if you want to plan a trip last minute for the following feb into march (use year april) but banked 100% of your points end of sept (if this is the banking time for 100%), what would you do. Or is it better to have march as your use year. I like april because it gives you all the way to the end of the summer for normal, usual trip, meaning travel in summer to book.

If you have banked all of your current points and find you want to make a reservation for the current Use Year, you would nee to borrow points from the next Use Year. I'd sure make certain I would not need to cancel that reservation, since the borrowed points will expire at the end of the Use Year into which they were moved.

to avoid not loosing the points, am I better with a march use year. april gives me the longest time toward the summer to book a vacation before the 100% banking window.

Use Year has nothing to do with making a reservation. You can always reserve at your Home Resort 11 months ahead.

Use Year is simply the time each year when your points are renewed. It does determine your banking deadline, but unless you will cancel reservations, it plays no role in making a reservation.

If you will usually travel in April or later, an April Use Year would work well. If you will travel in Feb or Mar and will cancel, then April may be an issue and a February or March Use Yeay might be better.

We have an April use year, and for the first time, it's giving me some concern. DH teaches HS, so we're at the mercy of the schedule. His April vacation week is the week after Easter next year, and I'm not interested in the crowds (Been there, done that-- IMHO worse than Christmas) So we have the option of
President's week in February. That gives us no time if we have to cancel after November. I don't want to lose any points, so haven't booked anything yet. Hmm -- that'll leave me SSR or OKW. Dilemmas. dilemmas....

isnt easter april 12 or so next year, didnt you say you will go after easter? so are you saying you wish you had a march use year?

The banking deadline is now 100% of points at 8 months out.

So for a February UY, the deadline is the end of Sept; for a March UY, the deadline is the end of October; and for an April UY, the deadline is the end of November. This is a change for 2008 and of course, could change again. Under the current rules, any of these UY would give you the chance to bank your points if you didn't rebook a vacation in the summer. -- Suzanne

I think she's saying that they don't want to deal with the crowds at Easter and may want to go in February. The issue with that would come if they needed to cancel the reservation - the points would still need to be banked or used before March 31 (and couldn't even be banked if the cancellation occurred after November 30).

In this specific situation, a February Use Year would work better. Many members have found that their travel habits are not fixed and there may be years when they will travel earlier or later than what works for them right now. The only problems will arise when a reservation needs to be cancelled. If you don't ever cancel, then it doesn't matter what Use Year you have.
