Running a marathon pregnant? COOL! Ron said he saw a lady walking/running one @ 7 months. Very Evil Queen if I say so myself! :rotfl2: I don't think I would recomend it though. So much stress on the body!
I did high impact step, biked and walked at a very fast pace up until the day I delivered my DD7. I think it helped too...it took me only 2 hours of labor. Only 1 hour with DD5 (great story). Almost didn't make it to hosp.
Bree is dealing with this issue too. I am finished having children though. ::yes::
Christa

Well I wasn't looking to be goofy! :teeth:

Was just looking for general info--like an oopsy during training (all though it wouldn't really be an oopsy :hyper: )

Gosh, I get exhausted just reading all these tri posts. You guys are amazing! :worship:

Tiff - Thanks for the support. I feel like such a beginer around here. I need all the ensouragement I can get. :upsidedow

I had my second last post-op appt with Dr. Hunk-a-Hunk-a Burning Love yesterday (In case you don't know, thats my drop dead handsome orthopedic surgeon. Ladies...it's worth wrecking your knee over. Trust me on this one. :faint: )

The good part was he tested my knee and said it was "rock solid". But, when I told him about training for the half he told me to make sure I wear my brace for that. Umm, sorry Dr. Feelgood, but NO WAY! NO WAY!

For all of you who just did it - isn't the course all on mostly level pavement?? I ain't wearing no stinking brace!

I realize this is waaay premature, but is anyone giving any thought to where they are staying at WDW next January? You know me, the way too compulsive planner, I'm already thinking about it.

Oh and BTW, good to know I am already WAAAAY ahead on the cross-training! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Why would you refuse to wear a brace? Ask him what you need to stabilize and then look for the best thing. I swore by my cho-pat. Kept the knee cap in place and made me a bit comfortable running on the operated upon knee.

You may have a strong knee--but the reasoning behind the brace would be able to protect it from something beyond your control--a sudden wobble or a misstep.

Must keep the body healthy and if it requires wearing gear, then vanity must step aside to injury prevention.

Not wearing a brace could make you not get to the starting line.

Just something to ponder.

ETA: Just remembered--didn't you say you had the meniscus surgery and maybe even ACL--a young woman at my PT (HIGH SCHOOL) had a new ACL installed (sounds like a car doesn't it?). She plays soccer. She is 5 months post op and permitted to play. Strength not yet 100% in that leg (and she's got some serious quads to catch up to). She will be wearing that funky brace thing for at least one more year. When engaging in sporting activities, it is best to do precisely as told--especially if you are cleared and they say..."but make sure you do....". If you don't do what your supposed to do....as I said--you could be facing heartbreak later this year if you reinjure or aggravate the knee.

I'm 3 months post op and I still wear the ugly compression sock (cut just for the knee though). I tried exercising once without it and it was a big mistake. My knee ballooned up and let me know who's boss.

Liz & Celeste - I am also in on the chicago distance classic. I plan on walking too, I don't think I would be ready to run yet. I will have to find my self some lime green. Never thought I would be so excited about wearing lime green. ::yes::

Yeah!!! More people are joining are group! Can't wait to meet everybody!!! Here is a link for shirts.....the plan is to use them for Columbus and Chicago....I am working on getting shirt prices and all that jazz....so take a look HERE and let me know what you think!!

Just a quick little tidbit......and it is ALL Cam's fault! Amazon now has teh Garmis 201 for $99.99 and free super saver shipping.....you will never guess what Cam made me buy tonight....although Lily also has has a bit of influence as well. Man, I just LOVE this FREE sport!!!

The price for the Garmins should be coming down soon for the 201 and 301. The reason: they are coming out with new models, the 205 and 305. They have improved the antenna, changed the form to look more like a watch and did some other display changes that people usually complain about. It would seem that they will start phasing out the 201 and 301 to get everyone to buy the new models.

Mel- great website for the tri gear. Great-more stuff to buy :teeth: I was already wondering what to wear for the tri.

For you tri geeks-when you wear the same thing for the run & bike that you wore for the swim (no time/place to take off swimsuit) does it not chaffe?

How much support do the tri tops provide? I need alot for running!

Hey Welcome to the club!

Reminds you of those get rich quick schemes doesn't it?

It's free once you have all your gear. :teeth:

wfloyd--that's good to hear. Stocking stuffers for next year for me!

So I went swimming yesterday--oh my goodness...I was so afraid to kick and pop the knee. Egads!!! PT advised that when I do get back in to take it slow. I was being passed by the slow swimmers :scared: . The good news is I can now once again do the breast stroke kick. In the months leading up to surgery this became a new found no can do for me as it hurt and the knee popped and such. Well it didn't yesterday. I think I may cross train a bit in the water--that may help strengthen everything as well.

Have a good day everyone!

:flower2:

Tiff - I wore a tankini top that didn't chaffe on the swim. I had a sugoi top that i ran in all the time, but it chaffed me on the swim and the swimsuit top did fine (i pretty much don't need any support though!)

Lynn - there are lots of flights into NWA (Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport!) COME ON!!

I'm still in the process of looking through the marathon lost and found pics (yes they are finally up) and I found some good one's so far (i'm up to 11,000) Here is what I have found

8162-1027-006
8162-2536-035 bree-a really pretty pic!!!
8162-2101-012 sara

I found a bunch of me. I felt so good during the marathon, but I run SO FUnNY!!!!

Rest day for me!!! Have a great day everyone!

tri gear- check out www.desotosport.com also. They are running some great sales as the 2006 line comes out in March. They are a sponsor for the Army tri team so I've seen the 2006 dealer catalog and besides the new bike shorts there aren't alot of changes in the line so the 2005 stuff at huge savings is nice.

yes you wear the same stuff all race. tri suits/separates have smaller chamois(sp?) than a pair of dedicated bike shorts to supposedly make them more comfortable for running and to hold less water from the swim. that being said I've done races wearing my Pearl Izumi bike shorts and had no problems with running in them. I actually prefer a bike style short for support running with the compression. while I have raced in the bike shorts, it is an occasional thing and not routine though. I have a Speedo Aquablade that is used for sprint/off road stuff and a Sugoi skin suit for long distance racing. Neither will be used much this year as I will be racing in an Army tri club suit that I think are made by Louis Garneau. chafing isn't really much worse than it can be for just plain running but there is a reason that triathletes swear by bodyglide. lessons learned through the years: take the time to put on socks for most events- definitely worth it to lose 10 sec putting on socks in transition rather than 2 minutes to bleeding messes that were blisters, chips on nylon straps are bad news unless you want nice circumferential scars around 1 ankle- is why I bought my own chip but it's cheaper to just own a neoprene strap. those are the biggies right now but I'll probably run across more when I start racing again the end of Apr.

tri tops- not necessarily terribly supportive but frequently seen solution is to just wear a more supportive top underneath like a sports bra or swim bikini. I race long distance stuff in a skinsuit/powersuit/unitard type thing and you have to wear something under those as they have no support and full length upper body front zippers.

Okay, this is probably more info than you wanted. the team estrogen site is a good starting point to see everything together but many of their prices were a little high. exception- Ironman wetsuits and some other stuff on the sale/closeout pages. triathlon doesn't even pretend to be a free sport so we need to conserve money wherever we can, right?

Jodi--on a bad day call and say you need same day urgent care. Call me naughty, but that is what I do. I mean--go running and so...oooh owww oooh---what did I do?

Don't tell 'em LLP sent ya! ;)

Lisa - I'm definitely going to do that! It's either that or going to the ER & sitting around for 4 hours. I want to get to the bottom of this & start running again. This CT on stair masters & ellipticals just isn't cuttin' it.

8162-1169-028 Looks like Lily in the back
8162-1214-023 This one too
8162-1331-020 Again

OMG this New York weather will make a person :crazy2: !! 59 degrees this morning!

Lisa - Yes, I had an alograph, however you spell it. It was an ACL replacement. So yes, I have some dead person's ACL in my knee. Which at first freaked me out, but since I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new knee, I've come to terms with it. Plus I am very grateful to the donor. ::yes:: I totally understand the brace issue, and believe me, as handsome as my surgeon is, I do NOT want to go thru that again. I am thinking I will try a compression brace instead of this huge custom-made space age materials thing with four straps of velcro. I don't think I need anything on the TM, but for outside he wants me in something. Thanks for your advice. :goodvibes

BTW, where's Cam lately????

Judy

Good to hear Honeibee--that girl I mentioned had a cool one--very fancy and a soft rose pink (and it matched my cell phone LOL!).

I would double check his concern to see how likely you are to wobble and reinjure outdoors--if it is minimal, go with a compression and/or simple brace. But if the conern is high--you may have to suck it up :(.

Maybe it will be cold and you can wear pants and noone will notice! ;)

Lisa -

Had I known I was going to be so involved in WISH I would have ordered it in Lime Green, but it's periwinkle. :teeth: I don't care about vanity (Oh please, you should see me when I ride. Thank goodness my horse doesn't care what I look like either! :rotfl2: ) But I think for 13.1 miles that brace wil be darn annoying. But we'll see. I have a lot of time to try it out and also get the compression brace.

Judy

If it helps--I know she took it off for her gym workouts--but I think she wears it just whne she plays--and of course in soccer--it would be easy to blow out a knee a second time.

I ran with compression (necessary) and a cho-pat brace. The brace was more for my own personal comfort of feeling like it was protected from twisting or any sudden jerky moves that wouldn't harm a regular person. It got to where I felt better with it on and when it was off I felt like a fish out of water.

Never have worn the astronaut gear--so I'm sure it is bulky and uncomfy.

I was just suggesting you not go with a *naked* knee, KWIM?

:)

Judy

I'm here! :crazy2: <------- This is Cam scrambling into the thread, after what seems like HOURS of being told first that the server was too busy at the moment and then that the server could not be found! *@#$%@&^ server! It's not like I was ordering a lapu lapu or a kungaloosh or anything like that! :rotfl2: Just looking for a place to hang out with my favorite WISHers!

So, here's the thing. I am doing the Minnie with Rhonda in May (DD17 wants to go. I'm still debating that one). Now I am pretty much committed to doing the Chicago Distance Classic in August with Liz and Lily and whoever we can convince to join us (maybe David and Denise?) and then the DL 1/2 in September, and then . . . . I cannot believe I am saying this (yes, again, but a little more firmly this time) the FULL in January! I figure if I could lose another 30 pounds this year and really work on strength and core training, I could probably make this the most exciting 367 days of my entire life. What do you guys think?

BTW, Honeibee, in case you didn't hear amazon has the Garmin 201 on sale right now for 99.99 with free shipping. I twisted Liz's arm last night (I am from Joisey you know! :teeth: ) and she finally ordered one! Isn't your birthday coming soon? ::yes::

Cam!

You go girl! The full next January! Awesome.....actually I have been toying with going with the full next January too. I am planning on the Chicago half in August and am registered for the DL half in Sept. I've looked at the MFM training schedule for the full, and it does give me pause. I walked exclusively at the WDW half, just am not sure I could walk the full. BUT...that Mickey medal was so darn amazing. It is very, very tempting.

Oh Cam....... :worship: :worship: :worship: for doing the full and    for me not being able to do the Half with you. Ahh, thats what I get for starting a year too late. :upsidedow

Oh yes, don't you worry, I have already sent the link to Amazon to DH. I will certainly remind him too as soon as I get home.

Although, alas, I hear we have no electric, along with 35,000 other people near me. So I hope he ordered it today at work.

OMG! I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING!!! :scared1:

No electricity means no TREADMILL! :faint: Oh no, this is a SERIOUS problem! :scratchin
