Safteymom's information is absolutely correct. This was posted on another WDW board, by a CM.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Liberty Square Riverboat, AKA The Liberty Bell, originally expected to reopen on September 19th, will not reopen until at least Spring of 2006.

The Riverboat goes down for Rehab twice a year for about 2 to 3 weeks, in the Fall and Winter , to do state mandated inspections of the steam biolier. State Law requires just one per year, but disney does it twice. During these mini-rehabs, other work is also done, such as teaking the wood, and pressure washing the boat. Every few years parts of the boat are painted as well.

So what is so different this year? Well apparently there had been NO long-termed Rehab planned yet in the middle of this short one, the decision was made to close the boat for 6-8 months.

Looks like there will be no story telling for MNSSHP's this year. Plus, in November, when the Mansion closed for 10 days, Liberty Square will be left with just the Hall of Presidents open.

The boat is in dry dock, on Bay Lake near the Contemporary.

Never a doubt! When it comes to transportation - boats, or especially planes - you can always count on SafteyMom! :teeth:

Yes Safteymom is correct. Just got a confirmation email from Disney. When I asked them why it wasn't on their site and if the info was correct"

This was part of their response to me:

Thank you for contacting us. We do have information that the Riverboat
will be closed from 8/30/2005-Spring 2006. This is not posted on the website yet because of some back-end changes (to the site) we are making to the system, but it should be up in the next couple of weeks.

I guess for those that dont know SafetyMOM is in the parks just about every other day. If she says 2006 then I would be assured its going to be 2006. Heck I trust her before I would trust that Disney web site. Heck its always wrong. Unless you really do wanna belive that Blizzard Beach is open from 2am-6am accourding to my iteneraries

Believe it or not I have only been 74 times this year. :)

SLACKER!!!

Hey MOM you get my IM about the FL Residents board?? Think they might allow it?

Well my single digit dance today is not as festive as I would have hoped. This will be our first MNSSHP and we were looking forward to the riverboat experience.

I am a bit saddened too. DH2B was very excited about this (ok almost more excited than about candy). Oh well, I guess this means that our first MNSSHP won't be our last.

The boat actually has not made it all the way to dry dock yet. It is still at the wet dock behind Big Thunder Mountain. It was to have been moved to dry dock already, but alas it is still in view from the Steam Train...

Also allearsnet.com has been updated to reflect the extended rehab. I am just crossing my fingers that the boat actually does come back in 2006 and does not suffer the same fate as the Keelboats (which were just on an extended rehab as well).

Oh man! My dad and I were really looking forward to the Riverboat. We skipped it in March because each of us had too many kid charges that day. We planned to catch it in May, but heart surgery cancelled that trip. Now we won't able to see it at all this year. And we've never ridden it. Figures.

Oh no, DH is going to be soooo disappointed. We are leaving on Monday. Maybe I won't tell him.

How do you get to Tom Sawyer's Island?

Nank... the Tom Sawyer Island rafts are located between Spalsh Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain (along the river of course). They are still open so you will not have any problem getting over to TSI.

Jennygt... The Keelboats were another attraction that was offered on the Rivers of America. It was located in Liberty Square next to the Haunted Mansion and then it was relocated to Frontierland by the Tom Sawyer Island rafts. Here is a link to a page with photos: http://www.disneyphenom.com/site/Disneyland/Frontierland/MikeFinkKeelboats/ride/3.html The Keelboat at Disneyland flipped over so to fix the problem they were either going to continue running the attraction without loading the top seats or make adjustments to the hull to make it less likely to flip. They decided to take them out for rehab and make the adjustment to the hull. They were brought back to the wet dock (behind Big Thunder) about 4 years or so ago and that is were they still remain...untouched. Sad really, but what can you do. Hoepfuilly the LibertyBelle will get the rehab that she needs and return to service.

UGH. That is so disappointing! The story telling lady was just wonderful last year. I was so hoping my husband and friends would be able to see this. Surely, they will use her somewhere else.

We didn't do this last year & this was on my to do list for this year. POO!! :rolleyes1 Don't think I am going to tell DH--he's still mad about the Living Seas being down for rehab.

I'm guessing they will put the storyteller and muscians somewhere around liberty square. That's a major part for a lot of party goers. It will be fun to see where they and if they put these performers. Keep fingers crossed. :thewave:

I think I read at the top of the MNSSHP topic on this forum that the story telling would be in the Liberty Square area. I guess they will still have it, it just won't be on the boat. :confused3
