HI EVERYONE!!!!!!

Just a quick post to let everyone know that I have not disappeard I'm just drowning in my MBA class  . My final is due on Wednesday and that paper that is required is just mind boggling. It requires the use of statistics for analysis purposes and it is not my strong point :guilty:

If anyone wants to check out my project click below. Some great Disers took time to fill this out. Now I just have to figure out stats and write the rest of the paper :badpc:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1191969

Eating out of control, no exercising whatsoever. Gosh I'm such as whiner. Sorry! :sad2:

Somehow someway I'll get back on track

:wizard: to all you Floridans!

Hope everyone is doing great. Will try to catch up soon

Minne (Suzy)

Hi Minnie!

Glad to see you posting. Your project looks fascinating. Will we get to read the final paper? I'm all ears :earsboy:

Sunny

Went mountain biking on the bronc today in prep for the adv. race season. Big mistake!!! The bronc was up to her old tricks and threw me for a major endo. I hit the top/back of my helmet adorned head on a small tree b/4 landing downhill. My neck is really sore and i bit my tounge!! I wish i could figure out what my prob is on that bike!! Lynn, do you think if i'm riding w/ flat bars and a short stem that i might be too far forward and i keep my weight up front so i go off? The truth of the matter is that i had one foot off the bike at the time b/c the hill was so steep. i think it was getting away from me so i hit the brakes and they are tight (hydraulic) so off i went!!!!!

Running is so much easier my body and ego!!

Hey all! Another quickie!
Looks like everyone is doing great on training. :cool1:

I am mainly swimming this week until my LR on Friday. I think I hurt my foot. I blame it on 3 things:
1) Running 8 mpm on SIDEWALKS for over 1/2 of my 14 mile LR! AHHHH!
2) Wearing Jazz shoes for a show the day after my LR! They have crazy arches!
3) Cleaning the house with no shoes on after all the above! :confused3

Anywho....I am taking it easy and this is NOT easy for me! :furious:

Mel - Question??? How do I get my name on the 2007 WISH list??

Melissa - I think you are the one to ask for this....you have a problem eating enough after running, biking, ect????? As I up my running mileage, I continue to lose weight. This normally would be a good thing, but I am at/below the bottom of my BMI and don't need to loose anymore....any suggestions? OH, I have a friend that wants me to go climbing with her! Sounds fun, but I have never climbed b/4.

Hi everyone, I'm here to whine. My run last night did not go good, in fact it was awful and it turned into a 40 minute walk. I was excited to get to run outside, as it rained all morning long causing the temps to drop. As soon as I took my first step, my calves (both, not just left calf) were SCREAMING they felt so tight (when you touch my calves, you can feel the tightness in them), I had pain shooting down from my heel all the way up to my back. I ran a mile and then decided to walk the remaining 30 minutes just to get some exercise in. I have no idea what is causing this. It doesn't make sense that my calves are perfectly fine one day and the next day they hurt and it doesn't make sense that it was my left calf before and now it's both calves. I think maybe running outside (after doing the treadmill exclusively for the past 3 weeks--other than 5k's) may have triggered the pain, what is the problem in the first place? My shoes? I've been wearing New Balance 856's since May 05 and I haven't had any problems, the pair I have now I got right before the WDW half, but the tread is okay on them. I just can't figure it out and it's frustrating me.

Lynnda-- :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: for you, Bill and your entire family.

:wizard: :wizard: for all you Floridians. Stay safe!!!!

Aladdins girl my db and DSIL have the same problem when they go from in to out. Probally will just take time to work through. I always run out even in the winter. I would just try to get out again you will do just fine. It is also a big difference in breathing out to in especially in the heat and humidity. Just keep it up you'll do it.

Krista - I am so sorry about the pain in your claves! I have no idea if this is related, but I would get new shoes. I heard it should be about every 6 months. If you've been running on the TM, the tread my be fine, but the insides of the shoe could still be worn out and then you'd be taking more stress in the legs. Hope it gets better soon! Also, teh Penguin says that if somethign hurst, the first thing to check is your shoes.

MelR - OMG! I hope your neck is better soon. Glad you are relatively ok!

Mel - COngrats on your great "run"!!!!!

Sunny - Hope the PT helps!!!!! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Christa - SOrry about the foot pain. Plese do give your foot a rest!

Minnie - Many of us have been having eating issues! Join the club! Hope you find somethign that works for you soon!

Cam - Congrats to ds, although I'm sure mine are nto quite the same. ;) We'll add you to teh "back on teh wagon" group! ;) Ugh! I'm thinking perhaps we nee to ressurect teh TEA threads.

Lynnda & Bill - I'm so sorry about your grandmother. Hope evrythign goes as good as it can. Hope you get your power back soon too!

Judy - As long as you're not pushing too hard, youshould be fine on teh 5Ks. Just make sure they don't get in the way of gettign you distance in for your LRs.

Speaking of tickers..... :rolleyes1 Holy cow! I leave for ALaska in 10 days!!!! Woo hoo. Here's what runnign geeks think about when preparign for a cruise. "So, when we're runnign on teh ship, will teh Garmin catch that we are moving and the ship is moving. Will we have a spiral map?" :teeth: That would be my dh. Still, I'm wondering how much that would effect our mileage. Might need to actually count the laps. ;)

OK, I know I'm still missing a bunch of you. I'll try hard to catch up before I leave for over a week. Yikes!!!!

Christa - I do have probs keeping up w/ calorie intake after long runs/bikes... I started doing the protien shake when i get home from a long workout. I also eat a gel every 40mins. I have been using a drink w/ cals in the summer (my preference is accelerade as it has electrolytes and protein) Another thing that helps a ton but i don't often get to do after a long workout is take a nap. If you are awake after a long workout, you burn more calories than if you get a nap! Basically, i figure i burn about 100 cals per mile, so i do my best to replace them. The glass of chocolate milk that you suggested last year is really good! If you use skim milk and nesquick instead of other choc syrups, you don't get much sat. fat, but you still get the choc goodness and cals!!!

Krista - I think Carrie is right, new shoes might be a good idea. Mine never look that bad, but I usually really hurt when I need new ones. I ran the 1/2 mar of goofy w/ some shoes that i didn't think needed replacement last yr and i actually go blisters!!

Carrie - i wish i could actually ride w/o crashing. My neck really hurts now! I'm glad i had a helmet, or my head would have hit the tree. I have been getting lots of sympathy from phil!!

Hi all!

Just a quick (completely selfish) drive-by for the moment. I promise to catch up tomorrow when I have a minute to breathe...

I need a sincere butt-kicking here........

I Haven't Run in 8 days!!!

:guilty: :faint:

I know, I know!!! I'm a slug ! I have been busy, I know, but not so busy I can't do a quick 35 minutes!! Gah!! I can't shake outta this rut right now.. and I need to get started BAD!!

My solumn declaration is that I WILL get up in the morning and get my run in. If I have to get up at 4:30AM I will.

Thank you for allowing me to confess... I feel a little better.

Kevin :earsboy:

how important is the expiration date on these? Are they really bad after the date, or still good for awhile?

Kevin - from one former slug to another --> :cool1: (me kicking your behind into gear)

Lynnda & Bill - :grouphug:

Quickie post for me too - I promise, promise, promise to catch up tomorrow!

Chad & I hit the YMCA indoor track for the first time this afternoon. I am so not liking this indoor track thing. First of all, I have to remember to hit 'lap' every time around the track. I was doing 5 miles, so that was 35 laps. And the Garmin doesn't show you how many laps or anything, so I had to keep going into the menu, history, by day, today's date - to get to my laps and see where I was. Pain in the butt! Nevermind, an indoor track is boring! I was all over the place:
14:31
11:59
12:33
12:16
13:04
1:04:37

I got really tired and almost shortened to 3 or even 4 miles midway. I am glad I stuck it out though! Sunny - I was thinking about what a fool I was being (wanting to quit) since there are people like you with medical issues that would kill be walking/running around that track! That got me determined to finish. :cool1: Look at that - I kicked my own butt! :rotfl:

Hi Everyone,

Tried to do some catching up….I know I didn’t get everyone (I’m sorry),but I’m still thinking about all of you!

Don't forget chat...8:30pm EDT on Wed
Oh, I’m going to have run earlier…..I really want to make the chat this time around. :goodvibes

Paul – I’m sorry……I jumping on this a little late but congrats to you and your wife :cheer2:

Hey – I have a question for all of you that did the Disney Marathon before….I really like the Under Armor’s Heatgear for summer but can that be used for Disney? Or should I get coldgear? I know the start off is really cold but overall does it get hot enough (during the day) that I should use Heatgear? Just trying to get a list together for things that should be packed for running.

Also, Garmin – can that be brought on in the carryon or should it be packed?

Hi Jodi sounds like your Team in Training workouts are off to a good start. How are you feeling about the fundraising? My hat's off to you for taking that on - it's such a great cause. Hope your ankle tenderness is nothing serious.
The fundraising is the hardest part for me, all I can do is try….The ankle has seemed to improve believe it or not icing seems to help it. The ankle thing seems to show up every time I use the treadmill. I think going back and forth between running outside and running on TM is bugging it. That and I still don’t think I have the correct running sneakers for me.

How is your shin doing since last night Dave? Did icing help you as well. It’s amazing the way that helps – I got up this morning and felt great….I’m also going to try and cross train more :goodvibes .

I have registered for a 5K on Sunday Sept 24th (The Bigelow run that I get to meet Jodi at! YAY!) Then I was thinking of doing another 5K on Saturday Sept 30th. Is this stupid? Realize I'm not flat out running these races. I'm doing my intervals and it's more for the experience than winning. Do you think those two 5Ks are too close together? I'm doing 3.2 miles 4 times a week anyway, plus one LW.
Woo hoo :woohoo: – looking forward to the Bigelow! Judy as long as you think you can handle two 5k’s I say go for it….but make sure to maybe rest a few more days than usual…..There is a little bit of a difference between the TM and the Road….for some reason, I always have the stitch in the side thing happen to me when I run on the road but almost never happens on the TM.

Oh Lynda/Bill – I’m so sorry to hear about your loss :grouphug:

Hi everyone! Let's see if I can remember everything...

Carrie - I am totally laughing at your DH's comments about the ship moving and you moving...too funny.

Lynnda and Bill - Prayers and Pixie dust for you!

Kristi - I hate doing laps like that, too. I can never figure out where I am at!

Melissa - Scary! I hope your neck is feeling better. Thank goodness for helmets!

Cam - How cool for your son! Sorry about the weather...hope this week is better for you!

Well, I ran tonight and am a little worried because I went back to my old shoes and my foot still hurt. :guilty: I didn't go as far as I wanted or run as much as I wanted. Plus, my trusty Nike sports watch died in the night and I didn't have it to tell me where I was time-wise. The good news is that I don't need to run the next two days as I am swimming and biking. It is still worrisome to me. I am icing it tonight and hopefully it will get better.

Happy training!

Carrie & Melissa--Thanks for the advice, I was kind of wondering if maybe it was the shoes. Totally guessing, my shoes have 300 maybe 400 miles on them (2 half marathons, training for 1 of the halfs, and general running since the Flying Pig 1/2 in May), I kept looking at the tread and while it's a little worn, it's not totally shot, didn't think about cushioning in the shoe. I started having pain in left calf about a month ago, it has since moved down into my heel and now both calves are hurting. Oh, I love this sport. I think I'm going to head to the running store this weekend and get some new shoes.

Which brings me to my next question: what shoe should I get? What does everyone wear and what is the best thing about that shoe? I've been running in New Balance 856's for 15 months, but they don't make the 856's anymore--I think it's a perfect time to try other brands to see if I can find a better shoe for me (over pronator). Or maybe New Balance is the perfect shoe for me, won't know unless I try. I of course will get what is comfy and what the running store recommends, but I'm curious what you guys have to say.

I better get off here and get to bed, not looking forward to the sore abs I will have tomororw, I did pilates for my cross training--I know I'm going to feel it in the morning!!!

In case you don't browse the Disboards, there is going to be a re-order of the WISH Team Shirts. To make certain the shirts arrive before the January Half/Full, though, we need to get the order off quickly -- order by Sept 8th.

Please spread the word to anyone you think might be interested. We need a minimum of 24, but we'll get a price break if we order 50 or more.

All the details are in the first post of the thread here:

WISH Team Re-order Thread

(Sorry for the "commercial" interruption  -- I missed the first order myself and I just wanted to make sure anyone else who missed out would hear about our re-order plans.)

This had me laughing and thinking for a little bit but here is the conclusion and if you want the math to back it up I can attempt to provide that later.

Essentially if the cruise ship is moving, then the Garmin will be ineffective in measuring your pace. Providing you run at about the same pace going in each direction of the cruise ship, the Garmin will just give you the speed the cruise ship is going. The distance it measures will be the distance the cruise ship has traveled while it was turned on. You also won't get nice spirals, it will probably be a fairly straight line with small steps back and forth just like if you keep changing sides of the road while running.

However if the ship is stopped in port then the Garmin will work as normal.

So I would count the laps that you do to be sure. It would be fun to try the Garmin and see exactly what happens but don't expect accurate readings.

morning fellow runners! i have to make a mental note for the chat tonight. hopefully i'm home in time. i have to go to a stupid wine tasting for work at 530 tonight. hopefully it won't take long and i'll be home in time. if not, enjoy!

run was good this morning. did 5 miles, 44:53. running in the morning is so much harder than running in the evening though! but i'd rather get it done and over with for the day. then i have the afternoon to do whatever i want when i get home from work. that and the race is in the morning so it makes sense to get used to running in the morning. makes me think of my swimming though. i always swam much better at night during finals than in the morning.

Thanks everyone for all the prayers and pixie dust. While my grandmothers death wasn't unexpected it was still a shock. However she isn't in pain anymore and since she broke her hip a couple of months ago that is all she has known for a while.

We are starting to get the rain bands from Ernesto and it really isn't conducive to running right now. Today's training may have to get postponed until tomorrow. Although the track now has it exiting about 40 miles from our house so that is a little closer than I would like it. ;)

Providing we actually keep power today, I will try to catch up on everyone.

Krista - My understanding is that you need to get new shoes every 300-400 miles. As far as which ones to get, I would definately suggest going to a store that specializes in running and have someone there help you. They can usually analyze your gait and suggest shoes that will work well for you.

wfloyd - Be careful in the storms, and here's to hoping you keep power. We shouldn't be feeling the bands of this storm until later this afternoon. Thank goodness we'll get to sleep through most of it.

Dana
