I just  you guys!

Christa - YOUR HAIR IS SO STRAIGHT in that pic!!!! How did you do that?
Melissa - that pic of me is at DH's office party last night. I went and got my hair done for it. I normally cannot get it straight b/c it is SO curly! The girl that does my hiar worked real hard for me.

OK..My very cute DH and BIL did 22 today...WITHOUT ME! :furious: Anyway...they ran through down town..and while they were running through downtown, they stopped at a hot dog vender and got a hot dog....and then kept on running... I cannot even think about eating a loaded hot dog at mile 11 while running. :scared:

Christa - that is totally nasty!! I remember almost throwing up during a 1/2 marathon a couple of yrs. ago b/c the guy i was running w/ kept talking about eating at flying burrito afterward. YUCK! :crazy2:

Hi everybody! A quck drive by today. I took my Mom to her doctor's appt. today and had the Dr. give me an antibiotic. Everything has pretty much cleared up except the congestion. If I keep coughing up the lungers I have been, I'll have the whole marathon course to myself. no one will want to get near me

Off to get the prescription filled.

Terri

Fueling up for the last LR today! Have great runs out there everyone. Be careful and be safe! Don't anyone hurt yourself out there. I guess I need to listen to my own advice too. I still haven't decided how far I'm going out there today. I'm going to take my run as it comes and do loops instead of 1 long out and back. I'll do a 10 mile loop, and then if I feel good I'll do another one (or maybe a shorter one). I need to listen to all the advice I've gotten here and make sure I don't hurt myself. This is it guys! As other's have said, the goal is not to run 20 miles here but to run 26 in Disney.

OK, WISHers...here's another thing I just found and wanted to share..especially for Dave!

The mouse, HIMSELF, will call on Christmas day to tell the news of your WDW vacation!! How cool is that??
Thanks Anne! I signed us up. Should go well with the 4 day park hopper passes the princesses are going to open on Christmas morning.

Ugh! DH company Christmas party was last night and this morning I'm suppose to walk a 10k, but I'm sooooooooooo tired! Should I stay home, or suck it up and go?

I'm off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of... 20 miles? Well 19.7 miles actually, the exact distance from my squadron on base to my house. And DW is nice enough to follow along to let me hydrate every 2 miles. :) I've driven it countless times, now I'll be able to say I've run it once... Go get em everyone! :cheer2:

Judy -- sorry about your MIL. Hope she is doing better and they are managing her pain well.

Christa -- talented, athletic, slender, smart, compassionate, superMom AND STUNNING GORGEOUS!?!?!?!? No fair! Certain women in this population shouldn't get ALL the great characteristics! Truly, sweetie, you look so wonderful. I bet you knocked DH's socks off with that dress!

Hope everyone is having a good last LR.

I, hope in this respect, that I am in the minority. Can you say "stonker"? I wasn't in bed until nearly midnight (was working on our Christmas card) and up at 4:15. At the Y when it opened at 5 and finally quit (er. . . ended early) at 15 miles. I was exhausted and hungry and completely depleted of energy. I am sure everything just happened to conspire against me -- the cold, lack of sleep, lack of energy. Almost worse than all that was the fact that after about 6 miles I had a strange twanging pain again in the top of my ankle again. I re-tied my shoes looser, and that helped abit until it started hurting again, at which point I bagged it. UGH!

Can someone please reassure me that this is not failure but merely the deferral of success? I can't even believe that the words "only 15" are coming out of my mouth, but I'd really wanted to do 20 + a little. I guess my body is saying the taper has begun. I'm really glad I got in 20 + a 5K 2 weeks ago. I am going to have to persuade myself I can, in fact, go 26.2.

Happy Saturday, all!

Cam--unfortunately, I had a major STONKER today as well! This was the first week of 10milers and was feeling pretty good for the first 5 miles. Then after the turnaround went to get some water and the blasted drinking fountain was BROKEN!!! So, now I'm tired and really thirsty! Then about the 8 mile mark I was dying--almost to the point of throwing up! So, I walked to the next drinking fountain, thank God it worked. And then pushed through to the end of hte 10. BUt now I feel horrible! My kids have both been sick this week with the barfs, so I'm wondering if I caught their bug. But, cam, you will be able to make it through the marathon! I'll be cheering ya'll on from home! :cheer2: j

A question for ya'll, since now I can no long count on the drinking fountains being operational--how do you carry water with you on your LRs? :confused3 Any advice would be welcome

Okay, now for my mini-rant---What is it with people who walk/run 4-5 people across the trail and then don't get out of the way of one measly runner like me. I actually got pushed off the trail this morning! :furious: WTH! Okay, rant over! Had my cold soak now off to shower so we can take the little ones to see Santa today!

Greetings TEAM:

OK, I wanted to catch up with everyone before I post about my run today.

Kevin- I want to WISH you guys well in the championship game. I think you may be playing right now. Go TEAM!!!

Matt- Awesome job on your LR. Let the taper begin!

Cam- Oh, I'm so sorry your LR didn't go as you had hoped, but I'm betting you will do fine. Like people told me, you got your stonker out of the way so you can have a good race at WDW. You already got in a 20 miler (+ the 5K), and I'm betting you will be just fine. Start tapering, get yourself rested, and healed up. You really need some rest. All my best to Howard as he crams for Goofy.

Stephanie- Sorry you had a stonker LR too, but you got your 10 miles in. The veterans here say the time doesn't matter, just that you got the distance in for your LR. So based on that, you should be fine. As far as carrying water, I got a fanny pack from Sierra Trading Post (Ultimate Direction Solitaire) that holds a water bottle. I like it alot. It was recommended by MelR. I also hide water bottles along places on my route because my 1 bottle runs out.

OK - here's my report on my LR! It was an awesome run! A great run to end my training on. I did 20 miles in 3:44.48/11:14 mpm. The time's nothing to write home about, and it was only 6 mins faster than my time 2 weeks ago when I had the stonker 20 miler. However, it includes my 5 min warm up walk, a bathroom stop, and a stop at my car to get my windbreaker. The thing that made the run so good was just how I felt at the end. I was getting faster my last 5 miles, and definitely could have kept going further.

When I started my run I honestly didn't know how far I would go. I decided to do ~10 mile loops instead of the 10 mile out and 10 mile back. That way if I was feeling bad after the 1st loop, I wouldn't be stuck having to come back 10 miles. I'm glad I did the loops, because it was a little windier (sp?) than I thought when I started and I was getting quite chilled. So at the end of my first 10 mile loop, I stopped at my car and put my windbreaker on. Ooooh, that felt so much better. I then got back to the run. I impressed myself with going back out after stopping at the car at 10 miles. It was tempting to just get in the car and go, but I was feeling good so I soldiered on.

I intentionally made myself go slower in the beginning. I put some longer walking breaks in when I had my GU, etc., and I was really trying to save myself to make the long haul. I'm glad I ended my buildup phase of training with a good LR. I needed the confidence boost after my stonker 20 miler 2 weeks ago. OK, I need to take a shower now.

I hope everyone else's LRs are going well, but if they are not I'm sure you will be fine for the marathon. I just had a horrible 20 miler 2 weeks ago where I ended up walking in most of the last 5 miles, and here I am 2 weeks later with a great 20 miler. So as our veterans have been saying all along, don't read too much into one bad run. You've all put the training in, and you'll be fine. Yahooo!!!! It's taper time!!!!

Cam I  you girl!
Think of the LR this way - You did 15 more miles than me this weekend....you did great and do not worry about the last 5 miles that did not get done. You need to rest and this will be better for you in the long run...no pun :rotfl2:

That is awful!! I run on a trail with Team in training and before every run our coaches remind us to run only 2 abreast and to give way to other users of the trail. We have, however, noticed that another running group that uses the trail always run in large packs and they don't step single file when they come up on anyone else. Rude, very rude.

Hope the kids had fun with SAnta

Wow Sara, you are speedy and so consistent. Do you have mile markers set on your course or are these Garmin readings?

I get so frustrated with my Garmin, during training I can run sub 10 minute miles, but in a race my Garmin is always short on the mile markers and it takes me 10:15-10:30 to run a mile. According to the Garmin I weaved 26.62 miles around Disney last year and 26.5 miles in Chicago. Even last weekend my Garmin told me my half marathon was 13.45 miles. Anyway, great job, you will have an excellent full marathon time!

As for training for me, DS was sick with the stomach flu yesterday and was home from school so my 10/20 has been shifted a day later. I ran/walked an easy 10 miles today in about 1:52. We will see if I can hammer out 20 miles tomorrow???

Dave, excellent job on your LR! :thumbsup2

Cam, yes life gets in the way of training. You weren't physically feeling 100% so it was wise to cut it short today. You will do great in the marathon!

Matt, and everyone else, can't wait to here how your LR's went today. I know it will help motivate me for my LR tomorrow!

Colleen

Sara - WOW!! You were haulin' Great job!!

Cam - I ran a much shorter run today too (14 on trail) Anyway, since those 2 loops i did (somewhere between 19-19.5 trail) I have had terrible runs!! I had a great one today. I think my body needed to back off after the really long one. I'll bet that is what you experienced. You are going to do great on the marathon!!! You always end up racing faster than you think you will (i'm not saying "you" collectively, i'm saying you!)

As for me, somewhere around 13.5-14 today on the trail. It was a great run at a pace slower than i usually move and i feel really good. I think I'm going to "taper" now. I put that in quotes b/c what i'm going to do ismore like rest b/c i really did build up on the right schedule. I did my longest run about 1 month ago! :confused3 :teeth:
