Wk of Feb 25--WISH Walking/Running Club

Just a quick one for me tonight, but I spoke too soon!! My knee was killing me again today.

So:

Colleen - Unfortunately I did not make it to pump class again tonight :sad1: Very frustrated lately! Also, AWESOME RUN and AWESOME Pace !!:cool1: I am very jealous you are at WL for 4 nights, but in two weeks we will be at CS for a mini-spring break vaca!! Have fun!!!
Krista - Thanks for the info, spent an hour on-line today at school looking up runner's knee - when I was supposed to be studying :rolleyes1 That is DEFINATELY what I have. Kind of funny too that I did not ice it last night and it hurt SOOOO bad today and it also said, sometimes it starts hurting when you start increasing your speed workouts, which I have been doing a lot lately.!!! So lot's of rest and ice in my near future.
Stephanie - I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND, I HAVE TOTALLY psyched myself out before every race so far. But now I am on the other side and I can say with confidence - YOU WILL BE AWESOME :yay: :yay: Trust your body and all of the training you have done and most of all - ENJOY IT!!

Almost forgot - Minnie - GOOD LUCK ON YOUR FIRST DAY TOMORROW! HOPE IT'S AWESOME!
Sorry if I missed anyone else. Will catch up with everyone again tomorrow!!:sad2: So sad that I can't run right now!!

Hi everyone!! :wave2:
I have to confess that I have skimmed through some of the posts that discussed certain race injuries. I am soooo not a foot person. Feet gross me out!:crazy2:
I now wish I read some of those posts more closely. I just lost a toe nail!:scared1:  :scared: What am I suppose to do? Will it grow back? How long does it take? My feet are already a mess - now they are really scary.
I got a blister on my toe during the half marathon in January. After the race, DH/Optimator wanted to perform some kind of surgery on my toe in the hotel room. I wouldn't let him anywhere near my foot. Maybe I should have let him operate then and it might have saved my nail.

Kathy

Hello, Team Mates!!

Sorry to hear of the injuries/sicknesses! This is for you pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

But I do need to do a special one for Andrew..pixiedust: May it heal quickly and correctly!!

Sunny, how did your mom's dr. appt go?

Terri, I'm praying for you tomorrow!
Jen, Lots of snow, a hurt foot...sounds like perfect quilting time to me!! Just be careful getting there!

We just got the final instructions email for the Snickers Marathon this weekend. It's NOT a closed course!!:scared1: This is going to be verlllllllly interesting! We run along some major roads. I know that they are thinking at 7 a.m. there will not be much traffic; but I'll be out there until 10:30!! This will be the smallest race that I've participated in, so far. It's capped at 1000; and since both races start at the same time, I'm thinking that's the total for the full and the half :confused3 Those people that laugh at me for memorizing the course..hah! It will probably come in handy this time as I may be out there at the end by myself! Will give my report on Sunday!

Bill, GET BUSY on that paint job! Sorry I can't be there to help ya! I'll be painting my MIL's bedroom while I stay with her after her cataract surgery in two weeks. Am I going to finish before you??:rotfl:

Just a quick drive by reply....

Hit the TM after work today for another 5k, ran 2.5 miles of it for a total time of 44:09. Feeling pretty good and confident that my goal to run my first 5K in 2+ weeks will become a reality.
I'm off tomorrow, or technically today rather, so I will scan the posts I've missed and properly join the discussion at hand.
G'Night!

Hi Love :wave2:

After the race, DH/Optimator wanted to perform some kind of surgery on my toe in the hotel room. I wouldn't let him anywhere near my foot. Maybe I should have let him operate then and it might have saved my nail.

For the record, the "surgery" was just a little pin prick - not even through the nail.

I guess I haven't proven myself to be a reliable source of help or information in the past. Can't blame her for doubting me when I have a sharp object in my hand :)

Race report of a different kind... took my annual PFT (Physical Fitness Test) on Wednesday and I'm glad to report I passed and improved my score from last year...

The test is max number of pushups in 60 seconds, max number of situps in 60 seconds (proper form required for both), the ever popular waist measurement, and then a timed 1.5 mile run. Based on age and gender they then calculate a score on a scale of 1 to 100 with 10 points each for the P/U and S/U possible, 30 points possible for the waist measurement, and 50 points for the run. As you can see just by having some extra pudge you can really set yourself back, but a solid run will make up for it and then some. My AF career is a little over 3.5 years now, and my scores had basically been degrading that entire time. For the run for example, I did 10:07 in 2004, 10:56 in 2005, and 11:45 in 2006. This year I changed it by a minute back in the correct direction down to 10:52. That's about 7:14mpm. But holy geez was I dyin! Was suckin wind about twice as fast as my normal half marathon pace and even that didn't seem like it was enough!

But anyway, safe for another year, and managed to get it done midweek so I won't be hurtin going into this weekend's races. Got the final e-mail for Seaside but not Snickers, maybe Anne could forward it to me? ;)

Great job Matt.

I'm pretty sure not too many of us would like to have to face that scrutiny every year ! :scared1:

Good luck. Just think of all the Snickers you will get to eat:yay:

I'm not a big fan of open road courses for marathons, especially on major roads. Toward the end of the race I'm usually not paying to close attention on where I am at.

I did one marathon that had 60 people in it. It was an open course. They did have police helping through the major intersections. It had 4 loops and on the last loop I never saw a person. The food was all gone, packed up, when I got back. Guess I just need to run faster the next time.

I'm looking forward to a race report.

We are men.....will we ever "be a reliabile source of help or information"?

I don't think so, unless it involves the remote or pumping gas or mowing the lawn.....:lmao:

Congratulations! Thanks for reminding us that it's h*** getting older. :lmao:

DS16 is JROTC in high school. He goes to the state competition for Rader Team this weekend and will be much of the same including rope bridges and such. I guess I should consider it training for the Muddy Buddy.

Bill, GET BUSY on that paint job! Sorry I can't be there to help ya! I'll be painting my MIL's bedroom while I stay with her after her cataract surgery in two weeks. Am I going to finish before you??:rotfl:

I won't make any predictions but with my current schedule, I should finish painting before you. Now whether the room will be finished is another matter. :lmao: I have the schedule all layed out and of course I am the only one who knows it. Makes it easier when I have to slip deadlines.:rolleyes1 All Lynnda has to do is cooperate and not have the baby before the due date.;)

I now wish I read some of those posts more closely. I just lost a toe nail!:scared1:  :scared: What am I suppose to do? Will it grow back? How long does it take?
I was freaked out beyond belief when I lost a nail last June after the Minnie! :scared1: It never even hurt, turned purple or anything. Just one day came mostly off. :confused3 I am not that vain of a person, but we were heading to Ocean City for a week just after the nail fell off. I was very sad about either not wearing the cute sandals I had at the beach, or wearing them & people being grossed out. I was freaking out. Well, I wore sandals anyway & no one noticed. Honestly, unless you looked really close, you couldn't tell there was no nail there. I just couldn't have the fun pedicure I planned before the trip.

I didn't do anything special to the nail bed or anything. And it did grow back, I just don't remember how long it took.

For a long time I have had 3 toenails giving my problems. They are constantly purple. One is really thick - no other way to describe that one. And I now wish it would fall off! :rotfl: Who would of thunk I'd want to lose a toe nail? :rotfl2:

WOW! I can't keep up....I called this morning to get a Dr. appointment. Still sick and my head, and back won't stop hurting...random! Matt (DH) thinks I have the flu, but I don't think so. We will see....
Haven't ran at all this week...
Funny, last week I did over 30 miles and this week nothing...but that running while kinda sick last week may be why I have to visit the Dr today!:headache:

Angie - real quick, congrats on the job...and I bet your knee was hurting b/c of that super fast run. Mine does that sometimes if I run too fast for too long. Funny, I never had knee problems either until I started going faster.

Good morning Racing Team! :goodvibes

This morning I did three miles at 4.0 (15 min) @ 1%, which is the minimum pace for the Minnie. I better get a wiggle on!

It's just a couple of bucks for a full roll. It does not take off any skin when you remove it. It will pull hair so make sure you shave first!!

Oh please. :rolleyes2 That's nothing. Try a waxing! :scared1:

Jen - OMG 20 inches!?? :scared: I've had enough of this winter already!

Minnie - Best of luck on the new job! I hope you love it! :thumbsup2

Anne - YAY there's Anne! :yay: Hi! :flower3:

Oh Christa - I hope it's not the flu! :wizard: that you feel better soon.

Where's Dave? :rolleyes1

So sorry, I have been a total skimmer this week!!

I hope Andrew heals quickly!!

Mike - phil offered to do the same kind of "surgery" for me the first time i had toe issues. I was too grossed out by it. Anyway, it ended up that the nail had to come off several months later, so he did that (he got to give me a shot and everything!!!) Shoulda let him use the needle in the 1st place!!

Angie - I hope your knee feels better soon.

Christa - I'm sorry to hear that you are still sick! Hope it is not the flu!

Stephanie - I was thinking about you today. Hope your run is great on sunday. Maybe i can talk phil into coming and running it (i doubt it though as he already said no (while chuckling) to the white rock classic 50k this weekend!)

I actually have some running to report!! I haven't run since the 50k. I have done orienteering, mt. biking and fast walking, but no running. Did 6.2 at around a 9:40 pace. It was very windy!!! My average heart rate was really high for me. I;m not sure why. Anyway, glad i'm done. Phil went on a short run last night. (his 1st since the 50k - although he has mt. biked and orienteered too) He came in very discouraged and i told him that the wise wishers would tell him he "got the steps in" THat seemed to cheer him up a little!:cool1:

Hi Everyone-

Well, it finally happened. I actually had to stop running due to an injury last night. Mile 9 of a 10 mile run and my left hamstring said stop NOW. It had been hurting for a few miles but the pain started radiating up and down my leg and then became intense.

It is sore today but not too sore. I am going to take the day off anyway - its rainy and the kids are home early for some strange reason.

Kathy - your toenail will grow back. Find a good pedicurist and they can do wonders for you feet. I forgot who on here told me, but it is possible to paint your toe nail even when it doesn't exist. It really helps you feel better.

Matt- Congrats on the PFT results.

Bill- When we were painting the nursery before our first child was born, the paint guy at home depot ended up GIVING the last can of paint to DH after I made him repaint it for the third time. Luckily, it was the PERFECT shade of blue - funny thing is the final shade of blue was named "patience". Of course, the baby ended up being a girl but thats another story...

Cecilia

Hi, honey :wave2:

We've just finished DD4's bday extravaganza. And I did my last run before the half this weekend. Love those 30 min runs on taper weeks! Weather's looking good. I never thought I'd be happy about a cold front coming through, but we're expecting one this weekend so the race start will likely be in the 50s. Looks like a good day to run!

The DD4 ("Wild Tod") had a lot of run running her new scooter around the house, all decked out in helmet, padding, and cool sunglasses. Mighty cute girl on wheels.princess:

Thanks for the additional welcomes, Ashley and everyone else!

I may not do the Sarasota 5k this weekend; I don't want to totally kill my foot since it still is in pain. Frustrating. I guess I'm not the only one who has had to bail out of a race due to injury.

One last Idol comment - Antonella's GOTTA GO!

- Jeff

MelR--come and play! Weather is supposed to be great--for a race day at least! Did you guys get hit with some storms this am???

Jen--I hope you're okay with the winter weather up there. My aunt who was supposed to fly down today, had her flight cancelled due to the weather. Then they rebooked her on a flight connecting in Minneapolis this morning--crazy b/c Minneapolis is getting as much snow as you are--anyway, they finally got her on a flight out of Milwaukee tomorrow morning. Crossing my fingers the weather cooperates!

Jeff--take care of your foot--there will be other races! OH, and I think Antonella needs to go too!

Cecilia--take care of your leg! Hope it improves with rest and ice!

Angie--thanks for hte positive words! I'm going a little mental here! Hope your knee is feeling a little better today!

Christa--Oh no--I hope it's not the flu! Take it easy!

Well, no training to report from me today. I was going to bail on my running clinic tonight b/c my aunt was going to be here, and now that she's not I'm debating whether or not to go. I really need to rest--but a nice walk around the lake would be nice--I'll stay away from the "Boston" folks! I'll also have the kiddos with me, as DH has to work late AGAIN! So, I wouldn't be very speedy anyway, pushing 50+ lbs of kids! 2 1/2 days to go for me! And then my sanity will return!

No desk posting for me today -- we got a SNOW DAY! Hurray for that!!!

Last night I went to spin class then did 40 min. run on the TM. My avg. pace was 10:09 min./mile. That is one of my best!!

I do have a bra question, though, and I'm sure I've missed it. What kind of sports bras do you like? I do not have runner's ****s, mine are quite real, so I need a real holster for them. Any help?

Sorry guys! I worried about your nipples, now I need some people to help me!

Take care, I think I'm off for some sledding!
Ashley

Ashley - I use Moving COmfort. I'v eneard very good things about Enell, but they are $$$$$.

Mom2Girls - The "surgery" would likely have relieved your pain, but you woudl lose the nail anyway. It'll be ok, though. WIll take several months to grow back, but just paint hte skin. No one will know.

TM run scheduled tonight. It's wild here. Ice all mrning and other frozen crud. Now it's super windy adn raining and we could get T-storms. :confused3
