Thank you all for asking about me. Yes, I admit I am very depressed. The pain hasn't subsided with inactivity. I tried a little 10 minute walk last Sunday and spent two days in agonizing pain afterward. I'm convinced I am looking at surgery. I called and begged to have my next apt with the two ns drs moved up but they don't have an opening, so I don't see them until Aug 17. I feel like I'm living my life ina waiting room, clinging desparately to my percocet as my only hope.

My poor mother is driving to Mt. Auburn right now (in the heat) to get my MRI (again) since Lahey lost the first one. We're hoping there may be some evidence of change between that one (June 9) and the one done a couple of weeks ago.

If I have the spinal fusion surgery, its a 5 day stay in the hospital and anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months recovery time depending on age, activity level, etc.

I can barely type this, but I realize now that I will not be running Applefest. I can't look any further inot the future yet, its just too painful. I refuse to do the math. And I refuse to do anything with my signature just yet.

Thank you so much for being there for me.

Sunny
Oh Sunny...I just read this and I am so sorry! I will be praying for you. Here is a little PD and Disney magic for you!

Kristi-- I'm so sorry for your loss, we've lost way too many youth in our community to dangerous driving.

Cam-- Happy birthday!

Sunny
I'm so, so, so, sorry you're having to deal with this Sunny. Please don't give up on your dreams. No one here is giving up on you!!! We're all here for you. Here's some Disney magic just for you!!! pluto: pluto: pluto: pluto: pluto:

Sunny

I'm very sorry to hear of your continued physical ailments. Given you love of movement, you're justified in being totally bummed out right now.

Please think about the getting better after part. Looking forward to rehab and improvement makes you want to get up and get moving.

Craig

Christa

I turned in my 2006 Disney Half time of 2:05 to support an expected :teeth: finish time of 4:20. I think our supporting times justify the expected finish we gave them, so it's very likely we'll be in the same corral.

Howard

I applaud your goals for the half and full, but I would counsel you to be very careful on full marathon day, as starting too quickly will demand repayment with large amounts of interest later in the race. With your sub-2 capabilities I suspect your "easy" half will be perhaps 30 seconds per mile slower (which feels super easy) or around 2:06. Don't underestimate what that will take out of you for Sunday's full. I'm worried that starting about 10:15 per mile with a group could cause you to get to empty soon, making the last part of the full marathon horrible.

Because . . . that is what happened to me. Flat out I'm probably capable of 1:58 or 9 per mile for the half. This year I did the half in 2:05, just over 0:30 slower per mile, it felt easy, I never strained, and all day Saturday I felt fine.

Sunday I go through the first 13.1 in 2:15 and feel excellent. My wife gets the text message I'm at the 1/2 way point, with an anticipated finish in 4:30. Her reaction, correctly, is "no way." After turning towards the Animal Kingdom the hammer fell and my legs turned to jelly. The 2nd half of the marathon was done in 2:32, and it was really ugly. I never knew my quads could hurt so much, or that getting up an overpass could be physically impossible.

Just be careful with your early pace on marathon day. I wasn't and wham! No fun at all.

Also, last year they had pacers running time goal groups, and the 4:40 group passed me at mile 18. If those guys are at it again, I may try to hang with the 4:30 group after we clear the EPCOT congestion. That is of course if they're not past me already by then.

Ciao

Craig

Thanks everyone :grouphug:

I can vouch for that big time! I din't do Goofy, but I did start out way too fast. Based on my previous half and all my training LRs, I was definitely set to finish sub 4:30. In fact, I was signed up with the 4:15 pace group. I finished 4:33 but it wasn't pretty. From mile 22 on I was just about as miserable as I am now ;) I don't have my splits handy, but I know I ended with ~11mm and it was all I could do to not give into walking it out.

I HAVE A PLAN!
We all need to at least start together and if someone wants to pull off, no pressure to stay with the group.
The 1st of the marathon is "slow" anyway due to the crowds.

I guess we need to be in the same corral...I put my 4:25 Charlotte marathon time down....actually, my 2:10 1/2 marathon may have given me a better start point. Oh well...too late!

What do you gals and guys think?

Hmmm...WISH pace groups for the full and half??

Oh Sunny! I am glad you checked in, but so sorry to hear that it's not been going as well as you had hoped. Please continue to check in and take especially good care of yourself!

I know you are really bummed out about the Applefest. But you know what? It's there in Hollis every single year and it ain't going anywhere!

Hang in there! pixiedust:

Wow, took me forever to catch up. Quick stop by for me tonight.

Hope everyone's training is going well. I had the past two days off frfom training due to a crazy work schedule.

Cam - Happy Belated Birthday! :Pinkbounc Hope you had a great day!

Sunny - sorry you're not feeling any better. I'll keep you in my prayers. :grouphug: :wizard:

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

My princesses, DD5 princess: and DD8 princess:, and I had our x-country race yesterday evening. We had a great time. The girls entered the 50 yard dash lollipop race, but it was more like 150 m. DD8 princess: won the race and DD5 princess: came in 3rd. Both girls said the race felt too short, and they are excited for the 1/4 mile next week.

At the end they were handed popsicles (not lollipops), and there was a "treasure chest" grab bag where they could each pick a prize. All the prizes were things from the Target Dollar spot, and the princesses were very excited. DD8 princess: picked a small pink and purple snack/lunch box, and DD5 princess: picked a bead bracelet crafty. It had 2 bracelets you could decorate with beads and glitter, and she happily gave one to her older sister and they decorated bracelets while I ran my race.

When it was time for my race, I put myself in the back of the pack. Starting siren blew, and I let everyone go ahead of me. There was myself and one other woman at the end of the line. I did approximately a 10r/1w plan. I jogged the first mile in 9:53 min. It felt very easy, and my right shin felt OK. I then walked for a little while, maybe a minute or more. My walking seemed to correspond with a killer hill that began right at 1 mile. Mile 2 was slower at 12:53 min, but that was because it had the walk in it too. Somewhere along the line I missed a loop of the cross-country course. Because I saw some of the front runners coming up from behind me. So I only had 0.54 mile to the finish after mile 2, and that was a 5:07 min jog (9:31 mpm). But you know what? I was OK with that - my shins had enough. So when I finished my Garmin said 2.54 miles in 27:54 min (11:00 mpm).

I was happy with that. For the most part my right shin felt OK. The hard part was that being a cross country course, it was mostly trail running. Every now and then I would hit a rut or hole that would throw off my right foot, and I would get a shooting pain through my right shin. But all and all it was a great run.

The princesses princess: princess: and I are ready to run again next week. Their goal is to bump up to the 1/4 mile race. My goal is to do the whole 5K course.

Hi to all! It has cooled down here and it feels SOOOOO good! I ran last night 4 miles with about 12:30 pace and didn't take water...dumb on my part. I was having a teeny attitude problem when I left the house. More like a :stir: than a princess: , I am afraid. Anyway, at least I got out and did it. It was an "I am a quitter, I can't do this day." But, I went out and ran and two months ago I couldn't have done what I did. So, I am making progress, it just seems so slow. I swam this morning and am biking this afternoon - have to get in the ride I missed earlier this week. I am starting to worry about the swim part of the Disney tri...I can easily go a half mile, a whole mile seems a LOT farther! DH wanted to fly back the same day as the tri...I told him NO WAY! I want to have a room to go back to for a shower and nap! :p

Sunny - :grouphug: I know I haven't been here long, but I wanted you to know you are in my thoughts. I can relate to the depression thing...and I know how it gets when you aren't able to do things. I am sorry you are hurting physically and mentally. I agree - don't give up!!!!

Cam - Happy Birthday a day late! party:

Dave - It sounds like you and the princess: princess: had a good time! My DD7 is starting to get interested in running, too.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

The DW and I just went out for a nice 2 mile jog last night, and even nearing 10pm we were still dripping like crazy from the humidity... Took it nice and easy, it was just our pre-race run preparing for the 5k on Saturday. After the race we head southward to the mouse, although we're not actually hitting the parks until Mon-Wed. Staying at SoG Sun-Wed if anyone else is around... Then doing water parks Thur-Fri before heading back up probably on Sat.

Looks like that storm is a depression now, so hopefully will be entirely a non issue for those of us in Florida (yes we're in the panhandle to the person who asked, near Pensacola).

pixiedust: for everyone running injured or trying to, I had been having shin problems myself but they've mostly gone away, especially since I'm down around 10 pounds in the last couple months go figure... I think shin splints are my bodies way of saying "um HELLOOOOOO, what are you  for trying to put this much weight on me for so long?"

All right, I have been working on this for 2 hours and so busy that I haven’t had time to post. I’ll come back again later to catch up some more. I know– I am hopeless!

Thank you so much everyone for the joyful birthday wishes. I had such a nice time out to dinner with Howard and the kids at one of my favorite restaurants. It was a lot of fun – even the part where I had to kiss a moose. Yeah, I just love being the center of attention. NOT!!! Of course, I overindulged and I’ll have to work my butt off this weekend to pay for the nachos and bleu cheese dressing and whipped cream! I’m just glad both kids were here to celebrate with us!

Sunny – I am so sorry you are in pain, sweetie. I am keeping you in my prayers and sending :goodvibes: and pixiedust: I hope that by the time you see the docs on the 18th you will be far along on the road to recovery.

Cam...I meant to say something last week, but missed it. You look amazing! I didn't realize how much you'd changed when I saw you in May until I saw MelR's pics from January. Wow! Congrats!

OMG, Mel! I was just going back trying to read everything I’ve missed and catch up on everyone, and I spotted this. How did I miss something that has totally made my day, my week, my month? You are such a sweetie! I have been so down on myself about not losing more weight and then you said this and it made me feel so much better. I still have a REALLY long way to go, but it is encouraging to remember I’ve accomplished something so far. :) So, how are your feet, kiddo? I am glad the taping is working, but does it make them really hot?

Kelley – How is your training going for Baltimore? We are close enough to do that, but I think it will be too soon after DL this year. But I am hoping you will love it so much that you’ll want to plan on doing it again next year with some fellow WISHers.

Sara – I hope DH enjoyed his dinner. And I'm SURE he LOVED his dessert! ;) How in the world are you keeping the secret about the cruise from DDs? I'd be so excited that my kids would wonder why I was :Pinkbounc  :dance3: :bounce: :woohoo: How can you pack their stuff without them knowing? I hope you have an awesome time enjoying the anticipation!

Krista – Happy Birthday to Stephen! :cake:

Sonya – Don’t worry about being alone at the start in January. Hopefully all WISHers will have on some form of lime green and you’ll find others in your corral. :thumbsup2 If not, you will see them on the course at the beginning because it is kind of slow. :crowded: Everyone we encountered last year was very friendly and even if we hadn’t found other WISHers we still would have had lots of friendly people to :chat: with. Rhonda and I even found some people to sing with! :rolleyes1

Rachael – Sorry I didn’t get to post yesterday to wish you a smooth flight and a great weekend at the wedding.

Jen – How did your run go last night with your inhaler? I hope you felt a significant difference and are breathing easier! :goodvibes:

Dave – Congratulations on a great pace for the race, especially considering it was cross-country and had at least one BFH. I am so glad you didn’t push yourself to the point of pain. How exciting that your princesses loved the experience and are ready for more of a challenge! :cool1: Can’t wait to hear how next week goes. :goodvibes:

Beka – How awesome that you pushed past an attitude and went out to train! Do you realize how much that distinguishes you? :thumbsup2 You should be very very proud of yourself, kiddo!

Matt – Good luck on your race. I am so glad the weather is looking much better for your trip. Enjoy! And give mickey a hug for me if you see him, okay?

WORK....... :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc:

Ok.... I feel better now....

Morning all!!

Sunny-- :grouphug: :grouphug: I'm so sorry that you are having deal with all of this....

Dave-- Great job with the race. :thumbsup2 I agree about trail running... it's a whole different thing. Sometimes I will do runs on the cross country trail here at work and I have to constantly remind myself that it's slow going for a reason.

Sara-- MCM in '07?? Hmmm.... not a bad idea, just depends on the date vs. my work schedule. I was thinking I would be running Toronto Waterfront in September '07 since I know I'm free that weekend, but if I am free MCM weekend as well, that'll be a tough call.

Christa, Howard, et. al-- Since I'm going Goofy this year I wouldn't mind linking up to keep on pace for the full. I went 4:28 last year and if I could duplicate that (or something in that zip code), I'd be thrilled. Howard-- you and I are on the same wavelength here-- I plan on running the half very, very, very easy.

So my training is taking a backseat to work insanity right now... and I really dislike it when that happens. I had a jujitsu lesson last night as XT.. talk about a great way to relieve work stress. :teeth: Not running much lately had sort of inspired a crisis of confidence of sorts, but I think I worked through it. Goofy seems like SUCH a BIG challenge... but that's the whole point, right??

OK-- silly question for you all. I just got my new running shoes in the mail. :yay: The Adidas Supernova Cushion redesign is definately not as ugly as the pictures made it look and it fits the same as my old pairs, so I'm thrilled with that. Now... the shoes I had been wearing are the ones I ran the marathon in. So....what should I do with them?? I'm sort of attatched to them, it being my first marathon and all. I'm torn. Any thoughts?

OK, back to the grind-
Happy training!

Have them bronzed and use them as a weapon fo rpeople who tick you off at work! ;) Good question. Minme are still in the closet. Can't bear to part with them.

DAve - Glad you had a great time! Hope you're doing ok today!

Cam - Glad you had a great b-day. I'd love to see a more recent pic, so I coudl see the changes Mel spoke of! :goodvibes

Hey all, jsut a quick update from me. I did use my inhaler last night and I think it made a difference. I haven't run much in the last two weeks, and when I did it was on the TM because of the heat. So compared to my last outdoor run, yes it made a difference. I was paranoid as to whether I did it right, but after I did it I could feel my lungs open. DH asked if I ran faster, and I think I did. I never fell behind like I was, I stayed with the group. BUT, I did pull something in my back. Argggggg... I felt a twinge while running, but as the night went on my back ached more and more. So I am taking Aleve to numb it off.

We leave for out Disneyland vacation in 2 weeks and I haven't even started to prepare. I am so excited tho. This will be our second time at DL. And I desperately want a new god ears antenna topper. Ours was stolen right off the car when we went into a store. And since the 50th is ending soon, I need to get a couple!

Have a great day all!

T.G.I.F! The heat has let up just a bit Now, if we could just get rid of this humidity!

I want to thank you all for what you did this morning, even though you weren't there. The alarm went off at 4:15am, and I seemed to be stuck to the mattress. My internal dialogue went something like this:

Me: "Ugh. I don't want to get up. I'm too tiiiiired."

Me: "Get up, you bum! All those guys on the boards gave you kudos for getting back in the saddle, and after one day you're going to screw up already??"

Me: But I'm sooooooo tired!"

Me: "Get up, you lazy !^%#*&@#&! What are you going to tell them if you don't train today??"

Me: OK, OK, I'm up."

And with that I got up and did 45 min @ 3.8 @ 1%. So...thank you all for the motivation. :thumbsup2

Cam - I hope you had a fabulous birthday! :flower3:

Melissa - Ohhh! Happy anniversary! :lovestruc Wow! You rode 30 miles then ran 3 1/2?? You are amazing! :worship:

Sunny...Oh Sunny..... I'm happy to see you here, but so sorry to hear about your situation. Please remember we are all here for you.

Dave - Wow! Congratulations to both girls! :cheer2: It sounds like you guys really had fun! And you did great too! I'm so glad!

Bekah - Good for you for going out and doing it when you really didn't feel like it! :thumbsup2

Matt - I hear you about the extra weight. My knees often complain LOUDLY!

Cam – I actually had thought about doing the Lance Armstrong Race but can’t. BIL & SIL (who live in CA) will be in Vermont starting that weekend & we are driving up to spend a few days with them. I am kind of bummed, because now that might not even happen. Nurses are going on strike at hospital where John (DH) works, so there is a freeze on all vacations. I agree the 6.2 is perfect for the week before the ½ .
Happy Belated Birthday! :cake:
Howard – Congratulations on being accepted into the MBA Program!
Judy, Melissa, & Dave – Thanks for your conversation last week about waist packs. I ordered both the Strider & the Ultimate Direction Solitaire, since they were both reasonably priced. Couldn’t decide which would hold all my stuff the best. I have been just wearing Columbia Trail/Water Shorts that have little zippered pockets on the sides of the legs. The stuff bounces around a bit, but I’ve gotten used to it. Looking forward to trying the packs. Sunny – I purchased through SunnyShopper too.
Kristi – Very cool..your GREAT tickets & Backstage passes for GooGooDolls. I saw them a few days before you here in Jersey, but we were way back in the lawn seats. :rotfl:
So very sorry to hear of your family’s loss. :grouphug:
Kathy – Thanks for the tip on the paced training music on I-tunes. I’ll have to check it out.
Carrie – Thanks for posting the photo of you, Scott, Kevin & Heather and the photos of the Coast Guard Race. Looks like a fun race except for finishing on an uphill. Congratulations on your times. Especially in all the heat! :woohoo:
Dave – Glad the leg pain is improving. Glad you and DD enjoyed your races last night. :cool1:
Mel – I really like your idea of doing a race in every state. So far the only race I have done is the local running clubs 5k and I have already been thinking of other races that I would like to do at some point. New Jersey has a bunch of races. In October is The Jersey Shore Half Marathon www.shoreac.org . The course goes through the Gateway National Recreation Area – Sandy Hook, NJ. They also have a 5k called the Sandy Hook Lighthouse 5k. Atlantic City also has a Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k & 5k in October. www.aksts.com John(DH), Sean(DS) & I are doing the Batsto Pig Iron 5k on Aug 13th. www.batstovillage.org It is advertised as the 1st Annual, so we are hoping it will be a fun race that we can participate in every year. The course goes through Historic Batsto Village in Wharton State Forest. I’m looking forward to reading everyone’s suggestions of races.
Christa – Congratulations on signing up for the WDW Marathon! :thumbsup2
Sara – Happy Belated Birthday to you DH. I have one of those husbands too. We were both born the same year, but me in March & him in December. Always have to hear that I am older then him. :lmao: I love your Disney Dinner Theme!
Krista – Happy Birthday to Stephen! I love the photo of your lab in your siggie!
Monte – the weight loss challenge sounds like a great way to keep motivated. Good Luck!
Judy – Glad you got through your slump and are back training. Hope the horses are doing better now that the heat & humidity have subsided some.
Jen – Glad you got an inhaler for your EIA & that it worked well for you on your run last night. pixiedust: that your back feels better.
Melissa – Glad you decided to do your own ½ Ironman. That’s GREAT that your family & friends will be there to support the course & join in for different parts. Happy Belated Anniversary! Enjoy your weekend away.
Sunny – I am so sorry the pain is not subsiding. Hang in there and take it one day at a time. Lots of :grouphug: and pixiedust:

To all that have been increasing their mileage and/or their pace… Congratulations! :woohoo: :thumbsup2

To all that are struggling to get out of a slump…. pixiedust:

To all that are sick and/or injurd…. pixiedust:

To all that have races this week…..Best of Luck!

To all the newbies….Welcome!

As for me….I am so very glad the heat & humidity are a little better today. I have been inside on the dreadmill this week and I am so looking forward to getting back outside. Last Sunday John(DH) & I did 8 miles at the reservoir in 2hrs 6min. It was a slow pace, but it was very hot & humid and the first 6 miles was with friends so that was at their pace.

Have a good weekend everyone! Stay Cool!
