Wk of Feb 11--WISH Walking/Running Club

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I hope everyone had a fantastic Valentine's Day with their loved ones. I was able to get to the gym and run 5 miles on the TM in 47:35 min/9:31 mpm. Been feeling a little soreness in my left shin - so I have to be careful not to push it too much.

Angie- Fantastic run. I'm glad you had a good one before the weekend, especially since you were feeling down about your last run. Wow, you were flying out there. WTG! That is fantastic that you are running the 1/2 marathon to celebrate your 12th anniversary. Wow, that really touched me. This year is the 12th anniversary for my DW and I too! 1995 was a pretty good year I guess.

Meghan- You're doing fantastic! Slow and steady, you are improving every day.

Bill- Wow, those 70 degree temperatures sound pretty nice right about now.

Lynnda- WISHing you the best with the pregnancy. Wow, sounds like the little baby is growing along just fine. I'm also impressed that you scheduled your c-section, and then your next thought was regarding the 5K the following weekend. Too funny.

Craig- I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's difficulties in finding a job in Boston and the personal rejections she's (and you've) been facing. It is incredibly discouraging and demoralizing. We're here for you. Hey, maybe she'll end up in Colorado, and you can both spend the summer together at least. I hope things turn around for her soon.

Carrie- did you get your zebra striped skirt? Is there another zebra-butt in the house?

Hey Melissa! Great to hear from you. Good luck with the 50K this weekend! Have fun.

TXAng- Good run for you today, well, except for the garlicy shrimp part. Uuugh.

Monte- good TM workout. How's the snow out there in Copper Mountain?

Mike- Happy Birthday! Have fun with the new Garmin! You are so right, the best gifts are those little things you would never justify buying for yourself. Lime green iPOD shuffle too! Whoo hooo! You have embraced the WISH team. Did you get your 12 miles in? Were you on the TM or the habitrail track?

Lily- How are things out your way in Cleveland? Are you getting lots of this lake effect snow too?

Kristi- That was a scary story of your drive home last night. Hope you're doing better now. Drive safely.

Hello Sara! Good to hear from you. Have you been getting snow dumped on you in your side of the state too? You know I was thinking we should find a NY race where our NY WISH teamers can rendezvous. Maybe we could get you, me, Kathy, Lynne, Judy, to all find some race to meet up together sometime. Maybe we could find something near Lake Placid sometime?

OK, I'm out of here. Have a great day everyone!

Dave-It is so tough seeing our kids struggle no matter what their age. Especially when we no they are so perfect the way they are! Good luck to her, I know it is just a matter of time and she will find the perfect fit!:thumbsup2

Kristi-that's what DH drives :drive: and we love it (although compared to my mini van its like driving a toy car) but we dont have ice/snow to deal with. No snow, but no weather like Bill & Lynnda have either:rolleyes:

Dave-great workout! Dont push too hard, you need to take care of those shins.

Sara-there you are! I've heard Grandma's is a great event. Good luck with training.

Mike-awesome bday gifts!!!! You've trained your 3yo for DIS & didnt even know it :rotfl:

Megan-you are doing great!

I have 2 miles at the gym today along with 4 million other things to get done for us to leave town tomorrow. It is supposed to be freezing in Mobile for our race & parades this weekend. Um hello, its on the Gulf Coast, it was never freezing when I lived there why now that I'm doing an early a.m. race:eek:

Good Morning team! My x-training has been pushed to tonight b/c I've unexpectedly needed to babysit this morning. No biggie, though I do have to fight more crowds at 6pm than at 9am!

Craig--Sorry your daughter has had some setbacks in the job search, but I'm sure she'll be much happier when the job is a good fit for her. I do have to say that reading your post made me a little teary eyed. Your relationship with your daughter sounds a lot like the relationship I have with my dad. If she's anything like me, your involvement in her life means the world to her!

angie--Wow, you were flying!!! Those kind of training days are great for making the bad ones distant memories!

Lynnda--Good luck with your 9 pounder! I can joke about these things b/c I had a 9 pounder as well (and that was completely unexpected b/c my ob had estimated DS's weight in the 7 range!) No c-section here!

Mike--Sounds like you had a great bday! And kudos to your DW for buying herself a present as well!

Dave--take care of your shins!

Well, better go and stop neglecting my kids!;) Have a great Thursday all!

Hey!
Still here..kind of!
Well still running anyway! Hope to catch up with everyone soon.
ran 5 miles with an 8:30 pace yesterday.
Was planning on doing more but it was DD9 Birthday yesterday.

Craig - :grouphug: for your DD.

Angie - I cannot wait to hear about how you blow it away on your race! WTG on that rock'n pace!

Drive by post

Dave- there is a half and full marathon in Lake Placid on June 10. Erin and I plan on doing the half and Lynne will do whaterver her coach feels is appropriate.

We are still digging out from all the snow. My drive had to be plowed 3 times yesterday. I got stuck trying to get out of it to go to work. After that experience, I did't even try to pull back into it in the afternoon.

Too much shoveling has irritated my shoulder. I think I have undone all the good work the PT has done since Jan 11. Have not got the motion I had. Hopefully, it is just swollen form shoveling.

Hi Everyone!-

I never did get my Wednesday run in. What an insane day! Who's idea was this Valentines thing anyway?

Dave - I asked everyone, "Have you seen Dave's Photopass?" They haven't located it yet, but they're still looking. :lmao:
:lmao: :lmao: I can see you doing that too! :lmao:

Angie - Are you sure you didn't have wings on your feet? Wow! Great run!
You have inspired me to get out in these subfreezing temps to get my run today. Can't go to the gym - another sick kid. However, I have decided to be grateful that my kids waited until after the marathon to have back to back illnesses.

Craig - She will eventually find a job with people who appreciate her personality & she will be much happier because of it. Meanwhile, I know rejection hurts. I am sorry she is having to go through this, I have been there and I know it is miserable.

Lynnda - 9+ pounds! But a definate delivery date. It'll be here before you know it!

Optimator - A garmin and an ipod?! Wow! You must have been very good this year!
I programed my new shuffle with all sorts of inspiring music and headed out for a run. About 3 miles in I decided that I definately needed to add some slower songs to the mix. The voices in my ears were taunting me that I couldn't keep up. When the B-52's are your slow song it's definately speed work.

Anyone else with kids getting sick of this Webkins craze? I went to Hallmark to get the kids each one for Valentines and it was like Beanie babies all over again! People literally pushing and shoving to get the exact animal their kid wanted. I almost turned around and left without getting one at all. Then, my neighbor came out of the fray with an armful for me to choose from. Yikes.
For those of you without school age kids, they are stuffed animals that come with a special code. You go to the website and register your animal and then you can play with it online. The games are pretty educational so teachers are pushing the idea. My middle child got one for Christmas and goes online everyday to feed it and play with it. The big fun was when she raised enough money to buy her cow a trampoline. What does a cow need with a trampoline?

Good Morning Team!!

Big Vic So jealous of your disney run, I will be there soon

Angie Awesome pace good for you:thumbsup2

Meghan Keep up the great work

Craig I am a firm believer in things happening for a reason, they perfect job is out there for your daughter, sounds like you raised a lovely girl. You should be very proud

Lynnda 9.5 WOW....my DS was 8.11 and I thought that was big.

TXang Great Workout

Monte 4.5 miles...great job

Mike Great gift.

Dave Great pace, I hope your shin is starting to feel better

TiffJ WTG on getting in your 2 miles

gatorphipps Awesome pace....whew.....

Kathy Hope your shoulder is better soon.

Not much new to report here, snowstorm yesterday, DS got called in to work , so as soon as I walked in the door I had to drive him to work which is about 20 min each way, tried to get on the TM and just wasn't feeling it, still feel a little icky so decided not to push it.

Will get a workout in tonight,

Kim

Craig - Your post brought tears to my eyes. You've been such a wealth of information for all of adult onset college students and runners that it is so difficult to read about what you are going through with your DD. I'm another non-assertive person in the work place and have gotten trampled on a bit due to it. I'm absolutely certain though that your DD will find the position that suits her to a T :wizard:

Craig,

Let me start with congratulations on celebrating Valentine's day with such a wonderful long-lasting marriage; and bringing up such a great child.

As a fellow transplanted Bostonian, I would say that this may be a blessing in disguise. I tell my daughter and my younger brother all the time to get out while they can. I hate being trapped in this location. As you stated, people are assertive to a fault. It's congested. There's no parking... anywhere! Not to mention the cost of living. We are losing many college graduates because they can't afford to by a "starter/fixer upper" house for $350,000. Why work your "bleep" off only to live like a pauper? I grew up in Lexington. I coudn't afford to buy a run-down condo there. I also wouldn't move back there even if I could afford it. As a whole, the town is just plain snobby. (my sister and her new husband and kids live there, so keep it on the QT;) )

Sending :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: To you and Martha and Lesley. Lesley sounds like a wonderful person. In the long run this experience will strengthen her, but I can imagine as a proud Dad it must be so hard to watch.

Sunny

ETA: My sister and her new DH just bought a house in Lexington. It's a nice but ordinary modest split-level on a fairly small lot. They paid $750,000.

Good morning... this is just a quicky to let you all know what I got for V-Day.... a stomach bug. I was home in bed all day yesterday. It was plain rotten. Today I am back at work, but still really week. I lost 5 pounds, so you know most is water weight. I am feeling better except for the weakness. So needless to say, no running or cross training for me for a couple of days.

I will try to catch up with the bazillion posts that happened while I was gone!!

Sunny... $750,000 wow....I watch this show House Hunters International not sure if you get it in the States, but they show houses and you think wow how can you afford to pay a mortgage on these homes. Mostly they are in the UK where housing prices are crazy, my sister lives in England and she said it is just crazy what they pay for little row houses.

Jen, hope you are feeling better soon.

Well, I think I may be signing up for my first 10K, it is the first week of April, I would like to get in a run before the Minnie.....So excited, just waiting to hear from DH and see if he will do it with me.

Kim

:scared1: This is exactly why Chad & I can never move from our house! We bought our house in '99 and it is worth about double now. Yeah, we could make some money, but we couldn't afford to buy anything else. So, we will be in our 'starter home' for a long, long while!:rotfl:

I have been lurking and not posting again:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Getting back into the groove of this after our trip on the Magic has been difficult, but knowing that the Minnie will be here before I know it, it helping to motivate me!!

I am still working on the Couch to 5K, as of next week I should be doing 25+ min runs from now on. I am starting to doubt myself and I may repeat this week just to be sure I am really ready.

I am also afraid I may have my first injury:sad2: The bone on the outside of my foot (right under my little toe) hurts the majority of the time (but never when I am running). I am hoping it will go away anytime now!!

Hey Bill--don't go around bragging about our great weather--as your revenge from all those up north, we are going to have a miserable weekend down here!!!!

OK, posting before I forget a few thoughts.

Angie - Way to go!!! That is awesome!!

Jim - Your dd is beautiful!

Craig - Lesley will find something!!! I have learned to be stronger, adn esbecially try to be strong during interviews to get myeslef in teh door. Lesly needs to somehow show them that, although she is not someone to walk all over people, she will not bend when it counts. Maybe she needs to pretend she's on the soccer field when she goes in to interview?

In my world, you start out getting dirty. However, tehy expect you to dress for an interview. I've had comments that I was oigng to get dirt under my nails. Been told that the sites are not always pretty fields with wild flowers. Grrrr.... I may not work in an area that's tough like Boston, but I work in an area where they'd rather the women be home. I know how hard it can be.

There is hope, though. There are people out there that recognize who you are. My former boss and my mentor has been wonderful. I know he has had a it of a hard time knowing how to deal with me, as he was not used to working with women. However, he has a daughter. AN only child. He has fought for me like no other. (In times where I was not given th opportunity to fight for myself.) I think, when he saw how some higher ups were treating me, he thougth about how he would want his daughter treated. Not coddled by any means, but given my fair shake when I deserve it.

I forget who said that all things happen for a reason, but I believe that too. She will find something. (I think it will be closer to CO. ;) ) It will be where she's meant to be. It's just not always easy to see that when you're looking, though. Funny, I bet that if she knew how worried her parents were about her, that she'd feel worse about that than about not having a job. She'll be fine. :grouphug:

Not to rub it in but I just went outside and looked and there wasn't any snow or ice on the ground. :lmao: Just lots of warm wind and nice 70 degree temperatures. This snow thing must be a figment of people's imagination. :rotfl2:

Happy Valentines day to everyone.

Bill

Hey Bill, what do you see in this picture????;) I have a powerful imagination! I know it's nothing compared to the towns with 10-11 feet. But it was worth 3 hours of shoveling.:headache:

That's a really good point. Those attitudes are nearly gone around here.

Yikes Sunny that looks like my house....I don't think it will ever start snowing.

Well it is official, Dh and I are doing a 10K April 1, 2007....Wahoo. I figure it will give me confidence for the 15K in May at the Minnie.

Yipeeee so excited.

Kim

Now for the rest. I'm sure I'm still gonna' miss people, but I'm doing better. ;)

:cool1: To Dave, Meghan, TXAng and monica for gettign their work outs in!

Christa - Good to see you. Congrats on the awesome pace!

Christy - :wizard: Hope your foot's better soon! Do your regular shoes fit ok? I know that I have had to seriously upgrade teh shoes I wear since I've been running.

Cecelia - :lmao: A cow with a trampoline?

Tiff - Good luck and safe travels!

Mike - Happy belated b-day!!! What great gifts!

Kim - DOn't push if you're still not feeling up to it today.

Sunny - OMG! Yeah, it may be a good old boys world here, but at least I can afford to live in it!

Sara - Good to see you!

Kathy - Please be careful!!!! :wizard: That you're not hurt!

Jen117 - Hope you're feeling better soon!

Dave - WOuldn't you like to know. ;) No matter what I wear, I don't think I'll ever bedeserving of teh term Zebra Butt, though. :p

OK, help me out here. DH has been tossing around doing a 5K Saturday. I would like to do it, as I will be able to run on pavemnt and outside. He tells me this am that he does not want to do teh 5K, unless he runs outside before. he doesn't know how to dress fro the weather, as he has not doen a MI outdoor work out since before marathon. (I'v eonly done 1 myself.)

Well, tonight would have to be the outside work out. It's a high of 10 today. It will be windeir on Saturday morning, but the high is suppoed to be 28. Now, tell me. How will running 40 minutes (about 3 to 3.5 miles) in 10 degree weather today help us when the runnign 3.1 miles in 20 degree weather Saturday? If you over dress, you can always take layers off. Is there something I'm missing here? My best guess is that anyone who will do a 5K in Feb is going to likely be a dedicated runner. So, they will eb fast. I don't see his problem. Everyone will know he's running my pace. They won't think less of him. Heck, they won't care. (I thin kit's because teh paper said that the former olympian tha tran last year will not be running.) I still don't understand what he problem is. :confused3

Mike – Ooh, a Garmin AND a Shuffle? You’re one lucky guy! Love that dd picked out the lime green one! :thumbsup2

Kristi – 3 AM? What do you do for a living?

Dave – Hope your shin feels better!

Tiff – Hope you get all 4 million things done so you can enjoy your weekend!

Christa – Wow, you’re speedy! Hope dd’s birthday party was fun!

Kathy – Ouch! Hope your shoulder heals up!

Sunny - $750,000?

Jen – I’m sorry you caught the bug! Rest up and feel better soon!

Christy – Hope your foot stops hurting!

I've got a dilemma. DH and I really want to do the Donald next year, as well as take our first ever trip to WDW. We're figuring on arriving on Thursday night or maybe Friday morning, and staying until the following Friday. We'd drive it, so figuring in the travel time, that means being gone from work for nearly two weeks in January, which is a very busy time for us.

Busy, but I still think it would be doable. I would still be in the office for the most crazy times (the first and last week of the month). I can easily work extra time before going and after returning to get things under control.

I just need to work up the courage to actually ask my boss if it's ok by him. And I've having a hard time trying to convince myself to do that. I'm going to be devastated if he says it's a no go. DEVASTATED!

Seriously, we've been trying to go to the World for 6 years. And I've wanted to go since I was about 5. Every time we've started to get geared up to try to go, something comes up and prevents it.

Someone tell me to just suck it up and ask. Having a definite answer is better than being in limbo, right?

Phew, sorry that got so long!
