Christa - this bike has me soooo interested now!!! You must post a pic. I will not mock it (her) though, I have had several cromoly steel "trusty steeds" and I figure my legs are in better shape for lugging those heavy bikes around!!
Colleen and other toenail loosers - I feel your pain. I lost two big toenails on a hike 2 yrs ago and thus began the toe nail saga. Phil had to actually remove one for me. He had to give me a shot in the toe and everything!! Thankfully, he is a good Dr., b/c I'm not a very good patient. Just as those 2 grew back (quite normally, i might add) I did that 25k up the mt. last yr and lost one on my 2nd toe r. foot. It grew back in ok (not perfect) and then I lost it on again on a long rainy adventure race b/c of bad shoes!!! I now have them all and didn't loose any for goofy or the 50k, so I'm feeling pretty good. You can actually paint the nail bed b/c it is hard (obviously after the nail is all the way off) It doens't take very long for the little ones to grow back to a normal paintable level. It just means you are really tough!!
On a similar note, phil and i went mt. biking yesterday. I biked really well. We took and change of clothes b/c we wanted to go to the mall while the boy was in preschool and look for clothes (for us) When i looked in the mirror, i realized how aweful i looked and then figured out why the girl in the store was not too zealous aoubt helping me. Anyway, i told phil it was hard to be a tough athlete and glamourous at the same time!!!!! He was quite kind in his response (kindof like christa's dh) but i am dressed nicely and wearing make up today!!!
Oh, yeah, one more thing, the toenail thing is what sparked the enitre "summer of femininity" last summer. I wasn't feeling too girly w/ the toe issue and decided I should at least dress like one!!!! It's just not as easy to be comfortable and femine inthe winter. It is also why I often ride in a riding skort and am considering getting a running skirt from triks!
