Wishes DP vs Illuminations DP

Hey! I'm torn between holding a DP at Sago Cay/Marina or Epcot. I know we wouldn't have the viewing fee at Sago Cay, but aside from that what are your thoughts on the pros and cons of both locations? I just can't decide which would be best....Both fireworks are equally spectacular! Any opinions or advice would be most appreciated. Thanks! Also, does anyone know what time you would get the coach from GF to Epcot for the DP? Thanks again!

Wishes at Sago Cay

Pros: Cheaper (unless you pay to pipe the music in), fewer restrictions on decor and vendors, transportation not required.

Cons: Piping in the music is expensive; fireworks are farther away; and the fireworks schedule changes more frequently and sometimes at nearly the last minute (like, weeks out), making it tricky to schedule your DP to coincide during certain seasons.


IllumiNations at Epcot

Pros: Fireworks are right in front of you, you get to be inside a theme park in your gown, schedule is consistent.

Cons: More expensive, may require you to pay for transportation, no outside decor/photographers allowed.

I was lucky in that I got to have both. I loved both of them, but if I could only choose one, it would definitely be Sago Cay. I just think there is something magical about having a wedding event at the GF. Epcot is my favourite park, so I assumed I would like it better, but the atmosphere was a lot different since there were so many park guests around, while Sago Cay was more private and romantic.

For us it was the time. Illuminations is at 9.00pm and for our August wedding the fireworks at MK are usually at 10.00pm. I wanted the earlier time slot so that it would not be so late for the kids at our wedding.

As Carrie says though I am providing transportation to Epcot, but I am taking full advantage of it. There are only a few of us and we are all staying at the same resort so I am having the transportation take us back to the resort first so that those who want to can change and we can drop some things off, then on to Epcot.

How do you find out what time the fireworks are likely to be?
We are also trying to decide between sago cay or epcot, and as pp said we don't want it too late as there are children in the wedding party. We'll be there in June.

As Lurkyloo states Epcot is pretty consistent and is at 9.00pm all year. MK fireworks change depending on the time of year. There are earlier times in the winter months and the fireworks change to different times on different days and some days they don't have them or if there is a special event going on in MK that can effect the schedule. Follow the link at the top of the screen for Theme Parks and select Park Hours on the left side. Dates are official released 180 days out. If you are year or so out you can gage by looking at the month this year for an idea. Once you get your planner they should be able to advise you on what time the MK fireworks are likely to be.
