Wk Of Aug 26 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Good morning Team!!! Well last night I actually trained. I was so proud of myself. I managed 35 minutes of Run/Walk at a slower pace than normal. But it was nice to get out. My PF got all crabby at me tho. My foot felt great all during vacation and now I do one little run and pooooffff... it gets mad at me. I wish I could tell it to get over it!!!

Jackie - Oh I am so sorry to hear that about your ankle. I hope you heal quickly!!!

Minnie/Suzy - You know this team really is great. Congrats on your new degree!!!!

Cam - I noticed you did a walk/jog DVD. Did you get the Leslie Sansome ones? I opened my box finally last night and was shocked that they are all DVD's that I didn't have. How exciting for me to have these as back up cross training workouts. I can't wait to try them.

I have to run but will try to pop in later! Have a great day all.

What a difference a few days of training takes!

Is it mean that I was secretly laughing at my husband as he embarked on his first run about 4 days late?

"Are you SURE we are supposed to run this much? 3/2's....for THIRTY-five minutes??"

yes that is what you are supposed to do

pant-pant "It can't be--that's impossible! I thought it started with 2/1's!" pant-pant "This is hard. This can't be right!"

yes it is honey--you can verify it when you are done *snicker* *snicker*:lmao:

And then the strides...I think they put him over the edge.:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

In the meantime--my run today was.....GREAT!!!!

I was a good wife--I told him my first day sucked, too.

Then he asks me--"It shouldn't be so hard--it wasn't this hard last time." Ummm...honey? That was a half--this a full.:confused3

In my defense--I told him that he should be working out over the summer--which he didn't do. His response..I did a half, a full won't be any trouble! I tried to tell him.

KARMA IS SWEET!!!!!:rotfl2: :rotfl: :cool1:

bad! bad! wifey!:rolleyes1

Wonder if he realizes he will have to actually work this time?

For me--35 minutes of 3/2's....2.88 TM miles (speedwork day) 12.15 pace
post-run strides (form sprints): 6.3, 6.5, 6.7, 7.0 for 30 second bursts followed by 1:00 recovery.

On the docket today:

A new air conditioner!!!!!!!!!! Say adios to the budget busting, power bill draining dinosaur!

Cleaning service: HIRED!!!! Now I just have to make enough pennies to pay for it. They start Sep 12.

Costumes for the book ball tomorrow night for my kids! Constructing Daphne's dress this morning (sleeveless--but close enough facsimile!) and have to work it making Zoe's (sesame street) tutu.

Soccer practice with the kids later today and heading to a hotel tonight since we are without A/C until tomorrow.

Greetings racing team -

Where's Matt? Matt, last night I had a dream that you were at my grandmother's house. :upsidedow I can't even BEGIN to explain THAT one!

30 min on the TM this morning at 3.8 @ 1%. At first it felt really hard and I thought I was just tired, until I realized Charlie left it on 3%.

OK, folks....today it's one month until the Bigelow 5K, and two months until ToT. Enough "up ramping". Time for Judith Anne to get serious. :thumbsup2

Since July and August were pretty much a bust, starting with the first of September I am back on my regularly scheduled training program. What I have done to combine Half and ToT training is take the MFM Half plan from where the L/R is 8 miles (which will be the ToT) and back it up from there. Am I making any sense here? So then the ToT would be a regularly schedule 8 miles L/R. I fully intend to do what I did last training for the Half and not miss any training days. I NEED that both physically and mentally. My only goal for the Half is to finish ahead of what I did this year. So, there you have it. ;)

Christa - Don't worry, you are probably just too young to have grown up watching The Man from U.N.C.L.E. ;)

Jackie - Yea, I hob nob at the grocery store with movie stars all the time, don't cha know. :lmao: Ohh, I'm so sorry you are going to miss your 5K. How frustrating. But let's remember the big picture and focus on getting you well for January.

Kristi - OUCH! Man, I hate shots. How are you feeling today? We were grocery shopping (no star sightings) and you know how they always have some background music playing, well you're BF Johnny came on and I got a big smile thinking of you and how strange but wonderful it is the way we all met and all the things we do, and how everyone here is a part of my every day. And how you always give me such a hard time and you're so much fun. OK, enough mushy stuff. Now, will you start training please. You need to come in right in front of me at the ToT.

Jeanne - You used to live in NY? How long ago? :cool2:

Craig - While I am very happy for all your new assignments, we really really need you around here towards the end of the year. I know I'm being totally selfish about this, but I kept a small notebook of the millions of things I had to remember last year and so many times, as we got closer to the race, you posted such great advice and support and motivation, that I printed a lot of your posts and put them in my notebook. I have the post you wrote about standing under the klieg lights right on the first page! OK, yes, work if you must, but remember the WISH team NEEDS you! :grouphug:

Cam - I don't think Kristi can do this :drinking1 either. Sorry we missed you last night. I'll call you later today, if that's OK. And just WHERE in NY are you guys going to be, missy!?!?! :rolleyes1

Krista & Stephen - Oh no! I must have missed the Hines has an issue post. I hope so much he is OK. :wizard: Let us know. paw:

OK Bill - I'll try to bump shopping carts with a star from your generation. ;)

Jen - I just realized I'm not going to be able to sit with you this race morning. Shoot. You were great for moral support. OK maybe I'll just call you at 3:30am on race morning. :lmao:

Lisa - Bad bad wifey but great great story! :rotfl2:

Anne -

Jen and Lisa -- Great job on the training!

Lisa-- your description was priceless! Congrats on the new AC and I'm glad you don't have to suffer through an AC-less night tonight!

Meghan -- I have been suffering hip issues for about 2 weeks now, so you really have my sympathy. I am ignoring mine. :rolleyes1 I've never been to a chiro; I may have to consider that at some point.

Cam - I noticed you did a walk/jog DVD. Did you get the Leslie Sansome ones? I opened my box finally last night and was shocked that they are all DVD's that I didn't have. How exciting for me to have these as back up cross training workouts. I can't wait to try them.

Jen -- I didnt' get in on that great 12 pack deal. But I recently bought a 3 pack that has a power mile, a kick/jog, and a walk/jog, all of which are still interesting to me. The walk/jog I did last night is 33 minutes with the warm-up, cool-down and post-workout (brief) stretch. And Leslie says at the end that if you did that pace of walking and jogging outside, you'd cover 2.5 miles, so it was pretty brisk. I figure if I can do that kind of DVD and work up a sweat (under the ceiling fan, no less), it is a decent workout. And it kept me out of the kitchen!! :rolleyes1

Now, I have to figure out when in the world to fit in a LW this weekend with all the running around, travelling, and DDs 19th birthday  and getting her back to campus!

Cam - I don't think Kristi can do this :drinking1 either. Sorry we missed you last night. I'll call you later today, if that's OK. And just WHERE in NY are you guys going to be, missy!?!?! :rolleyes1

Judy -- we were posting at the same time. :) We'll be in Staten Island for a christening Saturday and then to Jackson, NJ (I hope to squeeze in some outlet browsing) on our way to Toms River NJ for overnight Saturday and church & a barbecue there Sunday, then back to DE Sunday night, then to Lancaster PA outlets (I hope) Monday am and then Jenn's birthday celebration and then back to her campus. Maybe I can count it all as XT? ;)

Still nursing the back, so nothing new to report. In the spirit of group training, however, I thought I would pass this one along that I just came across:

Three guys were out for their first training walk together to prepare for WDW marathon weekend.

The first guy says: "Man, is it windy?"

The second guy responds: "No, I am sure its Thursday."

The third guy replies: "Me too. Let's stop and get a beer."

Cam and Judy

Remember you can always reach me through e-mail. I do sort of see my role here as the provider of specific information and advice to specific questions, so feel free to contact me that way. You can also use Martha as a conduit. Lord knows she gets enough advice, both solicited or not, it's a wonder she hasn't punched me yet.

Good luck to averyone as summer begins to turn to cooler autumn training. Well at least it will be autumn here in a week or so. Our Florida friends have, what, 12 more weeks of summer?

Craig

Morning all!!

PlutoPDX-- :welcome:

Sassparillo-- :welcome:

Suzy-- Congratulations!!! That's a huge accomplishment!! :thumbsup2

It's been a BIG LTO time around here lately.... when last we left off...

I was still deciding on what to do about Toronto Waterfront at the end of September. I have decided, after much hemming and hawking, to defer to next year. I'm just not where I need to be right now to attempt it, which is entirely my own lack of training. So it's onward and forward to Goofy!! I will most likely still be making the trip to Toronto that weekend, so I will have to get down to the race course and scream team for our halfers! :thumbsup2

My training has suffered big time lately. I went through a good long week of feeling sorry for myself (life issues....) and didn't really get a lot done. But I'm happy to say that I feel like I'm back in the saddle this week. I have decided to use Hal Higdon's Intermediate I plan for Goofy training, since it basically includes all the back-to-back runs already. Since that doesn't start for another two weeks (boo), I'm getting ready by doing the first two weeks of MFM right now. I have managed to get the interval runs in and... it didn't kill me! :cool1:

I'm off to Ft. Lauderdale in a couple of weeks to scout the area out. I have been offered a job down that way and, having never been there before, need to find out if it's somewhere I would like to live. LOTS of variables going on right now, but I figure it's worth a look. Any things I should really see or do in the Lauderdale while I'm there??

Thanks for all the positive Pop reviews as well. I just switched my reservation to there from the Yacht Club for Marathon weekend, which will allow me to add some extra days. Since it's just me, I think it will work out just fine.

Ok, I think that's about all for now...
Happy training all!
Kevin :earsboy:

Cam - Holey moley, That's a lot of running around this weekend. Make sure you find some time to rest in between all of that!!!!! Oh, and did I mention that I lost 2 of the 3 vacation pounds already. I really need to get back on the crunch/push up challenge. I always have you in the back on my mind to keep me going on those!!!

Judy - Oh Shoot!!! I won't be at the 1/2. I am not sure I was that much support since I was SOOOO nervous. I had no clue what was going on, I just kept a smile on my face and went with the flow. If you want, I can leave my cell phone on and you can call me before the race... preferably closer to 5am instead of 3am tho!!! :lmao: I hope I find you on the course somewhere during the full. I may need a High Five!!!

You know, I am just full of chit chat today. Maybe because I have been so busy with LTO lately. So anyhooo.. I had 4 inches chopped off my hair on Tuesday. No more pony tails every day. And when I ran last night it was nice not to have a hot pile of hair on my neck!!! It is quite a drastic change for me, but with all the crud in my personal life I just needed a change. DH couldn't believe I did it!

I have to say that I am glad that my marathon training will soon be winding down. I am tired! I got 5 miles in last night, but I felt like I was dragging the first 2 miles.....better after they were done.

Kevin: I am sorry I won't get to see you in Toronto, but totally get feeling that you are not ready. I don't know if I am ready, but onward and upward! I got my 18 miler in, and will just have my 20 miler yet to go next weekend.

Beth

Your "YARC" saying of the day:

A friend will bail you out of jail. A real friend will be sitting next to you saying, "Wow that was fun".

Have an awesome day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Good morning gang! Thanks for all the well wishes - I managed to *not* slip in the tub last night, so I figure things are improving

Yesterday evening I got in ~7.1 mi, averaging somewhere 11-12 min/mi. My hips have been bothering me all week so I wanted to take it easy, even though they really only hurt when I'm walking - running doesn't really seem to have the same aches that walking does. Honestly I'm surprised at my times, because I felt like I was going *much* slower, and also had to burn 2-3 minutes waiting for stoplights to change. Around mile 5.5 my stomach started feeling kinda icky, so I had to take a few longer walk breaks after that. I was able to finish my planned run, though, and avoided getting sick, so yay for that!

Unfortunately, I think I'm either developing an allergy to the metal in my iPod shuffle, or else it's just a regular friction thing, but I'm starting to get a irritating rash right in the one spot where I clip it to my waistband. Man, so annoying. Just means I have to figure out somewhere else to clip it, I guess...

Happy Thursday, guys!

Craig

If I remember right, we will have about 16 more weeks of summer, 1-2 weeks of fall, then 1-2 weeks of winter, then maybe 2 weeks of spring if lucky, then back to summer.:lmao:

Judy - How are things with your step-son. I don't remember any updates recently and want to make sure you haven't killed him yet. ;)

Bill

Judy: I lived in Manhattan until I was 31 (1984). Once the kids arrived, we moved to the near burbs but hubby continued to work in the city so we always had that connection. NYC has tons of celebrities, but we always pretend not to notice them (it's that ego thing). I remember when we used to jog around the Central Park reservoir and Jackie O would always be there....running against the flow. I guess she didn't want anyone coming up behind her!

:ssst:

Actually, we shipped him off to college on the 17th. So far, so good.

Jeanne - Where in the suburbs? (OK now am I asking too many questions??? :lmao: ) We have lots of celebs here too. When I went to the hospital in Sept last year I was sitting next to Martha stewart who spent the entire time on the phone explaining to people why she had left her estate while still wearing the "ankle bracelet". Rob Thomas lives right near us, as does one of the Kenendy's who's name I can't remember. We used to ride on Joseph Mankiewicz's estate and we used to be able to ride thru Ralph Lauren's place but he closed off the trails. Glenn Close lives nearby too, but, well, she's not very nice. And Micheal Bloomberg's summer home is here. Matter of fact he ran a 5K with us in May. Richard Gere lives here also. (Man, he's getting old! Good thing we arent!) Anyway, it used to be NoWheresVille here until this area was "discovered". Which is almost too bad, because no it's all overpriced and getting too crowded.

Meghan -- I have been suffering hip issues for about 2 weeks now, so you really have my sympathy. I am ignoring mine. I've never been to a chiro; I may have to consider that at some point.

Cam-learn from my mistake and DON'T ignore it. I know that you also have SI joint issues, and your soreness might be related. I started feeling tight and sore in early July. Ignored it and kept running intervals. Eventually my hip flexor started screaming and then my whole upper leg just hurt all of the time. It took weeks just to get to the point where only my hip adductor and flexor hurt. Now, I am back to the tight, but not painful stage. My leg muscles have lost a lot of strength and I feel like I am starting over. I started going to PT just before the CDC and electric stim/stretching got me to the point where I was able to walk the CDC without pain-but no running allowed. I started going to the chiro last week and three visits have produced more results than 2 weeks of PT. (I suspect the combination of the two are what has really helped.) My left illium is rotated and that pulls my left leg up (also causes problems with my SI joint on that side). This causes the hip muscles to go crazy trying to compensate and that is causing my pain/stiffness. The chiro just pops it back into place and I'm on my way. You should at least see someone if the soreness persists for a few more days.

OK-lecture over. Back to your regularly scheduled thread...

I don't think Kristi can do this :drinking1 either.
Hey - my left arm is fine! :lmao: :drinking1
Seriously, I felt better today at work. Arm still really sore, but more tolerable. On the drive home, I started feeling lightheaded. I napped for over an hour before Chad went to work. I got up and now I feel all woozy again. The kicker is that I am supposed to go get 3 allergy shots today - in the same arm! (I have a circulation problem with the left & cannot have needles in that arm) I have to call them & see if I can even get the shots with my arm like this.

Judy - for the record.... I really don't do any of :dance3: I had to warn my friend Greta before we went to Justin Timberlake - I don't dance. I love a Billy Joel or Elton John show since you can sit the whole time! :rotfl:
And hearing Goo in random places like a grocery store is technically called "random goo." At least by those much more wacky than me on the fan club boards. :rotfl2:

Cam - how the heck do you do all you do? I am dead serious. I can barely find clean clothes in my house lately with both of us working! You are one amazing woman, that's for sure!

Sunny - oh, where art thou?????

The computer eat my post. :headache: Now to try to remember what I wanted to say.

Cam--- I just got that Walk/Jog DVD with that 12 pack I ordered. I used it Tuesday and it gives you quite the workout. The Lancaster outlets are only 30 minutes from my house, sometime when you have more time we should get together.

Jen--- There was only 1 DVD that I already had in that 12 pack so I was very pleased with the variety that I got. Should be a nice change for XT.

Beth--- Good luck with your 1/2 marathon this weekend. Have fun. I thought you were working today so feel bad that I didn't wish you good luck yesterday when I left work.

Training for me this week as been

Monday 3 miles
Tues WATP walk/jog video
Wed 4 miles on TM
Hoping for pump class and another 3 miles.

I know I had more but can't seem to remember what else I wanted to say. Guess it wasn't that important.

Nancy

Kristi - I concur. Cam IS amazing. :goodvibes Sometimes just reading her posts wear me out.

Did I say you had to dance? I don't remember. But, well, I hardly remember what I did an hour ago so no suprise there. Sorry about the needles. Holy cow! More today!?? :scared:

Did you ever hear back from WDW about a team of volunteers? I know this is the wrong post but I got a email from them asking if I wanted to be a Team Leader. I can't meet all the requirements so I have to tell them thanks but no thanks.

Thanks for the advice,Meghan! I really have to get back in the habit of stretching my hamstrings before I walk or jog and I think that will get me back to a pain-free existence. Stretching is definitely KEY for me. Thank you so much for caring, and I am so glad you have found someone to help and that the results have been so great!

Cam - how the heck do you do all you do? I am dead serious. I can barely find clean clothes in my house lately with both of us working! You are one amazing woman, that's for sure!

Kristi -- here's the secret to my ability to function -- are you ready? Howard does all the laundry! :cloud9:  Back when I was in college and he was visiting me, we witnessed a couple having a spat apparently over laundry and the guy said to the girl "IF you really loved me, you'd do my laundry!" Well, wonder of wonders and all prayers be answered! Howard thought that that was the way to show his love! :lmao: Shhhhhhhh . . . .. don't tell him that isn't the case! Actually, in all fairness, we made a deal when I was in law school -- he did the laundry and I did the clutter/bills. The fact is that no one is running around without tidy whities if I don't deal with the clutter or a the bills aren't paid 7-10 days before they're due! :rotfl2:

Yes, I am with you, I am definitely missing Sunny and Anne and Melissa and Sara and Colleen and so many of our WISH teammates. I definitely understand how life/kids/work, etc. take over! :headache: :guilty: :sad1: :scared:
