Wk of Dec 2--WISH Walking/Running Club

Stephanie - Yes, there will be a Valentine run on Bona Dea trail. I do some of my LRs there. The run benefits the Arkansas Tech women's cross country team. I don't think anything has been announced in the paper or on the Internet about it. I'll try to keep you posted. By the way, I will be participating in the LR half marathon too! :thumbsup2 I haven't decided yet if want to run the half or participate in a 2-man relay.

Krista - I'm no expert but it sounds like you ought to rest. Hope your leg gets better soon. :wizard:

Suzy - sounds like you had a good trip. Since I'm a newbie to all of this, I have never run on a beach before. I'd like to, though! :teeth:

Carrie and Kevin and all of you who are running on snow and ice - be careful. I guess now I can't complain about the 40 degree weather here.

Well, since some of you are talking football here, I have to add that my Razorbacks will be playing in the Capital One Bowl in ORLANDO on Jan. 1. Now I wish that I could combine that game with the marathon weekend. :scratchin Wooooooo Pig Soooooooie!

Well, we did a lot of trining in the snow and ice last year (I don't know how as I know some of the runs were much worse last year), but it has our number this year. I signed up for teh gym tonight adn we start TMing it tomorrow. Scott would "rather run naked int eh snow" than run on a TM, but I really don't see how that would help. ;)

Dave - If they could score whenever they wanted on us, how come they had 3 turnovers? Defense? And how come UM was the only team to have scored off the turnovers? Oh, BTW, you may want to look at FL vs. Vanderbilt and MI vs Vanderbilt? I didn't realize you wer e transplant too, though, so I'm not as worried about you now. ;) ;)

Wow, all this football talk and I haven't even managed to get in some smack talk at all! Of course, that's probably because we're all talking college ball, and I only follow NFL. Sometimes I wish I followed college, but there's only so much room in my heart for a team, and my right ventricle is black and the left ventricle is gold (go Stillers!!). :thumbsup2

Oh, funny story real quick. Remember that I'm out of town still? Well, I knew I needed to get an ice bath in yesterday after the 20 miler, but the tub in my room at the hotel would not put out cold water. I decided that I could get some ice from the ice machine down the hall, so I got one ice bucket full and poured it in the bathtub. It melted immediately. So....backup plan. I took the waste basket from the room, went down to the ice machine, and filled it up, too (about 6 ice buckets worth). Brought it back to the room and emptied it into the tub. The ice didn't melt right away, but I wanted to make sure it was cold enough, so I found a second waste basket in the room and brought both of them back to the ice machine. Problem was, I had used up all the ice on the third floor, so I had to take the elevator to the second floor to steal their ice. :) I filled up both waste baskets, picked up my 60 or so pounds of ice, got back in the elevator, and proceeded to go back to the third floor. In the meantime, I spilled several ice cubes on the elevator floor, so I was making quite a mess. So the door to the third floor opens, and much to my complete surpricse, there were about 6 people waiting to get on the elevator. They had been carrying on a conversation, and when they saw me, they stopped talking immediately. So here I am in my sweat pants and dirty t-shirt holding two garbage cans full of ice, dropping ice all over the elevator floor. I didn't know if I should explain myself, but then I realized that anything I said would sound stupid anyway, so I just walked off the elevator and said, "Howdy. Cold evening, huh?" I didn't look back as I walked towards the room.

Yeah, I felt pretty dumb. But I got my ice bath in. :)

Steve

Steve - that is great story!!! I tried to get an ice bath at POFQ after the 1/2 and b/4 the full last year just to help w/ the whole goofy thing and i had the same problem. The water was just not cold but i dn't put any effort into getting ice!!

Steve's new nickname...the Iceman! :lmao:

Hey, eveyone!!

Princess Nancy/Nancy, I followed the MfM plan and trained for DL in September as my first half ever. I had the exact feelings you are having...even went so far as to ask JB himself at the expo if he could assure me that following his program and only doing 10 miles as the longest run was going to hold me up for the next day. Of course, he just thought it was the sillliest question ever! But, he did emphatically state, as all of our veterans here have, that I was good to go. And you know what? I was!! I did!! I have a castle medal to prove it! The best thing for me, I think, was how great I felt afterwards, Nancy. It was not just a "barely making it to the finish line and collapsing after" finish. If you have followed his program, you will be golden!
Judy :grouphug:

The World was great, not a drop of rain and when we drove to MK, I was saying, "This is where we'll be running in 5 weeks!" Instead of the water balloons, let's think...Lean Green Running/Walking Machines! Go Team!! :sunny:

Hi everyone. I have some internet access while I am in Las Vegas, so here I am. My presentation was this afternoon and I was told it went well. Once I get talking, I just go. It was an hour presentation and I didn't have a lot of time to "practice".

So on to training. I ran my 10 on Saturday. Yesterday was a rest day, which was good because between flight delays and just travelling, there was no way I was getting in training. Today was a forced rest day because I didn't have time with show set up and my presentation. The show went until 7:00 tonight. Tomorrow morning I will get up early and go to the health club to hit a treadmill. Then I have the conference.

My body clock is totally off. I was wide awake at 4:00 this morning!!! :sad2:

I forget who wrote what because there are 6 pages in 2 days!!! But...

Judy - :grouphug: I pray you can buy Mist!!!!

As for gels... I have only used Vanilla powergel. To me it tastes like melted frosting and I find it quite delightful. We don't have many places that sell the gels.

OK, I have to get off the internet, but GOOD LUCK to everyone training this week!!!

Hi Everyone,

Just popping in really quick -- I did my BOSU training last night for 45 minutes, plus a lot of stretching.

Today is my third day of therapy, hopefully this go around the woman will actually spend time with me :teeth: . I understand that they have other people but I'm paying just as the others are. :thumbsup2

Hi Dave  ,

How are your legs doing? Wow - 20 miles, I'm jealous....but I guess, my body is telling me to rest!

Jodi- I wanted to WISH you PD for your injuries too. Keep it up, we're almost there. And as far as the PT goes, they showed me lots of stretches and exercises when I was there over the summer. I'm not that impressed with what you are reporting about your PT.

Thanks Dave! Right now, I'm keeping up physically without the running, I hope that makes sense  . I've been keeping up with icing (although, probably not doing it as much as I should).....stretching a lot more - I think that was part of my problem, coupled of course with my overpronation! I'm fighting those Orthonics now - - but if I'm a couple of weeks in and I still don't feel better, maybe that is the way to go.

I'm also keeping up with my crosstraining, I may ride the stationary bike or walk the miles that I should be doing tonight.

My friend and I both have a back up plan of walking Goofy if need be. Hehe, can you believe my husband called me stubborn last night :confused3 :teeth: .

Amybeth - - how did the doctor visit go? I hope the doctor had a solution for you! I was thinking about you yesterday :goodvibes

Oh and here is a little pd for your injuries :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Good morning everyone! :sunny:

It's getting harder and harder for me to make my weekly drive-by. Christmas responsibilities are really interferring with posting and training. I find I'm missing nearly one SW per week due to elfy business. :guilty:

Anyway, count me as another one who had a horrible LW on Saturday. 12 miles produced nickle-size blisters under the ball of each big toe. Those socks have been demoted to "rest days" and I'll never again forget Body Glide on my soles. :sad2: The only consolation is that my pace didn't suffer too much. I came in at 13:36 versus an average of 13:05.

Oh, and my pedometer is surely dying. Some of the LED sections of the numerals don't show anymore. So an 8 looks like an E, a 9 looks like a 4, etc. I really really really hope Santa brings me that Garmin Forerunner 205 I wrote to him about. :cloud9:

Kelley - :wizard: for that Garmin!!!!

AMy - WOndering about your appt too! :wizard:

Steve/iceman - ROTFL!!!!!!!!!!! And I thougth it was bodld of me to put in one ice bucket in my not so cold tub. We need to picket hotels that don't hve cold water! Thanks for the laugh!

Steve -- Great story! :lmao:

Hi, Anne! How are you and Robert doing? How exciting it must have been to be at the MK and know that soon you'll be running there! :goodvibes:

Kelley -- Hoping your blisters get better fast. pixiedust:

Jodi -- I hope your PT goes well.

UGH! I have done nothing since Saturday's 20 + 3.1. And it's not even because I am sore. Just time issues. Though I do think that going to 3 stores PLUS the mall for 6 hours on Sunday had to have counted for xt, right? And carrying all those packages, boxes and bags . . . strength training, right? :teeth:

It is not looking good for the gym tonight, either, with a WW meeting and errands and then our firm holiday party tomorrow night. Shooting for Thursday night.

Trying to come up with a plan for the next few weekends. I think my plan didn't call for 20 until 12/16, but since I want to get to at least 22 I did the 20 Saturday. Do you think I should "dial back" a bit this weekend and then ramp up again on the 16th to 22? Starting with last Saturday, the plan was for 18-8-20-10-6. Since I did 20, should I modify it to 20-8-22-10-6? Or 20-22-24-10-6? Just not sure how my body will react to any of this because I've never done it before. Looking for advice from my expert WISH friends.

Cam--It goes without saying that I'm NOT an expert, but I personally I would not go beyond 20 miles; maybe 21 or 22, but not 24. I think you are setting yourself up to a potential injury or run the risk of being overtrained. I've heard trainers and doctors advise against running the full distance (unless you are an elite runner) while training because of the impact 26.2 miles can do to your body and the rule of thumb is after the marathon take a day off from training for every mile. What's the difference between 24 miles and 26.2? Can the last 2 miles really be that bad that you need to take 26 days off from running after you finish the distance, but "only" running 24 does not effect you? I'd like to see what some other seasoned runners have to say about this, as I have only been running for a year and a half and I definitely do not know it all. :teeth:

Hi Cam - You and I are kind of doing the same thing. Personally, I need the taper back week of 8 this Saturday to help recover from my 20 miler last Saturday, and prepare for the next really LR in 2 weeks. So I'm planning on doing 20-8-23-10-6. Although, I might do 20-6 (a local 10k run at training pace, not race pace, for a change of scenery) - 20-10-6. After my stonker 20 miler last Saturday I'm debating on whether I should try another 20 miler or go up to 23 miles like I planned. Regardless, I'm doing either 6 or 8 this week.
