... dipping my bottom over and over into a bath of the silkiest oils and creams.
Fry: Thank you, sir. That's exactly what I was going for."

(It's a futurama quote in case anyone is reading this and being weirded out ;) )

Anyway, here's my dining review for 1/7-1/15, 9 days on the basic dining plan. I've been a dis'er for a while now and basically I lurk around the dining boards, reading review and looking at pictures. The anticipation of writing this review is what led me to taking about 70 food pictures. My boyfriend made me promise that we'd at least have more pictures of us than of food...I met that goal with 13 pictures to spare! :cool1: (He also wants to ban me from the site for a while once I'm done...:surfweb: yea right  )

The cast:

Me: I'm 23, an avid foodie, and I'm not that picky. I don't really eat pork (most likely due to a jewish upbringing) or veal (due to brainwashing in college--(ugh I once made a trip to disney as a vegan---not very fun but a different story). I love carbs, fruits, and veggies and like to try new things. I'm also a nutrition major so I try to eat healthy most of the time.

My boyfriend: He too is 23 and could really care less about what he's eating. He eats quickly and can eat a lot. He loves seafood and meat. Not very picky. His only request with the ADRs was a character breakfast.

I'm going to try to complete this by tuesday.

DAY 1

Our flight arrived at MCO by 10 and we were on a bus to Pop by 10:40. We were the first stop :goodvibes, and decided after we checked in to grab resort mugs and stop by the room to empty our carry-ons. We were going to MGM--oh sorry- Disney Hollywood Studios since we had ADRs there that night. We were starving by the time we got there (Around 12:30) but hit up the Great Movie ride and then flocked to the Backlot Express. By then, we would have eaten nearly anything but I knew I wanted the grilled veggie sandwich and he wanted the chicken fingers. He ordered the cheesecake for dessert and I wanted the strawberry parfait. There was no way I'd be getting a picture of his food without lossing a hand, and I barely managed to whip out my camera, much less fool around with lighting techniques before chowing down. (Ps I did take a bite before remembering--a theme throughout this trip)

To be honest, I remember this being better last year. My DBF says his chicken fingers were good and the fries were hot, well seasoned, and crispy (I stole one--yes I'm that girl). My veggie sandwich was initially very good-nice crusty bread and yummy veggies. After 1/2 the sandwich I ate the accompanying black bean salad. This was good but was basically a glorified bean salsa. The second 1/2 of the sandwich was dissapointing. The inside of that crusty bread seemed to bond with the veggies creating a gummy gross paste which was a very unpleasant texture. I stopped eating it and moved onto dessert. It seemed like it had more pudding than last time and the strawberries tasted like that had been frozen and defrosted. The dried blueberries on top were chewy and seemed offputting compared to the creamy smoothness of the rest of the dessert. My boyfriend said the marble cheesecake was alright and he ate 1/2 of it.

Overall, if I'm looking of a place to eat at DHS, I might try looking at other options, or I might go back. I'd try the turkey sandwhich though.

Dinner that night was at 50's Primetime Cafe. We arrived about 20 minutes before our ADRs at 6:55 and weren't seated until about 7:10 so it seemed like forever. However we did talk to some of the host staff and they were very nice (A really cute old man). We were finally seated and it took a few minutes for our waiter (Loukili sp?) to come over. We knew what we wanted (OH YEA FRIED CHICKEN) so ordered a diet cherry coke and regular cherry coke--or as he joked one leaded and unleaded. Well we were delivered our dinners before our drinks even arrived. It only took about 5 minutes to receive it and about 5 more to receive drinks. The cherry syrup they add is STRONG and I couldn't handle more than 1 sip. Our waiter yelled over to us, checking in, as he sassed the table next to us and I didn't want to be a bother so I just drank my water.

The chicken was delicious and I ate all 3 pieces (even though I tend not to eat dark meat). The mashed potatoes had a nice buttermilk tang and seemed homemade. The collards were unfortunately very salty (and I LOVE salt). Still nice but could had used less. Dessert was a peanutbutter and jelly milkshake for me, and s'mores for him. Sorry I didn't get a good picture of either.

What really makes this restaurant is the waiter/waitress interaction. Ours was hilarious and he hasseled another waitress and she, him. She even went ethnic on him and told him to go back and ride his camel (he was from Morocco). They were so funny and Loukili even had us interact with our neighbors, telling their kids we were teachers (which we are) and we'd give them homework. It was especially funny when he walked outside the building and stared at us through the window, knocking on it and giving us the "I'm looking at you sign." It was really funny!

My only negatives were the fact we got our food before drinks, not offered to change the drinks or refills, and salty collards.

Food: 4/5

Service:4.5/5

Would I return? Heck, yea!

That's hilarious! :rotfl:

First off I'd like to say wow! Thank you so much for the responses. :flower3:
I'm glad you're all interested and I hope I don't dissapoint!

Pipergirl: It really was so funny! He stood out there for like 5 minutes!

Day 2
Today we went to Epcot. I had decided I wanted to try sunshine seasons and the moroccon restaurant, but was unsure of how my DBF would like it. After reading on Dis how large the portions were at the Tangerine Cafe, we headed there around noon for lunch. (We often skipped breakfast and had earlier lunches).
We ordered the lamb and chicken platter to share.

DisneyJan2008032.jpg

Overall this was a very yummy meal. The meat was spiral cut from the chicken and lamb. It had a weird, sausage like texture but a wonderful flavor. My boyfriend said he would have preferred all chicken next time. However, the hummus was lovely. The bread, like many others agree, is good but I feel pita would be a better option. The tzaziki (sp?) sauce and onions accompanying the meat was a nice touch. I thought a lentil salad was supposed to come along, but perhaps I read wrong. The couscous was nice, with lots of chickpeas mixed in. The tabbouleh (sp?) however was not. It was just a lot of parsley. The baklava was very nice, crispy and full of honey; not overly sweet. I only got 1 bite in before my DBF gobbled it up. Afterwards we felt satiated but not quite full.

Food: 4/5
Service: 2/5 (Our CM was very nasty and looked quite unhappy as we ordered)
Atmosphere: 4/5

We decided to explore the shops of the World and about 90 minutes later I was hungry. There was a slight miscommunication between us and I just grabbed a fruit salad for SS. (He wanted to share a meal but I thought he said he was still full) The fruit was alright, the melon still a little hard and not very satifying. I lasted until around 4:30 and finally broke down around Mexico. We debated whether to get a pastry from Norway or share a CS from Mexico. I wanted a cloudberry horn but felt the sugar would not sit well so the the Cantina de San Angel won out. We ordered a Plato Combinacion to share.

DisneyJan2008045.jpg

I remembered to take the pic after my DBF scarfed down the "quesadilla" (It looked like a deepfried pocketpie) and cut up the taco and burrito to share. It was typical cheap mexican fare. Way too greasy but tasty. The black beans were a nice touch and probably the favorite part of the meal. It was messy and oily, and required a fork. I did like having a churro for dessert (but forgot my bf doesn't like cinnamon--whoops I had to eat the whole thing :rolleyes1 )

Food: 4/5 (due to a delicious sugary churro!)
Atmoshpere: 3.5/5
Service: 4/5

Dinner was at 7:40 at Coral Reef. We arrive around 7:25 and were told it would be a 15-20 minute wait after our ADR time. Well we sat down to wait and were buzzed after only 10 minutes. Our lovely host Raymond chatted with us as he led us down one level, and then the next, and then to our delight led us to the bottom level and sat us right now to the tank! :yay: We were so excited because we were going to be diving in that tank on Friday! He left us, and soon our waitress came to take our drink orders. It took a few minutes to get our waters and sodas, and then delicious warm bread was brought to the table. The tap water here tasted off (Oh florida water), this was the only TS restaurant where I experienced that funk. (as well as all the CS in MK). My dbf debated between the crab legs and the steak. I had wanted the steak but my stomach wasn't quite feeling it so I ordered the Mahi mahi with the sauce on the side.
(PS sorry about the poor lighting in the pics--it was so dark!)

DisneyJan2008049.jpg

My DBF said the crab legs were very yummy, but difficult to get out. Also he didn't feel very full afterwards. The mahi mahi was very good, with a simple grilled flavor. The israeli couscus was flavored wonderfully but was mush! It's supposed to be al dente (I make israeli couscous all the time) but tasted mushier than a bowl of overcooked oatmeal. Blech!

For dessert my chocholic bf ordered (what else) the chocolate wave and I decided to be good (since I ate the whole churro) and ordered the fruit.
DisneyJan2008058.jpg

DisneyJan2008059.jpg

The chocolate wave was yummy and chocolatey goodness, as any chocolate lava cake. However the brandied cherries packed a whollop and took away from the dish. They tasted like they had been soaked in cheap vodka. The fruit was, well fruit, and not very ripe fruit at that. I should have went all out and ordered the creme brulee. Before coming to WDW I had said I was going to creme brulee at numerous restaurants and ended up never ordering it at all. Of course I'd return but I'd try the steak or catfish. Or the wonderfully cooked Tilapia from lunch.

Food: 3.5/5
Atmosphere: 4.5/5 (would have been 5 but there was a misbehaving little boy behind us would kept pushing his chair back and waiving around his knife while his mother and grandmother chattly loudly to each other to drown out their offspring.)
Service: 3/5 It was slow, but our waitress tried to be attentive.

I am soooo hungry and you have to go and post pics of the 50's Prime Time fried chicken . . . :sad2: Gee thanks !

Loved the pic of your server spying on you from outside - he looked a little bit like "creepy stalking dude" from a bad horror movie !

Before we ate dinner at Coral on day 2 we stopped in at the Kringla bakery to use 2 snack credits. I wanted to try the infamous schoolbread and my DBF picked up a danish for breakfast the next day.

DisneyJan2008064.jpg

DisneyJan2008065.jpg

He said the danish was good, and to be honest the schoolbread was odd (flame away). It was good but I'm not a fan of custard. It was yummy and sweet but it was also a day old and sat out the whole night. I ate 1/2 of it. It wasn't very filling and I could have eaten more but decided to restrain myself.

We went to AK on Day 3 and had decided between Pizzafari and Flametree for lunch. We decided to get a meal at each place and arrived at Pizzafari first. I had wanted the hot italian sandwich, so ordered one, with grapes instead of chips, and the apple pie (more like an apple blossom).

DisneyJan2008078.jpg

DisneyJan2008079.jpg

The sandwich was good. A good combination of flavors and textures. I would definately order it again. The grapes were firm but flavorless. Like many others agree the apple blossom would improve immensely with a good toasting, as the crust was room temperature and slightly soft. The filling was kind of mushy but have a nice flavor.

Food: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Atmosphere:4/5 lots of small rooms made it possible to find a quiet place during the off season.

We were planning on going on the flametree later on but we went on Kali River Rapids, got wet and felt gross so we headed back to the Pop to shower. We were hungry to grabbed a mediterranean flatbread, a chocolate milk, and a cherry turnover.

DisneyJan2008082.jpg

DisneyJan2008083.jpg

It was warm and crispy and had a nice flavor. If you like feta cheese and olives, you'd like this. (I love both). My dbf said the cherry turnover was good (But a better one was to come with the Main Streen bakery).

Food: 4/5
Service:4/5
Atmosphere:2/5 (It's a food court...enough said).

Dinner was around 8 at Spoodles, and AK had extra magic hours so we headed back there, hit Everest (front row is awesome!), and then caught a bus to the Boardwalk. The restaurant was virtually dead but our server was friendly and gregarious. I knew I wanted the snapper (and was hopping for a better couscous) and my DBF decided on trying the pork chop. We got our drinks and put in our order. It took awhile for the bread to come and when it did I was dissapointed. The bread was peppery along with the dipping oil. I thought I had read hummus and pita came with it, but alas it was this, slightly spicy, cold excuse of foccacia. It would have improved immensely if served warm and toasted.

DisneyJan2008086.jpg

DisneyJan2008087.jpg

The chop is supposed to come with white beans but my run of the mill bf went with roasted potatoes instead. (I would have loved to steal his cassoulet since I LOVE beans.:lovestruc My snapper was amazing. Perfectly cooked and the sides were as well.
I got chilly and asked the server if he could turn off the fan above our head. He glady did and all the fans were shut off.

For dessert I knew I wanted the pistachio-chocolate apricot cake and to my shock and sadness :scared1: the dessert menu had been changed.
DisneyJan2008088.jpg

I settled on the gelato and he ordered, surprise, surprise, the chocolate cake. The gelato was a wonder toasted almond served with an almond brittle and cherry sauce. Our waiter asked first if I wanted the sauce or not. I did, and ate all the cherries. It was very lovely and not overly sweet. A nice amalgam of sweet, tart, and salt. Very sophisticated. He said his chocolate was good. PS the gelato on top was mocha (which I could have chosen over almond).

DisneyJan2008089.jpg

DisneyJan2008090.jpg

The snapper was probably the best entree I had the whole time-delish! I was told the pork chop was good but would not be ordered again. My dbf is used to breaded chops and preferred that method over grilled. But said he was glad he tried it. The only negative was the bread and the lack of the pca cake. (Our server even gave us an old dessert menu so my hopes were up even though we saw the new menu in the front, sadly he returned embarassed and gave the proper menus)

Food: 4.5/5
Service: 4.5/5
Atmosphere:4/5 (watching the pizza guy tossing dough really made us crave pizza)
