Non-Disney Online Games (Wizard 101) Quest Tips & Help Thread!

I'm ready to take on Malistaire. Michael Sunbreaker is ready too, so we're willing to team with others. I hear it takes at least three people, but I'd assume the more people working together, the better. Tomorrow (Thursday) evening would work out for both of us. Anybody know approximately how long it takes to finish?

Thursday evening should work for me too. I am Pacific Time. Let me know what works for you. It would be great if we have one person who has done it, to show us around. I wandered through the area last night and have no clue what we're supposed to do there. LOL!

I am ready to take on Malistaire too, but weekends are better for me.

From what I heard, it takes from 2.5 to 3 hours. And it seems to really help if you do it with someone who's done it before.

I also wandered inside, i did find the last book and found myself facing four monsters by myself. :scared: So I figured I would come back with some help...

Yup Those same four fire monsters whooped up on me too! I have gone in from the area at the top of the elevator (to help someone else) and it does need four people to go through. Luckily we had about seven at point. lol

Kim (Who will hopefully be going through this weekend too) :)

I'm nowhere near ready for that yet! I still have to bring my dragon staff back to the Drake Hatchery for the egg quest. :)

I'm still back a ways too. We slow pokes will just have to get help later on.

I'm now a veteran of 2 assaults on Malistaire's Lair and would like to share a few pointers with my fellow DIS wizards. If you would prefer finding your own way through, I suggest you stop reading NOW. ;)

NOTE: KingsIsle has already changed this area slightly since the initial release on the Test Server, so it may change again after the next patch or two. The following info was current as of Tuesday, February 10.

Just so you know: There are NO health wisps to be found anywhere within this instance. Fortunately, you can teleport out and jump back if you need more health or mana. At least you can at the moment. To be on the safe side, you might want to have one of your party tp out and back as soon as you get inside, just to make sure they haven't changed it.

Presently, it takes at least 3 people to complete. There are 3 crystals in 3 separate areas that need to be activated at the same time in order to open the door to the Crown of Fire (where Malistaire resides). You don't need to leave someone stationed at each as you find them, however. You can just go back to them, once you know where they are.

Also, after gaining entry to the Crown of Fire, there are 2 draconian guards (ICE) on each side of a final set of doors. This is a mandatory fight, and each guard has its own combat circle. Like the crystals, they both must be defeated at approximately the same time (say, within a minute of each other) for the doors to open. So your party will have to split up to take them on simultaneously.

Anybody know approximately how long it takes to finish?
It took us a little over 2 and a half hours the other night, but that was because LafChill and I had previously done it, so knew our way around (somewhat). Our first time through, however, it took us over 3 hours.

It would be great if we have one person who has done it, to show us around.
I'd be happy to act as tour guide -- but Thursday night's not good for me. Either Friday night or sometime over the weekend would work.

I wandered through the area last night and have no clue what we're supposed to do there. LOL!
I don't know whether this is a bug or if it is intentional, but there is absolutely NO direction given once you get inside the instance. You're not told, for example, about finding the elevator, or activating the crystals, or fighting both draconian guards at the same time, or anything else.

In addition to lack of direction, the maps are pretty messed up there. (2 of the areas are actually reversed!) Don't be surprised if you can't make heads nor tails out of them. For the most part, however, there is pretty much only one way to go, so you'll eventually stumble across the right route.

I also wandered inside, i did find the last book and found myself facing four monsters by myself. :scared: So I figured I would come back with some help...
That last book is relatively easy to get, as it is in an area where you can avoid fights. There are a couple other fights that can be avoided (for example, Tumok Gravelbeard). However, there are many other fights that cannot be avoided. Some, such as the Gurtoks, are obvious. A few others may look avoidable, but are not (so always keep your health high and your deck prepped).

Speaking of THE GURTOKS [the big Helephant things in Dragon's Roost]: Currently the Gurtok Piercer is labeled ICE when he is really DEATH. He casts primarily Death spells and Life spells used against him get a damage boost. This is a bug I expect them to fix (one way or the other) in an update, so proceed with caution. FYI, his two minions are correctly labeled ICE.

Regarding THE STONE ROSES: The Dragon Claw Canyon rose can be found at the front left side of the large courtyard after you disembark from your drake. It is currently bugged on the Live servers -- it's been fixed on Test -- and can be seen but not reached. Once they fix this bug, it will be easy enough to go back and get.

The final rose will NOT be easy to get, however. NOR is it in Dragon's Roost. Instead it is inside the Crown of Fire (within spitting distance of Malistaire), over on the left hand side just beyond where you fight the first group of Soul Servants.

Speaking of SOUL SERVANTS: They are like a bunch of pesky gnats. They are Rank 8 Death mobs, who constantly cast one-pip attack spells. They won't do a whole lot of damage, but shielding against them is almost meaningless. STRATEGY TIPS: Load up on Attack All Enemy spells (i.e. Frog, Meteor, Tempest, Blizzard, Sandstorm) if you can. Also, hang on to your Death shields until you see one who might be saving up pips for a bigger spell. And Necromancers: you might as well save your prisms for the Big Guy. (You will be fighting more of them alongside Malistaire, who is also Death -- and has 10,000 hit points, to boot.)

Good luck to you all! :wizard:

Don't worry, that only means more people with experience will be able to help you when you're ready to take on Malistaire :goodvibes

I am with Lori and Bev - not ready yet, I just started collecting the boxes of wand pieces from the various areas around the spiral. When the time comes, I would much appreciate help and also am always willing to help others just as extra person. I am Myth Ice and can solo most things - but this will not be possible, obviously.

You offering to be our Cabana Boy and help the three of us ladies when we need it? :flower3:

Just a little word of caution about a new bug today in the Crystal Grove area. If anyone is at the Piper of Dragonspyre quest, (it's the quest to locate the center battle ring inside the crystal grove area), don't attempt it! I was on that quest and had no opponent and couldn't jump to home or the dorm. Trapped in the battle ring! :scared1: I reported it, but who knows when it will be fixed. :confused3 LOL

Hi,
I was looking around for help in Dragonspyre, for quite some time. I was wondering if anybody would like to quest with me. I solo much of the game, but looking ahead, I probably need help from the cruciable(forgive the spelling) onward. So, nice to meet you all. If anybody would like to help, I am usually on after 5 on weekdays central, and all day sunday.

Roxsazero: What is your Wizard name?

Hey everyone!!

The bugged stone rose in Dragonspyre is fixed!! Woot!

You and me both.

Here I have a 3-day weekend in which to play, yet my Life wizard is stuck in a combat circle. I am NOT a happy camper. :furious:

Someone else I know from here that plays kept having problems in the grove today too. ;) Weird bug for sure! However, the bug I liked was right at the end of killing the last monster, if the next person had a heal spell to use, the game was letting them get it in anyway. We saw this happen about three or four times today. :) I like that bug! lol

I finished the spyre today. And, went through again tonight. Which makes my third time now. ;)

If anyone needs help tomorrow just let me know. :) Maybe Malistaire will finally give me some myth stuff! lol

Oh and I just got to meet the millionth student. I'm supposed to try and trade her some cards tomorrow. ;)

Kim

Good news! I'm FREE! There is a way to get out of that combat circle.

First, have a friend load only shields and blades in their deck (i.e. spells that you cast on yourselves). The reason for this is because, to get free, you are going to need to cast a spell; but since you don't have an enemy to cast one on, you (&/or your friend) will need to cast it on yourselves. It's probably a good idea to have your friend unequip their wand, too.

Once your friend's deck has few, if any, attack cards in it, have them teleport to you. As soon as a second person enters the circle, your cards will appear -- just as they do in regular combat.

The combat circle will clear and release you both as soon as one turn has passed. If, when your cards appear, you have a shield or a blade, cast it on yourself or your friend. If not, PASS and have your friend cast a shield or blade. Once that is done, the circle will disappear.

I suppose you both could just PASS or FLEE when the cards appear -- but since that isn't how it happened with me, I am hesitant to recommend doing that.

You won't be able to fight Vika Markmaker until the bug is fixed, but at least you won't be stuck in that combat circle until then.

So, what do you do when you've finished Dragonspyre? You go for boss drops and to mess with the bosses. lol
Destiny Starflame's husband Alric did this damage to Malistaire this morning! lol

Nothing like messing with the big boss' mind! :lmao:
