The weather could be cold... I have never been to WDW in the winter, but I've been doing my research as we are going to be there this year from Dec 30-Jan7. So if I put what I've learned about the weather during that time together with what I remember about the cruise (open water, breezes, etc...) I'm going to say it could be very chilly.
Now that being said I live in Montreal and I really do get a kick out of taking my girls (ages 6 and 8) for horse drawn sled rides in the winter... We bring a big blanket to snuggle under and a thermos of hot chocolate..... I KNOW I KNOW.... not my idea of a Florida vacation either...... Right now I am just trying to get the wife use to the idea that she may have to have a jacket with her in WDW for this upcoming trip of ours.... But the boats are very nice and cozy.... so you can all group together....
Next.....View of the fireworks..... Gotta say, we saw em, but we were disappointed in the view specifically..... They were fairly distant. The music was faint and talking (Like the Genie) could barely be heard. Later on in the week we went to see the show with a 'Front of Castle' prime location because we wanted to 'make it up' to the kids. So you'll have to be the judge... Like I had said in my original post, Wihes is not a great fireworks cruise, but seeing the Water Pagent sooo close and having it just suprise us like that was really the treat..... Maybe you can ask your captain about specifically doing that (if you decide to go)
Where was the boat stopped for the fireworks show?...... I'd have to say about 150 yrds off the shore directly in front of the MK..... Far enough back so that the MK itself (Which is raised by some 14' I think) did not obstruct the view. But this made it far back enough to cause the sound to be a lot less than I would have liked. And you still missed alot of the 'shots' that were fired off closer to the ground..... (like the genie POOF POOF POOF part....)
And as forr not getting the food package...... We never have but we have always brought on whatever we wanted... We always ask the captains, all whom have not had a problem. We usually bring some drinks and snacks for the kids, and a bottle of wine for us. Makes for a nice floating time......
Is it worth it...... NOT if you really REALLY wanted the illuminations cruise and this is a substitute that you are hoping is a similar experience..... Is it great, yep it really is another unforgettable WDW experience, but I wish I had known exactly what it was before I had taken it so that we would have had no disappointment with what really was a great time.
Hope you enjoy your vacation.
