Wk of Jan 28--WISH Walking/Running Club

I am so sorry that I don't have time to catch up on everyone...but my life has gone back into crazy mode! So this is a drive by...

I did read that someones dog ate a whole gym...nah, JK I know it was a total gym.:rotfl: I crack myself up.

Anywho!
Thanks everyone for caring about my run. Most people in my world really don't get it or care, so it is nice to have people who do care. If anyone wants to do the next one with me let me know. I think it will be in april or maybe June....not sure.

Bill and everyone else who is not feeling well....lots of :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for you!

Cecilia - WTG on that smoke'n pace! You were flying girl!

Cam - The dreadmill 2 days in a row!

Dave - I missed the whole Boston thing! But I know you can do it! Look how far you have come in just a year! What is your qualifying time? Mine is 3:45:eek: ....isn't that sad that I know that? I think if I wait until I am 70, and I can kinda keep up my pace, I can qualify! :rotfl: :confused3 :rotfl:

Jim - 20 miles! :yay:  That is great!

txang i hope you dont mind me asking but i have never worked out with my dh, we are both military and work different shifts and go to the gym at different times but we are both planning on running a half together in march i was wondering if you find it hard to workout with your dh. i know my dh is much faster than me and i dont want to hurt his pace but i know he will feel bad leaving me behind. any advice..........sorry so long
Kim - I think you asked this. I ran most of Goofy with my DH. He is a bit slower than me on the long distances so I slowed down to run with him. I did not mind though. We had a great time. Sometimes the journey with someone you love is better than finishing fast. I am sure your DH will feel the same way.

WTG on all the people running long or racing this past weekend. It is wonderful to read about all the great accomplishments.:cheer2:

I will run 5 (or 6 if we get lost!:scared1: ) with sis this morning. It is COLD this morning. (18)...I know some of you think I am a wimp for thinking 18 is cold! But I am not used to that.

Dave--good morning, thanks so much for the welcome

Bill--Thank you so much for the advice. I hope you are feeling much better.

Scott--great job on the run this morning, i dont know how you do it even with music after 2 miles on the tm i get bored as can be :)

Stephanie--thanks so much. I think we may attempt to like your dh and you but im not sure how it will work i see him 2ce a week with our schedules. but i think it may be a good thing to try. great luck to both of you also.

Christa-- I have to agree with you 18 is cold cold and this is coming from me who has lived in ny, ok and alaska its real cold. thanks so much for the advice, it would be so awesome if we could run at are own pace and finish together bc like you said there is no better feeling then being with the one you love at the important times. :) thanks so much

Thanks everyone well im off to work. im gonna be away on duty till mid feb
:( but ill be back and update everyone. good luck to everyone in the next few weeks i hope you accomplish whatever you set up to do. have great runs

kim

What do you all eat after a workout that doesn't make you feel like a pig? I need to go to the store and buy more fruits and veggies I think.

I usually eat a banana and drink a big glass of milk as soon as I finish a run. Some days that is enough to hold me until lunch. Some days I feel hungry all day after a run. On those hungry days, it is all I can do to keep from eating everything in the house.

I just make sure to start by eating healthy food. So I have a couple pieces of low fat cheese (protein makes you feel full) and a piece of fruit or a salad. I follow that with whatever I want. Drinking lots of water also helps you feel full.

On hungry days, I avoid going to the grocery store or to restaurants - thats WAY to tempting. If I do go to the grocery store it is almost 100% guaranteed that I will come home with fresh choclate eclairs from the bakery......

Txang - you asked about running with DH? My Dh is much faster than I am and we just decide before the race how we want to run it. Sometimes we run together and sometimes he waits for me at the finish. ONCE, I got to wait for him at the finish. Generally, we both have more fun when we run together. He gets an "easy" run and a good excuse for being slower than the other men. Nowadays though, I run alot further than he does, so we will see what the future brings.

Cecilia

Cecilia,
Im acutually the one who asked about the dh and i running together, thanks so much for your answer, i like your idea about deciding together before the race so then sometimes he gets his real workout in and sometimes he gets a slower but good workout in.

thanks so much

Dave - I missed the whole Boston thing! But I know you can do it! Look how far you have come in just a year! What is your qualifying time? Mine is 3:45:eek: ....isn't that sad that I know that? I think if I wait until I am 70, and I can kinda keep up my pace, I can qualify! :rotfl: :confused3 :rotfl:
Christa- my Boston qualifier for the 40yo age group is 3:20. Yeah, it's kind of pathetic that I know that for me too. Like I said, it's a lifelong goal, and I tell myself it takes small steps. My goal for my next full marathon is to run under 5 hours. Maybe you and I can run Boston together when we're 70. Actually, I'll be pretty pleased if I can keep up this running until I'm 70.

quick almost drive by

Terri:grouphug: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: I am so sorry to hear your bad news on your feet. Please keep us posted. What long-term affect do neuromas have?

I've been reading and have a million replies in my head but no time to do them.

Mel- once again you made me LOL in my quiet office. I had been reading people claiming to 'do the pig' without any difficulty until you wrote it's dangerous to come in mid-thread:rotfl2: That put a whole new twist on it:lmao:

Last week I got in four real workouts and a bunch of home recomb-bike. But the stupid thing has started clanging as if something is lose inside. It's only two weeks old, we threw away the box and I lost the receipt so we own it. Luckily with my 20% OFF coupon it was only $160

I did two runs: 4 miles in 44:50 on the TM .5% grade and 6 miles on the track yesterday (walk one lap, run one) with an avg pace of 14:00 and two upperbody weight sessions. I'm inching my way back up. Fitlynx gave one a 26K lb total (the other was at my work gym). Those guns are in production and should be refurbished soon:rotfl2: and two sessions on the elliptical.

Counting last week as week 1 of training, I could have a 15 week training schedule to "do the pig":jester: So I'm going over the check the pig thread now.

As for posting. I'm in agony:mad: I have a key-logger script running on my main pc to do a half dozen mundane operations on 100,000 files. It's quite cool, it looks like a ghost is running the machine, pulling down menus, typing in filenames, etc. but while it's running I can not use it for anything else. So I'm doomed to my laptop which only has intermitten network connection:mad: I'm missing all the fun!

two things learned: I clearly need to up the grade on the tm to simulate road pace. I absolutely CANNOT walk fast!

Sunny

Good morning TEAM!!!! Nothing to report, unlike my good and faithful husband who ran 10 miles yesterday, I did nothing. Oh well, I'm still recouping from the marathon, right? ;) I have the TM scheduled for today, I was supposed to go to the Community Center for the elliptical and weight lifting, but I walked off and left my bag at home. I guess I'm going to have to pack it and put it in my car the night before!

Sunny--Are you thinking about doing the Pig???? That would be AWESOME!!

Christa--Congrats on the shirt and the membership to the Mangum Track Club. I am very jealous. The best part of your team picture is the dog wearing the shirt, that cracked me up!!

Terri--Any word on your Achilles tendon yet???

Cecilia--How great about your daughter telling her friends that you are an athlete. I bet that made your day!!

Cam--Great job on your runs. You are getting speedy!!! Are you feet and hands fully healed yet?

Pat--So sorry about your Total Gym. But that is SO funny. Hines has done a lot of things, but he has not eaten exercise equipment. Yet.

TXAng--Ice baths. Ahh, the necessary evil! What I do is wear a sweatshirt and get into an empty bathtub and let the cold water fill in around me. I don't use ice at home, as our water is cold enough, but in Disney, after the marathon, Stephen filled up a garbage can full of ice for me. The water in WDW is not cold at all!! I also take a book in the tub with me, to distract me from the cold and I stay in for about 15-20 minutes.

Kim10110--WELCOME!!!! Dh Stephen (skfulkers) and I both run, but not together--we would be divorced! We usually train the same time at the same place, but rarely together. We never race together either, we both know that it's our personal race to run and we each respect that. Good luck finding the perfect balance for you!

Blueroses--Awesome job on your 11 miler! I take it you are not a brand new runner?

Stephanie--How are your legs feeling today?

Jen--I am the same way, when I don't run or do the elliptical, I get very moody and down feeling. I hope things work out for you and the marathon. By the way, great job on your 5 miler!

Jim--Congrats on your 20 miler!!!!

Bill, Monica, and Kristi--Hope you guys are feeling better!

Carrie--Krista 1, Carrie 0 ;) ;) ;)

Vic--Your boys are adorable!!! The black one (Earnhardt??) looks just like Hines. How old is he?

Mel
--I am so jealous that you were at WDW again! The P&P sounds like lots of fun, do you have any pics? We're going back in 103 days, but who's counting?? :)

Kim--Oh, do not use the hot tub after a run! That does bad things to your muscles!! The ice water actually stops the lactic acid build up (which causes the cramping) and gets the blood flowing to your muscles. Hot water does the opposite. It's okay to do hot water after the ice bath, but not before. Trust us on this one!!!!

Catching up from last week:

Pat - Only a true friend, and animal lover, could be concerned about the welfare of a dog who destroyed their room. :rotfl:

Craig & Dave - Thanks for the comments on my mental revalation. Boston? Maybe when I'm 65. :rotfl: It's hard for someone with a 5:40 pr in the mile and a 20:49 PR in teh 5K to realize that I'm not that girl and that, even if I were, a marathon's a horse of a different color. On the flip side, I run now for me. Not my tram, not my parents, not my coach. There's something about that that makes what I've done more amazing.

Martha - :lmao: It's fun to have someone here that thinks Craig is human. :rotfl: BTW, teh more I read, the more I think we need to be race buddies, seeing as you are no fan of heat either. :D

I had an awesome run on Saturday. Scott was sick, so it was solo. It felt so good to not be on the TM or on snow. I ran on dry back roads. It felt so good that I about die when I saw that my Garmin said 7:59. Yikes. I forced myself to slow down to 10. Ended up with a 10:03 first mile. Hmmm...Wonder if I can keep this up? Mile 2, 10:01. OK, I can taste that 10 mpm 4-miler now. If I do a 9:57 this mile, then I just have to do a 10 last mile. 9:52! Woo hoo! Let's see what we can do on this last mile. It was all straight so it's kind of decieiving in the fact that you seem like you are almsot done for an entire mile. I ended up with a 9:52 average, so I must have done ok!!! :rolleyes1

Scott and I are talking about doing teh Detroit Free Press hal fin October. He memntioned finding a WI run in teh fall, though, so I caould visit a very good friend. I was looking for a half, and found one in teh Fox Cities September run. However, teh full practically runs right by my friends house. I may have to reconsider. :rolleyes1 What have you people done to me????? :p

aladdinsgirl, you asked if I take icebaths after long runs. :scared1: I am way too much of a sissy for that. I do know not to linger in a hot shower afterwards.

I do not htink I would have made it to teh 06 marathon, if it weren't for cold tubs (I can't do ice). Here are a few tips Lily, Sunny, Lisa Lovves Pooh and I have come up with.

Cold Tubs for the Faint of Heart

1. Prepare hot beverage and have ready at the side of tub

2. Put on hooded sweatshirt and roll waitband up so that it does not get wet when in tub.

3. Fill the tub with luke warm water until it covers the bottom.

4. Get in.

5. Turn the water to cold and fill the rest of the way.

It's amazing how much this helps achy legs. After the first chilling experience :cold: , I knew it had done wonders and was hooked.

Carrie - 3, Krista - 1 :lmao:

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: To all those who are battleing illness. DH has already missed 2 runs and has told me hwe will miss the first run of this week too. :( I'm glad I don't have to fight nim on missing runs, but that tells me he's really sick. Hope everyone's doing better soon!

Cam - Way to go on "craving" the run. Your feet must be doing much better!

Gosh, I missed a ton opf people. Must get better on keeping up. I did finally get the Chritmas trees down this weekend, though! :p

Vic--Your boys are adorable!!! The black one (Earnhardt??) looks just like Hines. How old is he?

Krista - Earnhardt is the black one. He'll be 6 on 24 Feb. Not quite sure how old Dusty is, so we celebrate his birthday on the 24th as well. :)

Kim10110 – I don’t find it hard to workout with DH when we’re at the gym. When we each have our own treadmill, we can go our own paces, but still be together. But when we go out for our workouts? Yeah, that can get tough. His stride is WAY longer than mine!

He says that for now, he doesn’t mind staying with me (even during races), since I’m way more of a novice than he is, and he doesn’t want to leave me in the dust and have me get discouraged. I think after we have a bit more experience, though, that we’ll be ok with parting during training and races.

I know, not much help, huh? I see that others have way better answers than me!

Carrie--where does your friend live in WI??? The Fox Cities Marathon also ran right by our old house. Not to tempt you anymore--but that course is SUPER FLAT!!! Congrats on your run this weekend!

Christa--I completely forgot to congratulate you on your run! Love the t-shirt!

Well, I ended up having a gym enforced x-training day. I knew there was a reson I normally wait until 9 to hit the cardio room--but I had to go early this morning--I get there and everything was being used but a bike--so I set the bike for 20 min. just to see if a TM would open up. So, I ended up doing 20min/10miles on the bike and 20 min/2.25miles on the Tm--then headed to hte weight room.

Gotta go hit the shower and then find hte kiddos some lunch!

Godd morning team!

I did 4.2 miles on the TM this morning at 44:00 so I was pleased. You all have inspired me to up my maintenaince LR Monday to 4 miles and today I did it!:cheer2: I also booked my air and hotel for the Minnie. No backing out now:laughing: (not that I would have!)

Happy Training :dance3:

Kim10110 - DH and I began trainign together fro teh 2006 marathon. It was tough. He's naturally faster than me. He would get way ahead of me if he did not concentrate on slowing down (Crossing a street, running around a puddle, just about anythign distracted him) People here know that I had ah ard itme withthat when I was struggling to keep up and he would just run away from me. However, I kept him from going out way too fast. Last year, he wanted to keep wlaking after teh water station at mile 20. I kept him going. he told me to go ahead. I replied, "No way! You stayed with me all year. I'm not leaving you behind now." From 20 oin, it was back and forth who was stronger than who. Sticking together during the marathon did wonders for my attitude towards training with him last year. I could take it much better when he accidentally left me behind, although we still had our moments. ;) This year, I would nto have finished without him, as I do not do heat well. It can be very hard. It helps to do some solo runs evry now and then to see what you can do on your own, wihtout the pressure to keep up with someone else. I also tell him to slow down now when he leaves me. It's not easy, but it is so worth it come race day for us. Good luck!

Laurie and all: Thanks for asking about my back.

I was cross-training on Saturday morning with a 45 lb. weight, kneeling on the weight bench and lifting up with my right arm when something went :headache: "Boing".... in my lower right back area. :confused3 It hurt immediately and since then it has gotten even worse. The pain is constant and has widened out a bit. The pain is pervasive. I am taking Advil Liquid-gels (when I remember to bring them with me - duh) and it takes the edge off.

Luckily I do not have anything requiring major exertion planned for the next few days or weeks. I hope it heals up quickly, I would like to get back to the gym before my classes start up again on February 6.

The massage was good and it helped the other night... I think I need some more rest, relaxation and TLC. :rolleyes1

:grouphug:

Howard

Vic--That is very sweet about Earnhardt and Dusty's birthdays. They are lucky to have such great parents. :) Hines will be 2 on April 14. My puppy is growing up!!!

Morning all!!!

So I just read through all 33 pages of last week and everything of this week (while simultaneously working and completing and anthropology paper, so more like closely skimmed....). Some thoughts.....

--> :welcome: to all the new folks!!!

--> Mel-- WTG on registering for the full!! Stick with us, you'll be just fine!!

--> Thanks to everyone who posted their Goofy training ideas. There is a lot of goof information in there!!

--> I CAN NOT BELIEVE that you all had a bra/cup size discussion without me. I mean really....... :rolleyes1

--> Terri-- :wizard: Hope you feel better soon!!

--> Pat-- Holy cow!! Did the dog at least burn a few calories in the process?? ;)

--> Steve-- There is but one person in this group who can pull off zebra tights..... and that person is me.

I apoligize for not being able to post sooner--- the past couple of weeks my life has kind of gone off the rails. It began with dealing with some significant work nonsense that was intense stressful, followed immedately by the passing of a co-worker that I've known for about 5 years. He had bravely fought brain cancer for 20 months before he passed, but it has been difficult nonetheless. The sum result for me has been some real evaluation of a lot of things in my life (as one is oft to do in these situations) and it has been really eye-opening in a lot of ways.

I suprised myself by being very vigilant about my workouts through all of this-- 5 days a week for the past two weeks, including some treadmill runs-- and that was a big help. Things feel much more back to normal this week, so I fear you'll be seeing a lot more of me :)

Well, back to the grind for now---
Take Care,
Kevin :earsboy:

Hey everybody-just checking in to see how everyone is doing. Today is a rest day for me, so I will just take it easy this afternoon.

cam-I know the feeling about craving a workout. I feel that way today, but I have to remind myself that my body needs rest days also. So, I will have to wait until tomorrow to workout. But, I love that feeling of craving a workout!! Great job going two days in a row!!

bill-Glad to hear you are feeling better!

Scott-Great job on your TM workout!! Keep up the good work!

Christa--18 degrees is COLD!! I hate the cold weather, anything below about 25 is too cold for me!! But, I guess we just have to bundle up and get out there! To me, it doesn't seem so cold once I get going, after I get over the initial shock of how cold it really is!

kim-Good Luck with your training with you are on duty. Keep in touch!

Dave--You can definetely do Boston someday. You have come so far already, just keep up the hard work and you can do it!! And, I hope we are all running like this when we are 70!!

Sunny--Sounds like you have gotten in some good workouts. There will be some very happy people here when they hear you may join them for the Pig!

Carrie--way to go on the sub-10 min pace!!

Vicki--Great job on the workout! Isn't it exciting when you book the air and hotel for something...to me that makes it all more real!! Keep up the good work!

Ok, gotta get back to work!

I will check in later on today!
