WISHES IS GONE (leaving in May)

I never really cared for MK's evening entertainment. Not parade and the fireworks even less.

Change is good :) (Except when it is Illuminations or Fantasmic ;) )

I'd love a new night time show at Epcot.

Its interesting because while I can't understand how anyone would dislike Wishes (like YOU!!), I'm sure there's a ton of people who can't understand why I don't like Illuminations. Seems like that show used to be better, and then they did something and now its all about that dang ball just slowly floating around the pond.

So, I'm with you on this one - I'd love a new Epcot show.

Out of curiosity, which night time shows DO you like? ;-)

Add me to the super disappointed crowd. Wishes was my absolute favorite. I'm also a huge fan of Illuminations, for the record. I don't care if they've been around forever.

I haven't been thrilled with all of the subtractions and changes over the past few years. Like taking Spectromagic, then MSEP or bulldozing Mickey and Minnie's house, or dumping Malestrom for Frozen, for instance. I understand that the concept of WDW was to grow and change - Walt said so himself - but there is certainly something to be said about tradition and history...Many people go to WDW show their kids the things they did when they were little and many of those things are gone. Even places where people would take family photos year after year (like the hat in DHS) are being pulled up. If you redo the whole concept of Disney World, what distinguishes it from your local amusement park - besides price and location and marketing power?

Change is good sometimes, but not always, and it all makes me a little bit sad.

I think I'm going to see how much it will cost for me to go see Wishes one last time before May.

Don't worry everyone, we have Pandora to look forward too!

(Sorry for the sarcasm and to the people actually looking forward to it)

I agree. DL Forever was a great show, and if they bring the Main Street projection technology to WDW, that would be awesome. I enjoy Wishes well enough, but I'm OK with seeing something new. Hopefully Happily Ever After will meet our expectations!
I honestly wonder if those who are so down on this as a cost cutting measure ever saw DL Forever. That was spectacular and if they do half of that at WDW it will blow your socks off

Out of all the shows currently, I think Illuminations needs the most updating
Yes, please. I'd sign a petition to get Illuminations changed. We have truly quit watching it but maybe once every 10 trips. We went over to catch it a couple weeks ago and it was the first time in ages. I'm done now. We'll go back to planning our dining at 9:00

I'm sad to see Wishes go and given current trends of cost cutting I'm not optimistic that the new show will be better - I'm also betting Tinkerbell won't fly anymore either.

I didn't even think about this! Has Tinkerbell flown in all of MK's night shows? I know she did in the one before Wishes, other than that I'm not sure.... either way, that would be a longstanding tradition to break.

I love Fantasmic! But if they changed it, that would be okay too. :)

I have seen Wishes many times. I try to concentrate on the storyline (is there one?) but I can't seem to follow it and my mind wanders off. I find myself looking at my watch wondering when it will be over.

I feel the same way with Illuminations. Maybe I have the attention span of a gnat. Who knows? :teeth:

I just cried a little bit when I read the title of this thread :(
Going in June.....Wishes was the one thing I was looking forward to the most. When I dream about my family at Disney....I dream about Wishes.
Oh, I hope the new show is similar and hope that it touches my heart the same way that Wishes did :(

Information updated....
Tinkerbell to fly
List of movies (sad Hercules isn't in there)
Hallowishes and holiday wishes expected to remain the same
There's a video at the bottom of the pop version of the song

Thank you for sharing this! Didn't DLR get PTN from Hong Kong?

I actually really like that song- so much that I hope they use the lyrics. Dive in with your heart wide open...you're a part of the story...reach out and find your Happily Ever After! Pretty catchy. And that video. Now I really want to visit DL Hong Kong! lol

I think I'm OK with it. I like the movies they're reporting as featured in the new show, and it will be interesting to see something different in MK. Would rather see updates to Illuminations though. That one feels so tired to me.

I believe you are correct.

And I want to visit DL Hong Kong too! Maybe DH and I need to add 1 of the outside the US parks a year.....

We have not seen OUAT yet but we loved Celebrate the Magic. I am glad we will get to see Wishes a few more times on our upcoming trip. Even after seeing it on 16 trips over the years, it still makes me cry. My kids were so little the first time we saw it and now one of them will be officially turning into an adult next trip. Glad we have a dessert party booked on the last full day of our trip to give it a proper farewell. I will be the one crying like a baby:sad:

Wow, love that song. I could learn to love it as much (and maybe even more) than Wishes! I'd love to have them add in a vocal version to the show. It sure fits with the theme

This would make me sad, but since they changed the song a few years ago, it just wasn't the same, at least to me. Can't wait to give this new show a look!

I have a dessert party booked for July so I guess I'll see the new show. Going to miss Wishes but there is always Youtube if I need a fix.
Does anyone think this is a pretty quick announcement and turn over? Isn't River of Lights way behind schedule? I hope this isn't a cost cutting measure.
I've seen both the Old and New Welcome show at MK and the Old was definitely better IMHO
