With BTMRR Down, Should We Postpone?

Dear All,

Before I detail my question, let me say that no trivial vacation plans, whether my own or anyone else's, supercede in any way the tragic loss of life or sustenance of injury such as occurred at Disneyland on Friday.

This being said, I had been planning to go to Disneyland over the Columbus Day Weekend, and Friday's events as they affect park operations are a concern. With Space Mountain down for reconstruction, and BTMRR likely (and rightly) down for some time, does anyone think it a good idea to postpone?

I've only been to DL twice, and never for more than one day. With the long flight from New York, we were hoping to get in two full days of park time, with a few hours in the morning on the last day. We also thought of staying at the DL Hotel if that makes any difference. Does anyone with more experience think it's worth it?

Thanks,
J.-

It really is a choice you have to make for yourself.

In my opinion, there is so much more to do there that those two rides are not a make or break for me. Honestly, I havent rode BTMRR once in the past year we have been going. Now Space Mountain, I LOVE that ride, but it's going to be down for years so that's a moot point.

Rides can go down at any time for maintnence, so you never really know what will be open on any given day. I say go and make the best of it. Enjoy yourselves and the long weekend.

I would still go. There's so much to do and see at Disneyland that more than a couple of rides would have to be closed before I would consider not going. I do like BTMRR, but it's definitely not a deal breaker. Have you been on it before?

Fall will be a wonderful time to visit DL. Take advantage of the nice weather and the small crowds, and have a great trip! :)

Are there other ones down too because we are going in a couple of weeks and I saw that Splash Mtn is also closed for refurb then. I would not let the close of BTMRR deter me from going but with all 3 down it will sure impact the crowds towards other "E" ticket rides.

Haunted Mansion will be down starting this Monday for around 4 weeks for the holiday makeover. You might check the schedule to see if it will be up when you plan to go. I would be concerned that the lines at Matterhorn would be unusually long with that being the only Mountain operating. On the other hand, it is a quiet time of year, and there is still much to do between DL and CA.

I'd still go. You may end up waiting a very long time for BTMRR to reopen. It will be 6-12 months for all of the investigations to be completed, then som additional time for Disney to make mandated changes. Eventhough the played no role in the cause of the accident (perhaps the extend of some of the injuries), I would expect that major modifications will be required for the restraints (one per guest instead of one for the entire bench) which will require a great deal of engineering work.

Disney will do a fine job mitigating the loss of this "E" ticket, which could mean hops to DCA and adjustments to the refurb rotation.

Haunted Mansion should be open by Columbus Day weekend. At that time, Space, Splash, and BTMRR should be the only things closed (maybe Small World - I'm not sure when they close that to get it ready for the holidays).

Also note that Columbus Day weekend is quite busy, so be sure to make use of Fast Pass. If you book through Walt Disney Travel, you get the Unlimited Fast Pass (meaning that you can hold Fast Passes for more than one ride at the same time).

When we were there last October, Haunted Mansion, Matterhorn, King Arthur's Carousel, Casey Jr, and Storybook Land Canal Boats were all closed and we still had a great time.
