Wk of Jan 15--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi All!

I just registered for the DL half :cool1: I am still not sure how I am going to work out the details, as it stands now I will be coming by myself - although DH might be able to get the time off to come with me. The CM at the WDW Expo promised that there is easy transportation from LAX to DL. Where is everyone staying?? I felt very safe staying on WDW property by myself, not so sure about in CA. If I am by myself I will be limited to budget choices. I guess I should hop on over to the DL forum and check it out. Is there a list of DL participants anywhere?

Oh....I should acknowledge my youngest DS....the DL half weekend will also be his sophomore year move in weekend at Ohio State....he told me to go ahead and go to DL, he'll handle his move in details with his father. He has grown up to be such a nice man. I don't know how that happened so quickly, it seems like just yesterday he was holding my hand as we walked in the preschool door, and now he is all grown up. Actually all my kids have been very supportive of my training efforts (they have all been pretty athletic) I think they are getting a kick out of their very UNathletic mom turning into a JOCK (ok - that is a SLIGHT exaggeration - but you know what I mean!) :hyper:

Hi, everyone!!!! :sunny: It's good to be back on the Wish boards, I just wish I could say the same about work. :teeth: I'm feeling the post-marathon, I've got to do something frenzy, but I still haven't done anything worth talking about. I guess I did walk about 6 miles a day every day last week in the World, does that count as something? Stephen and I are running the Country Music 1/2 Marathon on April 29th (Tiffany, are you running that too?), this weekend is 14 weeks out to start training for that, so I guess I'll get my fix soon enough. Oh, and did I mention that I'm 99% positive that I'm running the full next year? :scared1: I'm either running the half or the full, but I'm pretty sure I want that Mickey medal!! Stephen is going Goofy next year and both of my parents are doing the half. We've got the fever!! :teeth:

MelR, Christa, and Lisa--I totally know the great baby debate! Stephen and I have been married 5 years, I'm 27 years old, I'm like let's go!! I think Stephen keeps talking me into races to give himself another year of freedom. :rotfl:

Carrie--I'm glad to see that you decided to run again next year. Right after the full, I know you were a little discouraged and swore, never again, I'm glad to see that you are feeling better. It was great to meet you and Scott, I'm glad that the picture I took turned out!! :)

Mel--Here We Go Steelers, Here We Go!!!!  Can you tell how psyched I am?? :hyper:

I better go, I'll check in once I actually do something physical. Talk to you later! Happy training!! :sunny:

Krista :cutie:

I'm just back from the Y. I did 9.5 milies in 92 minutes and it was totally intoxicating. I don't know how long this post-race euphoria will last but I'm loving it. I think there are two reasons running is so great right now: 1) I know I don't have to do it, 2) I zone out and play back the race in vivid color. I can remember it so much better while I'm running on the TM. I think I have a ridiculous grin on my face the whole time!

MelR-- Plan you babies carefully! I went back to school and put off have my second for 10 1/2 years. Now I have a 5 yo and a 16 yo. Let me tell you, it is not the way to do it! I have to take them on separate outings, separate vacations, etc. because they are in such difference developmental stages. Its hard. And DD is NOT a built in babysitter as some might think  If you go down the baby path you'll be so excited about the little bundle of joy that you'll gladly do all the extra work it takes to climb/run/bike, etc.! Good luck on your decision. (BTW I was 36 when DS was born).

I told DH about the Chicago race. Looks like a great course by the way. I told him if they didnt want to come I could just stay at Lizdotcom's house. First he said "who's Liz" then he said "yea right" I told him she was having a WISH slumber party for the race. He thinks I have completely lost all my marbles!!! There was a story on some show (20/20 or something like that) about internet perverts meeting up with young kids for inappropriate reasons. I told him I "think" Liz is a woman. I haven't met her but other WISHers have :teeth:
Tiff, Lily had no clue who I was last year either and she made it home alive! She even spent the night at my house. :rotfl2: Lily can also attest to the fact that I am a woman...so join us! You have nothing to lose but missing out on a good time.

And Tiff, I have had the same conversation with my DH about meeting a bunch of DISers at a hotel in Chicago. It was a great weekend and I was so happy that I took the chance and made some of my best friends ever....Lily being one of those very special people!

:sunny:

Liz...good to see you hanging out around here again :flower: How's your dad?

Sunny...I know what you mean. My girls are 10 years apart because of a few years of grad school in between. It was really weird starting allover with a baby again. We're trying to plan a daytrip for the Everest preview for DD13 that DD2 doesn't attend.

Krista...I thought of you through that whole game. It was a wild one...bet Bettis would like to have that fumble back ;)

Pat...congrats on DL! There's a group here planning to go...I saw something about registering at the Candy Cane Inn for a hotel. I'm already envying the castle medal y'all will come back with

Minnie... :wizard: PD for PT!

Liz- I have thought about the Chicago Distance Classic over the past few days and I have decided to do it. I think it will be fun to do it with a group of Disers. I have also put out posts on two of the cruise boards I belong to- seeing if anyone wants to join. I will be walking. I went out and found a REALLY cute neon lime green tank running set by Nike that I plan on wearing...Disers beware- you will know who I am. :rotfl2: If your house is over flowing- I have two extra bedrooms and I live roughly 1 hour out from downtown. Sounds like fun- I'm already excited!

I am really in awe reading all of the posts by the other members here. You guys are really impressive! The pictures have been great and I have enjoyed looking at them. Thank you for sharing your info and stories!

Sunny - If I am even able to get preg. again, I would be 36 (at least when I had the baby.) We were married for 10 yrs b/4 we ever got preg with Wesley (you know, the boy). I actually did a search to see if anyone has ever run a marathon pregnant! They have. I think I'm just going to register for whichever races i want to do and not worry about it! We can't even decide about whether we want anymore anyway (not that it is ultimately up to us!!!)

I will prob register for the full for next year. I've already been begging my sis-in-law to come with me!!! I won't do goofy next year b/c that would take up 2 full days and I am with lisa as far as some of the issues on the 1/2. I think I'll have pay for this last trip b/4 I commit for the next one!!

Hey, nobody has volunteered to come for the feb race!!!!!

Liz...good to see you hanging out around here again :flower: How's your dad?

My dad is doing great! Thanks for asking. He has decided that radiation was something he wanted to pursue. He has 45 sessions of being "zapped" as he calls it and says it is not so bad. I am glad to see he is happy about his decsion. He told us if he starts to feel worse rather than better he can change his mind....and we all agreed.

It is nice to be with you guys again....gearing up for a race can be very trying at times....as you all well know. Great job on teh Disney thing everybody! You all make me so proud!

Yeah! Glad you will be joining us! It really is a great race. I will be walking at a pretty slow pace...I like to "enjoy" the race...OK truth be told, I am REALLLY slow but I do have a good time. I am also working on shirts too....but your oh so cute outfit sounds perfect! And it would be nice to think that my house will be overflowing with DISers...and you are welcome to come to. It is going to be a party after all! Oh, and this year they are promising something special at the Chicago Distance Classic....we won't know what that is until the announcement on February 1.....so stay tuned!

Off and running to work....this talk of babies is :scared1: Good luck on the preggers thing though ladies....and have fun trying :teeth:

Have a great day! :flower3:

Oh details Mel---how late can you safely do a marathon pregnant?
Running a marathon pregnant? COOL! Ron said he saw a lady walking/running one @ 7 months. Very Evil Queen if I say so myself! :rotfl2: I don't think I would recomend it though. So much stress on the body!
I did high impact step, biked and walked at a very fast pace up until the day I delivered my DD7. I think it helped too...it took me only 2 hours of labor. Only 1 hour with DD5 (great story). Almost didn't make it to hosp.
Bree is dealing with this issue too. I am finished having children though. ::yes::
Christa

Sunny & Chimera - My family is similar to yours. I have dd 15, ds 3.5, ds 1.5 - and you are so right about dd not being a built in sitter!

Liz & Celeste - I am also in on the chicago distance classic. I plan on walking too, I don't think I would be ready to run yet. I will have to find my self some lime green. Never thought I would be so excited about wearing lime green. ::yes::

Lisa - As a medical professional (cardiac nurse) I belive it does count as cross trianing! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Gosh, I get exhausted just reading all these tri posts. You guys are amazing! :worship:

Tiff - Thanks for the support. I feel like such a beginer around here. I need all the ensouragement I can get. :upsidedow

I had my second last post-op appt with Dr. Hunk-a-Hunk-a Burning Love yesterday (In case you don't know, thats my drop dead handsome orthopedic surgeon. Ladies...it's worth wrecking your knee over. Trust me on this one. :faint: )

The good part was he tested my knee and said it was "rock solid". But, when I told him about training for the half he told me to make sure I wear my brace for that. Umm, sorry Dr. Feelgood, but NO WAY! NO WAY!

For all of you who just did it - isn't the course all on mostly level pavement?? I ain't wearing no stinking brace!

I realize this is waaay premature, but is anyone giving any thought to where they are staying at WDW next January? You know me, the way too compulsive planner, I'm already thinking about it.

Oh and BTW, good to know I am already WAAAAY ahead on the cross-training! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

DId my 30 min last night. It's getting easier, but I still have manuy aches and pains.

Krista's right. I did not foresee myself doing another one. Scott told me to give it a few days and I thought he was nuts. Now I'm excited for next year. I think a lot of it is the group here. :grouphug:

Krista - That picture means the world to me. Thank you for taking it. My mom and dad who killed themselves to get down btwn dad's chemo treatments and left right after we finished and my cousin that I was never close to due to age gaps and a large family that came 2.5 hours to get there, joked baout having to get by 6 and really got up at 4 (yikes) and is telling the whole family what a great time she had. I can't thank you enough for taking that picture for us!

WWAAHHHH!!! I am suffering from the dreaded post-Goofy cold!! I did have my first run yesterday and it felt great. Today I walked 3 miles and I am hitting the gym at lunch for weights.

MelR - Thanks for the tip on the marathon pic. I will check that out. My kids are quite spaced out at 15, 8 & 4 and there are challenges involved. Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.

WDWFAN9 - I am staying at either the Candy Cane Inn or the Best Western Park Place Inn for the DL 1/2. I know Heather (TxBelle) is at the Hyatt and Helen (littlegreydonkey) is at the Candy Cane also. Congats for signing up.

Judy-- I've already made my reservations for next January at the Polynesian-- I haven't stayed there in YEARS, so I thought I would enjoy it-- I may switch that though, I'm thinking of the Grand Floridian or Beach or Yacht Club-- I'll probably stay an additional few days at SSR too with my DVC points!

I've learned a very valuable lesson the last few days-- I learned NOT to over train!!! I've been doing a combination run/walk for months (more running than walking), but I am always exhausted, don't want to do it, and never make any improvements on time or anything!

I recently switched to the MFM walk/run schedule (more walking than running)-- it's amazing how different it is!! I can walk at a faster pace and run at a faster pace! So, even though I'm not running as much, I actually beat my time per mile this morning than I would have gotten in my old way!! It's amazing! And the best part is that I enjoy doing it more, so I'm not super-tired and ready to go back to bed after every run, and I enjoy getting up (at 5 AM) to get into my workout!!

Congratulations to all who participated in the 1/2 and full.

I have a question Im sure it is simple but have been looking and looking but cant seem to find the answer.

I did the 1/2 and My Placement Overall was 9610 and Gender F 5562. What was the estimated # of people in the 1/2?

Thanks

Angela

Looks like 11,761 finished. If you serch by gender or division, just above teh listing it will tell you how many in that group.
