If a person is visiting your area, name 5 things that might be fun or interesting to see or do.

I live on Long Island in New York. Here's my list:

1: Head to the farthest point east and you'll get to Montauk Point. Tour the light house and hike around, it's very pretty. Lots of beautiful beaches here on LI, Take a ferry to Fire Island, or stop off at my favorite beach, Robert Mosses. Like a nice boardwalk? Head over to Jones beach.

2: Splish Splash water park.

3: NYC, need I say more?

4: Queens Science Museum, fun way to spend the day with the kids.

5: Visit Sagamore Hill which was Teddy Rooservelt's home. Also stop by the Vanderbuilt museum and Planetarium.

If you like history there's always the state capital...

Not really much to do within an hour of me. If you said within 2 or 3 hours, you'd have a lot, because 2-3 hours north of here is the White Mountain region, which has sooo much to do. Plenty of professional and collegiate sports around here though. There are 2 other colleges in my area, but UNH has the best sports

there is a TON to do in this area, well pretty much all of Florida. We have these great books called "One Tank Trips" - we have three different ones and they offer some off the beaten path places to check out!

kerrynic78, can you believe I have never been to Slish Splash? My kids love it though, so I guess I need to take them at some point.

Long Island has a ton of stuff to do, I only listed a couple. You could have a great vacation here. If you want more info look at this web site: www.licvb.com.

Thanks for posting about where you live, I love to get travel ideas!

I live in the middle of England so an hour so from here would be:
London: all the free museums (Science and British are my favourites)
The west end - I love going to see the shows
Plus all the other London sights and shopping experiences.

Alton Towers, the UK's best theme park with lots of world class coasters.

Cambridge, with the university and all the lovely grounds to walk around

Milton Keynes, great shopping plus I love the snow dome and indoor skydive centre

The east coast, I love going to the sea side, Hunstanton is the closest to us.

We live in the outskirts of San Juan PR.

Since I tend to avoid the main touristy places I would take my guests to the following El Yunque rain forest
Rio Camuy Caves in Camuy
Caja de Muertos
The Blue Lagoon
Phosphorescent Mosquito Bay

Within or within 1 hour of Pittsburgh, PA

PNC Park - home of the Pittsburgh Pirates
Heinz Feild - home of the Pittsburgh Steelers and University of Pittsburgh Panthers football teams
Mellon Arena - home of the Pittsburgh Penguins and site to many concerts
Post-Gazette Pavillion - home to great outdoor concerts
The Pittsburgh Aviary
The Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium (one of the best in the country)
Carnegie Museum of Natural History & Art Museum(also one of the best)
Andy Warhol Museum
Several world-class colleges and universities (Duquesne, Pitt, CMU, others)
Kennywood Amusement Park
Sandcastle Water Park
Idlewild Amusement Park & Soak City
Several county and state parks (with lots of activites - hiking, biking, swimming, white water rafting)

Rivers with a spectacular and interesting lock & dam system (that you can take guided tours of by boat)

And I could go on with more!!!
