Wishes Dessert Party?? yes or no

We're doing it in September because for once I want to see the fireworks without having to stand in the midst of very tall people (I'm short) or adults with kids on their shoulders. I can't tell you how many times I have been "kicked in the face" by some "antsy" child or had to stand nose to "pit" with some guy who forgot his deoderant. This year I am sitting with a cup of coffee and some sweets and "see the show"! Who-hoo! :cool1:

this is one of the best reasons I have ever heard for doing hte party. Have a great time :thumbsup2

We thought that it was worth it. We were there last Friday night and everyone enjoyed the desserts. Loved the chocolate covered strawberries and there were lots of other things to try. My daughters really enjoyed getting to sample so many different things. I guess we just have a sweet tooth. The location was fantastic. We had a table at the front near where you walked into the area. The roof of the building was indented in front of us so we could easily see while sitting down even if people where standing at the rail. The whole thing had a very relaxed feel to it. Some people stood for the whole show but several people were moving about. There was so much room that it didn't really matter.

Even though this is in an open air area, the desserts stayed chilled and we weren't particularly hot. I also did not notice any smell from smokers if they were nearby.

Was it July 23rd that you were there? So were we. We were also in the front row, away from the desert table near where you first walked in. I actually though the desserts were pretty melted and squishy. I also got really sick at 2:30 in the morning. Just so I don't get flamed, I am NOT saying that it was definitely something I ate from the party that led to my vomiting. Although, I do suspect it.

I was in the "I want to try this once" camp, too. I am glad we did it, but we won't be doing it again. I don't think it was worth the price.

I'm of the don't think it's worth it camp. We tried it last July, when it first started, and only paid $17.00/adult, and we didn't think it was worth it, I can't imagine paying $27.00!

Too many cream desserts, squishy and warm, beverages were warm, took forever to check in, cleared tables way too early and stifling hot! Hubby was major disappointed in the choco covered strawberries, as well as most desserts - said he has had way better desserts at the restaurants.

I noticed when I was there a few weeks ago, that they have improved the dessert tables (noticed in photos above too) with covers on them, so perhaps that is keeping the desserts chilled better?

We were glad we tried it 1x, and I got some awesome firework shots, but we won't be back.

I completely understand the idea that WDW saw an opportunity to make money & they grabbed it. We were one of those families that always got a drink & a snack & watched Wishes for free from the terrace. It was great to be able to sit away from the crowds & watch Tinkerbell fly over. I was completely T'd off when I heard they were taking that "free" area to charge an outrageous amount for desserts & I swore I would never do it.

That was until we went last December & since it was my birthday and the holidays, I decided what the heck & went ahead & booked the dessert party. I wasn't expecting much, but I have to tell you it ended up being one of the highlights of the trip & my families number 1 request for our trip this November.

Yes it's the same view I used to get for free, but there is no last minute families trying to push their way in front of our table. It was great being taken to a reserved table covered in pixie dust w/ our name on it. All of the CMs were so friendly & welcoming. The desserts were delicious & we never felt rushed or crowded.

So is Disney making money off this dessert party? You betcha, but I guess that's what they're in the business to do. They charge outrageous prices for just about everything, but they also know how to make their customers happy & as long as my family continues to have a magical time, we'll continue to dig deep into our pockets as long as we can. :goodvibes

I haven't booked mine yet, but I really want to soon! We are going to go on an Extra Magic Hours night. Does anyone know what time the fireworks would be if the park closes at 9pm? We have a dinner booked at 5 but don't know if we will have enough time to go to The Dessert Party. Or better yet if we will be hungry..

I am thinking we should switch to a lunch ressie instead.

I'm sure it will be a fun event to celebrate a birthday, and I hope you enjoy it. :)

Money isn't really and issue for us either right now--although I sure would like my mortgage to disappear. :) We've been blessed with fairly secure jobs at the moment, and we like to save each year for a WDW trip.

For me (and I'm only speaking for myself), I could never see spending the money they're charging for something that doesn't seem like a truly special experience (to me). Maybe it's because I've been visiting the parks since 1982, and have had the pleasure of watching the fireworks from the terrace for free? :confused3 I guess, for some, it may feel like a private viewing of the fireworks? :confused3 I don't see them offering anything special. To me, it's like the expression--you can put lipstick on a pig...to me, it's the plain old terrace with some fancy looking desserts in the mix. My personal feelings--This is the one-and-only time I've ever felt as though WDW is sucking the money out of people (and I'm one to pay for a good experience..loved paying for e-ride night, and would gladly pay again). I feel like they saw a great opportunity to make some money, so they jumped on it. I'm am a huge WDW fan, but this one thing puts a sour taste in my mouth. I'm not someone who normally watches from the terrace, and I've been wanting them to do more with the terrace in recent years. I just don't know that I like what they've come up with. It was a nice place for families to relax and enjoy a free view of the fireworks, and they've turned it into an overpriced moment...very overpriced.

I'm glad that some people love it, but I'd feel as if I was wasting money. I'd rather find one of my favorite park treats and watch for free from an equally good spot. Perhaps it's a great experience for first-timers, people with young children, people who feel crowded during fireworks, or those who want to slow down at the end of a long day. I'm sure it makes little girls feel like princesses for the night. princess:

I'm not trying to discourage anyone from experiencing it, just explaining my thought process. :flower3:

You think this is over priced ,At Epcot F&W fest they have a 3d dessert party that price is a whopping 47.50 per person that includes cordials and I think you sit in the area in front of Italy

:thumbsup2

Our fireworks start at 8pm and we are told too be there by 7pm...Check the park hours on Disney.com and you can see when Wishes is.:goodvibes When you book the CM will also tell you what time too arrive for your specific night.
I booked us a late 2:30 lunch at Kona Cafe for our Dessert party night. That way we will be hungry for desserts by 8ish....:thumbsup2
I can see where summer time temps could affect the desserts..We are going in December and so I hope the humidity has broken by then....:rolleyes1

We just returned from our trip. It was so hot and humid. Even though it is hot and humid in Maryland we were not acclimated to it. I had reserved the Dessert Party for our first night and I am so glad I did. We had the best table and were able to sit throughout the fireworks presentation. I could not have stood or sat on the curb on Main Street for any length of time. The desserts and drinks and castle confetti on the table in honor of our anniversary were a nice bonus. It was definitely worth it to me.

We did the Dessert Party one night on our trip last December. We were very happy and thought it was worth it. We are both very big dessert eaters. If they keep doing it we would like to do it again sometime. We are not doing it on our next trip in November. I don't think it's something we would want to do on every trip as much as we love the dessert.

I'll take this a step further...

We'll be celebrating DW's birthday and I thought the 3D Dessert party would be a great surprise. I didn't mind the $47.50 so much as the fact that they wanted to charge my 1 year old the $47.50.
