Wk of April 6 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Angie....Thanks for sharing that you had a yucky run. I've only been running for 10months and I think, "Maybe I'm just not cut out for this", whenever I have a run like that. I'm sad that this happened to you, but for a newbie like me, it's good to know that this happens to even veteran runners. Tomorrow is another day.:goodvibes
TXAng...Beautiful, Beautiful, Baby!!!!
Mel.... Sometimes it's one thing after another.
Tracy...Cool "Mount Trashmore". Does a path go through it or is it more a cross country run?
Carrie...I'll be watching for that commercial.

Have a wonderful weekend!!!:)

Tracey To be honest that's kind of why I shared it because I have felt just the way you have so many times. But luckily now I have so many good an bad runs under my belt that I know one, or even a few bad runs doesn't say anything about my ability to accomplish what I hope to accomplish.
Carrie Thanks for sharing Martha's philosophy that 's great. I am so glad you stuck it out!!

BAck to work, only 5 more days here :yay:

Tracey, what a cool photo! Does it ever smell when it gets too warm? I used to live in a city that was built on an old onion farm and every time someone would cut their lawn it smelled like green onions!

FireDancer, thanks! I've walked RftC so that's why I was expecting to get something in the mail! Good luck to you, too!

Scott & Leana: Isn't it so nice to put the bike to functional use!

Whew I feel like I'm surrounded by speedsters! I start out slow and speed up toward the end, but I definitely don't keep below a 9 mpm pace on anything longer than a half (and I'm doubting on that)!

TXAng: :lovestruc sooooo cute! And why yes, yes I am quite sore! I was expecting my inner thighs to hurt (and believe me--they do!), but I wasn't expecting my inner calves to hurt. I think I may be seeing bruises along that muscle in the next few days. Ouch.

Angie: I'm so glad you got your job. Some Fridays off will certainly be a perk!

Craig: Yikes we have such opposite racing theories! The gun goes off and I just want to enjoy it. A good time is just a perk. To each his own!

Tracy: LOL beautimous! How else are you supposed to get hills?

Jackie: Oh dear! :sad2: Perhaps Mystic would like some of those little booties like the sled dogs/police dogs wear once she heals up? pixiedust: for the paw.

Jeff: :thumbsup2 on getting the certificates. Isn't it a nice reminder of all the hard work!

Well the hunger has simmered down a bit. I think I need to be getting more fat in my diet, as my lips are chapped and it's definitely not chapped-lips weather around here! I usually keep to fresh veggies, fruit, whole grains, skim/light dairy, and lean meats/beans/nuts, I guess I will adjust a bit. A little more healthy oils, etc (and maybe a few more real ice creams mwahahahaha) ...so of course I just ate the last of my nut supply just as I want some more!

I'm off for my LR today. Probably 10-12 miles. Yesterday I went on a nice 5 miler and did some stuff at the gym. Tweedle dee Tweedle dum off I run....

My Mount Trashmore in South Forida has a paved road that you see in the photo that goes all the way to the top and it it gets alittle bit higher (you can't see that part). There are two small parking lots up there. They have two clubs that meet up there, one is a remote control airplane club and the other is Paragliding group. They have areas at the top for them to meet. There is a mulch type course all around marked as a horse trail, but people use it as a running, hiking and walking trail. At the top there are many areas with benches and picnic tables. They have 2 covered picnic areas near the bottom and a batheroom facility. It doesn't really smell l, but if the wind and heat are just right the methane from the other hill (that is not open for people to go on) can be smelled. There are still pipes that come out from the other hill and it is still being managed by the waste department.
This is really the only way I can get in hills unless I go up and down overpasses and that might not be too safe.

Have a great day!!
Tracy

OT - public service announcement for KY area WISHers... ;)

The Goo Goo Dolls will play a free concert on Kentucky Derby Eve at 4th Street Live.
The performance, presented by Bud Select, starts at 8 p.m.

:rockband:

I am thinking WISH road trip to WWDave's house! :rotfl:

Tracy - Pretty crazy that the hills are created by waste...at least it provides for some good recreation and nice photos!

Claire - Thanks for officially prepping me for lunch today...ice cream, nuts...I'm hungry for sure now!

Tracey
- Bad runs happen to everyone at random times...could be the weather, food intake, sleep issues or maybe the muscles just don't want to cooperate that day. I've learned to shrug them off and keep on training :thumbsup2:

Carrie
- sounds like that was a tough run on the TM! Congrats for seeing it through though! and glad to see that nothing hurt :)

Christa
- Sorry to hear you had a bad run...shrug that sucker off!

Jen - Can't believe it's snowing up there...goodness...best wishes for some warmer weather. This winter needs to be officially over.

Mel - Be careful out there in that heat/humidity! Sorry to hear about the LTO issues...I hope everything works out for you.

Angie - It happens to all of us!! I love how you are quick to rebound though and are motivated for the 10 on Saturday! I hope the rain holds off for you.

Martha
- LOVE that you aren't worried about time, and are just gonna go and have fun at Minnie!

Maura - way to go!! I think you've decided to do the smart thing with taking a week off. It seems like a lot, but I don't think you'll be impacted at all by the time off, except for giving yourself a chance to heal. You'll be happy you did it when you are healthy and at the starting line in a few weeks :goodvibes:

TXAng
- thanks for sharing the pic! Love how those photogs seem to catch the best moments.

Leana
- Biking through the snow...that must have been interesting! Cool that you got to see the movie, hopefully that will turn into some great motivating runs this week :)

Amy - Not much longer now buddy  I don't know if I'm more excited about the races OR about what will happen to us in the parks...will we get stuck on Jungle cruise again? Maybe ToT will break down again right before the drop? It's always an adventure with you buddy and I can't wait!

Scott's World
- Well I did a sort of "tempoish" run last night. I pushed the pace just slightly, a little faster than my normal weekday pace but well below my race pace. I felt like I had a good workout afterward and that's what I was aiming for, so I'm happy with what I did. Ended up covering the 5 miles in 43:48 (8:46). We have some storms predicted for tonight, so I'm not sure that I'll be able to bike to the FC but I will do some XT in the form of the elliptical and/or stationary bike.

Hope everyone out there has a great weekend. Good luck to those racing, best wishes on those weekend long runs and I hope everyone's workouts are fun and productive!

Scott: :rotfl: Wonder Twin powers activate...in the form of STATIONARY BIKE...in the form of ELLIPTICAL. Sorry...that wording just cracked me up. Sooo...as for our adventures in WDW  maybe we should bring the video camera and do a video journal of our escapades across the world.

Tracy: Mount Trashmore is MUCH lovelier than I imagined. Thanks for the picture!!

Claire: Hope that 10-12 miler went well for you this morning!!! :goodvibes I have to say that your diet sounds excellent! My skin has been itchy...wonder if I need more healthy oils in my diet? That's a great tip!!!

Tracey, Christa, Angie: OMG...I had a REALLY brutal 5 Miler on Tuesday. Must be something in the air. :( I just hope that it means we're all going to have GREAT runs this weekend!!!! :cool1: Hang in there...tough runs make tough runners! (just keep repeating that).

Jen: You need a  ... I cannot believe MORE snow!!!!

Maura: Good choice! I *KNOW* how hard it is to hold off on running, especially with events looming, but trust me and take this from someone who was way too stubborn to do that a few years ago...it's THE BEST thing you can do for yourself right now! Don't stress...your pace has been great, you've trained hard, a week off doing XT will not cause you to lose any fitness. And I also agree about the massage...might be exactly what you need..just get a good recommendation from someone you trust!

TxAng: Thanks for sharing the pic of your little bundle of joy! I was with my 5 month old niece this week and babies are just the sweetest things (when they aren't crying LOL). Nothing can bring a smile to your face like a sweet little baby!

Leana: Awesome that you saw the flick!!! I've been really wanting to catch it myself, Scott and I plan to see it sometime in the future!!! How's that bike treating you? I can't wait to get mine off the trainer and on the road...now I'm feeling whimpy seeing how you rode yours in the snow!

Firedancer: Cool avatar...nice way to combine DMB w/ Disney ;). And dude...you are smokin' fast. WTG on that killer Half Marathon time!!! I have a feeling you'll hit your 1:30 goal with no problem!!!! Oh...and Welcome .

Craig: OK mister...what's all this talk I'm reading...YOU know and I know that our training ups and downs don't necessarily translate to the race. I still have faith that you are going to crush the Minnie and really finish strong. So don't quit on those sub-9 aspirations yet. Remember...you were JUST sick not too long ago...we don't just recover immediately after that. Overall your speedwork (when you were feeling well) has been excellent and right on target. But..with all that said...I'm not sure I can hit my time goals for the Minnie either. The runs this week have been BRUTAL for me. I feel like sub 9 is a big push for me right now. Regardless...it will be nice to feel good on that stretch of the course...hopefully I'll remember that feeling during the marathon in January :headache: .

As for me: Ugh...Tuesday's 5 mile trail run was pretty rotten. I had just done a 1.5 hour pilates session with my trainer after teaching a class. My body was just not feeling the run. I set out on the trail and planned a 50 minute out and back. Turns out the pace wasn't awful (9:41 mpm) considering I was on trail...BUT goodness gracious did my body HATE me. It was a struggle to finish the full 50. Yesterday I did a 4 Mile Tempo/Hill Workout. I started out with a 2 mile tempo run at a 9:20 pace (never quite hit my tempo pace..just had a hard time getting the speed going.). Afterwards I did a mile of hill repeats and was pretty pleased that my last repeat got me up the 50 ft 1/10 mile hill at 46 seconds which is a personal best, especially at the end of a hill workout. After that I did a slow and easy run/walk for one mile to flush the legs out a bit. Today is an XT day...just taught my Pilates tone class and did the class along with them. I think I'll hop on the bike trainer here this afternoon too! :goodvibes Have a GREAT weekend!!!!

Yesterday the weather was something else. This was what it looked like all morning:
cam1-1.jpg

We got a record snowfall yesterday morning (23 cm or 9 in)! It cleared up after lunch, but then at 3:00 another snow storm blew in so needless to say my bike and I were able to get a ride back to the car as I just wasn't sure I wanted to bike back in that.

I did ride into work this morning though because most of the snow is gone from the pathways. There were a few icy patches but it should be gone by the time I head home since the forecasted high is 50 deg. Insane weather, eh?

Ummm Leana....:worship: ....you are one serious biker chick. OK....now I feel REALLY wimpy about keeping my bike on the trainer. It's 60 degrees outside today. :rotfl:

Amy - If it looked like that when I left my house I would not have ridden! It turned into that crazy snowstorm about halfway in. I did get called a wimp by a coworker for not biking home, but then again he rides in -40 deg weather just to say he did.

Ok ok...first you biked during a blizzard and then you ride in while dodging icy patches....and here I am debating if I should ride when the temps are below 50 :rotfl:

(do you have some kind of ski attachment on that bike of yours? :confused3 )

Ok...one more post (i promise)...

Carrie: Just wanted to say that I would count that tough TM run as a HUGE victory. After just completing a stellar half marathon :thumbsup2 , having a successful (albeit looong and tedious) run where nothing is injured or painful is incredible. I'm really really happy for you ...I know it's been a tough go of it for you guys this past year with the injury bug!

K...done hijacking this entire thread. :)

:goodvibes Thanks Amy. I am thrilled, although it's hard to be thrilled gettin off a TM. ;) It's so good not to be injured. Even better knowing that I shoudl not be injured again. :) BTW, you still amaze me. Even moreso when I remeber when you started training. Wow.

Leana - :scared1: :worship:

Scott - Make sure Amy follows you with a fire extyinguisher. You will be burnign up teh course with that pace! :thumbsup2

Tracey - Looks like a cool place to run We have many Mt. Tarshmores on teh east side of MI.

Claire - Hope teh run went well!

Amy

"You are wise grasshopper." I need to remember my goal on May 4 is to actually run the last 9 miles of the marathon course. That is the reason I am making the trip. Each Disney marathon I've done has been completely terrible by the AK parking lot, with my struggling and staggering to just get in. I want to run this section of the course. I particularly (1) want to run up those stupid overpasses and (2) run with style out of the Studios, on the canal, around Cresent Lake, into EPCOT, around World Showcase, and zip under the ball and to the finish. If I blow up and stagger around EPCOT (again, I've certainly done that before) I'll be despondent.

The question I have to answer is, "do I want to be fast or do I want to be smart?" It's highly unlikely I can be both.

Craig

Thank you. I am trying to talk a couple of my friends into heading to DL for Labor Day weekend, what a coincidence the half is there that weekend;) . That will most likely be my next bid at beating 1:30 if they agree.

Craig - One of my "justifications" for Minnie weekend, at least last year, was that I needed to get rid of teh neagativity I have for those 9 miles. I really do think it healped and, although I wasn't speedy like Martha, I ran teh whole way without wanting to die. Very nice feeling!

OK Mount Trashmore cracks me up!!! We have a couple of those around here, but they are definately NOT recreational areas!! At least you have hills!!!

Leana - Yup, that is totally our weather!! But I AM A WIMP and won't run in it!

So we were supposed to go camping this weekend (remember the temps are supposed to be in the 50-60's. The campground called and said they are not opening. So my fallback plan if we didn't camp was to run that 5 mile race I did last year, but I have a hunch it will be cancelled with the storm blowing in. Part of the race is on a trail (the one I run in summer) and it is all muddy right now. So my next game plan.... run on the Butt Kicker TM at home or hit the crowded indoor track. I am so sick of being cooped up like an animal!

Leanna: Whenever CBS comes out with Survivor Klondike, I vote you represent us all. You're crazy riding in the snow and ice. Please be careful! :lmao:

Honolulu also has a Mt. Trashmore. I run through there on occassion, because it's oceanfront. I'll take a photo next time I'm down oceanside. This photo is of my Girl Scout troop boxsledding (and kite flying) recently. Note the huge cruise ship in the background.

Hello teammates! Had a couple great days of xtraining. Yesterday was 7.1 miles on the bike trainer and leg weights, and then 60 min. Zumba in the afternoon. Today was an outstanding 70 min yoga class. I've cut back to only actually running 2 days per week. My legs have been screaming for lack of xtraining, so I've backed off. Surprisingly, my running "fitness" hasn't suffered, it's actually gotten a bit better. It's amazing what whole body fitness will do for you!

Angie and all others with bad runs this week--:grouphug: but those runs only make you stronger. And they make the good runs seems that much better. And I would guess, that if all we had were great runs during training, those hard races might be a DNF. Congrats on getting out there and good luck with the next run!

Craig--You will do stellar at the Minnie. I seem to remember someone whizzing past me at WWoS at the ToT:rolleyes1

Leana--wow that is some "spring" like weather!:rotfl2: And you actually rode your bike! You go girl!

Okay, gonna go enjoy naptime--have a great weekend team!
