Wk of Jul 9--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

I walked for 30 mins. on my TM yesterday and hope to get in a 1.5-2 hr. workout in today at the recreation center. Have a fantastic weekend! :cool1:

OK! I am reporting on my 14 mile LR!
This is me during, after and now! :scared1: :faint: :scared:  :crazy2: It was HOT! I thought I was going to DIE at least 5 times! Here is a list of things that happened!
1) Got chased by 2 huge dogs about mile 8...I am talking as big as me huge!
2) IBS - Need I say more???? If you don't know wat this is PM me!
3) A squrell (sp?) chased me! :confused3
4) A Taxi ran the light on Morehead (I call it MoreHELL b/c it is a mile straight up!) and almost hit me. Then gave me the finger! :furious:
5) The heat! O..The heat!

Anyway...I did have a few revalations ( sp?) while running, but I will post them later when I am in my right mind. I think they will help motivate everyone!

I finished in 2:10.07...that is 9:17 MPM...a little slower than normal, but I had to walk during the IBS attack! :lmao: I also did not take off for stopping at lights.

DH is taking me out tonight for our 14 years of wedded bliss! So I ran 14 miles for each year he has had to put up with me! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info, MelR. DS is 49" tall and weighs 64 lbs! He's big for his age, but looks like the trail-a-bike could work.

Happy Anniversary Christa! Glad you survived your 14miler to celebrate it!!!

Just a two mile walk for me today.

Sunny

Helen

Thanks for the update. I'm pulling for your kitty :cat: , and of course for you.

Craig

Thanks everyone for the support. It really means a gerat deal!

I'm not able to stay here long. Just had a couple of secs. Great to see the pics posted up. I also enjoyed looking at the tri-link info. Not gonna happen for me. Nope!

I have an answer for the question about training for Goofy. I'll get it again if I can locate it. This worked for me. It is at a very slow pace, so it is quite do-able!

I am on the trail tomorrow a.m. Step off is 6:15 or 6:30 depending on which group. It is hot here so I look forward to a slow pace. Will see how far I can get. I'm not in for speed just now. Trying for distance. Me, one foot in front of the other...

Well I only managed to walk on my tm for an hour today, I was hoping to do 1.5, but that's ok. Walked over 3 miles.

Lily, are you participating in the marathon?

Christa - you are too funny - you did almost die 5 times! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

Just wanted to stop by & post something I noticed while wogging last night. I really think I have better posture now. All of a sudden while running the loop in my neighborhood, I thought "hey, you are standing so straight & tall - and it feels good!" I don't know if it's the exercise strengthening my core a bit, or maybe simply increased confidence from losing weight & getting fit. But I like it!
(my posture wasn't horrible before - it just probably wasn't the best)

Today is my rest day - so I am off to try to clean more before Zack wakes up.

Hi Everyone,

You are all going to be so proud of me -- I decided to sign up for another 5k (it's next weekend). It sounds interesting enough, it is right near Bradley International Airport in Hartford.

For those that would like to read about it -- here is a link: Space Race

Well, I'm off soon to the Fitness Center, and then tomorrow is my personal training session (looking forward to it).

I will try and update about my workout, if not have a great night everyone.

Jodi

OK, Mr Lamo has returned. I am really starting to hate my job because they actually expect me to work for the full 9 hours I am there every day. The worst thing about this is my butt (sorry if I offend) is always sore at the end of the day. I am starting to think that it is high time I get my head out of the place it has been burrried the past few weeks and get back to being GOOFY - and in the process I think I will kill a few more threads here and at any other site I visit. Wow, give the guy a couple of beers at on a Friday night and off he runs.

OK, I did a training run yesterday that I have never tried before - I did a two-a-day. That is I ran 3.1 miles at 7:30 AM and then ran the exact same course at 4 PM. The legs did not know what hit them but it actually felt really good. So far this week I have 17 miles with a really hard speed session on Tuesday - run 800 meters, jog 100 meters, run 500 meters, jog 100 meters, run 300 meters, jog 1 mile and repeat to find you mile time (just under 6 minutes for this sore old man). Tomorrow I am planning 13 or 14 miles so I can get back on track for the marathon in October.

I also added two days to our August vacation at the World  :woohoo: :cool1: by moving everything to August 11 instead of the 13th after DW suggested I do so. Boy that rant felt good, I think Sam Adams Summer Ale has a very theraputic effect. :dance3: :goofy:

No thread killing tonight! I just am dropping by to tuck in all the little young uns!:lmao:
Monte, I'm working on the details, want to be there. I'm signed up...kinda Goofy here. You did more walking today than me! Good for you!

Jodi, congrats on the 5k entry!

Kristi! Yay to you on the improvement.

I am set to wake at 5:30 to go with the group. I need my rest so I'm off.

Goofy Guy - Great job with the running! I can't wait to build up the miles, although - I will be taking it slower than you :teeth: . I know what you mean about work and the seats my butt is pretty sore too.

Well, I did go to the Fitness Center and did 4 miles. I really wanted to do 6 but I have a training session tomorrow and want to be able to give my all for that too! Starting to get Bob more motivated towards his 5k --- while I do the half in October, he will be running his little heart out in a 5k. Hopefully, I will be able to get one of my family members to take pictures of us. I'm very excited for Bob.

I actually got a great compliment from Bob's younger sister -- She said "Thank you for taking care of my bigger brother" She is so impressed that he lost 40 pounds since marrying me. I'm very proud of him but I'm also trying to keep him motivated - he wants to lose 40 more.

Sorry I'm rambling..... :goodvibes

Well, I am going to go for the night -- I will check in with all tomorrow...Have a great night everyone!

Christa - We're celebrating 18 yrs this weekend - happy anniversary! What a run! And since I know it's as hot in Charlotte as it is in Raleigh, more power to you for even being out there.

I have a whole new respect for all you treadmill runners now. Our neighbors called yesterday and said they were getting rid of theirs and offered it to us for free, so I accepted. Tried it out this morning for the first time ever running on one, and boy is that a whole new experience! For the first 10 minutes I stared at my feet to keep from falling off the thing, then finally got into a groove and felt like I actually knew how to run. Unfortunately, when the offer was made there was a "the display is a little flaky," which translated to "the display doesn't work at all" when I actually used it, so for now I have no way of knowing how far I've run or how fast I'm going. DH is going to see if he can fix that, but I figure any TM is better than none, esp when it's this hot!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Jackie

That's awesome! :goodvibes

Christa - well done on the 14 miles, and happy anniversary. Running with IBS is great fun isn't it......not! My routes are all planned by where the public washrooms are.

I have trouble with the sports drinks, and the gels/powershots and the sports bars. So if anyone has any suggestions I could use some help.

Way to go Jodi! Let us know how you do.

Jackie, I find that walking on a TM is alot harder than outdoors....maybe it's the boredom factor, which I do get sometimes while walking indoors, but never outdoors? Good luck!

Yesterday I did 2.87 miles in 13:56 pace :cool1: I'm starting to get my groove back  By 7:20 it was so hot :sunny: it was ridiculous!

I forgot to tell you guys about my DR visit the other day. I went to get checked out because of light headedness when wogging (although it happend many other times when not working out, I just never told DM or DH ) so she is testing me for everything under the sun. From blood sugar levels to kidney & liver function, lupus, thyroid, and a whole bunch of other stuff. I hope to find out soon, because its starting to affect my workouts & I dont appreciate it! Also, I get to go to PT for my ankles :cool1: I told her I didnt like the ortho she sent me to because his solution for the tendonitis was to give me pills & tell me that my feet weren't made to go that far. Not very supportive :confused3 So she is sending me to PT for a couple of times so they can show me some stretches & stuff to help me prevent it from acting up :Pinkbounc

DS8 has oral surgery on Monday. Thank goodness I've been so busy this week I havent had time to think about it much. It's minor, he has an extra mass of tooth material blocking his adult tooth from coming in. But they still have to put him under general anestesia and that makes me nervous.

Jackie-I hate treadmills. I dont feel like I'm going to fall off, but I cant go anywhere near my normal pace on them for some reason. I try to avoid them at all costs!

Rachel-my mom has a really sensitive tummy (she does all these races with me) and sticks with drinking water & uses Sport Jelly Bellies. They haven't bothered her tummy like shot blocks do. And they taste really good. They are Jelly Bellies with electrolytes & stuff in them. Of course you would want to try them before race day :thumbsup2

Lily- I know you've already left, but good luck ! :cheer2:

Goofyguy-2 more days at WDW is ALWAYS a good thing! Good job on your runs :Pinkbounc Oh, and we are way too chatty of a group for you to kill this thread!

Christa-awesome pace! Your story was so funny :lmao: Did you not use your super powers to know that guy was going to run the red light & stay out of his way? Happy Anniversary

Off to do some xt before I go to WW. Have a great weekend everyone!

Whew! It is HOT! DH and I didn't get started as early as I wanted this morning, we started our 6 m LW at about 8:30. Wow, I was soaked before we even started. Finished with an average 16:36 pace, which is fine for Chicago, not so good for DL. Does anyone know what the weather in CA is like in Sept?? I do not like this heat, reminds me why I've done most of my walking on my TM.

I don't know how all you big dogs run in this heat :worship: Just be safe out there everybody!

Well I got in my 14 miles this morning and boy was it humid. You can only sweat so much before the humidity stops the cooling effest and then you are just wet. Covered the 14 miles in 1:57. I took in a Gel pack at 5 miles and was drinking gatorade every 2 miles and I never had the blood sugar drop. So it looks like I will be using the running belt on all my long runs - even though the thing drives me crazy. I wanted to push for 1 mile at the end so with 2 miles to go I covered a mile in just under 7 minutes and then walked for 2 mins before finishing up. Boy am I happy with this effort. Thanks everyone for the support and good luck training. And I didn't kill the thread either.

Did some crosstraining with my personal trainer (boy, did I get my butt kicked). Mostly all upper body work, bi's, tri's, back, shoulders, and just a little bit of abs.

So I guess, will call today my crosstraining day. :thumbsup2

That's all I have for right mow!
