Wk Of Aug 26 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Jackie/Bill—take care of yourselves. So sorry about the injuries and hope you can get back on track soon.

Renee—polishing floors not nearly as much fun as cycling?? I beg to differ! :)

Cam—great to hear from you. Are you sure Howard really was able to get himself ready for school? :) Glad to see you’re making it with all the things you have going on right now.

Mel—good to hear that the foot is holding up. And what’s wrong with wearing running shoes to work? Doesn’t everyone do that?? :confused3 Hope everything goes well for you tomorrow.

Jen—Hi! Glad you’re doing well. Sorry about DD’s bloody nose episode. That couldn’t be too fun.

Angie—wow, you’re falling apart! :) Hope you feel better soon, and it’s good to hear from you.

Training’s going pretty well for me; it’s just too stinkin’ hot, but I know it will be getting cooler soon. I have an 8 and 18 miler scheduled for this weekend, so I know I'll really be able to see how well (or not so well) I'm doing after those runs. Work’s been busy, and we’ve had some “episodes” with Hines lately causing him to have about 3 trips to the vet in the last 3 weeks. He’s fine now, and I’m sure Krista can elaborate, but it’s been interesting.

Keep up the great work everyone. I know I missed a ton of people, so HI to everyone else. Have a great hump day!

Steve

So now I am soaking her clothes because they are new school clothes and she thinks they are ruined. DD4 starts pre-school tomorrow. Did I mention that my babies are growing up????

Peroxide on the blood stains will do the trick!

My daughter has had a few bloody noses and I finally started doing that.

Works like a charm on the stains. Apply (watch it bubble!), throw in the wash, and dry--Good as new!

Morning team--total drive by from me as well. I'm headed to the gym in about 10 minutes for work and then a workout this afternoon. I'm in the last two weeks of training before taper and higdon's mid-week workouts are killing me. I just can't find the time for 2 5 milers and a 10 mile run during the week. Especially THIS week! Oh well, I'll get some miles logged, even though they might be less. I did get 5 miles (split up) done on Monday.

Angie--PD for your back!:wizard: Bobby is right, get yourself to the doctor!

Cam/Howard--great to hear from you!

Steve--Ugh on those back to back runs! Hope the heat breaks for you soon (crossing my fingers it gets cooler here as well--only low 90s today! )

Okay, gotta run! Catch up later!

now for the quickie...

Did my T-Tapp Instructional 1 Video today and 15 minutes on the bike. Unfortunately teh batteries died in the bike, so no tension adjustments could be made. :(

total 30 minutes x-training.

SWDave - Hey, where are you? Let me know when you are around and I will give you my review of Pop Century!

Welcome back Jen!

SWDave is on a family cruise this week. Lucky duck! I would love to hear your Pop Century review. I would love to stay there, but frankly, I am a little scared. I hear horror stories about the noisy buildings and pool, the flushing toilets and thin walls and worst of all the rock hard beds. Is any of this true? The beds were fine at POFQ and Coronado, but I wouldn't go back to Coronado. How would the PC beds compare?

Lisa, nice to see you posting again! Good luck on the Goofy training and everything else you have on your plate.

Mel, glad your foot is holding up for you!

Angie, PD on your back! I hope you can find the cause of the pain.

Oh, Steve, hope Hines is doing better! Wow, 8 and 18 this weekend. What plan are you using. Is Columbus the 3rd weekend in October?

Hi Stephanie, love the new picture of the kids! Yes, those midlength midweek runs are tough to get in. I only have 8 tomorrow, but I think I will try and get up at 5 tomorrow and just get it done, be exhausted for the rest of the day, but it will be done.

I had my first massage yesterday since I started MCM training and did I ever need it. I was one big ball of knots, especially in my back and gluts. I am going back tomorrow in hopes that I can continue with the LR's without pain.

Colleen

Pop Century - I have stayed there 3 or 4 times and have always had the best time! I could tell you all horror stories about the GF though. Pat stays at Pop alot also, and loves it. :thumbsup2

Good morning everyone! I'm so sorry to read about the ailments going around. pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: to everyone to get better and back on track!

I did get in a 3-mile run yesterday on the brook path in our town. It has been quite dry here lately so it's been nice to run outside. The IT band did not bother me. Maybe if I stay off the TM I can make this work. Along with stretching multiple times during the day and ice.

Lisa loves Pooh: dontcha hate it when the batteries die in the middle of a run? You can never plan for it. I hope you get in some more today--after putting in new batteries!

Steve: good luck on the 8 and 18 milers this weekend! Sorry to hear about the visits to the vet! Hope the furbaby is doing OK now!

Cam: yea! on getting to the gym last night! Once everyone gets into the swing of the new school year, things will quiet down for you and you'll get back on track.

angie: get thee to a doctor! NOW! I'm with your husband on this one--don't mess around with the back. 2 ear infections, colds, coughs, etc!? :scared1:

Mel: good luck with the endoscopy although it may be over by the time you read this. I, too, would opt for the meds.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning group! Happy Hump Day! :cool1: :cool1:

No training to report for yesterday. I took a complete rest day, since Pilates and my LR caught up to me. I was really tired yesterday, so a day of rest was needed! I am planning on 5 miles tonight.

So, instead of running I got a spa pedicure! It was awesome, and I got to see that my painful toenail isn't black yet! Yipee! I got my toe nails painted a funky pink color for VA beach this weekend. :thumbsup2

The family is looking forward to VA beach big time! So am I......even though it means 13.1 miles on Sunday! Nice way to celebrate Labor Day.

Angie: I hope your back feels better soon! Sending you PD!

Cam: You have to let us know how the class goes......I love a good class!:thumbsup2

I hope everyone else has a great Labor Day weekend!

Beth

Morning, WISHers!

Total :drive: post -- sorry; I've got lots of running around to do today!

Somehow that cold is being passed around this virtual community (I've heard of computer viruses, but really!) and I'm now hosting it. I debated about taking the day off, but got out and did 4 (hilly) miles. I almost ditched the last half mile as I passed my car but sucked it up and finished. Hopefully working out will NOT keep this cold lingering around any longer than it would have!

Hope all the injuries are healing and that everyone has a great training (or rest) day today!
Renee

I have stayed at POP once and booked it again for Oct and Jan. I have actually stayed at all the values and have never had any problems and we where there once with the school bands this past May and you wouldn't have even known they where there, except the day they all checked out!!!!!

Sorry everyone not much posting time this week. Hope everyone is doing great with their training.

I got my 5K in last night, it was tough for some reason but I gotter done. 7K on for tonight.

Have a awesome day!!!

Kim

Hi guys. Sorry I haven't kept up the last week - this thread almost moves too fast for me. I hope everyone is doing well and no injuries or sicknesses! :goodvibes

I'm having a time figuring out my new Garmin. I'm definitely not gadget inclined it appears. :lmao:

My first run with it I messed it all up, wasn't stopping the timer and resetting it correctly and I had it keep going when I went inside! :sad2:

Today I stopped and reset the timer after my warmup, then started it again for my run, stopped and reset it again for my cooldown. When I came in I just deleted my warmup and cooldown laps. I'm sure there is a better way than what I'm doing, but it appeared to work. I just like to walk 5 minutes before and after so I wanted to use the timer for that, but not count it towards my run.

It was closer to my Nike+ this second time. The Garmin had me at 3.01, 10:50 pace, the Nike+ at 3.18, 10:22 pace - course I didn't stop them at the same exact second.

My best pace on the Garmin this morning was 9:20. I can live with that!

How is the weather going with everyone? It rained on me today - felt good and no 100 degree temps.

DH had some tests done yesterday. They think he has a stomach ulcer. I really hope he gets out soon to run for RFTT. I'm getting a tad worried as the date gets closer...

I completed something today and I had to come share it here with those that supported me from Day 1 :goodvibes

My MBA is complete :cool1:  :cool1:  :cool1:

I feel extremely blessed to have family that has supported me through all this. I know many of you know exactly how much it requires ;) :goodvibes

Thank you one and all for the encouragement and support :grouphug:

Colleen

Let me first say that I have stayed at BC(2x), AKL(2x), BW, Poly, WL, FW, all of the moderates, and ASMu, in addition to Pop. Honestly, I love Pop. Never had a problem with hearing flushing toilets (just close the bathroom door when we go to bed) and I guess we've lucked out because DH and I were there with Pop Warner and hardly ever saw them. I think a lot depends on who your neighbors are. I thought WL and BW were much noisier myself. I love Pop's over-the-top icons, and the lake setting is beautiful. I've always gotten a lakeview - the only place in WDW where you get a water view for a standard price! The busses have always been timely, and while the food court isn't my favorite, it is certainly adequate. The rooms are a little smaller than a moderate, and the beds are only full-size. I don't remember them as being particularly hard or uncomfortable. I imagine summertime could be really crowded, but I usually go during less busy times and have had no problems. I highly recommend Pop!!

Colleen and anyone else... POP CENTURY Review. Overall it was OK. The smaller rooms were not a problem, the beds were OK, The flushing toilets were no worse than any other hotel. We didn't have a pool view, which we were glad about since I can imagine that would get loud. We did however have maintenance using a weed wacker at 7am several mornings outside our room. They happened to be the mornings we were sleeping in. We did have rude neighbors, but you can't blame the hotel for that. I am not sure I would ever stay at this resort during the summer or high volume times. Overall the other guests were quite rude and manners were not present at all. Again, not the resorts fault, but it did make things not so fun at times.

The food court had a good selection, however they were very slow and messy. Like I said, the guests staying while were we there were lacking manners, and the food court was completely filthy every day we went there. We always took our stuff back to our room or somewhere else because of this. Also, the busses were incredibly slow. We waited close to 45 minutes twice for a MK bus. I read on the some other boards that there were a lot of complaints about Pop last week, so I think something was just not right.

Over all I really liked the theming and so did my kids. It was a nice resort and I may stay there again, I will just have to be more choosey about the time of the year I stay there.

Jackie/Bill—take care of yourselves. So sorry about the injuries and hope you can get back on track soon.

Steve--Coming from a Steelers fan, you don't know how much that means to me and inspires me to get back at it. Wait a minute though, if Jerome Bettis can lie about a fake injury, maybe ... no never mind, I know a WISH teammate would be sincere.

Steve, I'll also share with you my brush with fame as to the Pittsburgh Steelers. I wrestled at Boston College while Art Rooney (don't recall if it was III or IV) was also on the team.

We are relatively new at Disney experience compared to most of you. But here is my take.

Our first time was at the Yacht Club. This was the best of all, except the restraunts in the hotel were extremely expensive. This was before we discovered Disney Dinning Plan. But everything was first rate.

Our second was the Boardwalk. We liked this the least. The room was nothing special and we decided after that experience we would try the moderate resorts. There was nothing really bad except that the Buss for the half didn't show up till 4 am and Erica and a girlfriend had to stand in the freezing cold for almost an hour before the buss finally came.

The Coranado was next. There was only one problem but it was a bigone and we discovered it wasn't just the Coronado that had the problem. Our roomkey park pass card stopped working several times. The first we had just ate a hundred dollar dinner and were told our card had no more DDP meals on it. This was our first night of a ten day stay. Three times my key had to be remade and twice for Erica. Once she couldn't get into Epcot and had to be issued a paper pass. I was a bit pissy since I had spent like $3500 for this trip. The Pepper Market at the Coranado was a waste. But the Myan grill was first rate. The room was comfortable and the grounds were nice.

We are staying at the Swan this time since we like the convience of staying in the Epcot area but not enough to warrent the $350+ a night rate for the Boardwalk or more for the other resorts. I'm hoping the Swan will be a pleasent experience.

Minnie, great news on the MBA.

I did my regular 4 mile walk this morning. I hope the heat breaks soon so I can get back to speed work.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Hey everyone! This week is shaping up to be lesser mileage so far, but I'm getting in what I can. Monday I ran 2.75 miles to the bike shop (to pick up my repair), and then walked the same way back, which took me more than twice as long as it did to get there! I sure wouldn't be beating the sweepers if I had to walk with a bicycle in tow, that's for sure. Last night I got in a 3 miler on the TM mostly at 5.7 mph, with a couple random 1-minute spurts of 7.2 mph thrown in for "fun". Also did 25 min on the elliptical, and 10 minutes on the stepmill. Weirdest thing...it took me less time (10 min) to rack up '1 mile' on the stairs than it usually takes me to run that distance. Are vertical miles shorter or something?

Sadly, I pulled an '86-year-old-grandmother' move last night and slipped in the shower. Nothing dire, but I'm definitely going to be sporting a bruise on my other hip to match the one left over from my bike spill a couple of weeks ago. I swear, I'm not feeble, just clumsy from time to time...

Stephanie-Good luck with working in training during the business!
Martha, great job on the run! I sympathize with your IT Band issues - hope they keep improving!
Beth, congrats on the rest day! I know that, personally, that's one of the hardest things for me to do - to actually make myself take a day off and recharge. The pedi sounds fun, too!
Renee, wow, I'm impressed at you running with the cold! The dedication is awesome, but make sure you take it easy if you need to, y'hear?
Kim, great job sticking with the training! Toughness builds character, right? :)
Shan, good luck figuring out the Garmin.
Minnie, congrats on your degree!!! :woohoo:

Thanks to everyone for the Pop reviews, too...still trying to figure out where I'm going to stay for the marathon, and the value resorts are the only ones even remotely within my tentative price range. Good to hear they're not lousy!

Keep on the great work everyone!

Last night I stopped at the grocery store and as I was walking away from the register this lady with a cart got in front of me. No problem, I followed her for a second towards the door, when a voice behind me said "Now don't lift anything. Wait right here with the cart and I'll get the car." So I turned around with a big smile and said "OK, thanks!" It was Robert Vaughn! I recognized him right away, but naturally couldn't think of his name. He laughed and put his hand on my shoulder and said "OK, you wait too, and I'll go get your car." And we laughed and went out merry ways.

COOL! :cool2:

For those of you too young to realize who he is....

Moon don't feel bad about the bruise. I had Erica's bike reconditioned so she could ride it and she rammed a mailbox. Yep that left a mark. She said she tried to avoid it but it kept after her.

Dave:hippie:
