups usually consider the running season from August/September to May. Although if you train for the MCM in 2008, it wouldn't be that difficult to keep in shape for WDW.:rolleyes1

Denny - Sorry to hear you aren't getting the training that you want. However all that extra work will count as good cross training. I know that I don't want to go through that again for a long time.

WWDave - Good luck with your competitions tomorrow. Hope you are able to smoke everyone or at least be able to beat any 101 year old walkers. ;)

I think I had better get back to some last minute chores before another feeding comes up. Time just goes by way too fast when Timmy is asleep.:lmao:

Bill

Hey Big Vic - go Jr - good to see he finished in 4th (too bad Gordon finished 2nd yuck!!)

Ok had to get that off my chest!! LOL I was able to get my dh to the running store today and he got fitted for a pair of shoes. We ended up going out for a 1 mile walk (even though he wanted to push me and make me run) He is almost comitting to the 5 k in the end of July so I will just have to see how he does in the next weeks (he used to run distance in high school) My legs were killing me though. The lady at the running store thinks I just need to stretch the calves some more.

Here's to another week!! Thankfully this week has a break in the middle.

Hello Gang

I am here in Boulder, settled in my apartment. I had planned to get a bike and weight workout in today, but carrying a car load of clothes and electronics up to the room (thank heavens there was an elevator), and then carrying a car load of household stuff from target and groceries pretty much did me in. Hopefully I'll get out early tomorrow.

My drive was uneventful but wicked long. 1040 miles day 1, spent the night in Ottawa, Illinois, then 950 miles day 2, spent 3 nights with the in-laws in Ft. Collins.

On my second morning in Colorado I hit the track at CSU pretty early, and amazingly the altitude didn't do me in. I felt a bit wifty in the first mile, and I tried to take it easy, but by mile 2 I felt pretty strong and steady. I ran a bit over 5 miles at 9:37 per mile, and I'll call that a victory at 5000 feet any day. Boulder has a huge running community, and my goals for my 7 weeks here are to drop 5 more pounds and get a lot more fit. The Boulder Creek path is a couple of blocks from the apartment, and in my dreams I'll soon be able to run it as far up the canyon as the path goes. Of course, I don't know how far up it goes, so I may be dreaming about an impossible task or perhaps a piece of cake.

I have learned in the last few days that I have gone totally soft. I always fancied myself a Bilbo Baggins, ready at a moment's notice to run off on a crazy adventure, preferably long, and with Goblins and Dragons waiting for me along the adventure. I do think that was once true, but I guess time has caught up with me. I miss my home, my lovely wife, my daughter (who starts work tomorrow!!), my 2 kitties, my home again, and everything else. I knew I'd miss them but I figured being back home, teaching at the alma mater, and all the other cool stuff would soften that a bit. Wrong. I've been gone 5 days and I'm lonely and home sick. That is either a statement about what a wimp I've become, or what a lovely life we've built. Hopefully more the latter.

Martha arrives Wednesday, so hopefully I'm tough enough to survive 7 whole days without her. Oddsmakers have me at 36% for that.

Bill - I'm not Canadian (eh?), but I can pretend. Canada Day is also called Confederation Day, the anniversary of the creation of the Confederation of Canada with its 10 Provinces and 3 Territories (I had to look up that part). Canada is 140 years old today (I didn't have to look that up!). Congratulations to our Maple Leaf friends. Trick question for everyone: What is the national game of Canada. Hint: it isn't ice hockey. Think of a native american game played long before the Europeans arrived.

I know I am hopelessly behind the times. I'll try to catch up. For my friends in the hot and humid south and upper midwest, it was 95 here today. Of course, with no humidity it will be below 60 if I get out before 6:30 tomorrow morning. Don't hurt me, those are just the facts.

Best to all

Craig

Martha--I am using the Hal Higdon marathon training plan. I will probably stick with his novice plan, however, I might try the intermediate plan. I still have a few weeks to decide. I used his Half marathon training plan and I really liked it.

Bill--Since I don't have my own kids yet, I love working with kids every day, however, once I have my own children, I will probably take my summer's off to have a little break!!

Craig--I believe Lacrosse is the national sport of Canada.

Now if I can just convert some of you guys to racewalking.
Dave and Erica:hippie:
When we get to meet up I'll have you give me some lessons and see how it goes...I think it is a lot more detailed than putting one foot in front of the other and I just can't even seem to get that.

Craig, it is good to know you've made it safely and with enough wind power to run around a lot! Martha will be there soon, she gets to fly so real soon.

Terri, good luck with things.

I've read all, but already am behind.

Please don't forget to get your events on The Calendar so we can cheer on the team!

Happy training to all! and to all a good night!

In honor of WWDave's big event today, I submit the following joke for your perusal:

Jesus was golfing one day with a threesome. Jesus hit a towering tee shot that hit the fairway short of a water hazard just in front of the green. His ball began to bounce towards the water and, upon reaching it, continued bouncing across the top of the water and came to rest a few inches from the hole.

Moses was next to tee off and he hit a low, hard shot that also landed just short of the water. As the ball began to roll towards the water hazard, the water parted and the ball rolled through the bottom of the pond, up the bank on the other side and stopped about a foot from the hole.

The third player hit a high, long drive that travelled through the air over the green and past some trees behind it. The ball landed on the roof of the club house, rolled into the gutter and went down the down spout. As it came out, a nearby frog swallowed the ball. A hawk immediately swooped down, grabbed the frog in its talons and flew off. While airborn, the frog began to kick the hawk and the hawk dropped the frog. The frog plummetted down and fell onto the green. Upon hitting the ground, the ball became dislodged from the frog's mouth, rolled across the green and dropped into the hole.

Moses looked at Jesus and said: "You know, I really hate golfing with your father."

Sorry, that is all I've got for now. I did, however, want to WISH everyone a small miracle today.

Wow, one day and I am behind already! At least I am here and reading!

I did get out tonight and actually did some wogging, which, for me is an accomplishment. Even if most of it was on the downhill parts of my walk! I was just trying to get my feet moving at the speed they were going last night on the gazelle. It also helped that I went out after the storms today so it was much cooler out than the other day. The best part is that I am starting to get back into some kind of training routine again instead of the all or nothing system I seem to have been into lately.

It is good to be back here again and to see everybody still here!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

OK, yesterday was chore day mow lawn, laundry, run errands, etc. Now I want to catch up with my teammates a little. I hope all our Canadian friends had a great Canada Day.

Sunny- As always, sending out good WISHes. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Mel- Wow, 76 degrees and 91% humidity at 6:30am!?! Whoa. Great job getting your steps done in those conditions. Awwww, I want to see the baby gator picture.

Leana- Great job on your 10 miler this weekend. Wow, the Canada Day race sounds like a great event. Personalized shirts with your number on them. Olympic athletes handing out medals at the end. How Cool!

Krista- Whoo hooo, congrats on the new shoes. Hmmm, Kayanos huh? I might have to try those on. I wanted to get new shoes yesterday, but the store closed before I could get the errands done. Hopefully, I can make it today. Great job getting your 6 miles in. It's cool to see you so excited to get out there and go again. I'm glad the GU worked out for you. They really seem to work for me. Is Steve still doing the 1/2 Clif bars?

Jen- How's your PF today? Hope you're doing well.

Hello Denny- Good luck with the packing and the big move.

Colleen- Great job with your 10 miler too. Looks like we're on the same training schedule. Although I'm taking a step back week this week to rest up for my 15K on Sunday.

WWDave- Congrats again on your top 10 1500m finish. I like your comment about the WISH shirt containing the positive energy from the team. You are absolutely correct. Good luck with the 5K today.

Kim- Nice job on the 9K. Where in Ontario are you anyway? As far as hockey free agency goes, all I can say is uuuugggggh. We lost both our co-captains; both Drury and Briere have left the Sabres, uuggh.

TnTsParty- Oh, thank you for your kind words on my training. You'll get there too. Just gotta keep putting the steps in. Last year at this time I couldn't run at all. Good for you for getting your 1 mile walk in - stretch those calves.

Stephanie- Wow, your pace is absolutely incredible - 8:39 mpm for 9 miles. I WISH I could get down there. I'm working on it though. Thanks for saving the world one Viagara at a time.

Kelley- It's good to hear from you again. Uuugh, I'm sorry you're having so much foot trouble. Hang in there. I'm WISHing you well.

Jackie- Good for you for getting your crunches in. Did you have fun at the race?

Vic- Nice job on the 3 miles. WTG!

Kristi- How are you feeling? I hope the swelling in your throat has gone down. Did you end up going to the ER yesterday?

Laurie- Great job on the 6 miles. WTG!!!

Terri- It's good to hear from you too! WISHing you well in your recovery.

Martha- Wow, you've been busy. Chores, 50 min run, cardio circuit, going to see Ratatouille. Whooo weeee, I thought you were supposed to be partying it up with Craig out of town. Is the Leadville Heavy Half Marathon this weekend? Good luck, and have fun!!! What beautiful country. Go up Mosquito Pass for me...

Bill- Great job with your 4 miler. WTG!

Craig- Thanks for checking in! Great job on your run with altitude.

Hello Lily!

Nancy- Good for you for getting your steps in.

OK, I have to go to work today - so time to get ready.

Morning team. Not sure what's on my plate today. I'm a little sore from yesterday--not injury sore, the you did 9 miles yesterday sore. So, I think I might do a little xt on the elliptical and then some weights. Then I've got more xt to do--the Target kind, and then I have to head to the running store to register DH and I for the 5K on Wed.

Krista--glad you got some new shoes! I need to get a pair, but food is a higher priority right now:rolleyes:

Martha--sorry the comment on Vigara wasn't clear--I was just alluding to my pharmacy trade, not the streetcorner varieity.:rotfl2:

Craig--glad you made it to Colorado safely. sorry about the homesickness. And no, I don't think it's b/c you're a wimp! I completely understand. DH was transferred to NE Wisconsin about a year and a half after we were married, and I was so excited to experience a new area. But after 6 months, I was ready to go home--but I had to stick it out for 4 years, however our 2 wonderful kids were born there so not a total bad experience. Great job on the run--that pace is great at any altitude, but especially up where you are!

Happy Canada Day to our neighbors to the north! (Thanks to Craig for our history lesson today) Oh, and maybe curling is the national sport of Canada?

Have a great Monday all!

Good Morning team....WOW while I was watching fire works last night you all got chatty I hope I don't miss anyone.

CraigYou got it right and yes Lacrosse is our national sport. Glad you are all settled in and had a safe journey.

Big Vic WTG with training

Leana Glad you enjoyed your volunteering event. We almost went up to Barrie to take part, they where taking race day registrations but it just didn't work out.

Kevin I am fully registered for the Scotia 1/2 now....yikes.....no backing out now.

Kristi Hope you are feeling better today

Laurie Doesn't look like either of us got what we wanted yesterday. I was so sure I was going to buy a Ryan Smyth jersey today. Oh well another year the Leafs do nothing.....Go Calgary Go.!!!!!

Martha WTG on the workouts!!!! Safe Trip and have a awesome time

BillWTG on all the cross training:)

TnTHope your legs are better today

PerfectmatchWTG on getting that workout in.

DaveYa I couldn't believe Drury and Briere wouldn't stay in Buffalo, what a great few seasons they have had. I had fears we would get Briere, I wasn't a big fan of his but really liked Drury, I could have handled seeing him in a leafs jersey. Hey why doesn't anyone want the leafs players.....hahahahha....wait I can answer that one:lmao:

StephanieWAhoo on the 9m, I was sore last night from only doing 9K.

Today is a rest day, but since we have today off for Canada Day yesterday it will be doing all the things I have put off since about last Thursday so I better get to it.

What day or days do Americans usually get off for Independance Day when it falls midweek???

Have a awesome day all.

Kim

I'm still here!

We enjoyed the NASACAR race yesterday. We'll be at the NH track in Sept.

I'm getting my money's worth out of my TM. It has turned out to be a life saver. My speed is increasing but I haven't done any runs longer than 8 miles since I ditched VT.

I'm eagerly (and frightfully) awaiting my spinal cord stimulator "test drive" next week.

I'll keep you posted.

I can't run during the test drive (5 days). If I get the real thing, I won't be able to run for at least 6 weeks. I hope it doesn't interfere with WDW '08.

Sunny

Sunny - I hope teh sitimulator works, but 6 weeks off??? Yikes! WIll you be able to XT?

Stephanie - Wow! Great run!

Krista - Can't wait to run today??? That's awesome!!!

Mel - Yikes on the heat!!! Funny, I was scrapping teh amrathon oand found the hourly weather printout. It hit 92%. NO wonder we were dying. Good job taking it easy on yourself.

Craig - :grouphug: Martha will be out soon! And WISH team rarely moves. :goodvibes

Sorry, I missed a ton. My brain is tired.

Well, I had a 4-mile stonker on Saturday. Was supposed to be cool, and it was cold in the house (without A/C), so I didn't ake water or my sponge. Yeah, well, the weather people lied! My pace stunk and my legs were dead and I had a headache the rest of the way. I do need to remind myself that at least I'm not in pain. (WHile I was faster when I was in pain, it was a little much for me to handle.) Also, need to remind myslef that while it's nowhere near the pace I had, some people woul dstill be happy to be at that pace. ALso, 2 years ago, I had not run more than 4 minutes at a time. I would have been coming up to my first 2-ile all run on Saturday. SO, I should not complain.

Scheduled fro 50 minutes tonight. Temps shoudl be good. Let's hope they're right!
