Wizarding World = Meh

OP - WWOHP was indeed crowded when we have visited, except for last trip early October when I don't think we really needed to do the early entry. However, i do think it'll be tame compared to the Fantasyland reopening

Speaking of Disney, it was rumoured that they lost out on HP since they only were interested in one dark ride vs the well-themed land @ Universal; that will likely be tweaked/expanded in a carefully planned fashion for years to come.

Never say never;)the way the last book ended certainly lays the groundwork for a sequel.

I'm thinking maybe a prequel.

I for one would love to even see a prequel. The is still a lot that can be told in the story of James and Lilly Potter. But even if there are no more movies I will still want to see WWOHP. The theming of the place rivals if not surpasses ANYTHING Disney or anyone else has ever done. You can know nothing of the Potter legacy and still be amazed at the effort and detail in creating such a magical land and castle. My daughter actually started watching the movies only after our visit last Oct.

You lost me here. Are you saying the FLE opening will make the WWoHP madness look tame by comparison? No way am I buying that. :goodvibes

Let's remember the Harry Potter opening day crowds shall we?

Here's the line that was constructed on opening day. Basically the entire park was one giant line.

I'm sorry you were disappointed. I'm not a Potter fan (do I need a flame-retardant suit? LOL). My dd lives and breathes Potter. I tried watching the movies, at her insistance, but I've just never gotten into them. We were there over Thanksgiving last year, and I must say, I was blown away by how detailed everything is. I felt like I was on the movie set. Despite my lack of enthusiasm for the HP movies, visiting WWoHP was my favorite part of our trip last year. We're heading back again this Thanksgiving.

This is what open mind looks like.

Thats what USO will be doing!!!

It will stand the test of time.I'ts A small World,Huanted Mansion, etc has without expanding.Take stock that US has got it figured out!!

TimmyBoy, thanks for the pictures! I hadn't yet been to Universal when WWoHP opened, so the pictures had no context for me. But now they sure do!

There is nothing new with HP on the horizon. Just look at all the attractions based upon popular characters/movies with long histories that have been replaced already because nothing new had come out to keep it new and fresh.

Some might argue that Disney has kept an entire park alive based upon a few classic princess characters.
I think a better example would be Star Wars. No new films have been out in decades and there were never any books and yet Disney just updated Star Tours. Books have even more staying power than movies, especially books as well written and well-thought-out as Harry Potter. These books aren't just Sweet Valley Teen books but what many consider classics. I think they have staying power for years to come and I'm not even a Harry Potter fan. (I liked the books but have only seen 2 of the movies.)

Actually, Star Wars has a fairly robust life outside of the movies. There are books, cartoon series, videogames -- there's a fairly constant flow of new Star Wars media out there.

Also, the last Star Wars film was in 2005... not decades ago.

However, I think it's fair to say that Harry Potter may have the same sort of staying power as Star Wars. Time will tell...

Actually I meant movies that were actually based on books--not books, games, and merchandise that came about because of a movie.

Also, the last Star Wars film was in 2005... not decades ago.
Oops, I didn't realize that a movie was that recent.

phamton, just say "the last GOOD Star Wars movie was decades ago" :thumbsup2

Edited to add: Star Tours opened in 1987 at Disneyland...that was about 4-5 years AFTER the last Star Wars movie came out (before the prequels) and it was insanely popular when opening.

So we can forget all of this talk about the future...unless you have a real working crystal ball, no one knows for sure what will happen.

Ha -- definitely true.

True 'nuff... and even the newly renovated Star Tours simply doesn't draw today. I have to say, though, it's fantastic -- and I say this as someone who hates simulators and didn't think they could "save" this ride, because it was so lame.

Who in their right mind stands in a line like that,lol.... WOW!!!

Who in their right mind stands in a line like that,lol.... WOW!!!

If you flew down there just for the Harry Potter opening, what else are you going to do? I believe everyone got in... eventually. But when it comes to events like that, it's more about "being there" than anything else.

Who in their right mind stands in a line like that,lol.... WOW!!!

I heard many people were upset, cuz they were in line forever and by the time they got in the stars were already gone since they only stayed like half the day. I personally am glad that this time around people with special tickets get in 3 hours before the public and etc. ;) Also having a limit on who can stand in line for autographs will keep that line down as well. That crazy line for the opening would not be for me. :rolleyes1

I personally love the Wizarding World!!! Would love to make the trip to London but they will probably never happen. So for those of you who know what Phase 2 is, could you please share a little bit about that?? I remember reading stuff before but can't remember where I read it. Thank You. :goodvibes

I realize that, could someone please direct me in the right path as to read what might happen in the expansion.

No one knows. Or rather, those who know aren't talking... nothing has been announced, nor has the idea of a phase 2 even been publicly discussed. It's all speculation, but the belief is that WWoHP will eventually take over the Lost Continent area including the areas currently used by the Sinbad stunt show and the Poseidon attraction. All of which makes sense to me, but who knows what'll really happen...
