Wk of Jul 9--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Thanks, everyone, for asking about Andy. Howard has seen him (though it took a while for Andrew to notice him, at which time he did "the proverbial double-take", according to Howard). Apparently the stitches are in Andrews eyebrow line and not noticeable. Thank God, especially if he is serious about a performing career.

Jackie -- I hope everything is okay with DD's wisdom teeth. DD(almost 18) goes back to the oral surgeon Monday for follow-up. I am hoping all is fine and routine.

Okay, guys, I am going to make a commitment here in the hopes of feeling honor-bound to follow through. We are having dinner with friends tomorrow night, so I am going to go to the gym tomorrow am to get in my 30 or 40 minute walk and speed/form drills. I am hoping to draw inspiration from all of you who are training under adverse physical or climate or stress conditions. I'll be thinking of all of you (including our very own Judy, who may be on a TM at the same time I should be!)

Good night, all!! :grouphug:

Christa , THANK YOU!!! Great pictures!! :cool1: You and Bree make it look soooo easy! I, however, am quite content to be doing the half!!
Rachael, Glad that you are back! Glad that you have that gall bladder taken care of..you'll soon be back in shape! Just don't push too fast! Don't worry about DL, you won't be alone! Will you make the meet at Napolini's?
Jackie YIKES!! et tu?? I know you couldn't wait to get your DD to that doctor! How are things now?
Carrie, Oh, Carrie, I'm sorry you have a wicked MIL, also! :sad2: Hey, 112 page scrapbook??!! If it doesn't put you over the weight limit..bring it with you to WDW!! I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to see it. And yes, your marathon report was one of the very first that I read and got me all crazy!! Well, crazier... I went to that link and spied two WISHers!! Don't know who they are :confused3 , but they had their WISH shirts on!! :rainbow: Anne

Morning Everyone,

Before I start I'd like to thank all that have given me links to pictures to the Disney Runs. I know someone posted before (although can't remember who --- coffee hasn't started to work yet), and I agree Christa you and Bree making running Disney look so easy.

Last night, it was getting late so I didn't post my little gym visit but I did 2 miles on the threadmill in 22.50 minutes, I also did 20 minutes on the ellipitical with a level 5 difficulty.

Well, have to get ready for work but wanted to post those couple of things -- I will try and catch up with everyone's posts tonight.

Jodi

Good morning, WISH Team!

Just checking in before heading to the shower.
Dragged myself out of bed at 5:35 and headed to the gym for MfM walk the half training-- 40 minutes walking and speed drills of 1 min/30 seconds x4. Here's what that yielded
40 minutes --> 2.83 miles = pace 14:08 (NOT impressive)
6 minutes speed drills ---> .48 miles = pace 12:30 (that's better)

Will be back later to catch up with everyone!

Oh. and Carrie, I second the plea -- you MUST bring your scrapbook/photos to WDW. IF they are anywhere near as impressive as the mini scrap card you sent me, I am sure we will all be very inspired and energized and teary-eyed! :lovestruc

Helen -- Any word on the furbaby? I have been thinking of you and Tim and your sweetie. What is her name? :cat: I hope she is home and fine and resting comfortably.

Anne - If it appeared to be a dw/dh team, those pics were me and dh.

Cam - The book would prbably be a disappointment, as far as decoration. I would have never gotten it sone, otherwise. I tend ot save my best work for others. ;)

As for the scrapbook, sorry. No trips for it. ALthough I'd love to show everyone, it's just to big to do carry-on with all teh stuff for the race I need to bring carry on, in case my luggage is lost. On the same track of lost luggage, no way could I put it in my checked luggage. I would die if it got lost. I'll try to take some pics of the race pages when I have time and post them, though.

HI all, Wow I do errands & cleaning for 1 day & miss 3 pages :rotfl: You can tell everyone is getting more excited about their events & more chatty, I love it :thumbsup2 Bunco is at my house tonight so I am going to xt with cleaning & try to get in a short turbo jam session. I am hoping it really helps with my abs.

Christa-I remember that great pic too! I loved it!

Krista-I know that had to be terrifying! I-75 is no place to be stopped! Glad you are o.k. :wizard: for your car :goodvibes

Cam-glad DS is o.k. And yes, your pace was awesome :thumbsup2

RAchel- :wizard: for you getting better. Dont push too hard though & get injured. Walking the marathon is better than not being able to start.

Judy-WOW your MIL is a piece of work. You see movies about awful MIL but I've never had that problem so I didnt think they really existed! You could do a Lifetime Movie of the Week with her shenanigans (sp?) Good luck!

I'm off to start my crazy day. I'll catch up with everyone else tomorrow! Have a great day!

Good morning everyone!! :sunny: I get my steps in last night :woohoo: I did 30 minutes on the treadmill. Let me warn everyone now: if you are training, DO NOT STOP!! DO NOT TAKE TIME OFF (other than the required rest days or if you have an injury) and if you have not started "training to train" for the full or half marathon: GET YOUR BUTT OUT THERE AND START TRAINING!!!! You do not want to be on week one of training and be out of shape. Trust me. And why should you trust me? Because I can tell you from experience when you take time off from running, walking, cross training, your body will be rusty and you'll lose fitness and what muscle build up you already had. When this happens, your legs will ache when you run and they will beg you to stop and it will not be fun. Trust me. ;) ;)

Carrie--112 page scrapbook? That sounds awesome. I do scrapbooking too (or I should say that I used to, I haven't "scrapped" in over a year and I'm still back in 2003  ) so I know what an artform it really is. I'd love to have some inspiration to motivate me!

Christa--The Evil Queen has her work cut out for her!! You've got to get these people moving!!

Cam--I'm so glad that Andy is okay! I can't imagine how you must have felt. Other than that, did he have a happy birthday?

Jodi--I don't have many pictures of the marathon, but this is what I have. I think next year I'm going to figure out a way to carry a camera with me.

Krista -- awesome pix! Thanks for sharing! I can't wait to take pix of the WISH 1/2ers this year! I want to be as inspirational and supportive as I remember Carrie being last year. :lovestruc

Thanks for asking about Andy and his birthday. He said it was great and he loved his cross country shirt and the new addidas running shorts. I am really hoping he'll run the 1/2 marathon in 2008. We'll see how his running progresses and how demanding his freshman high school year seems it will be. UGH! Did I just say that?

BTW --my training plan calls for 3 mile LW this Saturday and 6 next Saturday. Do you think it would be okay to flip them? I'll have the time to do the 6 this Saturday and I am doing a 5K (3.1) next Saturday. Or, should I do the 3 this Saturday and then do the 5K next Saturday and make time right after it to do another 3 miles?

Would love to hear what you guys think. :confused3

Krista - LOVE  the pics...you look like you are having fun!

Cam - About the swiching 6 and 3....how far have you gone on those LRs so far?.......Also: WTG on getting out of bed and working out!
And on that note..............

Evil Queen on:
I am so glad you guys like the pic of the end of the Goofy! I thought it woud get people excited and want to train. I have to second Krista on don't stop training and go ahead and start if you have not yet! It is harder to start again than to keep on truck'n through the training. The 1/2, full marathon, and Goofy will be "easy" if you train well. Well easier than if you slack in training! Plan the race and race the plan...and this includes those long runs/walks. Trust me...I have raced a race w/out training well and I vowed to NEVER do that again!
I agree Christa you and Bree making running Disney look so easy.
Jodi - I have to say it isn't that bad...(to anyone not training) IF YOU TRAIN! Note the theme! :goodvibes
Evil queen off!

I WISH I were a nice person! :rotfl2:

Lily-- oh I'm so happy to see you :grouphug: :yay: You are truly a role model. 56 and a Goofy finisher and from pics and in person you don't look 56 at all! You look and act as young as the rest of us (not sure thats a compliment ;) :rotfl: )

Carrie-- did you receive your cafepress stuff or just order? I'm always curious as to the quality. It's a bit nerve-racking for me to not see the finished product before it goes to the customer. And always remember there's a 100%MBG (that doesn't cost me a cent ;) ) I'm glad you liked the saying. It's been a really fun experience for me to put into words and images some of the things that have come from my 26.2 experience.

Rachael-- Ouch! I'm so glad your surgery went well and you are on the mend.

Jodi-- there are some race pics in my marathon story, some are from the local news paper and some are from Carrie, who managed to hold onto her camera throughout the race whereas I threw mine overboard around mile4. http://livinglively.com (Its under "My First Marathon" under Random Thoughts. I tried to put a link directly to it, but the frames don't seem to allow that).

Krista-- I totally agree about not slacking off if possible. In my case I had not choice, but getting back into a 5 day wo schedule has been really hard. As much as I love running, my body is begging me to stop and my overall energy throughout the day is lousy. I know its a transition period, but I don't like it. ALso, I'm learning (had forgotten) that when you first start out weight-lifting, the afterwards soreness is quite unpleasant. Once you've been doing it for a while its not unpleasant at all. I'm back in the unpleasant zone :furious:

Hooray for you! You are doing so well at taking it slowly, as we all know how anxious you are to get back. Although, really, 30:10 with a warm up walk isn't slow for some of us! May the pelican fly away soon!
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I love it! Fly away, fly away, pelican!!!!!

Today was better. I am convinced the more active I am (probably because that means more stretching) the better I feel the next morning.

MelR & Christa-- thanks for the tips on swimming. Pennies is a good idea! My current sports watch only has a start/stop chronograph, no laps. Guess its time for a new watch. Actually, I am trying to curb my fitness addiction spending as I gear up to going part-time so DS can be home more.

Speaking of my part-time quest, someone bought 60 bumper stickers the other day. It was the 13.1 Half Marahon, Whole Race design. I'm psyched! The profit per bumper sticker is only 50 cents, but hey, I'm well on my way to retirement now :teeth: :thumbsup2

I did upperbody weights when I dropped DS off at Y camp this morning. One a couple of the machines I did my first set at target weight and then it didn't give me that annoying "you aren't reaching your target weight would you like to decrease?" question. It doesn't know how close its come to being smashed :lmao:

oh I suppose I should earn my keep now...

Sunny

MelR-- I had another question. (So much for earning my keep). What type of boat do you tow the Boy in? I want to get a real kayak but we aren't ready for a real two-man one (not to mention I don't think I could maneuver it on and off a car by myself). Does the Boy have his own paddle? If so, how do you keep him from losing it? In our inflatable jobbie I let DS paddle a bit but I was deathly scared he'd drop it and we'd be stuck! How hard is it to tow a second boat? All details are appreciated :goodvibes

Sunny

Christa-- I'm so happy to see your Goofy pic back in your siggie. I love that picture. I think all three of you should have that framed and on a wall!

oops, still not earning my keep

Carrie, I noticed that you're cruising Alaska in 2 mths. may I ask which cruise lines you'll be on? I use to work on Norwegian Cruise Lines - America and was wondering which ship you'll be on. I also applied at DCL, but haven't heard from them. Have fun :teeth:

Good to see you Lily, I've missed our chats.....I haven't seen you in the chat rooms for along time...hope all is well.

Carrie-- My brother is currently "cruising Alaska" in a slightly different form. His friend lives on a boat in Alaska (he's in the Coast Guard) so my bro and his fiance are there right now. He's posted his trip pics, there's a ton of them, but the scenery is gorgeous-- bro's "Alaskan Cruise" They are going to ride with them down to Seattle then Paul and his DW are going to continue to cruise to Baja. They are quite the adventureres!

Here's a funny story: when JP (bro) and Paul were just about 10 my Dad took them out in his little junker boat off of Somme Sound (Bar Harbor, ME) and they got stuck in dense fog, lost sight of land and ended up heading out to the open ocean. My Dad being the careful person that he is, didn't have a compass or a functional radio!!! We find it quite amusing that Paul ended up inthe Coast Guard. I guess he decided if there are people like my Dad out there on the water, then there needs to be guardian angels to rescue them :rotfl2:

Sunny

Someone "MAKE" me get off of here :rolleyes1 :surfweb: :rotfl2:

Christa -- I did 5 (hard) miles last Sunday (it was on a trail with some BFHs), so I am confident I could do 6 this week. Also, I have done about 6.5 on the TM this week over the course of 3 separate sessions (Monday, Tuesday and this morning).

Carrie, Can't say that I blame you, kiddo, about NOT bringing the scrapbook! Just a WISHful thought! On seeing the WISHers..I saw a different person in the background in two of the pictures. No couples. Hey, and great job on getting out there and getting those miles behind you!!
Krista, Nice to "see" ya!! The Expo looks MUCH better than the Minnie. Hopefully, Minnie will catch up! The good thing about returning to training is that it won't take you as long to recondition..HANG IN THERE. Good job on kicking slackers' butts, though.. :lmao:
Cam, Good for you!! You got out there this morning and did it!! :cheer2: and Cam, look where Harrison Ford's scar has taken him!! :rotfl: Glad, though, that DS's wasn't too bad. Tomorrow you'll see for yourself! We're at the same place in our training and switching the two runs shouldn't be a problem as we have the miles in. At least, that's what the Penguin says.. :thumbsup2 This was just our "rest" long run, right?
Jodi, I have to tell you, I just am amazed at your elliptical work!! I know I am just a beginner and my elliptical is old (bought a used one)..but I do 5 minutes on it and have to rest!! at difficulty level 1!!!! so you are awesome!!!
TiffJ, enjoy your evening. You are doing great to squeeze in that exercise on a busy day!! NINE weeks from today we depart for DL!! :bitelip:

One last post... :rolleyes1

Someone recently asked about how to post pictures. Googles new picaso service is about the easiest and best one yet. (That's the one my bro used for the Alaskan pics). Its easy to upload images and the slide shows are full screen and no one ever has to register or sign in to view your pics.

http://picasaweb.google.com/

OK, my light is definitely going out now.

Well, this is my last day at work....which under normal circumstances would be a very good thing. I guess before 2:30 tomorrow I'll try to muster up some enthusiasm. MIL was up to her usual tricks last night, but I'll spare you all the details.

I did my usual 45 min @ 3.8 @ 1% but I noticed in my training log that I haven't run in nine days. That's not good. I'll try to do some while I'm on vacation so I get back in the groove. Right now I am just tooooo tired. BTW my training schedule for while I'm away is this: I will train tomorrow morning, then take Sat & Sun off since we will be travelling. Then train Mon & Tues and take Wed off. Then train Thurs & Fri and take Sat & Sun off, as we will be coming home then. Then I am taking Monday off from work but I will train that day too. After I get up off my knees when I am done kissing the ground.

So I've published my training plans, so now I have to stick to them. :thumbsup2

Lily - There you are! :teeth: YAY! Stick around please, even if you're not training right now.

Anne - Yes, that's all I can think....chianti....well, actually tira misu, eggplant parm.....oh someone stop me! :bitelip:

Helen - Did I miss it or do we have a kitty update today?

Rachael - Oh my! I'm glad you're OK now. :goodvibes Hey, nothing wrong with walking! Come join us Penguins!

Jackie - Good idea, but they absolutely do not speak to each other.

Cam - Oh I'm glad DS is fine. Howard is so sweet to surprise him like that. Yes I was on TM this morning at 4:30am. :teeth: Right about now it's the only time I could stand it. The humidity is killing me!! Ugh. 93% this morning.

Krista - Great pics! Thanks so much for sharing!

Christa - Ummm, you ARE a nice person. :cutie: We all need a kick in the heiney once in a while. We depend on you for that!

Sunny - Oh I'm glad to hear you're doing better. OMG Your dad story! :lmao:

One last comment before I start finishing up my real work.....

I've been thinking...I notice a lot of comments from people saying they are  for signing up for the Half, or Full or Goofy or whatever.....WE are not  . You know who's  ? The people who are NOT doing anything. People who come home, sit on the couch with their Big Macs and watch tv while having a smoke. THOSE people are  . We are taking steps in the right direction, making commitments, doing the right things to have a healthier life. So we aren't  . We are challenging ourselves and we are doing it. What we should be is PROUD and VERY SATISFIED and HAPPY with ourselves.

OK, nuff said.

I am off to Italy. :moped:

I will miss you all very much, even though I never met a single one of you. I feel like you are all my friends and I am SURE I will miss a lot in the next ten days. I'll be back on-line Tuesday the 25th.

Ciao! :wave2:

Oh, crud! WE are in deep stuff now! We made a reservation back in February for performance/visiting/pickup weekend at a resort near the performing arts camp DS will attend in August. It took me well over 2 hours to FIND a place with openings that wasn't charging over $150/night.
Today we get a call that they are closing the resort due to flooding and no electricity and they will return our deposit.
We may very well end up with no where to stay unless we are willing to drive about 90 minutes from our hotel to the camp (the camp is 3.5 hours away and the hotels are not between here and there). I can't believe we are now in this predicament. Please send all the pixiedust: you can spare. This is actually a real problem. Okay, not world-crisis kind of real problem. But can you imagine driving 3.5 hours to the camp on Friday morning, then 90 minutes to the hotel Friday night (IF there are any rooms to be found), 90 minutes back to camp Saturday am, 90 minutes to hotel Saturday night, 90 minutes to camp Sunday, pick up DS and drive 3.5 hours home? I am getting car sick just thinking about it!
