Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Good morning Vic, how ya is?

It's 22 frog flipping degrees here in Southern Ky, IS IT WARM ANYWHERE???

Morning, "Frozen Panda."

We be shivering, but fine here in NW Florida.

Hope you guys are doing well.

19 here, and insanely windy...I only made it half a mile and couldnt take it anymore...had to use the dreadmill instead

...but it IS nice and sunny!

I guess we shouldn't complain, some of our Canadian and Northern friends are shoveling snow or having fun with really frigid temps. Turn the heat on for us Vic, that way it will be warm when we head down there in January.

Hi guys! Long time no see! I really wanted to get in on the weekly thread early this week - I think it's been about a month since I posted. :guilty:

I'm thinking of all the folks running the Philly Marathon this morning - it's between 24-28 degrees. At least it's not as windy as it was earlier in the week. I hope you all have fun and stay warm. As for me, I'm not going outside - I'm doing 7 on the treadmill later this morning.

I'm just trying to keep semi-regular with the training. I know I'll be OK for the half, but I'd like to be a little better than OK! I'll come around a little more often, and make sure I'm connected to all of you since it makes such a HUGE difference.

I hope that all are well as we count down to Disney!

Good Morning ALL WISHers!!! It is Sunday the 23rd and Officially it is...

Panda: Hey nice to see you over on the weekly thread. SOrry to hear about the 22 frog flipping (or would that be frog freezing?) temps!!That is just REALLY cold.

Vic: No shivering down in Southern Florida. Still VERY nice weather, I am NOT complaining WHAT SO EVER!!! High today will be 74. Glad to hear you doing good up there in the North. hehe

Angie: Nice going to get your miles in. I give you props for using the dreadmill for getting it done!!

Kira: :wave2: Hey girl, glad to see you here! I wouldn't go out in 28 degree weather at all. Last time I did that I was with the Univ. of Miami at the Cotton Bowl game and the high that day was 25!! Just not my kind of temps. Sounds like your training is coming along even with the treadmill, keep it up!!

AFM: I got out and did 10.10 miles this morning. It was a nice and slightly breezy 62 degrees!! I tried my new RaceReady Capri length pants with the pockets in the back. Worked very well and may use these in Jan. Why the added .10 miles, not sure either. At my 5 mile turn around there is a small bridge that goes over a canal. I thought "what the heck" went over it and then back, that's how I got the extra .10 in there. Got home and sat in the pool. I use the pool instead of the ice bath. It is an outdoor pool and with the temps at night the last week being in the 50's the pool water is about 70. Very chilly, but it works!! Also, I don't have to waste water filling up the tub.
I am hoping more people start checking in with there training progress.
Keep up the good work everyone!!

Racey Tracy

Hey all,

It is not warm here in Michigan, but at least it's sunny. Did my 8 miles today in 20 degree weather, but it feels good to run in the cold--just a long sleeve T and tights for me (well, okay I did wear socks and shoes!) Run went reasonably well--knee and hip at about a 4-5. PowerGel was good, BioFreeze didn't seem to do anything for me. How much of that stuff do you have to use and how long does it take to feel anything? Probably didn't put enough on. Need to get some new shoes, I think. Time to ask the guys at Hanson's what to try.

Kira I'm staying at WL, too. Are you in the hotel or the villas?

Hope everyone has a great Sunday. I am going to watch some football and do some bills.

Maura

Aloha WISH team.

I got in a 11 mile run. Taking it easy the next three weeks before the Honolulu Marathon. Heavy rains finally arrived yesterday, which left lots of puddles this morning.

Off to rest, watch football, and then Girl Scouts this afternoon.

Sun is shining and therefore all is right in my world.

OK, it is really cold and we've got snow and I've been shoveling, and the wogging has been mostly indoor, and oh whatever--ugh.

Well, it's cool in Atlanta, but by comparison I guess I can't complain.

Yesterday was my LAST Galloway Group run and I WIMPED. I got home from Lake Tahoe about 11 PM and when the alarm went off at 6 I turned on the TV and saw 24 degrees. I turned off the alarm, turned off the TV and went back to sleep for 4 hours!

So this afternoon I went out and did 4.5 miles on my own. I waited until around 2 so it was in the 50's. My legs whined the ENTIRE time. I think it's a combination of they got worn out last week and BUNCHES of trips up the ladder into the attic today to get the Christmas junke out. However, I do think that I take a while to recover from long runs. Must be what happens when you start this thing as an old lady. I will have to keep that in mind when I plot the next 7 weeks.

There is another Galloway Group training for the Breast Cancer in Febuary that I may join just to make SURE I stay out there in the winter. (Did I mention I don't like COLD!)

Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving. I am heading to Boston to visit my friend so now sure how much training I will get in. (Unless you count shopping at the Natick Mall as crosstraining?)

Hi everyone! I did my first 10K race yesterday - it was pretty chilly but I finished with a time of 57:09! I did a quick report on the other thread. Tonight I'll be at the gym training with my PT and then going for a massage afterward.

Tracy - Wish I had a pool :) But being in Canada, I'd only get to use it for a couple of months out of the year.

Carol - Hmm ... I'd say it could count. There's a lot of walking when one goes shopping!

Dave - Not too much snow here yet... (better find some wood to knock on)...

Jeff - How's your little girl doing?

Maura - You can go to teh infamous Hansens? :worship:

Tracy - Pool sounds perfect post run. Yeah, mine's under snow. :guilty:

Vicky! Great job!

Dave - Bad enough here. That's got to be wayyy cold for you! :grouphug:

Jeff - COngrats on the 11-miler!

CArol - Hate to say it but a cold tub after LRs is the best thing I've found to help recovery. Wow, 24 is way cold for you!

Funny weather-related story. At teh San Antonio expo, a woman asked me if I had a rain jacket. Then she asked more questions abotu what it shoudl have. I asked if she would be using more for rain or snow or what. She sad yeah, snow and cold adn stuff "It gets pretty cold in DAllas." :rolleyes1 Now, I know that everything's relative adn that it's like how teh southerners react when I say I die in 80 degree weather with 50% humidity. Still it was all i oculd do to remain straight-faced! :rotfl:

AFM: Saturday was teh dreaded 16-miler. Dreaded because we had done 13 pretty hard on SUnday, my hammy was acting up, Scott's achillies was acting up a bit, it was 24 degrees (coldest run this year), it was a Yak Trax run and those can be hard on teh feet, and we had not done a 14-miler due to SAT, so teh jump to 16 seemed huge. Yes, we had plenty of excuses to not pull this one off. There were a few times I told myself perhaps I'd walk. (Maybe on the pair of bridges where it was snow over rutted ice) Then, I told myself that if I walkd then, it'd be easier to walk durign the marathon. I really want to PR or at least get close to our first marathon this year. I had told myself all week that I would not push if I risked hurting anything. Well, everything pretty much hurt equally, so, per my own test of when to push and when not to, it was safe to keeep going Our pace was far from stellar, bt we did it adn were fairly consistent, except for teh pair of bnidges. I am so stinking proud of us. That was a huge milestone.

Thanks Vicky, Lynn, and everyone else who sent Pixie Dust.

My little Peanut, is recovering well. She's dealt with it pretty well considering the 10 stitches.

At our Girl Scouts meeting yesterday, everyone was asking her what happened. And her response was "my sister dropped me." Sorta a half truth answer.

What actually happened Friday night was her sister was squatting down, and Peanut was sitting on her sister's knees. And before her sister could catch her, she fell off all by herself. She landed face first hitting her chin on our ceramic tile floor in the kitchen.

I immediately applied direct pressure to stop the bleeding, and then put an ice pack. When I changed gauze, I could tell she was going to need stitches.

Before we left home, I was explaining calmly to Peanut what was going to happen. I had gone through this twice as a child, so I knew what was going to happen.

I talked to Peanut while driving her to the hospital. My wife couldn't decide to go to the hospital 4 minutes from our home, or the Women & Children's 10 minutes away. I simply drove to the Women's and Children's figuring they deal with kids every day.

They had "Finding Nemo" playing on the tv, which was a nice distraction. Even the emergency room had a small tv, to watch cartoon network.

My wife is squeamish when it comes to blood. Hearing our daughter crying and screaming in the emergency room had my wife in tears.

Then the time came for the doctor to put in the stitches. Even though I explained the procedure to Peanut, she still was in a panic mode while strapped into the papoose holder on the gurney. I had to let go of her hand, and come around to the end of the gurney, so she could see me and hear me talking to her, wipe away the tears, and getting her to relax.

When we were done, the doctor and nurse said we were one of the calmest set of parents they've ever seen. They said they normally get screamed at by parents yelling "do something, or you're hurting my child."

It was a traumatic experience for a soon to be six year old. One that Peanut said she does not want to repeat. She said she did like the ice cream and french fries that she got when we left the hospital.

On Saturday, our older daugther was jealous her sister got a get well Build a Bear. I told her if she got 10 stitches, she could have one as well. She immediately said NO!!!

So everything is back to normal. A follow up today with our pediatrician. Another 8 or 9 days and the stitches will have dissolved on their own.

Jeff - HOly cow!! I can't believe I missed that! SO glad dd is basically ok, but soooo sorry she had to go through that!

Hi Carrie,

I posted late Friday night on last weeks thread about my daughter's accident at home.

It was a rough week. We lost one of our dogs to health issues, and had to put her down Monday night. Then Friday was spent in the emergency room.

I want a nice calm, eventless week. I need a lucky rabbits foot.

Way to go on your training as well.

Why is it that when our children and DH's need stitches it is always after office hours?

Haven't finished last week yet, so that's how I missed it. You lost one of your fur babies too? :grouphug: How awful. Wishing you a very boring, non-eventful week!

Just back from running in the cold windy rain. Now that is dedication! (And yes, it sucked.) :lmao:

Good morning team.

Went for a 5K walk last night in a snow storm......ughhhhhhh

Vicky congrats on your 10K!!!!!

Jeff, glad to hear DD is doing OK!!!!
