Wk of Feb 4--WISH Walking/Running Club

Hello, my fellow team mates!!

Lily, so sorry to read of your back pain. Hope the epi is doing its job for you. Just don't overdo and get an injury on top of Arthur!!:earsboy:
Kim, doing the half in Sept is definitely doable. I started training in January and did the Disney half in September and then WDW in January and I'm a walker.:sunny:
Cam, you are doing so well! I am amazed at how you get everything done and keep on IMPROVING!!:woohoo:
MouseDogMom/Jackie, so proud of you!! You have really been getting those steps in!! So glad you have Judy to help ya!:hyper2:
LisaLovesPooh/Lisa and crzy4pooh/Lynnda, LOVE seeing those babies getting closer to making their appearances!! Lynnda, I hope Bill is going to take pictures of you waddling across that 5K finish line!!;) You can tell the little one that he was already in training!:bitelip:
KristiRED(:lmao: ), and just WHY is it that you haven't had your sister enter your name in for the Minnie contest??!! (I know we have others hoping to be the winner there, also...). You MUST have sleep in order to train AND lose weight, kiddo.:cutie:
I'd much rather snuggle in bed with my Hines for an extra hour!!!!
For our newbies, Hines is the dog...we had a problem with misunderstanding that last year:rotfl2:
Krista, WONDERFUL that you are running w/o IT trouble. You have done an awesome job in patiently rehabing it!:thumbsup2
chimera/Mel, glad the test is done with. Use that to justify a new GARMIN! :cheer2:
Matt, You really were FLYING over those bridges!! Fantastic job! I'll see ya in Albany in 3 weeks! You just blow me away doing that and driving back to do Seaside..ahhhhh.. youth! I'll do the Mardi Gras Half next year. We'll be in a truck float on Tuesday.
plutosmyfav/Sunny, Your dr.'s appt is on Mardi Gras! I have it on my calendar to check back with you then...Are you REALLY taking it easy?
wtpclc/Carrie, so glad that you have healed up..physically and spiritually!! and that you got back on that horse (as Judy would say!).
MelRhoads/Melissa, (see? I pay attention, too!) I was thinking about your all girls tri and then you posted the invitation. That was just so cool and can't wait to hear the report from this year!!
Pig People, You know, we MUST have a group shot...with noses!!:rotfl:
For our snowbound members...:beach: think warm thoughts..Spring is coming!!

I think I finally hit upon a solution to keeping up with this thread AND getting stuff done. I take a "mini" break and only read 1 page and then make myself finish something before taking another break...it's just soooo hard (betcha can't read just one!)!:sad2:

Did my 6 miler last Saturday in 32 degrees (thought about ya, Matt and Cheryl!). I am such a cold weather walker!! Thought about Christa and her electric smile as I put my hat and gloves on. Just walked in a long sleeve tech shirt and sweatpants..it was GREAT. 14:30 pace which is good for me. Going to try working with race walking after the half in March. Forgot to mention that I think I actually experienced wogging for the first time! I was trying to push myself to go as fast as I could, and I found myself kindof walking/jogging..it was AWESOME! :goodvibes Anne

For our newbies, Hines is the dog...we had a problem with misunderstanding that last year:rotfl2:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Yes, Hines is my dog (see my siggie pic) and Stephen (skfulkers) is my husband!!!

Thanks, Anne!!!!

By the way, GREAT job on your 6 miler!! That is an awesome pace!

I would love to be added to the group here is my story:

I was a cross country runner in high school and in college. After college I did not do a whole lot of running and of course I began to gain weight. During my running days I competed in events all the way up to half marathons (best time of 2:23) and triathlons but I never did a full marathon. Over the past several years I have on the diet yo yo. Losing and gaining losing and gaining. During those times I started running again and set the Disney marathon as my goal. Really for two reasons. 1. I thought it would be fun and 2. I grew up only an hour from Disney and have always been a bug Disney fan.

Well, I set my sights on 2007. As the year went along I knew that I needed to get going on my training but I never seemed to be able to get consistent with it. To make a long story short I still ran this January. My longest run leading up to the big day was 8 miles and I only did that twice. In fact I don't think I averages over 25 miles a week for the past year. Oh, I forgot to mention I weighed in at 250 before the race. Probably should not have tried the run but I wasn't going to waste $100. Did it finished (5:12:31) and now I am hooked and ready to really get serious for training.

I know that I will stick to it with WISH on my side I will be ready for 2008 and I will lose the lbs. and keep them off this time. Shooting for 4:30 next year.

Looking forward to becoming part of the group

Okay, here's the boo-hoo for me post. I thought that yesterday that I was coming down with a bug--well today solidified that thought. Since Iwas able to go ahead with my workout yesterday, I figured I'd give it a go today. I couldn't even walk 2 miles w/o severe GI pain. I ended up leaving in tears!:sad1: DH is coming home early from work today so I can go rest. It seems that the gods are working against me this week. If I'm feeling better tomorrow, I still plan on attempting my 20 on Sat. Send some PD this way for me!

My girlfriend and I went on an hour snow shoe walk, it's was so beautiful. We started out around 5:45pm and still had light, but as we got deeper into the forrest it got really dark..thank goodness I had my head flashlight on, but still with the trees blocking the stars, it got dark and spooky. Anyway it wal alot of fun and we hope to do it again next week. :thumbsup2

Krista Thanks for the Birthday Wishes!!! (not that I'm counting years anymore!! :rotfl: ) I have to remember to call my mom and wish her a Happy Birthing day!!!

Thanks also for 'splainin Hanes!!

:hippie:

I really hate running in the cold, but I understand you burn a few more calories thru :shivering: bbbbrrrrrrrrrr I do like the change of seasons this area brings... but are we sure the Groundhog is right? I sure could use a sign of Spring hereabouts now!! :cool2:

Hey guys! Just wanted to pop in and say hi. I've been crazy busy with work the past two weeks (started in a new department and I'm trying to figure out how to keep my head above water), so I haven't really gotten a chance to keep up with everyone.

Training's going fine. Ok, it's a little off because I ran way too hard last weekend and felt a little pain in my knee, but I seem to be recovering well.

I really need to read the thread this week and catch up with everyone. I may try to do that tonight.

Just wanted to let you all know I hadn't died and am still thinking about everyone, even if I can't be on here every hour (which would be my preference, but no one here at work asked me :thumbsup2 ).

Take care and keep up the good training!

Steve

Hey, today is our 7th anniversary! Although DH is not a Disney fan:eek: :: he's still a keeper.:love: :cloud9:

Judy - it is central NY, specifically the Tug Hill Plateau that is getting all the snow. So far, I have been lucky and been on the fringes. We are supposed to get 2 feet tonight and more over the weekend to go with the 4 feet we already have. I usually only have to shovel my deck once during the winter. It was shoveled last Tuesday and needs it again. I am going to wait until the weekend in case we do get another 2 feet.

Cam - great job on the speed.

Mel - hope you don't have to look at the test again for 6 yeras.

Monte - great job on the snow shoeing. I went with Lynne a few years ago and it was a great workout.

I forced myself to do 45 min on the TM last night. I prefer to walk outdoors because my time is much faster. I will have to start dressing like I am outside so I don't spend the time freezing. I never seen to go fast enough to actually get warmed up.

Anne - good to hear from you again. Keep up with the training. Which race are you doing next Jan?

Lilly - take care of youself and get your back feeling better. You only need to get the steps in and keep your endurance.

Have a great training day. I am going to shoot for another 45 min on the Tm after PT today.

Bundle up against the cold and stay healthy.

Quick training post:

TM 1% grade except for the one 6 min hill at 2.5%

5 miles in 57:31 avg pace 11:30. Didn't feel as hard as last night's 3 miler at the same pace!

But I'm burned out. Four days in a row of running isn't going to keep happening.

Sunny

Kristi--I used to have issues with the elliptical machine hurting my knees UNTIL I put some resistance on the machine. I bounce between 2-4 for resistance and I keep my candence in the 140's-150's and now no knee trouble. In fact that's why I do the elliptical so much--because of all my knee issues. I used to hate the elliptical, but now it's my favorite machine to train on by far!!!

Monte--Happy Anniversary!!!!!

I have nothing useful to say about training today, but just to mention, not only have I been to Seaside, I've also been to see Puxatawny Phil - he looked like a big fluffy fibber to me!!! Helen

I am so glad to know I am not the only one who's knees hurt on the elliptical! Everyone keeps telling me that machine is good for people with knee problems.

I am glad you spoke up. I have tried everything on the elliptical. My SIL is a trainer at the YMCA and told me I had to make it more like running....We tried evverything and it still hurt. Then I thought...If I am trying to make this stupid thing like running, why don't I just run....so I don't even bother anymore. People tell me all the time I need to keep on trying it..But why? Running doesn't hurt and I bike and swim....so why keep doing something that doesn't work for me?

Ran about 12.8 miles. It was supposed to be a 12.5 mile route, but I dropped a really nice glove and had to go back and get it. We saw 2 coyotes cross the road. Very cool! Hopefully, i'll get a nap.

Hey Lily: I've asked my trainer this question and the response is typically that you are comparing apples to oranges. They are both fruits but that's where the similarity ends.

Fruit aside, the eliptical will help the cardio but you need to do the TM if you are training for a running race. If you cannot do the TM for now due to injury, keep up the eliptical for the cardio work or try biking--that will help also. But don't push it. Listen to your body.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but it's what my trainer has told me.
Martha, Thanks. It is exactly what I was looking to read. I guess I already knew the answer too, just hoping that it changed.
:wizard:

Lynne, Thank You for your answer...I LIKE that one and the others that said keep on with it too. I'm not looking for any issues with knees though so I guess I'll mix-it-up as best as I am able. Thanks to all for helping.

Helen - I'm sorry for your loss.

Laurie - WTG! :cheer2: That's awesome!

Jen - Oy, working with family can be SO hard! I did that once (and it was extended sort-of family at that) and only lasted about a year. Swore I'd never do it again! Best of luck to you!

Cam - Congrats on the great 5K time!

Jackie - WTG for NOT throwing in the towel midway through! I have that battle more than I'd like to admit.

Kim - That's so neat that the whole family's getting into it! Fun!

Steve - Hope you get settled into your new department soon! Change sure does help keep things interesting, doesn't it?

Monte - Happy Anniversary!

I took a rest day yesterday - which was good, since my overzealous ab crunching on Tuesday resulted in plenty of soreness - and I'm planning on another 2.5 miler tonight. I felt pretty good after my last one - maybe time to bump it up a little?

Hey there WISH team members!!!

Just stopping by quick for a training update: I went to the gym to do 3 miles on the TM. I finished in 26:16, about the same as yesterday, only about 30 seconds slower, so I was very happy. I had an average pace of 8:43 mpm. My legs were a bit sore today after yesterday's workout and I almost didn't head to the gym, but I made myself go!! And once I got going, I felt great!!

Gotta go make dinner...so I will check in later tonight or tomorrow to catch up on all the posts!

Stephanie - pixiedust: Get Better Soon!

Melissa - A BIG :thanks: for mentioning Cat Crap. I've tried wipes and a spray that claimed to be "Anti-Fog" but didn't cut it. I stopped by a sporting goods store today and asked for Cat Crap. The guy asked me "For your glasses, or for your lips?" I didn't realize the marketing potential of Cat Crap for the lips. But they had the stuff for my glasses (he told me the lip balm, after seeing my somewhat disgusted look, actully works really well for chapped lips. I thought "Yeah, keeps ya from licking them.") and it worked great! So thanks again!

Monte - :thumbsup2 on seven years... Heres to many more!!!

Went out and did 2 miles today. It was really sunny and between my themal compression base layers, my full face mask, and my Cat Crapped on polarized sunglasses, I had a great "get back into it" training session. I ran 1/2 of the distance and my legs were like "Yeah, we remember this." Felt really good.
