Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Just back from WDW so I'll be brief!

No LR for me...foot's been complaining and after 2 days walking EPCOT, MGM and MK, it's not gotten any happier! Osborne lights are very cool, so was the new Nemo ride and Turtle talk with Crush! And we had an encounter with the dream squad at MK so got taken directly to the front of the line for wild todd's first adventure on the Speedway!

Update on Fri night dinner, now to be held at Pop Century food court!

Kristi - I love your lights! And the Mickeys - how cute! :thumbsup2

Terri - glad your mom is ok. How scary! I just got over a cold last week. Seems like I was blowing my nose every few minutes. No fun. Hope yours doesn't last long.

Anne - don't you live in Florida? Was it 20 degrees the other night?

Matt - congrats on your PR. Awesome! :cool1:

Dave - congrats on your race! Looks like you had to dodge some ice on the road. :scared:

Mel - Congrats on being chosen by the Dream Team. :sunny: I'm going to WDW this Wednesday for 4 nights. I've got to do my 10 mile run on Sat. while I'm down there...after being in the parks for 2 days. Hmmmm, I wonder how that's going to turn out. I'm glad I have an appt. for an hour massage afterwards. :teeth: By the way, I used to live in the Osborne's neighborhood during the time he had all those lights on his house. It was pretty awesome but I'm glad they are at Disney now.

Well, I did my 6 miles today instead of yesterday. I decreased the mileage but upped the running. For my 8 miles last week, I was supposed to W3/R1. Actually, I did the 8 on a treadmill and I was able to W2/R2. However, being outside is so much harder for me for some reason. I did W3/R2 according to plan but it was tough. Here are my times:

Mile 1: 13:53 PR :cheer2:
Mile 2: 14:09
Mile 3: 14:28
Mile 4: 14:11
Mile 5: 14:27
Mile 6: 14:40

I tried to be a good girl and train this weekend, but it just did not work out like i wanted. Phil is out of town on his yearly man/climbing trip and i have the boy all to myself. He has been sick since thursday (he doesnn't have a fever anymore, but now it is ear infection). Of course that would happen w/ phil out of town. Not that he would treat him for anything major, but he could centainly help w/ the ear infection (he did help, it was just long distance help). Then, my parents came into town to keep me company (read go christmas shopping w/ me and the boy) I hate shopping for stuff other than outdoor gear and i really hate shopping w the boy. Then to top it all off, i had to cancel my run this morning b/c that would have stuck my mom and dad w/ the boy during his infirmed, i miss my daddy tender state just as he was waking up and it was my mom's b/day to boot!!! So..... my 15 on the trail turned into 8 on the treadmill (we don't have a tv in front of the tm yet and since the boy was still up i couldn't do the headphone thing) Blech!!!! I'm thinking about eating bad food and going to bed!!!!

Also, i did the stupidest thing to my feet. I found these really cute toe socks at wal-mart so i have been wearing them. mostly b/c they are very funny and weird. i also bought some danskin athletic socks there. they do not have a flat seam at the top of the toe. The toe socks have rubbed little hot spots under my toes where the seams are and the danskin socks have rubbed hotspots across the tops of my toes. i can't believe my feet are such a mess in my effort to look funny and weird. honestly, i'll bet i could have easily achieved that w/o the socks!!!

I'm hopiing to get a ride and a short run in tomorrow.

Susie - you still have the lovely osborne flags year round don't you? I always looked forward to seeing their house every year just b/c it was so insane. I think it got a little over the top when he bought the 2 houses on either side and decorated them as well. I did walk by one time instead of drive and he and his wife were passing out candy canes. they seemed quite nice. I remember when we lived there (little rock) he became sort of an urban legend. I always heard really interesting and eccentric stories about him. I imagine 1/2 of them weren't true, but i liked to think they were :sunny:

Sunny - I think sick kid merits melodrama!!! (obviously, i mean look at my whiney post from just a husband being out of town and an ear infection!! :rotfl: :rotfl: )

Susie, yes, inland north FL has hit 16 and 18 degrees in the last two weeks! Only at night, though. I get to stop covering my plants at night for the rest of the week at least. See my post to Vic, it was 20 degrees at 8 a.m. Saturday, but warmed up quickly. You are doing such a great job with your training! Keep it up!!
Kristi , tell Chad he really did an AWESOME job on your house!! What fun!! :thumbsup2 My DH never has and never will put up lights outside the house. Bah Humbug! I did manage to use the satellite cable wire that runs under the eaves to hang some garland above the windows and the garage door, but that will be it.
Iceman, I liked your sign suggestion!! :goodvibes

Good Morning TEAM!

Mel - I own a pair of the toe socks too, but only wear them for halloween...I don't find them very comfortable either.

Where does the Osborne family live? I had never heard of them til WDW.

I walked 4 miles last night and boy did my left heal hurt afterwards...that's never happened before, so I'm wondering if it's time for a pair of new shoes. I have a 10k this Saturday, so I'm hoping it doesn't act up again.

Morning Everyone,

Sorry for not posting more last week -- I had intended to but it has been super busy at work.

Last week - I did get a couple of the shorter runs done, of course doing a combination between walking and running. I also did a couple of days of crosstraining by myself (doing my BOSU workout) and working out with my personal trainer.

My personal trainer is way more helpful than the physical therapist. I'm a little dissapointed that I had to pay that much money to go and see her, not to mention the time missed at work (we are quite busy with end of year stuff).

Last night, I did a combination of running/walking on threadmill and riding the stationary bike -- I did this to accomplish my 20 miles (I got the idea of Amy Beth last week mentioning about maybe training on the ellipitical). I split it in half and did 10 miles on the threadmill and just about 15 miles on the stationary bike.

I know I will be undertrained for Marathon weekend but I'm doing my best.....trying to stay active and doing crosstraining to make my body a little bit stronger. Most of the stuff I've been doing was to target "Core" muscles. :goodvibes

This morning -- I go for a follow-up with the doctor, I hope everything goes well.

Have a good day everyone!

Jodi

Guys -- One more question

I have a bad feeling that my friend that is registered to do the Goofy with me -- won't show. Is there anyone that I can hang with during the marathon/half marathon?

I probably won't run the 1/2 -- speed walking for that one (or at least my attempt at speedwalking). Then for the Marathon, running/walking.....I would love to do a 12 min/mil.

Hi All! Out of hiding :)

We only managed a 6 Mile LW this weekend. We had to bowl on Sunday and Susan had to finish a paper yesterday too so we cancel our Sunday park visit. The weather currently is looking promising for Thursday and the weekend so we will keep our fingers crossed for some nice weather for outdoor training.

Susan's feet are doing much much much better. Since I last posted (probably Oct) we have managed to get in 10, 11 and even a 12 mile LW with her only getting 1 blister and NO foot pain. She switched back to walking shoes to get thru Jan's Half and then will begin the search for the perfect running shoe.

During training I've managed to take out a Pal 3 times now and only a small issue in the beginng but I think both Susan and I will be have Pals with us for the Half. I found a perfect little kitty harness that fits nicely around him and is snug to my water belt. He's even wearing the kid size WISH bracelet :teeth: I made up an iron-on over the weekend that has that Donald logo and his fake bib info on it LOL We're definitely getting excited about the coming trip.

In other news I had good luck at REI finding tights/pants on the clearance rack for probably close to what I would have paid at Target had I been able to find a pair there. I've been having bad luck in the current season. So if you have an REI by you do stop in and check their clearance racks. I need a n x-large and always half heartedly looked so was pleased to find they had something besides petite small left ;) OH! And we tried Powergel Caramel that we found there. I had such problems at DL getting my Clif Shots out of my bottle that it's been at the front of my worry list and I think we're going to use Caramel for this one. It's much runnier than the chocolates.

Hope everyone has a good training week and that colds and sniffles are kept at bay!!!

Kevin - COngratulations on going to finals!!! You guys got some great PR last night! DId you meet Gary thorn or the other guy. (Keep) forgetting his name as I always put Gary thorn with Bill Climment (sp)) Chris Spielman? ANyway, they say great things about your school the whole time and at the end menitned what a great job people did taking care of them. I did get the feeling that Climment accidentally went ot the wrong campus first , though. lol. Have a great trip and good luck this weekend! BTW, I must agree with the annoucers that that was teh saddest gatorade dousing I've ever seen. :rotfl: :wizard: :wizard: on finals!

Mel - Too cool about FOTL fro teh speedway! Hope you're feet are doing better!

Cecelia - COngrats ont he 20!!

DAve - FYI - Just runnign in teh cold alone takes it out of you. DH and I decided it's about a 20% difference. Not to mention all the xtra layers you have.. You will be fine!!

Matt - COngrats ont eh PR!
Terri - :wizard: to feel better soon. Better now than later. OK, now I'm gettign paranoid. ;) So glad that you mom is fine!

Kristi - Awesome lights!

Cam - Yay!!! SO glad they foudn your Garmin!!!

Susie - Pace looks great on teh 6! Way to go!

MelR - Sorry about the socks. Oh, the silly things we do for looks. Having sandal flashbacks. :wizard: for quick healing!

Jodi - They way you did your 20 sounds great! You'll be fine! Have you checked out the pace groups. If all else fails, the 5-hr goup should be around 11:30. I'm sure there'l be someone closer to your speed.

Diane - Good to hear frm you. Glad Susan''s feet are diong better! SOUonds liek you 2 are good to go!!

monica - Hope your heel's doing better! :wizard:

Well, count me in the no LR group for theis weeknd. :( Friday night We went to a hockey game with my parents. We always go in teh back door, because it gets us out of the cold quicker and it was cold! Well, that means a ton of stairs. (Not good) DUe to some logistic issues, I went 1/2 wway up, back down and up again, back to the back of the parkign lot, wandered in circles and back up. By then I was hurting and ticked. Going down at the end hurt too. I was still hurting Saturday morning, so I didn't do the LR.

Instead, we wrestlked with teh X-mas tree. Unfrtunately, we put a lot of work in to the ugliest tree you've ever seen. :( I took a gamble tha twhen we separated a tree w/2 trunks, we'd still get a nice tree. I was wrong. My parent say that it looks good beacuse it's really bright (Because you see the fron and back lights at the same time. (yeah, it's that bad.) My dad also liked teh way you can see all of the ornaments from one view. Once again, it's THAT bad. Being able to see all of the oraments, including many tha tmove on their own and many on spinners, really looks chaotic. I'm just chalking it off that 1 out of 11 trees is awful. It's done.

The big news? EVerything is melting!!!!!!!! Still doing the gym tonight, but it's highly likely that our 20-miler will be outside!!!! (Crossing my fingers) Now, I just need to decide if I'm doing the TM tonight or the eliptical. I'm leaning towards eliptical and if that goes ok, TM wed and Thiursday (or maybe outside).

Have a great week everyone!!!

Morning all! :sunny:

Have a 4 miler today, so will be heading to the gym in a few. I"m anxiously awaiting my shoes in the mail today--will definitely be stalking the UPS man today!

Monte--Jennings Osbourne lives in Little Rock. Years ago, before they "lighted" Disney, they used to put up all those lights on their house--and the 2 houses on either side of them that they purchased. After the first couple of years, the display got so out of hand that traffic would be backed up for miles and the city (and their blinded neighbors) "politely" asked them to tone it down. That's when they moved most of the operation to Disney. Now they just have a huge lighted American flag over their property!

Good morning Wish Team!!!! Happy Monday!!! It sounds like everyone had a good weekend (except for MelR--sorry the boy is sick!!) with training and racing. This weekend was fairly low key for me, I had a taper back week and ran 8 miles. I ended up doing it on the treadmill Saturday morning as it was 20 degrees when I woke up Saturday morning. I like running in the cold, but I just wasn't in the mood to be out in the cold when the house is so warm. Also, I had a doctor's appointment later in the afternoon (yes, I let it slip I was training for a marathon ;) ) and when I HAVE to be somewhere after a run, I like to stay as close to home as possible, just in case something crazy would happen. SO, back to the run, it was a great run; I wore the correct IT band and I didn't have ANY pain in hip, quad, or knee. I did the first 4 miles at r4/w2 ave 11:26 and then the last 4 miles at r4/w1, I don't know my mile ave, I'm guessing around 11:00. I finished the 8 miles exactly at 1:30, watching "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" really helped the time to fly by!!! After my run and my doctor's appointment, I baked cookies all Saturday afternoon and finished up last night; I made around 12 dozen cookies plus fudge, my legs are more tired after standing in the kitchen all day then after I run!! I'm so glad I thought to have baking weekend on a taper back week. :) So this week is the biggie, the monster week--is anyone else a little nervous??

Dave--Great job on your 10K!!! That course looks desolate!! Don't worry about your pace, you just came off of running a 20 miler the week before and your body is still feeling the effects of that. You are going to rock the marathon!!

MelR--I hope the boy is feeling better today!!!

Kristi--Your house is out of control!!!!! I love it!!!!!! Tell Chad great job!!

Mel--Take care of your foot!! I'm sorry it's acting up 3 weeks before the marathon, just rest it and ice it and lay off the high heels.

Diane--I can't believe you and Susan are going to run with Pal Mickey! That is so cute. I guess we'll really recognize you on the course. :)

Terri--I am so glad that your mom is okay; how scary!!!!

That sounds like a long run to me..... YOu had a very energetic weekend so let it count for something!

MelR - yes, from what I've heard, Jennings is quite a character. :teeth: I met him once - he was very nice.

The link below will take you to some of the pictures of his house lit up in Little Rock. It all started when his daughter Breezy wanted some red lights on their house for Christmas one year. The pictures don't do it justice. You don't get to see the two houses on either side of his house all lit up as well.

Also, when you get into the site, click on the Disney link at the bottom of the page. It will take you to the story behind the lights at Disney.

Osborne Lights

Osborne lights - Their last night will be SUnday night. It is a must see. My crew will be going before teh IIlluminations party. Last year, Scott adn I did everythign that we possibley coul dwrong after teh marathon. SO, when we woke up just in time to clean up and go, we were not moving well. It was not a pretty hobble (Thank goodness for our medals or people would have thought we were physically challenged.) ANyway, it was well worth it. If you have not seen them before you must go. It was like walking int o another world.

Hey all, sorry for the long absence but with DW recovering from her car accident and
overload at work I haven’t even been lurking the boards. I have, however, continued my training – it is the only reason I am still somewhat sane – and did my final double long run this past weekend. On Friday – took a vacation day – I hit the TM and got in 10.5 miles then went out in the cold – so cold that I had to chip the ice off my mustache a couple of times - Saturday morning and got in 19 miles. I was actually trying to do 21 or 22 on Saturday but I kind of went out too fast and actually was going to stop at 12 miles. I did stop at my car, got out my bottle of Cliff recovery drink and said to myself I am going to walk for a mile or so then hang it up. Well, I got to walking then ½ mile later found myself running and just kept going til I had logged an additional 7 miles. With wanting to quit at 12 miles, I feel like this was a breakthrough run proving to myself that I can do this Goofy thing.

Well, good training all and PD and Hugs :grouphug: to all in need. Only 4 weeks and we will be talking about our combined accomplishments at the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend.

Happy Monday!!! Looking forward to a mostly uneventful week :thumbsup2 .
I did 13 miles on Saturday for my LR and 6 miles this morning. My company work party took up the rest of the weekend (overnight thing).

Mel - I hope the foot works itself out. :wizard: My PF always acts up whenever I go away and spend more time on my feet, even if I am diligent about only wearing running shoes with inserts. Thanks for the update on the WISH meet on Friday night.

Susie - Best of luck getting in the 10-miler at WDW. Not the easiest thing to do, that's for sure. If the TM works best for you, I'd go with that option.

MelR - So sorry about the feet!! :wizard: I hope the boy gets better real soon and that Phil is back in town to help you out.

Jodi - There is a thread for pacing partners or something like it that Colleen posted so we could hang with those who are running the same pace. Glad to hear the personal trainer is helpful. Better to be undertrained than overtrained.

Diane - Great to "see" you again!! Glad you're keeping the blisters at bay and that Susan's feet have gotten better.

Carrie - LOL about the ugly tree. I hope it stays warm enough for you to get the LR in outdoors. It looks like the forecast is on your side as of today. :cheer2:

My DD5's kindergarten bus buddy has an Aunt who is running her first WDW marathon in January and I was able to meet her over the weekend. I showed her my Mickey, Donald and Goofy medals and I gave her all of the useful information I could think of. She is really psyched for the experience and I am hoping to catch up with her in WDW.

Best of luck to all in training this week. I can't wait for my FINAL 20 miler this weekend!!!

DH got in a run for the first time in 3 weeks :rolleyes1 or so this morning. I have been good about keeping my mouth shut in regard to his recent lack of ambition :confused3 , so I am hoping he can pull it together for the 1/2.

Teri-- Here's :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: to get you well, ASAP. I was sick all last week. No fun!

Mel-- Here's:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for your foot.

MelR-- You, being weird? Naaaah, I can't beleive it :rotfl2: Sorry to hear the Boy has been sick. Mine is finally on the mend. He has been sick on/off since Thanksgiving. Then I caught one of his bugs. Yuck. Speaking of DS; he asked for "race car" curtains for Christmas. So I went ot the fabric store and bought Jeff Gordon flannel fabric (there weren't alot of choices). I now know that Jeff Gordon is #24 in the world of Nascar. That exhausts my knowledge of Nascar ;) He'll be the only kid on the block with flannel curtains! I made a matching pillow, too. There will be no photos, however, because my sewing skills are non-existent.

Kristi-- Wow! Tell Chad that is awsome! I love the snowflakes on the roof and the mickey heads are adorable.

Goofyguy-- How's your wife doing? You are doing great, keeping up with your Goofy training with all that is going on in your life.

Carrie-- I'm not thrilled with my tree this year either. We made two trips (one to tag it, one to cut it) = 100 miles. Cost = $55. Tree = blah. I can totaly relate with the Christmas stuff crowding in on the training.

As for training; I checked my records and realized that I've only missed on LR and a few of the back-to-back MLRs. But I've only had one week this entire season with less than three rest days! So I'll set out to prove that one need only do the LRs to make it to the finish line...

Sunny

sara - That is so cool that you could help inspire another marathoner!!!!!!!

Sunny - Hope evryone, including you, is feeling better. lol. At least my tree was free. We have about an acre that used to be a tree farm, so we take ours from there. I have a hrad time thaking the beautiful ones that stand alone, even though we intend to replant, so I tend to take those with character. This one just had a little mroe than usual. :confused3

goofyguy - That is awesome!! Way to go!!! Sorry thigns have been so rough for you. Hope the dw is recovering quickly!

Hi, everyone! No LR this weekend. Should have been 8, but no-go, with decorating, cooking, working, shopping & entertaining. Thought I'd do it this morning, but I overslept, so I only had time for 5. Done in 1:12:26 (pace 14:29, I think).

Busy at work this week. Away at a seminar tomorrow and tied up on a hearing most of Wednesday. Miss you guys already, but will check in whenever I can.

Kristi -- Tell Chad his efforts are much appreciated -- the lights are gorgeous!

Dave -- great picture! You look strong and happy. :cool1:
