Wk of Feb 4--WISH Walking/Running Club

Carrie

I did not anyone else thinks like I do. The only thing that keeps me running is that we keep signing up and paying MONEY for these darn races!!!

It really keeps you motivated!!:thumbsup2

lol Angie. That's why we're signing up for more races this year. We had a horrible lapse last spring and July was a rude awakening!

Lily - Hope you're feeling better.

Leana - Great run. I'm amazed that you made it out with slush and ice!

Kim - I did make it on the TM this morning. I was never a morning person, but in the last couple of years I've really begun to appreciate the time. Like you, DH has gone to work, and DD isn't awake yet, and I have the house all to myself (although DD complains that the TM wakes her up if I run too fast!)

Mel - Good luck!

Dena - Your posts are AMAZING!

Helen - I like the idea of imaginary reports. 6k around the lake sounds like fun - can I join you?

Jen - Congrats on the new Garmin. I hope you get a chance to use it soon. I thought about you several times today when people around here were complaining about the "cold" weather - the low here this morning was 16!

Carrie - Yea for getting back on the TM! :cheer2: I stopped to fiddle with my MP3 this morning and thought of you while telling myself that I shouldn't be doing that!

Judy - No, you didn't get up for nothing. Thanks for keeping me company!

I did 45:00 on the TM this morning. Actually managed to do 4R/1W for the first time. :yay: And the display worked the entire time (or at least until I started the cooldown - then it went completely blank again!) I redid my entire playlist Sunday night so I had all new music this morning - made the run a lot more fun!

Everyone stay warm!

Jackie

BRAVO CARRIE BRAVO!!!

I am glad you beat your fear of the TM!!!! Now I have never taken a digger as big as the one you describe, but I still panic on the TM every once in awhile. You know, when you get too close to the back there is a weird feeling in your feet, well then I always do these weird long strides to get back into place. Yup, my nickname was Grace when I was growing up!! Seriously, it was. You should review that video where they are dancing across the treadmills. I forget the song, but I am sure you can learn some cool moves from them that may save you in the future!!!

Carrie - I can guarantee you that no one is thinking about your unfortunate accident on the TM! You are like me & worry about these things too much. Who cares what anyone thinks anyway? The important thing is that you got back out there! :cheer2:

And that person at the gym who kept talking to you about it was a butthead!

Good morning everyone.

This isn't going to be like Dena's marathon catch-up post. You're ready for the Goofy posting challenge now girl! Did you ice bath your hands after? Loose any fingernails?

Susan - Just keep with it. The times will improve (slowly perhaps, but they will)

Lily - I hope the epidural does the trick. Feel better and take it easy.

Krista - I'm of the belief that if it's going to snow, I hope for the kind that really disrupts things (cancels school, shuts down work, etc). I've noticed you talking a lot about kids lately. You want a good work out? Wait till the kids can't wait to go out and have you pull them around in a sled. Not so bad when they're small but when they start pushing 70 lbs and still beg to go for a ride.... I'm still waiting for Brooks to come out with a pair of running snow boots.

Helen - I'm up for your virtual training approach. If only my middle-age (Yikes!! I don't know that I've ever thought of myself that way before) love handles were virtual as well.

Mel - Good luck on your recert exam.

KristiRed - More free tickets? A four hour nap? You must be the luckiest person in the world! Maybe you should contract yourself out as a Vegas travel companion. Keep a percentage of the winnings. Ka-ching!

I had a fairly uneventful 5 miles on the TM yesterday evening. No bucking bronco ride like Carrie's, thank goodness.

Take care everybody.

Mike - in full disclosure, it is my sister that wins ALL the time on the radio! She calls for anything and everything. In January alone she has won the Pink Mix Lounge tix, Justin Timberlake tix, VIP tix for the Deal Or No Deal Auditions, $50 Home Depot g.c., 4 Sunapee ski passes & a CD. (I think I am missing a couple things) I am just the recipient of the things she really doesn't want - or that she knows I *really* want. :yay: She is really, really lucky when it comes to the radio call-in contests for some reason.

And the 4 hour nap is not so exciting. I get up to go to work at 3am, so I am always severely sleep deprieved. I'd rather have no naps & sleep like a normal person!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I apologize that I haven't been so good about keeping up with everyone here on the thread recently. OK, a month ago at this time I had started the full marathon, met my running partners Melissa :hippie: and Colleen and we were running through our 1st 3 miles through a dark EPCoT. The journey had begun.

OK, I need to update you all on something. Yesterday was a great day. It was bitterly cold here in Rochester, and all the schools were closed. I was actually planning on working at home on a grant I have due next week. So I had my computer and all my papers. I would stay home with my princess DD9 princess: and our other princess DD6 princess: could spend the whole day at her daycare center (which she loves). DD9 princess: and I had a great day. In the morning she stayed in her jammies reading Calvin and Hobbes and watched some TV while I worked on my grant. At lunchtime I asked her if she wanted to go to the gym with me. Her eyes lit up, and I said that I was going to SWOG and she could come swim with me. We bundled all up to walk the 10 min walk from the parking lot to the gym (it was brutally cold) and hopped in the pool. We had the best time. She got a noodle and a beach ball while I SWOGged. She would toss me the beach ball, and I would throw it back while swogging. She would swim beside me and circles around me while I swogged. We chatted, and she provided me water stops handing me my water bottle from the side of the pool. We had a great day. While walking back to the car she said, "Dad, I was really hoping that Mom would stay home with me on this snow day, but I'm really having a lot of fun with you."

As I recorded my 40 min SWOG into my running log I noticed that just last Wednesday I wrote that I could not exercise because I was too busy at work and DD9 princess: had a meltdown at home. Wow, what a difference a week makes. It was night and day, and we had a great time. I just wanted to make sure I gave you all the good news too instead of just sharing the bad. Thanks again for all your support.

Carrie- I just wanted to congratulate you for getting back to the gym and hopping back on the TM. Good for you for not getting discouraged, and facing everyone at the gym. You have no reason to be embarassed at all. You're a marathoner afterall.

Hey team!!!!

Got on the TM again last night, 2 miles in 29:57...wahooo I also did upper body weights workout, felt great and not sore today. I also weighted in this morning 165, that is my lowest weight in years.....yahoooo:woohoo:

DJ: Thank you:hug:

Laurie Glad you are feeling better and congrats on getting to the gym

Dave Sounds like you had a amazing day with your daughter, that is so special.

Well we are expecting another snowstorm here today. Ok I am finished with winter it can go away now!!!!! I have friends that were coming in from Chicago area this weekend but might not make it now because of this terrible weather.....:sad1:

Well of to get ready for work, have a great day all.

Kim

Ugh, when it rains it pours around here! So, now my ankle feels much better, but I think I've caught the GI bug that DS had this weekend. I"m still going to try to make it to the TM this morning, cuz' I gotta get DD to gymnastics anyway. But we'll see if I get anything accomplished

All ya'll in the snow and cold--stay warm!!!!!

Gonna go lie down on the couch--chat later!

Sorry guys that I cannot keep up with the thread!
Work, 6 hour rehearsals with mad dancing, and opening a new show yesterday has me crazy!
Anywho! I am just dragging this morning. :coffee: I need to go run, swim, bike or something this morning before work, but I am just so tired! I feel like I have slacked so much and I am worried it is going to mess me up training wise...even though I am really not training for anything. I haven't had time to run this week and only biked for 30 min on Monday.

Sorry this is a downer post, I am just kinda bummed!

Hope everyone is doing great! Will catch up sometime...but not sure when.

:welcome: to all the new people! THis place is great!

Hi Everyone-
My goodness, keeping up with this thread is starting to eat into my exercise time! Its great to see everyone so enthusiastic especially when I am struggling to stay motivated to do anything at all.

Bill - I like the way you think! I am challenging my dh too!

Judy - My Dh excels at everything too, including being gracious, humble and supportive. Sometimes it really gets on my nerves. My daughter and I were discussing whether or not I would "beat" him at the Country Music Marathon since it will be his first half (except for those he does in a triathlon  ) This will be the first time that I actually have a chance at beating him but the way I see it, I lose either way.

Carrie - Way to go for getting back on the horse!
And for your client that blamed the marathon for ruining a slow time at Disney - you might mention that Disney would have added something else to that week - they are pros at filling up those slow times. Surprise Surprise, they are in this to make money! (I know, everyone is shocked to hear this!)

Dave- Glad to hear about your day with your daughter. DH and I have found that those 'one on one' times go a very very long way toward helping with the drama of everyday life.

Dena - awesome post!

Kim - Congratulations on your new low! Doesn't it feel good?!
Cecilia

Hi guys! This is going to be a partial drive-by, I am pretty busy at work. One of my co-workers is having hip replacement surgery this morning, so I am doing her work and mine, plus leaving 3 hours early yesterday didn't help either. At least the day is going by fast!

Carrie--Good for you for getting back on the treadmill! I would have been so paranoid too.

Dave--It sounds like you had a great day with your daughter!! I'm glad things are going better. Let's see this time last month...my knee was killing me and I was crying!! Hopefully the Flying Pig will go better. By the way, I love your clippie!!

Okay, I gotta get back to work, I'll check back in later!!!!

Christa - I often feel the same way. I think i become amotivated when my workouts are not social. I cannot stand to workout alone!!! After bible study and mocha, I'm planning on forcing myself to ride the trainer (as opposed to doing anything of value outside) b/c it is cold and at least the tv can give me some company!! Really, all you need to do is schedule a big race of some sort or another and say that you are currently "tapering":thumbsup2

I think you are right about this. I am a VERY social runner! I am signed up for a 1/2 marathon in April, and excited about this b/c I am running with my sister. But...this just does not seem like a challenge for me. I need a marathon or tri or something. I do have the century, but it is in September.

I did get my butt into gear and run 4 miles today. I ave an 8:45 pace. Gotta get ready for work:headache: !

Pig, pig, pig, pig!!!!! You could do the Flying Pig Full Marathon with the WISH team! Colleen and Wendy are making our North Carolina contingent, and there's talk of them sharing a ride to Cincy.

Greetings all. Today was a rest day. Actually since Charlie wasn't home last night I went to bed at 9:00 and slept until 6:00! I feel like a new woman! :goodvibes

Jen - Congratulations on the new toy! :thumbsup2 I love my Garmin! Jen, I have to ask you a stupid question. Was it you sitting on the ground across from me the morning of the Half? I'm terrible with names (thus the name tags) and I met so many people in like 48 hours that weekend so please please please don't take it personally.

Mel - Thinking of you taking your test today - GOOD LUCK! :wizard:

Kristi - You're so funny! "Your boys"! I can't believe you got tickets again! That's awesome! I'm so glad you're coming to the Minnie.

Jim - Congratulations! :woohoo: It was relatively warmer here this morning - 12 degrees! Whoo hooo! :cold:

Carrie - You are NOT the loser of the gym! Stop that! Who cares about the sissy clip. Are you there to impress people or work out? Who cares what they think! And don't make me come down there and give that Scott a piece of my mind, cause I don't have that much to spare. He better not be looking at you in disgust. It better be loving concern and he better whip up a really nice dinner tonight to make up for it. So there!

Jackie - How'd we do this morning? Was I chipper? :upsidedow

Dave - Wow, reading your post made my heart melt. :cloud9: How incredibly sweet! I am so happy you had such a great time together. Those are the times to remember.

Colleen and Wendy are going? AAHHHHHH! I want to do the PIG! Let me check with the $$$$ man otherwise known as DH!
If I go...(that is a BIG IF!) could I ride with you gals?:yay:

I HAVE GOT TO GET TO WORK! I have an 11:15 client and here I am still at home!:scared1:
