Wk of Apr 1--WISH Walking/Running Club

Just a quickie to report that I'm doing well with my training. I've been walking an hour almost everyday and taking an hour & a half long muscle classes at work. I'm not sure if the pounds are coming off, but I feel that the inches are...I'm starting to see some curves again!:yay: I'll be back to read the reports after my hair appointment.:coffee:

Morning everyone, happy Wednesday!

Well, I did manage to get my 4 mile run in last night. Luckily the sidewalks had been cleared so it wasn't too mucky out and only a few flakes were falling. It was actually kind of nice out! I finished in 45:04 for an 11:16 min/mi pace. The only thing is, my mile splits are all over the place - mile 1 fast, miles 2 and 3 slower, then mile 4 fast again. I attribute this to the elevation changes along the way, but I'd still like it if I could be more consistent. Something to work on I guess! At least my neighborhood is good for hill training!

I managed to get the run in, and make it to the hockey game within 5 minutes of the puck dropping so it all worked out! (Except the Calgary Flames lost....:sad2:) Tonight I am off to the Running Room to pick up the last pair of size 10 Asics GT-2110s they have in stock. I don't need new shoes yet, in fact I have a brand new pair of 2110s in a box at home, but when I added up all of my mileage that I'll be running over the year I'll need the new shoes. And I'd rather get them on clearance for $100 than pay $150 for the 2120s in the fall. Yeah....our shoes are more expensive here, I got the other 2110s in the US for $70 (CDN). :faint:

OK, time to eat breakfast and get back to work. Have a great day everyone!

Greetings Racing Team -

Today is a rest day, so the only exercise I got was repeatedly hitting the snooze button.

MikeOptimator - OMG You are SO funny! :lmao: Aren't the shirts great!? I don't understand why we weren't FEATURED on the race recap CD. I mean, HOW COULD THEY MISS US???? :confused3

Sunny - COOL! :thumbsup2 You do such interesting things at work! Although, I'm sorry it gets stressful for you at times. Thanks for sharing the Fido story. Hey, I TOTALLY understand the getting up early to train thing. I have no problem with that. But, well, I haven't been on time for work in....three years.....

Yesterday I was waaay too productive at work. I don't want to give them the wrong impression. :rolleyes1

. . . .
My run report: BY THE NUMBERS

7.54 - Average pace in miles per minute
5.2 - Miles run
4 - Tacos ate IMMEDIATELY prior to running :scared1:
2 - # of DD's that told me I "glowed in the dark" as I ran down the street.
2 - # of dogs that had an unnatural reaction to the phosporescent glow.
1 - # of surprised adolescent boys that screamed like a little girl as I ran past.
1 - # of Amphipod Xinglet reflective vests that looked dark in comparison to shirt.
? - # of calls to Homeland Security reporting an erie glow on the horizon west of Washington D.C.

OMG!!! You had me :lmao: :rotfl:

Craig -- I am so flattered to know that you thought college students could appreciate the enormity of finishing. And I am so glad you have "been there" to see the progress. I have to tell you, receiving the recap CD this week WITHOUT a finisher's certificate was devastating (for a moment or three). Then, yesterday, my "You are officially registered for the 2008 WDW Full Marathon" postcard arrived and it was serendipitous. I needed to be reminded that there is another opportunity to earn the official certificate. Thank you again, Craig, for putting it all into perspective.

Sunny -- how amazing! Please do NOT allow yourself to get run down again, sweetie. I know how little control we have over the professional pressures in our lives, but I want you to take care of yourself. Kudos to you for getting up in the wee hours to TM! :yay:

Hey, did you guys check out the pix of our new WISH team member? Timothy is gorgeous! And Lynnda looks so great! Congratulations again to Bill and his family.

Thank you, everyone, for the good wishes and the "welcome back"s ;) I was working on a huge case at work and we were very successful on Monday and by 5:40 pm the case was settled, successfully for my side. Sometimes I think it might be easier to work stocking shelves at Target, but then I remind myself I couldn't afford to be part of this awesome WISH team and support my WDW habit if I did. :rolleyes1

Well, I hustled out of work last night by 6 pm and got to the Y and seized a TM!! Finally got in a significant LW. 7 miles. I feel like I have lost some of my speed -- 13:36 pace, but I was kind of distracted by the movie I was watching on my video ipod! popcorn:: Isn't that crazy? :rotfl:

See, I told you all your awesome training is inspiring me! Thank you, WISH teammates!

Hello everyone,

This is a quick post to see if the internet actually works at the hospital. It seems to right now and if it does then I can actually catch up on people this afternoon. I guess the hospitals have gotten a little more technically advanced from the last time we were here.

Thanks again for the well wishes. Lynnda is doing good and is up and moving today. She says she feels much better this time around than she did with Billy. At this rate she will be ready to start training when she gets back home. :rotfl:

Now it is time to get Billy from preschool. Keeping up with everyones schedule is interesting. Although it does cut into training time. I probably won't get any real training until Saturday. That is if they release Lynnda on Friday, which insurance will probably make sure happens.

Being able to carry 10 mpm pace for 8+ miles is a very good place to be right now for a marathon in January. You're right that speed work will sharpen you and allow you to run relaxed at speed just a bit slower than your speed work pace. I would guess if you were running a half in the fall you'd be able to do 9:30 per mile or better, about 2:05 for the half. For the full it's a lot different since the thing is so darn long. It's hard to know what's out there past mile 15 without having done it a few times. Angie's link to the pace calculator is great to look at, but it's a tool like anything else. My impression is it tends to be optimistic about pace for long races unless you have done lots of hard and long training.

I did learn last time that going long in training is necessary but not sufficient if you want to push the pace. I did lots of longer and longer runs last fall, but always at really easy pace. On race day I went out at 10:20 per mile for the first 10 miles but my body told me that although it was trained to run long distances, it wasn't ready to run long and quick. Combined with the killer heat and humidity on January 7, I broke down and had a miserable last 15 miles.

Good luck to you. Getting longer in the fall and remembering to also train your body for some speed will get you a pretty fast time. Krista makes a good point that expectations matter. It's a lot more satisfying to aim for 4:40 and finish in 4:35 vs. aim at 4:35 and finish in 4:50.

Mike

Great work on your shorter and faster stuff and your longer and still quick stuff. You are really fit. And neon bright. And funny.

Steve

So you are a Sensitive New Age Guy? Straight from Groundhog Day: "This is a man we're talking about?" Sorry, couldn't resist. We'll see you 2 in October.

Craig

Cool! It's like Live Updates from the Maternity Ward! :goodvibes

Hey Steve, Craig and all that were considering the MCM in October:

I did a quick look at red-eye flights from Orlando with the very serious thought of doing a modified Goofy - the new night race at Disney then hop a flight to D.C. in time for the Marine Corp Marathon in the morning! How cool (in a severely masochistic way) would that be? That would be right up Melissa's alley.

Alas, it would seem that there are no middle of the night departures from MCO to the D.C. area :sad2: .

Hey, maybe we could charter a WISH team flight  .

Hey Mike, maybe you could DRIVE! Would that make it a triathalon?? Run/Drive/Run??

:rotfl:

OptiMIke - You're crackin' me up!

Kristin - Holy cow! You're flying! Way to go!

Martha - Great job on your last run! That is awesome!

Krista - Could be temp swings, coul dbe lack of sleep from hating my job, probably a combo. :confused3 Did you get today's snow? We did.

Sorry, my brain is over flowing and I can't remember much. Stonker last night. HAd to walk about 35 to 40 min into my 60 min. New shoes felt ok, but did not work miracles for my tendon issues. Time to call the doc. :( I'm not putting in enough miles to be injured! Grrrr....

Almost forgot!

Sunny! That is wayyyy cool! WISHing you a MUCH better year than last!

sUNNY vERY COOL! aBOUT STRESS...i SAY "dON'T SWEAT THE PETTY THINGS AND DON'T PET THE SWEATY THINGS":goodvibes cOMPARED TO YOUR WELLBEING AND HEALTH, EVERYTHING IS PETTY.

ahhhh..mY ddS HAVE THE CAP LOCKS ON...
OK, Got that fixed.

Mike! Your race plan sounds OUT OF CONTROL! But very cool.

Bill, glad to hear everyone is doing well.

Kristin - I always have 3 goals for a marathon..
1. A Great goal that will push me.
2. A very realistic goal that would normally be easy.
3. To finish...b/c you never know what the marathon will throw at you. (heat, sickness, ect....26.2 mile is a LONG way.) But it really looks like you are on track for a great race.

My WO today - Today after my 1st client I had time to get in a quick 7.1 miler. Did 32 min out then it took me 28 min back...cool neg splits! Ave pace was 8:27. I want to sleep now. HaHaHaHa:rotfl:

Good afternoon everyone!

Man, it's hard to keep up sometimes.

Got in 3.1 last night at a pace of 11:06.

Made hotel reservations at POR for the end of October. "The Tower of Terror Trot" sounds like a good name for a race. ;)

Vic: Congrats on placing in your age group. So was it a PR for 9K?
Yep! :lmao:

Mike(Optimator) – You ain’t right, and great job on that 18 miler. :thumbsup2

Angie – Great job on the 4 miles.

Laurie – Glad to hear you guys had a good time at Martinsville. The COT is growing on me.

Krista – Good job getting your run in, despite the weather.

Judy – great job on the TM run.

Colleen – Great job on the LR.

Lynnda and Bill – Congratulations again!

Sunny – Thinking about you. Take care of yourself. Congrats with Fido!

Monte – You’re doing great!

Leana – Great job on the run.

Cam – Great job on the 7 miler.

Martha – Great job on the run.

:)

Now to catch up a little.

Laurie - Hope you have a nice week off. I would love to be able to relax right about now.:rolleyes1

Colleen - Great job in getting in 10 miles yesterday. That is a great time considering the heat outside. Glad you could find something to train for that is close by. You know you could go to Fort Wilderness and camp so that your daughter could camp and you could race :)

disnutt - Great job on getting on the treadmill. That is a great time.

Cam - Hope your week is getting better. I hope you are able to get things back to normalacy so that you can continue training.

Martha - Great job on the speed training.

Jackie - That's what the loud noise was yesterday morning ;) That would be a great incentive to do the half.

Craig - Glad you can see an improvement. Of course you are getting fitter. With all the training and cross training, you will have no problems next year. Even if it is 100 degrees with 135% humidity.:lmao:

Rosy - Glad you were able to get some training in. Sorry that it was raining though. That is a great time considering the circumstances.

Melissa - Glad to hear that you were able to get out. We will just figure you did 10 miles since no one can prove otherwise right now.;)

Mike (Optimator)
- That cracked me up. With that pace, you would have just been a bright green streak.

Steve - Work just cramps the style. Although it does help with the bills. Glad to hear that it is warming up out there so you don't have to freeze each time you go out.

Stepahnie - Glad you were able to do something during all the storms. Hope today is good when you are at the gym.

Sunny - Billy is definately proud but he doesn't like being called a big brother. He loves helping out right now and we are hoping that will continue for a while. Glad to hear that it has been a year and you are still overcoming everything. You are a great inspiration in keeping with goals during times of adversity.

Krista - Glad the pain is going away. Are you still running with the inserts? Hope the storms were short and you got some useful rain out of them.

Kristi - Glad you can walk again. Just take it easy so nothing gets reinjured.

Monte - Glad to hear that you are still doing well on your training. Glad to hear you are able to see a difference now.

Leana - Glad to hear you are finally able to get outside. It would be nice to have some cooler temps around here right now. Sorry to hear that your shoes are more expensive.

Judy - Glad to hear you were productive at work. That way you can get way ahead and then take it easy for the next few weeks. :rolleyes1 Live update: The baby is sleeping and Billy is hyper. Now if we could just get him to sleep.

Carrie - Sorry to hear yesterday wasn't too good. Hope the doctor can tell you what is wrong so that it can finally get fixed.

Christa - Great job on squeezing the WO in between clients. Hope you are able to get a nap between the next set.

Vic - Great job on getting in a run last night and for getting reservations in for October.

Sorry for anyone I missed. Hope all the training continues to go well for people.

Bill

FIrst for a training update: I had to head to the gym today for my workout since it is raining here in NJ. I hit the TM for 3 miles. Finished in 26:04 with an average pace of 8:39.

The weather looks good for the next few days, a bit cold but no rain, so I will be able to get back outside.

Now to catch up with everyone!

Hello Everyone,

I was able to get outside for a run during lunch. I ran 3.9 miles at 9:56 pace. This was the first time I've averaged under 10 mpm in a very long time. I must confess that the course was pancake flat, but it still has motivated me to keep up with the speed workouts. Best of all I made it back before the sleet and snow started.

Bill/Lynnda: Congratulations on your beautiful new baby. Best wishes to Billy in his new role as helper.

Red Dragon: Great job on your workout.

Optimator: I love the doughnut race. That's one way to shave 20 minutes off my time. There's a race here called the Big Man Run. Basically you run from bar to bar and at each stop you have to eat a hotdog and a beer (or a Pepsi). I think you have to meet a minimum weight requirement to run.

skfulkers: Nice job with the biking. It's quite ambitious to add swimming to your training too.

Sunny: Thanks for including the link to Fido. Very cool. It must be rewarding to know that all your hard work went to help make something so worthwhile. Best of luck with your new super secret project.

Carrie: I hope you feel better soon and figure out what's going on.

Cam: Glad you won your case. Best wishes as you get back to your training.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Soccerdog-I wouldn't let my mom go to WDW without me if I was you either! We don't think you are psycho!

Colleen--sorry to hear you can't make the minnie/pig races. I know the feeling, I can't make either myself, and so wish I could. Great job on your 10 miler!

Cam--Great to hear from you! I hope things slow down for you really soon...we miss hearing from you!

Martha--great job on your run!! You are doing such an awesome job!!

Jackie---aren't all teenagers dramatic! Glad to hear she will probably come along! Too bad she doesn't want to do the half with you.

Craig--again another post that is so true.....I always say that to myself how I don't want to look back when I am 70-80 years old and say I should have done something. That is one of the reasons I want to do the marathon, for years I have said I wanted to do it but just never put my mind to it. This year, I told myself I was doing it because I don't want to regret not trying later on!!

Christa--Holy Cow, that guy is crazy...100 miles!!!! :scared1: I can't even think about running that far!

rosy--great job on your 4 miles on the TM. Hope you were able to get outside for your run last night.

Melissa--Glad to hear that you got a workout in!! That is great!!

Mike--I think besides Daytona, Martinsville might be my favorite track I have seen a race at. We hope to go back for the fall race if it fits into our schedules. Your by the numbers race report had me hysterical!! :rotfl2:

Steve--thanks for the advice...I was looking back at my training log and it seems that in almost every one of my workouts my last mile has been the fastest, so at least I am consistent!!

Stephanie--nice job on your TM run! Have fun packing for your trip! I would consider that XT!

Sunny--Hang in there with everything you have going on. :grouphug:

Krista--way to go for getting some of your workout in outdoors before the storms hit. Even better for getting in safely before the lightning got too close!

monte-glad to hear your training is going well!

Leana--Great job on your workout! And glad to hear you got the workout in and made it to the hockey game!! My two favorites...running and hockey! Sorry your Flames lost! I was lucky last night..my Devils won in a shootout!!

Judy--You are so funny!! I love your XT exercise for today! Hitting the snooze button!!!! :rotfl:

Bill--glad to hear everyone is doing well!! Enjoy the time with the newest member of your family!!

Vic-nice job on your run! That's exciting that you made your reservations for the fall race! I wish I could swing that but don't think I can do it. THe COT is definetely growing on me, maybe by the end of the season I will be used to it!!

Cindy--great job on your run! And your pace is great!

Ok, I know I missed a few people, SORRY!! Enjoy the rest of the day!

Hello Everyone!!

Just a quick post right now. Did not run last night doing six in a little while, will let you know how that goes but I wanted to jump on here and say

Sunny - That is VERY cool!! and I just realized you are in Massachusetts, I am flying up there next Wednesday for an Engineers Without Borders conference at University of Massachusetts - Amherst, so what I want to know is JUST HOW COLD IS IT UP THERE???:confused3 This florida girl is a little worried!!;)

Will catch up with everyone this evening.

angie

Mike: hahahahaha!!! :rotfl:

Steve: your cross-training makes my little runs sound like I'm slacking!! You go!!!

Stephanie: packing is definitely XT!!

Sunny: take time to smell the roses!

Krista: thanks for the nice thoughts! PD that your legs stay healthy.

Monica: woo-hoo on the curves

Leana: great run.

Carrie: I'm sorry about your shoe issues!

Bill: happy to see you back on the posts! Give our best to that incredible woman you married and the new member of the WISH team. And tell big brother he needs to teach the new kid on the block all the tricks of the trade!!

To everyone who had runs today: awesome job!

Today was an off day for me. Tomorrow morning I'm with my trainer. I've got an 8.25 mile run on Saturday. It looks like the sun will be out but cold. Sigh. I was hoping for nice weather again this weekend.

Talk to you all soon!
