Wk of Dec 2--WISH Walking/Running Club

Just a quick drive by because:

Oh Judy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is just down right horrible :sad2: :furious:

:wizard: and :grouphug: that the idiot wakes up and gives you Mist.

Cam - You dont HAVE to use Gu. IF what you did for your 20-miler worked, stick with it! (Except eat nmore pre-start). As far as Gu goes, I like orange, adn berry best. They have a little caffeine, but not much. Not like teh 2X or 3X or anything.

Judy - :wizard: Hope Misty gets to stay with you!

Mel - Boise state staid undefeated, but they are from a non-bcs conference. i.e., tehy still have to prove themselves. They did get a BSC bowl, though. I was not overly impressed with USC this year. The game against ND seemeed to be just a calamity. They lost to Orgeon State and had MANY close calls with other teams. Nope, USC did not impress me. We had 1 12-0 and 3 11-1 teams in teh Big 10 this year, one of which was OSU. I don't know why they're saying the SEC is so tough this year, but I guess that's what we'll see Jan 8. I must admit, I've never really followed teh SEC, though. ETA, OK, I see SEC had 3 in the top 10 and 4 (or 5?) in the top 17. That is pretty tough. Big 10 had 3 in the top 6.

Pat - I was goign to do the ESPN club on teh BW if UM made it. I think it would be cool to watch there. Now, it really doesn't outrank WDW time for me, though. ;)

Thanks, Mel!
Okay, that price is better than roadrunnersports, but the shipping at RRS is free for VIPs. Guess I'll order it there.

What flavors have you tried? I have now tried strawberry and cranrazz and like them both. The guy at EMS said the black cherry is good. Anyone tried that? I can't do the lemon-lime. For some reason, lemonlime anything gives me heartburn.

BTW -- sport beans fans -- EMS had fruit punch and blue raspberry as well as the orange and the lime.

Judy - how horrible! That's unbelievable! :sad2: :grouphug: I so hope you get to keep Mist! :sad2: :grouphug:

For those of you who have taken goo and the Cliff shot blocks - do they work the same? I haven't tried either but it seems the shot blocks would be easier to handle. ???

Hi everyone-

Thanks for all the input.

As for long runs - my longest will be 20 miles and I will only do 2 20 milers. I think however, our plan calls for longer midweek runs (8 & 10 miles) than everyone elses so I guess I am wracking a bit more mileage per week.

As for hurting all the time, well, I admit, I tend to be a complainer. I have had lots of aches but really haven't experienced pain during a run until last week. That turned out to be a cramp and not an injury. I am just hyper paranoid about every little twinge.

As for not eating durig long runs, well, I wondered, which is why I asked. I haven't felt like I needed to eat during a run. I haven't been hungry. I have tried sport beans during shorter (8 & 10 mile) runs and found I liked the way they made me feel AFTER the run but didn't notice any power surge. I guess if I was slowing down at the end of a run, they might help but I tend to get faster at the end of my runs. On my 20 mile run, the last two miles were my fastest. I am taking everyone's advice though. Sifting through it to find what sounds best for me. I have my last long run this Saturday so I need to decide what to do.

Judy - Sorry about the verdict. I hope you get to keep Mist.

wtpclc- The Sec had as many as 4 teams in the top ten at one time. We are our own worst enemy because we end up kicking each other out of the top ten. I don't, however, think that Florida deserves to be playing in the National Championship game. They are always a good team though and we love to beat them :) (I went to Auburn) We gotta come up with a better system than what we have now.

Oh, sorry Cecelia, I must have you mixed up with someone else. I remember someone running 22 and 24 miles in their planning plans.

All the best to you! It won't be long and we will all be at the start line! :grouphug:

Hi all!

Rant on.....

I :badpc: HATE :badpc: LAKE EFFECT :badpc: SNOW!!!! :badpc:

SIX TO TEN MORE INCHES TODAY?!?! ARE THEY SERIOUS!?!?!?!?!?

Rant off

Thank you, I feel much better now. :smokin:

Judy--- :grouphug:

Cam-- 23 miles!!! Wow, WTG!

Cecilia-- It does seem a little odd to me that someone would coach a first-time marathoner to stick with straight liquids throughout the race. Whatever works for you is great, but I might at least try the gels during a midweek run and see what you think.

My humble opinion on the BCS--- Well, I think in this case.... they got it right. :tiptoe: Or at least as right as they could under the current system. Until the NCAA and the university presidents decide they want a legitimate National Division I-A football championship under a playoff system, this will continue to get worse--- the system and formula are not fixable. That would require getting away from a multi-BILLION dollar coporate bowl system, so it'll probably take a while.....

Carrie-- NO JOKE! I only got halfway down my street and had to turn back. The snow wasn't too bad-- but not being able to see the ice underneath made things trecherous. And it was a win Saturday-- can't say much more than that. Can you believe we have a Sunday night game this week?!? :faint: It's going to be a looooong week. (Although it's pretty cool when my day-planner has "ESPN crew arrival" in it :thumbsup2 )

After my failed run yesterday, I was feeling pretty down about the world, so I decided to look over last year's training log and what sturck me was that, even though I feel like I'm not training like I'm supposed to, I'm actually doing better than I was last year. So long as I get these last couple of LLRs in, I'll be fine. The trouble I have been having is a crisis of confidence... and it's really not that bad after all.

Five miles today on the indoor track (cuz I am sure NOT going outside...)

Happy training all!
Kevin :earsboy:

That is cool! CAn you pencil me in that slot? ;) OK, probably too soon for me to talk to anyone remotely connected to sports announcers right now. ;) BTW, I'll forgive you this once, as you are a transplant and just don't know any better. ;) ;) ;) Sorry about having to do teh indoor track for 45 laps. Yuck! Still not sure if that or TM is worse.

Note: If I have offended anyone with my football rants today, please forgive me. I'm daddy's girl and I can still hear him yelling at the tv from 150 miles away. ;) We tend to get a little overly worked up about the home team. :goodvibes

Judy - So sorry to hear about the outcome. i do hope you get to keep Mist. It's amazing how the courts don't seem to take animal cruelty serious. If the abuser did the same thing to a child she'd be locked up and villified in the press.

Sorry, I can't offer to much advice to those requesting it. I'm still learning training techniques myself and I have a hard time sticking to a training schedule.

I don't feel too bad today (after yesterday's 11 miler). A little stiffness. The only thing that's really sore is my blister and some tightness in my achilles. Today's an off day for me.

Terri

Judy--sorry about the trial outcome--hopefully you can still get Mist! :grouphug:

Susie--I've used both the GU and shot bloks--and from only a taste preference I prefer the shot bloks--I just gag on the GU, trying to swallow that pudding-like consistency just isn't for me--I've told DH that I could just eat the shot bloks like candy--like the cran-razz flavor.

Kevin--Yeah, when it comes down to it, no university president is going to be in favor of losing all that bowl money to get a playoff instead! Always, comes down to money doesn't it???

Did an easy 3 miler today. tomorrow will be 4--but since I"m babysitting all day, I'll have to get up at 5 to do it--We'll see if that happens!

I agree with this, Terri. Andrew was with me in the car when I talked with Judy Saturday and found this out and he said "oh, man, they wouldn't do that if it were a kid!" and we compared it to being a foster parent and having the child removed from your care and placed back in an abusive home. He was as traumatized at the prospect as I'd hoped. Judy and Mist are now in Andrew's prayers as well.

I certainly wasn't offended at all. I thought it was cool to see you that fired up about Michigan Carrie. Go Blue!!! Although, even though I'm a true Blue Michigan fan, I have to say that I think the BCS got it as right as they could this time too. There will always be some team that has an argument as long as you don't have a playoff. Also, I know that Michigan only lost to OSU by 3 in their house, but (I think I need to be very careful here) I have to admit it seemed like OSU could score whenever they wanted to in that game. Michigan had the #1 rank run defense, right? But OSU was reeling off long runs for TDs whenever it wanted to. What was up with that?

Anyhow, I know I'm a transplant too, and just passed through Michigan for a little while. So maybe Carrie can forgive me for my heresy. Of course, no one better say any such thing about the Steelers...

Hi Team, I hope that everyone is having a happy Monday! :sunny: Is anyone else loving the Disboards Christmas decorations?? Okay, question time for the experts: do I run tonight or take a rest day? I can see the wisdom of both!! My IT band hurt pretty bad Saturday afternoon and evening after my run, but I have been icing my knee, take Tylenol and stretching and my knee/quad has not hurt Sunday or today. On one hand I would say rest because the rule of thumb says 3 days of rest per injury, but on the other hand I feel guilty resting!! pirate: (Which is a miracle in itself!! :lmao: )

Judy--I am so sorry about Mist. I just can't believe that monster was found not guilty. I have zero tolerance for people who abuse animals. Hopefully she will just sell Mist to you.

Carrie--Do not apologize for your football rants!! I completely understand your passion for the game. :teeth: I cannot believe that you and Scott trained in the snow and ice. Wow!! I am so glad you stopped before you seriously hurt yourself. I have to tell you, after I stopped at mile 13 on Saturday, I kept questioning myself and asking how was I going to go from 16 to 20 miles. And then I remembered that last year you went from 16 to 20 miles and you survived the marathon just fine. Thanks for being an inspiration and a voice of reason. :goodvibes

I haven't been very busy at work today, so I've been playing around on the Internet (shocking, I know ;) ). I was on Runners World and stumbled across this article about what happens when you don't have a good marathon and how to deal with it. Hopefully know will need it, but it was good for me to read, to kind of put the marathon in perspective.

It may have been me. I have always gone up to 24...and last year did a full marathon b/4 my taper started. This is just what I have always done.

Colleen--I think Dana's training program went up pretty high. At least on 22, I think, and maybe a 24. I just don't want you to think you are going  ! :teeth:

Has anyone here done any beach running or fast walking :confused3

I ask this because over my 4 days on Lido Beach in Sarasota my DF and I spent hours walking and light jogging on the shore line close to the beach. Absolutely wonderful experience and my hip/back/leg felt better than it has in months or really in an entire year. I'm back to being sore today but the 12 hr travel (4hrs lay over in Atlanta) is probably part of of that.

I wonder what I could find in nasty old cold Iowa that would compare to that type of surface? Okay nothing as beautiful or inspiring as the ocean shore but still the surface had an amazing affect on my ability to exercise

Really off topic, I know, but how did you like Lido?? We are staying at the Holiday Inn on Lido Key Easter week--normally go to Siesta Key, just wondering!
