Wk of Aug 10 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi all, I haven’t been around in a while and wanted to say hi. To catch up on the thread I play no instruments and pretty much only watch soccer and woman’s beach volleyball. I was not able to turn off bad mitten the other day though. It is like curling in the winter Olympics, I just can’t turn it off once it is on! Plus, seriously, who names anything a shuttle-****?

Jennifer: I did the Country Music half in 2006 and I loved it. The race is very well run and the spectators are amazing. I have never seen more people supporting a race than there.

Leana: Congratulations on the tri. I would love to try one (no pun intended) but need to get way better in the water.

As far as upcoming races go the only big race I have scheduled is the Columbus half in October. I managed to hit all my pre-season goals this year except running a sub 90 minute half and this is my only half this year so I need to dig in and do it.

Frank - WHile I am not exactly the poster cihld or tri's, seimming is a really small part of it. You figure many of teh tris are about 15 min in teh water, even for a slow swimmer adn over an hour on teh bike. DOn't let ebing slow in the water stop you. Good to see you again!

Krista & Steve - Carter is adorable!

Leana - You amaze me!

Liz - Great job! I am so happy for you!

AngieTuck - :grouphug:

I am so behind. Apologies to all I've missed.

We ran 40 min last night. Nothing spectcular, but gettng my steps in again.

Hi All!

I am staying on track. Did a strenght and strech class Monday for cross training and got up this morning and the 5K course near my home. This afternoon I painted the ceiling in my new home office. I hated that! Tomorrow I paint the trim... I haven't picked a wall color yet!

I picked a good time to take off between jobs. I would be exhausted if I was working. I stayed up until the WEE hours this morning watching the Olympics!

Hope everyone had a good week!

Angie--I am doing the ebay route looking for my new running shoes too. I run in the Asics Gel Kayano 13, now the 14's are out. I haven't tried the 14's, so I might like them, but I'm really trying to find the 13's if I can. Try www.zappos.com, I've bought shoes from them before and I really like them.

Krista - I recently swapped to the 14s and I like them a lot better than the 13s. Of course everyone is different though! Cute story about Carter and the lime green!

Carol - Congrats on the new job!

Frank - I agree with Carrie, the swimming is a really small portion of the event. I got lapped by the other 3 women in my lane but I smoked them on the bike and run... :) I just got in the pool in June and it didn't take me too long to relearn the front crawl.

Thanks Carrie, Terri, Jennifer and Mel!

so it's been raining all day. on the bright side it's in the mid-seventies in alabama in august. i did 3.25 miles in 27 minutes (8:30 pace) before the rain one.

now i can sit back relax and enjoy the team women's gymnastics competition. afterall the debate about the chinese documents i hope the us kicks there little underage hineys. it's the best shot the us has had since 1996. (i used to be a competitive gymnast, never olympic level, so i always have to add my own commentary on the team).

krista, how cute about carter. another dis'er in the making already.

frank, thanks for the good review on the country music. do you know if normally closes out? i'm waiting to know my spring schedule before i decide for sure. good luck on the training for columbus. my best friend lives there and i'm looking at osu for graduate school, so who knows i may be running it next year too.

Hello once again. Welcome to my workout! Tonight's effort....it was a twilight run (cool, getting dark, pleasant).

Miles: 4.01
Time: 33:27
Pace: 8:20

Splits:
8:14
8:24
8:17
8:23

Not too shabby (as they say). :lmao: Especially considering that the first and last miles have a considerable hill as a part of them.

Tomorrow I am running in a 5K event in Wilmington, DE. I think it begins around 6:45 or 7 PM. I'll post results afterwards.

Have a wonderful evening!

:grouphug:

Howard

Hello WISHers...

Kristi: Loved the story about Carter and the Lime Green Hat.:)

CarolA: I am so having Olympic withdrawals while at work during the day. You are so lucky. I think WISH lime green would be a nice wall color. :lmao: :rotfl2:

WellesleyPrincess: I also think that a few of the Chinese "women's" gymnastics participants are about 12 years old. There is just no way in the world they are 16. I'm watching it RIGHT NOW!!

Howard: Times are looking good. Good Luck with your race tomorrow night!!

AFM: Tonight after work I did a 3 miler. Since doing my LW of 13.10 miles on Sunday and being just a bit sore, thought I would just do the 3.
I did do fast walk and looking for speed. I did a quarter of a mile at an average 11:55 pace. Felt pretty good. Checking out Olympics is making getting up for work the next day very hard and it has and still will be a busy and hectic time at work because school starts next week!! Everybody wants to get their braces worked on before school starts.
Just watching Michael Phelps get his next medal!! Yeah, he now has the most gold medals of all time.
Oh, I just found out that according to my bib number I am starting in the 2nd group for the DL 1/2, WOW, that's pretty cool for a walker.
Have a good night everyone,

Tracy

do you know if normally closes out?
I don't think the race will close out but keep checking the site to make sure. The think to watch out for are the hotels filling up. I stayed at a place called the Millennium Maxwell House and they had a shuttle to the start and from the finish. You have to be careful if others will be with you though because the full marathon runs literally though it's parking lot. That means the roads are closed for a while.

i'm looking at osu
You mean THE Ohio State University! If you ever get alumni tickets to Michigan weekend and don't want them remember who gave you that Nashville info.:thumbsup2

I've completed my RR - caution, it is wordy. Didn't realize I had that much to say until I started typing. ;)

http://twofools1.blogspot.com/

Great RR!

Sandy321 in old name - at my parent's house in Indiana, and their computer stored the cookies for this username, and I cant change back!! something's not working, and I'm sure its my brain - I've had a rough few weeks...

I havent been around, my computer crashed, and I cant get online much at all - we're hoping that will change - here at the lake to have a shower for my son and fdil - so I'll be quite busy! BUT...

Chicago Distance Classic (1/2 Marathon), Chicago, IL
DreamBeliever (), escape (Susie) and DH (Steve), getnthinr (Wendy), jims2cool (Jim) and DW WDWFAN9 (Pat), Millenium_Mickey (Lisa), Sandy321 (Sandy), tiggerspal222 (Pat), twoWDWfools (Liz)
:yay: :woohoo:

I cant tell you how great it is to see fellow team members!! I wasnt in as great a shape, so I knew I wanted to do a 15 - 16 min/mile pace... and I think I did rather well keeping up with Susie - until about mile 5 1/2, not sure what went wrong, but wrong it did - I kept telling Susie to run her race - I would be fine... but Susie kept saying she was going to run the marathon DL and this was just her training, and she wanted to support me... words cannot fully express how grateful I am to her!! :lovestruc

Laura, my future-daughter-in-law has scoliosis and was told running would strengthen her, and she has been excited that I will do races with her - but she runs and talks to me, and pushes me, and wears me out - I assured her there would be teammates here, and please, run her race - she kept Steve in her sight (she loved the glowing nature of the shirt to focus on!!) but realized she probably pushed herself too much -

I was able to talk which I havent done when running with Laura, so I knew I was at a great pace, until the sharp pain in my ankle, I tried to adjust and ran on my toes, till the shin splints drove me crazy, I could barely walk - if not for Susie, I would've asked a medic to drive me home!! But somehow with her help I got thru it, and at mile 13 she ran (with my blessing) the last 500 feet, my dh called, and I literally wanted to sink to the ground and lay there and die - or crawl... but I walked on - and cried, and thanked the team - I finished on their clock at the same time I did the Donald in Jan 4hours and 8 min (only difference was the WDW took me 30 min to cross the start, the CDC I think it was only 10 - 15min tops to cross - )

and I somehow made it back to our pricelined hotel with Laura, we stopped at Corner Bakery for Sandwiches, and a liquor store for a beer - went to our hotel room (I emptied the gear check bag into the WISH bag and filled the plastic gear bag with ice) then we collapsed in our room - what a memory - hysterical with us moving from chairs, to bed...

I've convinced Laura to do her first Marathon in Disney - 2010 (ds and her will marry Jan '09) DH wants to do the Goofy... and ds and I will do another half... :faint:

Thanks for letting me be a part of this great team!! :wizard:

Quick run by...

8 miles today. Took it easy, and I enjoyed the views down by the beach. :lmao: Yes, there are some sights to be seen down in Waikiki.

Hope everyone is getting in the miles.

Sandy - TIm can't do GOofy, he needs to scream team or volunteer with us!!!! Can't you convince ds adn fdil to get married at WDW so you can do 2009? SOrry you felt so horrible. That makes your finish a huge victory. WTG!!!! Hope you're doing better!:wizard:

Susie - What a true WISHer encouraging Sandy to the finish. :goodvibes :goodvibes

No work out for me last night. I was with WISHers, though, does that count? TXBelle, DaddyBeast and their sweet girls. :goodvibes

Krista - loved the pics of Carter, he is too cute!

Leana - Congratulations on your first tri!! I sat with a guy on the bus on the way to the marathon in january who had been running marathons for like 10 years. He said after a few he got into tri's. He told me I would do the same - I said no way. But it does seem like alot of runners do start doing tri's. Did you always want to do one or did running just morph into it for you?

Liz - Congrats on your race!!

I am anther one who wears the asics gel kayano 13s. I was able to get my current pair for like $69 after marathon weekend in January. I will be needing new ones next month tho. I too haven't tried the 14s because of the high price  hopefully I can find some type of deal, because I need 2 pairs!

I am taking my girls (ages 7 and 2) to get their ears pierced today. I think I am more nervous than they are!! I want to throw up :rotfl:

Becky

Last night was my speed drill night. I did 30 minutes of drills followed by 30 minutes of light running. I did 5.2 miles in that time. I also squeezed in some yoga earlier in the evening.

-steve

Becky, good luck getting the girls ears pierced!

Just came in from my R/W. My neighbor went with me and I think we're a pretty good match. I'm starting back over and she is not a runner, although kickboxes and is pretty darn fit. She is gonna try to join me a couple times a week. Once I switch over to my half program she will not join me for my longer runs, she thinks I'm insane. And maybe I am.

At one point I felt really good and I threw my arms up in the air and screamed - I can't believe I'm running again! :lmao:

Our running pace was pretty good today, too! I'm feeling encouraged. :thumbsup2

Have a good day everyone!

Shan - SO great to see you back in action!!!! I'd put money on her wanting to join you on LRs in teh not too distant future. ;)

Becky - If you would have asked me in January if I thought I would do a triathlon this year I would have said no. I did figure that at one point I would give it a shot, but hadn't swum in ages and didn't have a good bike. It is amazing how buying my bike in April made me want to race it so much!

Becky - I had no new bike adn never did swim competitively and have sworn fo rover 3 years that I could never do one. Never say never. ;)

Hey WISHers! Sorry I've been off the boards, and offline, recently. A little LTO, mostly in the form of illness and migraines. No surfing for me when all I see is surrounded by a cool if somewhat painful aura of bright light.

I'll be checking in somewhat sporadically, as I'm trying to limit my computer time and work--sigh--needs to take priority. So spotty responses for a couple of days.

Mel: Woo hoo on registering for your first duathlon.

Bryan: Good luck on your first 5K!

Tricia: It's cool that you're enjoying, and feeling motivated by, your group's long runs. It does seem like they're good or increasing pace and/or running time. And I wholeheartedly agree with you about getting the miles in, regardless of the pace. Foundation building, right?

Becky: Yay for taper and good luck at the DL 1/2. It sounds as if you need even more good luck for the ear-piercing event. Just think, your girls will get their own bling. (Maybe you should treat yourself, as well?)

Racey Tracey: Ditto with Becky--but I'l give you the Hallelujah, too! I truly empathize with your headache/migraine pains. I hope you don't get them often. Great pace with your short, fast walk.

Julie: Good luck with the hamstring injury. It sounds like you're recovering well, as indicated by the 4.6 miler.

CarolA: Congrats on the new job and your successful Peachtree race. I envy your trip to Paris. Your Galloway group sounds like fun, much like Tricia's feelings, and training seems to be going well. A new home office, too? Are you going into business for yourself, as well?

Ang: Are you training for your half? Huh? Huh? I know you wanna!

Laurie: I'm sorry you're not going to be at the January fun. Your 24-hour gym sounds very promising, though. I've always wondered who might be there at, say, 3 in the morning. At one point I'd have been tempted to find out what a workout was like, post-bar closing. Let us know, huh?

Shan: Congrats on starting week two and for having a training buddy. You're not crazy, she's just not hooked yet. It might be almost like starting all over as a new runner, but I'm sure your body will remember and recover quicker than you think! :thumbsup2 Your excitement, complete with Rocky moments, is palpable. I didn't realize you had more surgery coming.

Krista: I've missed lots of the Olympics (no tv-watching--heresay in my household!), but am trying to catch up on DVR. So many channels. :cloud9: Congrats to you and Carter for putting in the miles! It really sounds like you're making strong progress on the WOs. Oh, and Carter is already a looker, he is! Oh, and I love that Carter is naturally drawn to the lime green. (Aren't we all? ;) )

Howard: :worship: to your quick--and smart--recovery from your hip-flexor strain. Cautious is good. And good luck on tonight's 5K. Run smart, if not easy.

Jackie: I'm sorry to hear you're still experiencing pain on your runs and hope things improve. If mid-week runs are too exhausting, do you think you could walk your mid-week training days? (Or do you prefer the drill sergeant approach--I go both ways.)

Angie: Yay for finishing week one of your marathon training. No pain is good (and tender is okay--just take it easy). Congrats on the Bahamas cruise and your first vacation in 2 years.

Jennifer: I know I missed your race results, but congratulations. It sounds as if you've designed a very careful transition plan to the 10K distance, and with a good pace. With your swimming and gymnastics background it sounds as if you are an all-around athlete. And sometimes it's smarter to do what you can do, and run strong, than to push yourself into exhaustion, bad form, or injury. Your instincts sound strong and spot-on to me.

Steve: You're a good WISHer and a great Dad. Priorities, you've got them! Great job on the 10-miler, and I'm sure you'll lose your baby weight soon. (And perhaps in an easier way than Krista did with her 20#. :lmao: )

Lynnda: WTG with your 2 miles and swimming. It's good to hear that your PF is manageable. Doesn't watching the Olympics count as a sport? Aloha Jeff thinks so.

Aloha Jeff: You, go overboard with an addiction? Never! :rolleyes1 Btw, is there an Olympic ice-cream sponsor? Are you SURE you don't want to post pics of the Waikiki sights? :rotfl:

Lisa: WTG on your 8 miles. I didn't realize you hadn't been running that long. How cool is it that you can return to the scene of the 5K crime and relieve that first, heady moment! :cloud9:

AmyK: What's your planned r/w interval plan for the 1/2, do you think. And from another thread, thank you for volunteering for the full! :worship:

Dave: I hope your calf and hammy don't give you lingering problems.

Liz: Congratulations on your first 1/2. You finished and you finished strong. The course looked beautiful, and your description of the finish really made me feel like I was there. It sounds as if it's a race everyone needs to do. (And what's better than Penguin bling?)

Leana: Congratulations on finishing your first tri! Your photos are great! Your biking never fails to amaze me (and the other legs and transitions too). Yay for your 5K PR on the tri. You're definitely a tri (and can-do) athlete. What kind of bike do you have?

Angie (P): In addition to what's been said--I like runningwarehouse but didn't know about the WISH discount :thumbsup2--I know Joe's New Balance Outlet sells retired NB. I've dealt with them and like their service.

Kristi: I think it's more of a testament to our dedication as athletes when we get our WOs in when we don't have time/energy/motivation than when you do. So you should be very proud of yourself! :woohoo:

Terri: Have a great vacation--and a well-deserved one!

Frank: Can you believe the Olympic U.S. men's football team and their bad-boy, bullying behavior. Karma, baby, karma! Good luck with your sub-90 half this October. Are you on-track in your training?

Carrie: 40 minutes, but nothing spectacular? Hah! You are a triathlete: a biker, swimmer, runner. The total package. I'm a little jealous you got to hang out with WISHers last night. Sounds like a party to me.

Sandy/Eeyore: What a great RR. Thanks for taking the time to detail the support WISHers give each other on the course. I try explaining it to other people, and they don't always "get it." Your RR makes it clear why we come here and stay here. And I was especially taken with your descriptions of Susie's spirit, your FDIL's strength, and of course your own triumphs on the course. I admire you all.

Roller Coaster Steve: Great speed work and XT. I love that you're running to DL and have your mileage countdown. Highly motivating!

As for me: FWIW, I did manage to get my Saturday LR in before I realized I was sick and not just tired. Sunday was not pleasant, in part because I thought I was just having a crappy rest day. Also, I'm not a band geek. So tone deaf that they discouraged me from joining band--in elementary school! :rotfl2: (Funny, but true.)

Debra - migraines...been there. Hope you feel much better very soon! We miss you.
