Non-Disney Online Games (Wizard 101) Quest Tips & Help Thread!

It seems as if some of the server testing may have already started. With that in mind I would like to postpone the scheduled Grubb run until next week. Having just lost my connection in a fight, I think the cautious thing to do would be to wait. Any other opinions out there?

Still need the beguiler but am saving that for when others need it too since Shelby warned me it was a long one. Hope to get to it tomorrow. Oh and can help with the grubs if needed - probably afternoon session.

Speaking of which, what is the point of the Beguiler (giant spider)? It does not appear to be a main story quest so, outside of experience, is it a good quest to undertake? Only reason I ask is I want to make sure it is worth it before begging help for it.
Tomb of the Beguiler is like Sunken City/Grubb: tangential to the storyline and not needed to progress. I did it the night before the wipe and can't remember what the reward was like, only that it took forever to complete. (Had I but known...) Seriously, it made Sunken City look like a walk in the park!

My Myth Wizard will probably be on the Island of Storms this weekend. (He only has Emperor's Retreat to finish on Krokosphinx.) I'd be willing to take a stab at the Tomb, although I'm a bit concerned about the "possible disconnect" notice posted above. I have nightmare visions of us finally facing the Beguiler, only to be dc'd. I don't think my computer would survive my wrath at that point...

FYI, the developers have posted on the official site that there should be an update next week to address most (if not all) of the "Monster Difficulty" issues that have been raised since the wipe. Therefore, it might be worth it to wait until the following weekend before taking on Sunken City and/or the Tomb.

If we wait we will all be stronger by then. Maybe by then I can ask you
to help me though that obilisk puzzle in Krokotopia again. Did you ever write down
the sequence?

You know when I when through that whole thing, I said this "Padic" is
really a nice guy. Now, through this board, I know more about you
and my opinion still stands.

Yes with the disconnect issue, I'd say a wait on lengthy tasks is a good idea. Thanks for the offer, LittleWoodenHead, I think I'll wait until the game is a bit more stabilized since it is a side quest. No reason I can't go back and complete it later.

I am at Level 5, but I'm thinking what I need to do before going much further is practice in the arena - a lot. (Have not actually done that yet.)

My biggest handicap is going to be the inability to process several pieces of information quickly. The whole battle/card deck interface is so overwhelming, and I have trouble deciphering what's going on during a fight. I was just picking cards blindly and praying up until my last battle (Lady Blackhope) where I managed to select a Level 2 card in time to finish her off. Keeping track of stats on enemies and fellow combatants as well as myself is going to be a huge challenge.

Will have to see if this gets to a point where the battles are more enjoyment than dread. I love the atmosphere and graphics of the game, but so far my favorite part has been running around catching wisps. :p

Speaking of running, is there any way to control your direction more accurately than just the four arrow controls on the keyboard?

We still need to meet up, aliceblue. Will you be on tomorrow? If so, let me know when and I'll try to find you. I'll be glad to help you with some of your battles.

You may also want to give some thought as to which school you want to make your second since you will start receiving training points. It is best to focus on just one other school so that you'll have strong spells in the secondary discipline.

As to direction, no the controls remain a bit loose for me too. This can get difficult in some of the tighter areas but you'll get the feel of it.

The card battle system is a bit daunting. Practice will help so that the cards will soon fall into a rythym for you.

I am making the decision to postpone the Grubb run for this weekend. Hope everyone is ok with that decision and we can try again next weekend.

Yes, everyone should be stronger by waiting - more health and spells to use. Not sure which puzzle you are referring to but I have done most a few times and hopefully will remember - just ask away.

Okay, just started Marleybone. How the heck do you avoid the rats on the Hyde Park rooftops or should I be looking for a way down to the street level or what? I can't find a way down and the rats catch me no matter what I do. The wall walk that helped avoid fights in the previous world doesn't seem to work on these rooftops?

You run and pray! I just started yesterday! I keep running into everything that I see and some things that I don't. If anyone else has any other hints, please let me know. Marleybone is difinately difficult!!!!

...Speaking of running, is there any way to control your direction more accurately than just the four arrow controls on the keyboard?...
I found the up/down arrows to move and moving the mouse with the right button depressed to steer to be very effective. The mouse sensitivity may have to be adjusted to your preference.

I have an ice wizard with a minor in life. When I got to the Balance School on Krokosphinx Island and chose training it seemed to be willing to let me choose any of 3 different level shield spells. If I wait till my level gets higher (20 now) will it also let me choose higher level spells without any of the lower?

Unlike the other places you've been, you need to run straight down the middle of the roofs. You can stand on the grates, between roof sections to wait for the enemies to cross your path. Just watch them...they walk the same patterns over and over, so never walk onto a roof section while they are crossing it; only while they are walking along the sides.:)

Also don't stand to close to the edge of the grate...try to stay in the middle as much as possible because you can get sucked into a street fight from an edge. It takes a little bit of practice, but Sir Padric, who deserves some kinda Dis Award for being Mr. Nice, showed me and Cheryl the right way and from then on piece of cake.:wizard:

I need to get in there and level up today ROFL you guys are having so much fun and I am so far behind you all :rotfl:

Whew! I thought I was gonna have to crawl in and apologize for being a no show...

Next weekend sounds good to me.

I currently have 3 quests open. I am on Krokospinx Island.

1.) I have 3 beatles left to find: Temple of Storms, Emporers retreat and Well of Spirits. I figure I will find those eventually.

2.) The Trophy Quest in The Grand Arena: It says to "Use Chest of Oka". I have fought everything and been into both trophy rooms I can not find this chest.

Anybody know where it is??

3.) Retribution in The Emporor's Retreat: It says to defeat Krokhotep.

My problem is, I made it all the way to him once and then lost. Now I can't get the lever to open so I can get into the area with the ice lake, so I can get back to where this bad guy is.

I went back and fought the princes, thinking it might make the lever open up the door again, but of course, this did not work.

Anybody have any ideas on how to get back to him? Or if anybody is on this quest I could tag along and we can beat them together.

Thanks

Fly

I am on the Emperor's Retreat quest, too, and was just about to log on. My Myth Wizard's name is Kenneth LegendSmith. I'll hang around the Entrance Hall for a few minutes.

As for the Chest of Oka: IIRC, instead of turning right into the Colisseum, continue straight ahead. It's in the room just past the entrance. You don't have to fight anything (yet) but there is a puzzle to solve. Hint: "Patience is a virtue".

Good. I'll hope to join you then, I have got the "Find Grubb" task today. I also have "Explore Death School", but I don't know where that came from. Is that part of the Grubb thing, or am I missing something I should do?
