Wk of Aug 13--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

I did 3.4 miles last night. It was hot and humid, but I had to get my steps in. I hit the snooze buttons too many times and missed the gym in the morning so I had to hit the open road last night. I have returned to walk3/run2 for my DL training. In order to go the distance, I will need to follow this plan since I have not been able to train the way I hoped. Plus, I have put on 7 pounds since January, which does not help my speed one bit.

Good luck to Howard on school and work. You can do it! :thumbsup2

Cam- I can't imagine all of the emotions involved with sending your DD off to college. My twins start kindergarten tomorrow and even though they are the middle children I am still all teary eyed.

Pat- You and DH look fantastic! Love the pictures, and I also have serious medal envy. Is DH doing the DL 1/2?

Sunny- I am so glad that your appointment is almost here. We will anxiously be waiting to hear about the visit.

Great job everyone on your training. PD to all those with injuries. :wizard:

If you are looking for me in the morning, I will be the mom sobbing at the bus stop as her babies head off to kindergarten for the first time.

I did 2.93 miles in 48 min last night. It was supposed to be a cross training night but I took Monday off after walking both days of the weekend. Today is supposed to be a rest day, but I am thinking of a doing a 12-15 mile bike if the weather permits.

Everyone have a great training day.

Holly, you've got it...have mask, fins and snorkel will travel! Enjoy the underwater view. It is fun. Take your time to look at all the little things.

haha exactly! i'm trying to get a case thing for my camera but the olympus site didn't have one for mine and the ones like mine that i could have 'cheated' with only went to 3m... not deep enough! :rotfl2: but i think my sister might have ordered one...

i'll have to wait until after work to get my run in. i woke up at about 630 and had a horrible stomach ache so i went back to sleep for another hour. blah. i'm sad, it's so nice out right now it would be perfect! and i would so go now but i already showered and by the time i finished my run i would have to go to work in my running clothes and smelling bad :lmao:
so it's this afternoon for me!

Heather -- Just wanted you to know I am thinking of you this morning as you put the twins on the bus.

Hi, everyone! Nothing to report training-wise and probably not until Saturday. It is a gorgeous day though, and it speaks volumes to me that my first thought was that I'd rather be wogging than doing anything else this morning. Oh well.

Good morning everyone! I'm glad that we're getting closer to training, that means that everyone will be around here more. :) The run last night was okay, not fantasic, but I got my steps in, which is all that matters. I did 4 miles 4/1--running 10:31 and walking 12:45, the last 1/2 mile I ran at 10:20 and then 10:10, finishing in 43:43. My legs felt okay during the run, my calf was a little tight, but as soon as I stopped running, the tightness went away, so I guess that's a good thing. Tonight is an off night, I have choir practice at church and won't be home until 9:ish, plus I don't want to run back to back runs until I have to (next week :scared1: :faint: ). I think I'm running 4 on Thursday and then my 5K on Friday, I'm taking the weekend off as this is my last free weekend until January 13, 2007. (Rereading that makes me sick to my stomach)

Cam and Howard-- :wizard: for this Friday! I still remember what it was like when my parents dropped me off for college, I sobbed and sobbed--it was awful! But going to college 3 hours away from home was the best thing for me, it gave me a chance to grow up a little bit.

Kathy--I'm so glad you are posting regularly again. How is Erin doing on the CP program? Isn't she about finished?

Heather-- :wizard: :wizard: for today!

Sunny--Have you heard anything from the doctor yet? You're in my prayers.

Lily--Wow! Awesome time! I'm so glad you're doing Disney in January, I don't think it would be the same without you.

Monica--I'm so jealous of where you live. I've been to CO once, only for a weekend and I'm dying to go back. I'd love to go up to Pike's Peak (we went in Jan and the roads were closed) someday. It was so funny flying into Denver because I was expecting huge mountains and it was flat. My first thought was from the movie "Dumb and Dumber" when Harry said, "That John Denver's full of ....." :teeth:

Judy--You definitely are speedy! I can't believe the progress you have made in 8 short months, I think you need to go back and read through all of your posts--you will be amazed!

MelR--Good luck on your Half Ironman. I wish I could be more like you! You are an amazing athlete.

Kevin--I think life is about to get very hectic for you. :wizard: that you make it through the next 20 weeks!

I better get off and start my day. Yippee. ;) I'm sure I'll be back later in the day.

Morning WISH Team!

It's Wednesday! Don't forget chat tonight at 8:30 EST (room 2 if you can make it. I've posted a direct link on the this forum.

Heather, I am thinking of you. I know it wil be a long day for you, not the twins though. They will be enjoying everything!

Is that 8:30pm east coast time? I'm guessing it is, so that will be 6:30 my time....I'll try to remember. DH and I are going on another hike today, I'm trying to find a close one in my Summit Hiker book....we have about 6 weeks (if that) til the snow starts flying, so we're trying to spend as much time hiking as possible.

Hope to see you tonight...should be fun to have a live chat! popcorn:: :surfweb: :dance3:

Good morning everyone. :wave2:

Today was a rest day, which turned out to be a good thing since I woke up with a wicked headache. :headache: I'm sure it had nothing to do with last night as DH was trying to read in bed, I was playing with my Garmin, figuring out how to set the intervals. Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Poor guy, the things he puts up with! :upsidedow

BTW, the 26th of this month is the one year anniversary of my ACL replacement surgery. :thumbsup2 Which means I have my final final appointment with Dr Hunka-Hunka-Burning Love next Tuesday. :lovestruc

Dana - Thanks for asking about Mist. I spoke to the Director of the sanctuary and apparently there is some sort of sensational murder trial going on in that tiny town now, so our case has been put off. She thinks it won't even get to the judge for at least a year. In a way that's good news, but in a way it's not. So for now, things are status quo. :goodvibes

Cam - I was thinking of you this morning. I'm really sorry we won't be able to meet as you pass thru NY, but I really REALLY look forward to meeting you in January. :yay: I hope all goes well on Friday. I'm sure it will be a hard day but also a day for you and Howard to very proud of the wonderful job you did. :wizard:

Holly - You didn't by any chance go to Dutch Springs, did you? We were there about three weeks ago. :wave2: I have to say I am AMAZED at how much diving "Stuff" DH has!

Monte - OMG that's so far up! :scared1: Now THATS cross training!

Howard - I'm exhausted just reading what you are about to do. :faint: Guess you'll be getting up about the same time I am now. :teeth:

Lily - Oh thank you. If only I could keep that pace up for a couple of hours I'd be in business! But I'll keep plugging away at my training. And trying to loose some excess cargo. I'm going to try to remember to join the chat tonight. I'm not sure what our evening plans are.

Heather - How did it go this morning at the bus stop???? :teacher:

Krista - Oh thank you. That you guys think I'm speedy is quite the compliment.

Sunny - Did you have your appointment?? :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Hey all! Taking a break before I start my client notes from counseling..UGG! Love the counseling..hate the paperwork!
Ran 3 miles in 24 something minutes. :cool1: Very proud of myself. I think DDs starting to school made me go that fast...I am lost w/out them..So Heather, I feel your pain! Said a little prayer for you! Mine, however, are in 1st and 3rd.

Melissa - Good luck on your 1/2 ironman! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Judy - GIRL! You are getting fast...I am so proud of you! You will show those stupid teen at the shoe store that you are a runner! :cheer2:

Howard - :wizard: for you starting school! This is when you will really need your runs to keep you from going  ! ;)

Great job to everyone...we are really doing good training!.....OOOOH! I think I have talked Bree into going with me to the Marathon in October. :cool1:

I'm almost ashamed to post my training from yesterday! I went out in the evening to mt. bike (single track trail in the woods) Can you see where this is going?? Let's see... Girl in the woods (basically too dark to see anything), on a PINK bike with a big head lamp on her head. I was so SCARED!!!!! I don't know why I didn't consider the consequences b/4 I headed out, but... Anyway, I prayed the whole way around. I did lost one time but for a night mt. bike ride, I was hauling tail! I got back safely (but I did feel ashamed of myself for such poor decision making) I made sure and said a prayer of thanksgiving too!

Sunny - I've been thinking about you today.

Christa - How far along is bree? Could she do WDW? Maybe you can talk her into that (that's really bad isn't it-see, I'm terrible at consequences)

Hi Heather, I am another Houston mom who sent her baby to kindergarten today. She's a walker though and it was much easier than putting her on a bus! I was lost today with no kids at home, so I did a 3.5 mile run/walk on the treadmill in the middle of the afternoon. That way, when I walked to the school to pick her up, it didn't matter that I was sweating already. ;) Gosh today it is hot in Houston!!

Question for all the veterans....I am running the 1/2 in January, but I am not really sure what I should be doing right now. What exactly should I be doing to "train to train" at this point? Do I focus on speed, distance, or both? Right now my longest run has been 4 miles, but mostly I do 2-3 milers 3 to 4 times a week. Is this okay for now, or should I be doing more?

Thanks!
Tracey

I think that what you are doing now would be fine although you might want to start increasing your distance a little maybe once a week. During the "train to train" time, you want to get a base so when you start training your body isn't totally surprised with putting in all the miles. I wouldn't focus too much on speed right now, that will come with time.

Just a quick post before I have to go do more chores before bed.

I went out and did 3 miles this evening with a pace of 10:45. That is a little faster than I have done recently but it was also much earlier in the evening. The sun/heat were almost unbearable and because of it I couldn't go the extra mile I had planned. Now I remember why I like to run in the dark although the humidity is just as bad.

Good luck to everyone taking kids to school and colleges. Thankfully we have a couple of more years before we have to really deal with that. DS is in preschool right now and even with that he is growing up too quickly. Although if we could just get him to paint instead of running away from it... :teeth:

DH went on a 8+mile hike and for the first mile & a half it was straight up....my poor lungs. lol

Hey, we had a great chat tonight with about 6 team members. I'm looking forward to next Wednesday nights chat and hopefully more members will be able to attend. Have a wonderful weekend.

Just a quick post - I did 3 miles on the threadmill tonight at a 12 min/mil pace. I still have to check posts but kind of beat, turning in for the night but I will check posts tomorrow night (my rest night).

I did 8.1 miles yesterday and it must have left me dazed. I know I came home and logged on here reported my workout and answered several people, but my post never made it. I probably hit cancel instead of send. :confused3

I'll try to catch up now.

I finished the 8.1 in 2:01:22. I was pretty happy with that because the whole route was uphill. Mostly a gradual incline, but there were 3 sections that were pretty steep. The one hill covered about 1/2 mile and it took me almost 12 minutes to walk up it (there was no way I could run up this hill).
Then after just passing 6 miles, I went flying. Literally. Somehow I tripped and went face down on the ground. Luckily I only got a little road rash on one knee and forearm. After I hit the ground, I rolled over and made sure nothing was broken and popped up very quickly. Didn't want anyone to see me. How embarassing!
I took today off to recover. Knee is bruised and a little swollen, but nothing major.

Kathy - heard the ATM is a blast! Hooah!

Pat - Great Pics!

Sunny - sending more :wizard: your way. Can never have too much :wizard:

Judy - I also hate to get up early for workouts. The alarm goes off and I start fussin' and making excuses about why I should stay in bed. But after the workout I feel much better.

Howard - Good luck with the busy schedule. Remeber to make time for yourself and the family.

MelR - Good luck with the half IM.

I know I forgot some folks. Sorry :guilty: But I gotta go get some chores done now.

Terri

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

Yesterday I did 45 min on the elliptical, and it felt really good. I'm running the x-country race with my princesses, DD5 princess: and DD8 princess:, tonight so I wanted to save my legs. My shins have been feeling better and better, I haven't even needed to ice them this past week. I'm hoping for a good run tonight - I even think I can do the whole course without getting lost.

Sorry I missed the chat last night, but we have Grandma and Grandpa visiting us for the night. Did I miss anything?

Krista- Great run, your pace is really coming along isn't it?

Judy- I like your new avatar!

Christa- I'm impressed with your ~8mpm pace. Wow, you're flying!

MelR- Oooooh, take care of yourself girl. Sounds like you really gave yourself a scare.

Tracey- My youngest princesses starts kindergarten after Labor Day. It's going to be hard for us to put her on the bus too.

Bill- Great 3 miler, and great pace!

Jodi- Good run, you take care of yourself too. Sounds like you are running out of steam a little bit. Don't get too run down so you get sick or injured. So are you getting nervous about starting the real training? I am, I'm a little worried my legs won't hold up to the increased miles.

Terri- Wow, 8.1 miles! Uphill?!?!? Great job!!!

Howard and Cam- good luck with all you guys have going on, classes, taking daughter to college, etc. Thinking of you both.

Are you referring to when I said I was too beat to post, anymore? I was just beat last night - it was almost 10:30 by the time I posted and I had been up since 5:30 in the morning. :teeth:

Oh, I'm not running out of steam at all.....actually, just starting to get geared up - I'm a little bit worried about the races but not too bad. I decided to slow things up a little bit with the pace so that I could run better at Disney. My friend and I will be trying to run at 12-13 min/miles. :goodvibes

I actually signed up for a bunch of races too - to get me more in the swing of things.

They are:
September 4 - New Alliance 20k race
September 24 - Bigelow Tea 5k race
October 14th - United Technologies Half Marathon
October 22nd - Great Pumpkin Classic 5k

Last weekend I didn't get to do my long run but will be doing it this weekend, and hopefully with my running group :) I just didn't get out there last weekend because I had decided last weekend to give Bob his surprise, did I tell you guys about that? :confused3 I can't remember.

But nope, still plugging along at the miles

Like I said earlier in the week - I will not be continuing to work at Macy's and actually signed up for Teams in Training, although.....if I don't raise money they will kick me out - - but reguardless, I will be going to Disney :teeth:

Hi Everyone -

Ok what is this training to train business? When do the half marathon people start training?

I went for a run last night with a bunch of people that are doing the Marine Corp Marathon in Ocotber. I THOUGHT I was going to go slow and easy to give my knees a little time to recover but their idea of slow and easy is much different than mine. I went there to run with a couple new guys that didn't think they could keep pace with the full marathon crowd.....

.....Lets just say that 40 year old women have no business running with 21 year old men even if they "claim" they don't run fast or have never run before. They were like puppies - run fast, walk, run fast, wait for me. One of them offered to give me a piggy back ride on the way back - yeah that would be just a little humiliating. My pride insisted I run the entire way with them even though that last mile was about to kill me.

Anyway 4 miles in 30 minutes was the end result. The puppies thought I was a good trainer. I just smiled since I was too miserable to talk yet. That and I tried not to look sick when everyone else met us back at the start. I will probably pay for my pride today though.

Cecilia

Cecilia - 4 miles in 30 minutes!!!! That is SMOKIN' :smokin:

Christa - Speaking on smokin', way to go!!! You are getting speedy!!!!

Dave - Have fun at your cross country run tonight.

The chat was fun last night. Glad i got to make it for a little while.
