Wk of Aug 27--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

way to go pungodingy and kristi! that's awesome!

lily: haha thanks! i'm really glad i found this. i got really lazy last year around the middle of september. and then when it got cold outside i kind of stopped running altogether. so yeah, the marathon kind of killed me. so i have that pushing me to keep training right and then i have you guys to keep me going i'm pretty excited about this year! (name's holly by the way ;) )

you guys will be so proud of me... i got a new watch tonight! whoohoo! :cheer2: and i'm going to be smart and not wear this one while diving so hopefully it will last :rotfl2:

No running today, but got in LR yesterday.
mile 1 13:26
mile 2 12:26
mile 3 12:42
mile 4 13:09
mile 5 15:06 (with bathroom break)
Last .42 at 19:42 pace so daughter could bike with me (she learned how to ride without training wheels this weekend). No aches & pains today. Keep moving forward.

Like everyone else, I too got in my longer LR this weekend, 9 miles for me. Headed over to Pensacola NAS and ran the perimeter of the base after figuring out the right length of course on gmaps. Great tool that is! Was basically painless, and although the first 3 miles before the sun went down were rough, the last 6 were almost comfortable! And after maintaining close to 10 mpm pace throughout, I decided to kick it up the last mile and run to the beat of the last song, and cranked out an 8:30, even though I'd already run 8 miles! :Pinkbounc Something like 85 minutes total.

Still hoping to average 9mpm for dland for the magical 1:59:59 or under, we'll see how it goes...

A quick post during a small break in getting ready for a storm/hurricane that wants to vacation in my backyard. I think I will be with Mel in doing the cross training of moving plywood around the house. :lmao:

I was able to get a little run in today. I went 5.07 miles with an overall pace of 11:03. I don't have the splits yet since I haven't gotten around to downloading them. With the list of things that need to be done soon, it may be a while as well.

If life wasn't interesting enough with a hurricane, I also may be flying out to Texas for my grandmothers funeral. Apparently things are not going well and it is just a matter of time. Although the aforementioned hurricane may mess those plans up as well. In addition to the fact that we leave next week for the DL half. If I can get through September then the rest of the year should be a piece of cake.

Great job on all the training times. At this rate the WDW marathons will be no problem. Time to get back to recutting plywood...

Bill

Well, I have been missing for a couple of weeks, but I promise it was for a good reason. Last week I spent the week with DH and girls in California, and yes of course we visited DL. I still love WDW way better, but anything Disney is gold in my book. So the week prior my mom was in the hospital and that kept me out of commission from the boards.

My running has been slacky. I walked every day at DL, but no running because there really isn't a great place to do that. I wanted to run tonight, but it is after 9:00 and I am just settling down. My DD3 blew a huge bedtime fit and before that I was at school open house for my kindy-baby!

I am begging DH to roll my bog booty out of bed tomorrow morning so I can hit the treadmill for at least 30 minutes. After having kids I am no longer a morning person... oh wait, I'm not a night person anymore either. POOOO!!!

Very proud of myself tonight! 2.25 miles in 33:52. Pace is not that fancy, but intervals are now at W2/R8. I have officially changed my coolrunning log to 'running' instead of 'walking' :cool1:

Bill...sorry...looks like the storm is heading your way now. Hopefully it won't strengthen much once it gets out over the open water again. If you havent already got storm shutters, mysafefloridahome.com. The state is offering grants for hurricane safety improvements. :grouphug: for your grandmother.

Claire...welcome back! Long time, no see! How ya been?

Jen...welcome back!

Matt...fabulous pace!

CJ...congrats on your pace and to your daughter for riding without training wheels :moped:

Angie...wtg!!! :cheer2:  :cheer2:

Holly...what kind of watch do you have? I've been an Ironman fan for many years.

Kristi...wow...whatta pace!

Tiff...congrats on the 50lbs! :woohoo: Wow! I've got another couple to lose to hit 30, but they're stubborn. Or maybe it's the fact that I undo on the weekends all the good I've done during the week

On the Garmin question, I have a 301, but never use the heart rate monitor, so does that make it a 201? ;) Anyone think the 205/305 have enough upgrades to warrant a trade-in?

Hi everyone!

Sounds like you marathoners are doing well in your training efforts. :thumbsup2

Melissa - send some of that rain down here. We've had a 70% chance two days in a row yet nothing has come of it. Bummer! We need it!

Bill - I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother. :grouphug: to you and your family. :grouphug: Sending pixie dust your way to keep the hurricanes away!

Judy - I'm going to Dallas in a couple of weeks and I plan to stock up on some official running clothes. These old t-shirts and whatever I wear for shorts/capris just aren't cutting it! To be a runner you've got to dress like one, right?!!! :teeth:

Dave - to answer an earlier question you had for me - I teach part-time at Arkansas Tech University in the Computer Science department. I'm only teaching 9 hours but it sure feels like 15. :p

Pungodingy - congrats! :cheer2: I can't wait until I run my first 16 minute mile. :)

Keep up the good work, everyone. I enjoy reading about your efforts - gives me some hope that I can do it too. :goodvibes

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I've been away for a couple of days....I have some catching up to do :teeth: .

The Teams in Training Kickoff went great on Saturday -- very excited about it! Hopefully, I get out running with the group soon.....I have their schedule just have to make up my mind where I would like to meet them. :goodvibes

Saturday - I did 5 miles on the threadmill, I was supposed to do 8 but I felt some tenderness in my ankle area....I think Amy was having the same problem last week.

Sunday - Was a rest day.

Yesterday - I did 15 minutes on the stationary bike (hill setting) difficulty at 3 and then I found that wasn't enough, so I kicked it up a knotch :thumbsup2 , Also did some threadmill work - 3 miles, 12 min/mil, Pace 5.0.

Now, I have to catch up with everyone --- If I don't get to post again this morning.....Have a great day everyone! I will be sure to catch up later.

Thanks for the support everyone. I know we all have stonkers, but being the "type A" goal driven person that I am, when I say I'm going to do 10 miles at a 15 min pace & that doesnt happen its frustrating. Thanks for giving me a place to vent :goodvibes

Bill- So sorry about your grandmother. I hope the hurricane losses some strength for you guys. FL doesnt deserve to get hammered any more this year!

Mel-that's exactly why I havent lost much more. I do great during the week & blow it on the weekend. But I am loving this core program so far! We'll see how much the scale loves it on Thur.

Jenn-that's so funny :lmao: I go to bed not too far after my kids. Kids have a way of sucking the energy right out of you :rolleyes1

Matt-awesome job on the run!!! You will be flying thru DL!

Pungodingy- :cheer2: Congrats on the pace!!! Once you get ahead of the sweepers, the rest is gravy.

Kristi-Wow! You're a speed demon :moped:

CJ-thats so cute your DD rode with you. I wish DS5 would let us take his training wheels off. He tried once & refuses to do it again. Yet he will ride TOT! What's up with that?

Colleen-yep, I lost 40 before the 1/2 in Jan & 10-15 lbs since then. Hopefully have another 40 off by the 1/2 in Jan!

bekah-I dont think your shoes should hurt even if they aren't broken in. I would be afraid to do a LR in them. Maybe you should try a different kind. Good luck with your tri. I am determined to do one next year. DS8 did one this year & gloats that he had done one & I havent. I also found out the WDW has a kids tri the same weekend as the Tri in Sept. He would love to do that!! (now I'm not just using my races as excuses to go to WDW, but DS too :teeth: ) I would love to do the Danksin in May at WDW. I've heard thats a great event (except for that nasty lake water)

mel: i got an ironman watch. i really like it! i used it this morning. i was using a speedo one before (seeing as how i used to be a swimmer). but i bought a bunch of stuff for running last night at dick's. spent way too much money on underarmor. but if i wait for the cold weather stuff to go on sale they won't have my size anymore. :rotfl:

well got my 3 miles in today. was 26:59. not too bad. i was running with my sister. i'm getting spoiled.. all this week i'm going to have someone to run with then she's going to go back to school and it's back to running by myself. *sigh*

I did get new running shoes, and I have run in them two times, one 4 mile and one 5 mile run. Both times, my left foot has hurt above the arch near the end and after. This didn't happen with my old cheapo shoes. There is a return policy where I bought the shoes if they don't work - my question is - is this a bad thing? I don't like to cause problems and I hate to return them, but these were both short runs and I don't want to hurt myself. I am planning to just wear my old ones for the tri.

Bekah- Take the shoes back ASAP. Your shoes should not hurt. Explain the pain to the shoe guys and they should be able to help you find a pair better suited for your feet. Do not feel like a problem because you are returning the shoes. The store has a return policy for just this reason, and they have shoes returned all the time. You need to find the right shoes for you in order to stay injury free.

Great job everyone this board is very inspiring. I don't want to come back with a bad report so i keep up my pace . Did lr 22 miles ran it 3hrs 25 minutes. Averaged about 9:30 pace last real long run before marathon in oct. Hope to run under 4:00 hrs for marathon good luck to everyone and there training this week.Rich :thumbsup2

Good Morning Team: OK, I got up at 5:00am today, and was on the elliptical at the gym at 6:00am. MfM called for cross training today - so I did 40 min including a 5 min warm up and 5 min cool down. I stretched afterwards. Felt pretty good. I had a little tenderness in my right shin last night (maybe from the 30 min treadmill run) - so I did the ice massage thing for 20 min.

Bill- Sorry to hear about your grandmother. Here's wishing you all the best in a difficult time.

Mel/Chimera- Great job on your run. R8/W2 intervals are fantastic! :thumbsup2

Hi Jodi :wave2: sounds like your Team in Training workouts are off to a good start. How are you feeling about the fundraising? My hat's off to you for taking that on - it's such a great cause. Hope your ankle tenderness is nothing serious.

Tiff- vent to us all you want, but it sounds like your training is going well. Don't get too discouraged.

OK, I should do some work now.

Oh my. So much to catch up on.

I did 5 Saturday. Very hilly. OK pace. The humidity is killing me!

Because I was supposed ot have a late mtg last night adn because I missed my Wed/Thur b2b, I ran SUnday too. First b2b of the year. Still very humid. We did pretty well, though. Not half as bad as I remember!

OK, I need to getback to work. Can't believe how behind I am on the threadm though! :sad2:

:cheer2: Wow sounds like there are some pretty speedy WISHers out there!

Kristi-- great job on your 10K :cheer2:

Bill-- sorry to hear about your grandmother :grouphug:

Mel-- congrats on switching from "walker" to "runner"

TiffJ-- Kudos on the weight-loss. Here's :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: to get your the rest of the way!

I did a 6 mile walk last night. I have no clue of the pace but I'm guessing it was over 16:00. It was hard. I've had to pull way back on my activity level. But PT starts tomorrow so hopefully they can teach me something valuable.

Sunny

Just a quicky this morning because I have to run to a meeting. I did indeed get up early this morning and did 30 minutes walk/jog on the treadmill. After being on vacation last week and a slacker the 2 weeks prior, my workout was quite difficult this morning. WOW, I need to get my booty in gear.

I finally ordered my MFM book on Sunday. I can't find it locally, but Amazon Used Books had it for a great price! Now my "real" training is about to being.... gulp!!!

Good morning all. They are going to rebuild my computer today. They tell me it takes two hours. My estimate is that I should be back on-line in.....about three or four days. Ahh yes, let's not forget where I work.

In my drive-by post yesterday I forgot to mention that I did 45 min on the TM @ 3.8 yesterday. I was tired, and that was all I was getting out of me.

Today though I felt better and did my 10/5 intervals for 45 min. I promise I am going to try the tiny intervals. Probably Thursday.

I have registered for a 5K on Sunday Sept 24th (The Bigelow run that I get to meet Jodi at! YAY!) Then I was thinking of doing another 5K on Saturday Sept 30th. Is this stupid? Realize I'm not flat out running these races. I'm doing my intervals and it's more for the experience than winning. Do you think those two 5Ks are too close together? I'm doing 3.2 miles 4 times a week anyway, plus one LW.

Lily - Thank you, yes, the clothes make the runner. OK, maybe not really, but it sounded good, didn't it??

Kristi - WOW! Girl, you are MOVING! I have to get some of those gels! Maybe I'll have them at work! Oh, and I'm glad I make you laugh. Sometimes I even crack myself up!

Pungodingy - Whooo hooo! Oh ye of little faith. Just look at you now!

Bill, Mel and everyone else in Hurricane Alley.......Be safe.

Bill - PD for your grandmother. I'm so sorry.

Mel - Got my bracelets last night. They are way cool! Thank you so much!! I never thought you weren't a runner! (Pardon my grammar there, or lack there of.)

Escape - Yes! We need the clothes, the accessories, the shoes, everything! This IS a free sport, right????

Rich - You went 22 miles?? Shoot. I can't use smilies right now, but if I could I'd put the worship one right here! Holy cow! I'm very impressed!

Sunny - But Sunny, you DID it! You did six miles. That counts!

Where is Cam????

BTW, anyone notice my ticker?? I CAN'T WAIT!!!!

Hi Judy :wave2:. I don't think it's stupid at all to sign up for the 5Ks. It sounds like you are being smart about them and not trying to push it past your limits right now. I think running the races really breaks up some of the monotony of training, and being around all the people really boosts your spirits. Just take it easy and keep your eyes on the prize (that Donald medal) so you don't try to do too much and injure yourself. BTW - I'm jealous of your upcoming trip. I'm sooooo busy right now, and sure wish I were going to WDW.

Hi all! I just wanted to do a quick update. Thanks so much to everyone for the P and PD for our family. We got a call this morning that Bill's grandmother passed away. :sad1: We still aren't sure if he will be able to fly out for the funeral. The storm is supposed to come through tonight and tomorrow, so we'll see. Please continue to keep our family in your prayers, as well as everyone in the storm path. We'll check in again as soon as we can (as soon as the power is back). We leave next Tuesday for California, and I'm sure my house/dog sitter would appreciate a house with power... ;)

Take care and stay safe!!! :grouphug:

Hi, everyone! I haven't much time to post or train for that matter. DD is moved into college and called today after her first class to tell me she loved it. DS's performances at his performing arts camp were absolutely wonderful and he had the thrill of meeting Jason Alexander, whose son was another one of the principal in DS's musical. Mr. Alexander congratulated him on doing a great job so that was just amazing for a 13 year old, as you can imagine.

While we were up in the Catskills, we tried to get in a long training session Saturday but at 2 miles it started pouring, so we headed back to our bed & breakfast. It was about 60 degrees and rainy -- ICK! So, no 10 miler this weekend as the schedule called for. I am hoping to get in some significant treadmill time at the gym over the next few days and do the 10 miler this Sunday, then the lance armstrong 10K on the following Sunday, one week before the DL 1/2. Not quite the taper we were supposed to do, but I am hoping I can still pull off the pacing requirement for DL.

Interestingly, the 4 miles on Saturday started out really badly. I think the first mile was around 16:27 and the second was just under 16, but the last 2 I did a few short jogging intervals and ended up with average pace right at 15:00 which means the second 2 miles were in the mid 14:00s, which makes me feel a tiny bit better.

I am freaking out about the weight I have put on with all the eating away from home and no gym time. I am up 2.8 pounds since April, instead of down, and I am hellbent and determined to get those and more off before I have to lug my sorry fat butt 13.1 miles in just 19 days!

So happy to see some newbies and some MIA WISHers here! I'll never catch up with everyone this week, so I'll just WISH you all the best.

Mel -- Thank you so much for the WISH bracelets -- they are wonderful!

Sara -- Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness is passing along your DL/Anaheim materials that you don't need this month -- I am looking forward to sharing with other DL WISHers.

Sunny -- Take care of yourself, sweetie!

Miss you all and WISH you all happy training! Can't wait to start focusing on the Full. I am already freaking out about it, so I really need to throw myself into that training as soon as we are back from DL.
